[Fubar] Oh boy, did mkfs.ext4 on an already installed to partition
Long story quickly, I did mkfs.ext4 on an already ext4 partition. I was kinda casual about it because I made a backup before I did this, but now it turns up my backup is bad (not sure how that happened) and will only extract about half the files before erroring out. Not a huge deal as I did a full backup five days ago, but a few things back would be nice. I've looked around and haven't been able to find anything. Has anyone come across a way to be able to reconstruct the files that are on there?

Do you know this because you were trying to restore to the partition in question? Or is that partition still clean (freshly mkfs'd)?
If the latter, then yeah, I've in the past fully recovered from a mistaken reformat. I don't remember any more what utility I used (nor whether it was a Mac or a Linux utility), but as to possibility, this is certainly possible. Once you start writing to the partition in question though, I think in practical terms you can forget it. Individual files that haven't been written to will still be recoverable, but when I've had to do *that* in the past everything I could get back came back flat (no dir structure, I think even filenames were lost). So though there was a lot of raw data recovered, it was practically too hard to sift through it, I just gave up. If at all possible, you want to recover the old filesystem.

Unable to mkfs.ext4 - in use by system
Hi,
I created 3 logical partitions on my laptop using cfdisk and booted the arch dual installer using a usb drive. I then try to
mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda6
which is my / partition and I get the following message
/dev/sda6 is apparently in use by the system; will not make a filesystem here!
Since I booted via USB I don't see how this could be true. Any help would be great! Also I did search but couldn't find anything. This is going to be a dual boot system with windows 7.
Update: I created partitions with both cfdisk and fdisk and it made no difference. Still unable to mkfs.ext4 and even mkswap

Unable to create filesystem (mkfs.ext4) on large 2TB GPT virtual disk using Linux VM.
I am unable to create a file system on a large (> 2TB disk) virtual disk for a Linux VM. I can create the disk, attach it to the VM, partition it with "parted", but I cannot run mkfs.ext4. Details below.
Hyper-V 2012 Core (w/ all Windows/Microsoft updates as of 4/19).
CentOS 6.4 VM w/ 4 virtual processors, 4GB RAM, and 3 dynamic drives:
/dev/sda 100GB IDE dynamic vhdx
/dev/sdb 75GB IDE dynamic vhdx
/dev/sdc 10TB SCSI dynamic vhdx
Using parted, created 500GB partition on the 10TB drive (/dev/sdc1).
(parted) select /dev/sdc
Using /dev/sdc

repeating error on console from mkfs.ext4:

I am using an Mac PPC version 10.5.8 and I am trying to download the correct version of Flash Player. I did once but I had to install a "Clean Install" of my computer and when finished I had put back the new Flash Player I just installed well every time I try install the new player it is place in my Trash Folder and I can not get Player to work. when I try to install icloud on my laptop running windows 7 home premieum I get message saying the windows installer package wont complete as a program run as part of setup did not finish as expected the install then rolls back I have tried reinstall deleting files signing on with another account etc nothing works I have read this is an apple programing problem if so is there a fix I need iclouds thanks

I did not realize Iife was already on the new mac, and installed I life from a disk. Now Iphoto has a circle with a slash, when trying to open is says (you can open iPhoto because is may be damaged or incomplete. ?
This sounds different than with my IOS devices, since I am able to see the photos even with a connection to the Internet.
Do you mean without a connection to the internet? With a connection it's logical you would be able to see the PS.

This tells me that the image files are not on the HD unless the subscriber chooses to download them. -

Setup did not find any hard disks installed in your computer
OK, I spent about 30 minutes looking for a solution to this and haven't found anything. I'm too lazy to keep looking, and I need to get back to work...
Setup info:
-Mac Pro (Early 2008)
-Dual 3.2Ghz processors
-32GB RAM
-RAID Card with four 1TB drives attached (RAID 5 with two volumes: one Mac OS X 10.5.3 and one Mac OS X Server 10.5.3)
-320GB SATA drive that originally came with the unit in hard drive bay 1, now installed in the 2nd optical drive bay and connected to the 5th internal SATA port. It's partitioned with BootCamp: 32.88GB for Mac OS X 10.5.3 (installed and running, used to create the BootCamp partition) and 264.71GB available for Windows.
Windows install disc:
Took my Windows XP SP1 install disc and used nLite to slipstream SP2 and SP3 and burn a new install disc.
When I boot into the Windows install disc, everything goes fine, until it actually gets to the part where I should be selecting my hard drive (Hit Enter to Install Windows) for installation. Instead , when I hit enter, I get the message that "+Setup did not find any hard disks installed in your computer. blah, blah, blah, hit F3 to restart.+"
I'm assuming this is a SATA issue and that I need to get a SATA driver slipstreamed into my install disc so that the Windows installer will see the SATA drive.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?Everything I've read says that that won't work because I have the RAID card.
Sounds like I'm out of luck, if BootCamp can't be installed on a SATA drive not connected to one of the original 4 bays.
Also, I'm concerned about taking the RAID drives out (I'd have to take all 4 out or it corrupts the RAID setup when I stick the one back in) then putting them back in and having everything return to an All Good status.

If you had "Find My iPhone" enabled in Settings > iCloud then you may be able to locate it. If not, you cannot locate it.

All, We have been having trouble creating disk volumes larger than 2TB on CentOS machines in our lab environment that consists of Hyper-V 2012 R2.
Today we came a step closer with the help of

This has created a mountable logical volume, however it only registers as 2TB, rather than the actual size of 4TB. I notice the article is over a year old. Has there been any fixes?
The alternative would be multiple 2TB drives..As part of the product team that does Linux on Hyper-V, we've recently spent some time investigating this problem. It occurs because Linux issues a SCSI "WRITE_SAME(16)" command, which is not implemented by Hyper-V. WRITE_SAME(16) is optional
in the SCSI spec, so it's OK that Hyper-V doesn't implement it, but the problem is that Hyper-V doesn't return the correct error code and sense info to indicate that it's unimplemented. With the correct error code from Hyper-V, Linux would use alternate
SCSI commands and everything would work.
We're looking into possible fixes. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can have an update on what to expect.
We believe Ubuntu 14.04 actually works correctly on Hyper-V due to a complicated set of other reasons. RHEL 7.0 does not work, and the other file system types don't typically avoid the problem either.

I was messing with my clear history button and it wasnt working right and some how pushed a button something about a full page and now all my firefox stuff is all gone and I have to put my pointer close to the top to just get to my home button and favorites but leave it to me of course to come up with a problem that hasnt been asked even though i not a newbie i sure feel that way sometimes like NOW!!!!!

Basically my computer is running on Snow Leopard. My father bought the Lion upgrade to install on his computer, however, it ended up being that his newly purchased lap top already came running with Lion -- thus, he never ended up using the Lion upgrade he purchased. Now, I would like to use the Lion upgrade he purchased but did not use to upgrade my computer to Snow Leopard. The information he gave me for this was the Web Order Number, Part Number, and Content Code for the Lion upgrade. How do I redeem/use his upgrade to update my computer to Lion without having to purchase another copy of the Lion software from the App store? Is that possible?

Why did this fix my adobe Air install problem?
I had Air installed which I needed to run this porgram You Select it which needs adobe flash and Air to run.. The other day the program would not open up.
I tried a number of things could not get it to work. Deleted the program, and tried installing Air again, and Flash. Flash would install fine but not Air.
I searched the WEB and found a forum which said if You install Firefox web browser and run it while you install Air it will work.. I did and got Air and my Program installed fine.
I have no clue why that worked but it did.was it shutting down when it was plugged in?

I just reinstalled firefox on my computer and the password feature to remember then worked for all my sites for a couple days and now firefox does not remember my username or password and I have remember password checked in the tool section. What can I do to correct this. Does it have anything to do with me having the setting to not remember any history?
