Fuji F550 EXR RAW files

I used to be able to view and process Fuji F550 EXR RAF raw files but now cannot. I have tried upgrading to LR4 but the same issue. I assume this is a bug as I used to be able to work with these files.

My suggestion would be to install the 550 firmware from Fuji’s support site.  It looks like there is a .DAT file to download along with an installer executable so should be ok to do at home.  Someone at Fuji must have made a mistake when they installed the firmware, or else they actually replaced the insides of the camera with some 500 parts so the 550 FW wouldn’t work anymore.  If updating the firmware messes something up then I’d ship it back to Fuji and tell them to put the right firmware on it:
http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/software/#firmware
For existing files, you can use a hex-editor like HexEdit  http://www.physics.ohio-state.edu/~prewett/hexedit/ to change the three 500s to 550s at the beginning of each RAF and Adobe software will recognize them.  You need to tab over to the human-readable text area – make the brighter block over on the right side and the grayer block over at the left before you start typing the 5 character, otherwise you’ll be entering in a 5 as half of a two-digit hex number which isn’t what you want to do.  You have to save the file from the hex-editor to get the changes to stick and I’d suggest NOT saving over the top of the originals just in case you make a mistake.
There is probably a way to change various EXIF things for many files at once using ExifTool but I’m not sure how without researching a bit:

  • Proper support for Fuji EXR Raw Files

There is still no proper support for Fuji  EXR Raw files.  On any Fuji X-series camera, the in-camera raw processing, including specifying options always outputs a far superior image that Adobe Camera Raw 6.  I've been using an X100 for some time now, and have really gathered some great images with it. But Adobe Camera Raw fails miserably to understand how to process these files.
This is more of a complaint and feature request than a question, because I already know the answer. Adobe has not worked close enough, or at all, with Fuji to develop a Raw processor for the EXR pixel layout.
The EXR pixel arrangement offers new possibilities, especially the ability to take an HDR image of a moving subject, and without a tripod. The elimination of the low-pass filter allows for more sharpness, and finally the noise pattern is much more "film-like".
I've been using Adobe Photoshop for processing images for years, but have no compelling reason to upgrade without a proper conversion for Fuji RAW files.
Adobe: Please work with Fuji to bring world-class support for EXR Raw images.
    Thank you,
    William

    Good day!
Adobe has not worked close enough, or at all, with Fuji to develop a Raw processor for the EXR pixel layout.
There seems to be a reason why Adobe has to reverse engineer RAW formats – the camera manufacturers don’t want their customers to use Adobe (and other) software to process their RAW files. (If their proprietary software gets better results then that’s understandable, but for how long are they going to support their own software?)
Now maybe Fuji is more cooperative than others, but do you know that for certain?
I've been using Adobe Photoshop for processing images for years, but have no compelling reason to upgrade without a proper conversion for Fuji RAW files.
If the new/improved features of Photoshop CS6 have no significance for the way you process, manage, edit and touch-up photographs feel free to stick with whatever version of Photoshop you use currently, but be aware that hardware/OS changes on your side may some day make that version inoperable on your set-up.
Also the upgrade path has been cut down to one version, if I understand correctly.
Anyway, this is a beginners Forum, feature requests might be better posted over at

  • Fuji x-trans raw files import extremely slow

WIn 7 pro 3.6 AMD quad core 16 gb ram 1.2 tb raid 0 WD Velociraptor drives. Lightroom 5.6
I have a fairly quick system and my 24mp Sony raw files import and render full sized previews reasonably quickly -but it takes about 5x longer for my Fuji X-T1 raw files to import and render full size previews.  If I import into Capture One Pro 7 or 8 or into Photo Ninja both the Sony and the Fuji files import and render previews quickly. It is only Lightroom that is so incredibly slow with the Fuji raw files.
I have used LR since version one and my files have always imported reasonably fast , however, the Fuji raw files have been slow to import from the very first import.  Ex - yesterday I imported 312 raf files (Fuji raw files) and it took 31 minutes to complete. I also imported 257 Sony raw files and the import  plus full sized preview rendering was completed in just under 5 minutes.
Am I missing something in the preferences or import workflow?
    Thanks for any help
    BOb

Thanks for the quick reply! :-)
The setup is identical as when I work with my Nikon-files; I always start by "manually" copy the files from the memorycard to correct location/disk.
In LR I use the "Add" option when I import to my catalog, so the file transfer is not part of the equation....
Even the large files from Nikon D810 is faster to "add" than the files from the X-T1.
But, as you write, it might come down to X-Trans-files (RAF) is not as optimal for Adobe processing as the Nikon raw files (NEF)...

  • Fuji X-E2 raw file help

So, I updated from my X Pro 1 to the new Fuji X-E2, now LIghtroom doesn't recognize the file.  I have a Lightroom 5 that I can install, but it wants a newer version of Windows.  Is it possible to get the new Fuji X-E2 files to be read in Lightroom 4?  Please help, this is very frustrating.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The link above will provide details of the cameras that are presently supported by Lightroom and which version.
Lr 4 requires Windows Vista or later.
Support for the Fuji X-E2 needs LR 5.3 or ACR 8.3.
To get LR 4 to work with Fuji X-E2 raw files you will have to use the Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 to convert the Fuji Raw files to DNG and then import into LR 4.x

My fuji x100s has RAW file compatibility issue with OS 10.8.2, my iphoto11 cannot recognise the file format.  Anyone know of this issue too? Appreciate if anyone can offer some helps.  Thanks

Correct.  The Fuji X-100s is not currently supported by iPhoto or Aperture (or the RAW converter in OS X itself).  You can submit feedback via iPhoto and request this.

  • Camera Raw Update Problem: how to open Fuji X-E2 Raw files in CS5?

I just purchased a Fuji Xe2 but my .RAF files are not compatible with my CS5's version of Camera Raw (6.7).  I have tried to go through the Help menu to update but it states my product is up to date. I tried to manually download and install but I just get an error message.  How do I fix this?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
The X-E2 was first supported by Camera Raw 8.3 which is only compatible with CS6, CC and later.
It will never be backward compatible with earlier versions so you won't be able to open XE-2 Raw files in CS5.
    Some options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all X-E2 Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in CS5.

  • Fuji X-10 RAW files in Lightroom mobile

    Hi!
I have encountered a strange issue with files from my wive's Fuji X-10.
I synched them to Lightroom mobile and they seem to display fine, but when I try to edit them, they get distorted and the the picture is not updated with the edit. When I switch to a different picture an back it looks normal again and after a couple of minutes the preview is updated with the changes.
this is how it looks like:
Obviously my wife is not overly satisfied with this workflow
Any pointers on how I could use these files in Lightroom mobile?

  • Management of Fuji X-Trans RAW Files

It would be really helpful if Adobe staff who monitor this forum could make a comment on work proceeding to improve the handling of RAW files coming from X-trans sensor cameras. I've recently started shooting a Fuji X-E1 along with my Nikon D3s and, while the jpgs are quite good, the RAW handling by ACR results in significant artifacts which limit the usefulness of Lightroom and Photoshop. While I understand that product development timing is uncertain, it would help the entire Fujifilm user community to know that Adobe was at least "working on it".
    Thanks!

  • Fuji X-Pro1 RAW-files

My PSE 10 won´t open the RAW files produced y Fuji. I downloaded the Adobe DNG converter (8.2) but to no avail. My OS is Mac 10.6.8. What to do?

Did you download and install the 8.2 dng converter from here:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5645
What happens when you try to use the 8.2 dng converter?
In case you don't know, one needs to use the 8.2 dng converter to convert the camera raw files from the Fuji X-Pro 1
to dng copies and then the dng copies should open in the pse 10 editor.
The dng converter is not a plugin for pse 10.

  • Fuji XE-2 Raw files Lightroom 5.3

Should I preprocess RAW files using Fuji supplied software (Silkypix, very clunky interface!) or should I convert to DNG with Lightroom and go from there? Do I lose anything goinf this way?

LR 5.3 RC1 is not fit to work on X-E2 raw files, yet, despite being listed as having support.  See the following thread for examples of skintone issues:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5892643#5892643
Depending on what the problem actually is LR 5.3 RC and the DNGC 8.3 RC probably have the same problem so wait until the final release is out, probably in the next two or three weeks—the ACR 8.3 RC (PS plug-in) expires at the end of the year so either the final or another release candidate will be out by then.
You can play with the RCs but don’t expect to do any work that wouldn’t need to be redone once the final version is out, and if you have a habit of converting everything to DNG, keep the native raw files, so you can reconvert them after the final DNGC 8.3 is available.

  • How do I update my CS5 so that I can process my Fuji X-E1 raw files

How do I update my CS5 so that I can process my Fuji X-E1 raw files

you need camera raw 7.2 or better:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
so, you'll probably need to use dng converter 7.4 because your cs5 program won't accept a 7.2+ update.  but check first because it's not clear what cs5 program you're trying to use.

  • Aperture support for fuji X-T1 raw files

How quickly does aperture update for raw files for a recently released camera?

Thanks for the link, William.  However, from the Aperture site, they don't seem to be in any hurry.  The X-E2 isn't even listed there.  It's hard to know which direction to go with Adobe costing so much more than it used to.  Since I use layers and masks quite a bit, I need to update my raw converter, since I use CS5.
