Fuji Raw Conversion Software as External Editor in Lightroom

Anyone know whether Fuji's Hyper Utility RAW conversion software (if I remember the name correctly) will work as an External Editor in Lightroom. (Just read an article by a Nikon photographer who uses Capture NX this way in Lightroom and wonder whether the same is possible for Fuji.)

Thanks; I guess my question (which I did not state clearly) is whether if, at the end of processing in HV-S3 and "Save" the saved file (likely a TIFF) will automatically appear in the Lightroom Library associated with the original RAW file; this would be the chief advantage over just opening the folder with the file in HV-S3 to begin with, but it occurs to me that this may be a dumb question (as I've just downloaded and begun to use Lightroom and can't experiment with HV-S3 yet as it has not yet been released, but will be shortly). Thanks again.

  • Can you export a raw image to an external editor?

Just wondering if Aperture 2 will allow you to edit a raw image in an external editor (Nikon Capture NX) as a raw image not as a tiff?
    Thanks.

    Shannon,
It would appear that this cannot be done, due to no option for that file type when exporting a Version, and the file type is only available when exporting a Master, which by definition does not have the adjustments.

  • How do I set up Premiere Elements 13 as the custom external editor for Lightroom 5?

    Situation
I own Lightroom 5.6 and I'm experienced. I've just bought Premiere Elements 13 and I'm a video-editing virgin (be gentle with me). I've spent a day experimenting, reading, watching videos and I'm still stuck (I've tried reasonably hard to solve my own problem).
    Problem
I've tried to set up the custom external editor in Lightroom 5 to send photos to Premiere Elements, so that I can incorporate images into movies. Having set it up, when I use it by selecting Photo/Edit In/Premiere Elements 13/, there is an exciting lull as a copy of the image is created and appears in LR, then Premiere Elements launches, then what??? There is no clue as to what has happened to the image regarding its import into Premiere Elements 13. It doesn't appear on the screen, it doesn't appear in the Organizer, it's no-where to be seen, other than in LR!
    Resolution sought:
    Can anyone tell me
    1. Is it possible to use Premiere Elements as an external editor in LR5 ?
    2. What are the precise settings should be for each field?
    3. If I configure it correctly, what does good look like: what should I expect to see happen in Premiere Elements?
I don't know if this is relevant: MacBook Pro 16GB 2.8Ghz i7, 750GB SSD (i.e. plenty of space, plenty of horsepower), OS X 10.9.5
I also don't know if I this is the right place for my question (Adobe directed me here) so please don't shout at me if I've come to the wrong place (I expect if I get no joy here, when I post it to an LR forum, they'll shout at me too :-)
    Thanks

I do not have Lightroom 5 or other version of it. I did do some work on an earlier version tryout of it.
And, I believe now as then, that the answer to your question is No. Bottom line, if there is integration
to be found between Lightroom, it is between Photoshop Elements and the Elements Organizer, not the Premiere Elements Editor.

  • Why can't we have Camera Raw 8.5 open as an external editor in Lightroom 5 to allow using the new filter brush

ARC 8.5 has a new filter brush for the graduated filter which will allow deleting areas from the applied area - why/how can ACR 8.5 be set as a external editor to allow access to this ability???  . Or when will Lightroom be upgraded to have this feature?
    Thanks

ACR 8.5 is a plug-in for Photoshop not a standalone program.  I’d suggest doing an Edit In Photoshop CC/2014 and then using Filter / Camera Raw in PS to do your edits.
I would also LR will be upgraded at some point, but maybe not until 6.0.  It’s hard to say, since the LR folks are having to deal with LR mobile things, now, too, PS is part of the cloud, and a promise of the cloud is to get new functionality sooner.

  • Edit in external editor with lightroom adjustments issue LR5 and PS CC

Since several days when I try (in Lightroom) 5 to edit an adjusted file (NEF, JPEG or TIFF) in Photoshop CC as external editor (with the option "edit a copy with lightroom adjustments") in many cases the adjustments ar not visible in photoshop CC, or only partial visible, and sometimes the file opens not at all. Removal of the preference files of LR 5 and PS CC and  a whole new installation of LR 5 didn't resolve the issue. I have a macbookPRO with Mac OS 10.8.5 and the most recent versions of LR 5 and PS CC. Has anyone experienced this problem and what can be a solution.

I have no idea, but have you tried File / Catalog Settings/ General tab: Relaunch and Optimize. Relates to the database.

  • Error when trying to edit in external editor in Lightroom 4

Hi all, need help please with Lightroom 4.
I have an external photo editor set up so when I choose "edit in" it goes to that editor, not photoshop.  I am getting the following error "Unexpected error performing command: bad argument #1 to 'lower' (string expected, got nil)".
I have tried repairing and reinstalling the program to no avail.  I have tried setting up a different program for the external editor, same problem.
This is working as it should in Lightroom 3.6.
    Thank you for any help.

  • Fuji raw files from iPad Camera Roll to Lightroom Mobile

I can not transfer Fuji XE2 Raw files from my iPad Camera Roll into  Lightroom Mobile. They will transfer from Lightroom 5.4 into mobile and can be edited which proves mobile can handle them. However not a lot of good for location use!
Does anyone else have this issue? Is there another way of transferring files within the iPad other than from camera roll?

Thanks for the quick response, although disappointing to hear. Surely that rather defeats the object!
Once you have them on your regular computer why would you then want to transfer and edit them on an iPad? I'm off on a weeks holiday and want to work on them while away.
There are other iPad apps that can import raw files but as I already use Lightroom I was hoping to use their mobile app.
    What a let down!!

  • How do I change my external editor in Lightroom back to CS5?

I have Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.  I installed CS6 to experiment, but I don't really want to "work" with it.  However, it changed the settings in Lightroom to default to CS6 as my external editor.  How can I change this back to CS5?

    Hey,
I checked with Kelly Castro on the LR team and he said you should be able to save each of your external apps as presets and then they should both be available.  He gave me the steps, too:
    1.  Lightroom > Preferences > External Editing
    2.  Under Additional External Editor, clci the “Choose” button next to Application
    3.  Navigate to Applications folder and select Photoshop CS5
    4.  Set Editing attributes (File Format, Color Space, Bit Depth, Res)
    5.  Click on preset menu and select “Save Current Settings as New Preset”
    6.  Name the new Preset “Photoshop CS5” and click “Create”

  • Using photoshop elements 12 as external editor for lightroom 5

When I have been in lightroom....then used elements as external editor....the photo does not save back to light room...how do you do that?
    thanks

This issue has been reported numerous times in the last few months on this forum and the elements forum. Surprisingly the solution for some has been to save the file in PSE with the "save as" command instead of the "save" command. I know, this is the opposite of what "they" say but after seeing that solution in the forum several months ago I started following this rec and have not had a problem since, when before I too was having problems with the edits in PSE being saved back to LR 5.3. I don't know whether this is a bug in LR or PSE but there have been enough reports that it clearly is an issue. Adobe, however, is strangely silent on this. Imagine that! Anyway, give that a try and see if that works. Can't hurt.

  • Set up Element 10 as external editor in Lightroom 3, it does not work.  What's wrong?

I am using Lightroom 3.  Just bought the Element 10 and set it up in Lightroom as external editor.  It does not work at all.  What's wrong?

Make sure you are linking to the application and not a shortcut. If using Mac OSX you may need to reveal hidden folders.

  • How can I use DxO 9 as an external editor in lightroom 5.3 ?

I tried to follow the directions in help.  They were to: Open a photo and go to "photo" or "develop" tab in Lightroom.  Under  drop down,  find "edit in"  tab
Then it lists programs but not DxO 9.  The help menu says "if not listed, just add it using a dialogue that lets you navigate to it".  There is no dialogue that lets you do that in Lightroom 5.3 tthat I can find!  How can I put my raw Nikon NEF files in Lightroom and then "edit in" to batch process the NEF raw files in DxO and store the raw and the tiff files in Lightroom?  Should I do that processing in DxO 9 outside of lightroom and then import both a folder of NEF raw files and a second folder of processed, converted to Tiff, files?

I have been struggling with the  issue ( D610, lightroom 5.3 and DxO 9 elite).  My solution is going to be just to download to a subfolder of photos outside of lightroom, maybe call it "new folder" and have it contain new NEF files and a second subfolder called new tiff files.  Then use DxO to do whatever I want with the new nef files and save them as tiff files in a different folder.  You could also have DxO Export each treated Nef as a Tiff to lightroom.  I kind of think just using a new folder containing nef and tiff subfolders and then importing may be the be best way to go.  I still have to figure out how lightroom handles the changes in the photo now a tiff.  I also want to use OnOne perfect photo suite 8 as my primary editor for the tiffs rather than photoshop. Photoshop sets me nuts due to the complexity. I don't use any of these on a weekly much less daily basis so to remember all the complexities is more than I can handle. In the interim I bought the Laura Shoe videos as well as a set by George Jardine.  Hopefully they will shed some light. Took me a few hours just to figure out something so simple as how to get photo info to show up on the thumbnails!  I spent even more time deleting photo duplicates from the lightroom catalog and phot folders!  Now I also need to relable the subfolders since it split them all up by date and not names or initial folders they came from.

  • Removing External Editor from Lightroom

I have purchased Photoshop CS3 and now I use it with Lightroom.
I have remove my old editor from my PC, but still shows up in Photo/edit other.
Is there a way I can remove this.
    Thanks
    Johnn

From the Lightroom Extra FAQ (should also apply to CS3 if running Windows):
Lightroom does not recognize Photoshop CS2 - Windows
Perform this at your own risk.
    Here's how to fix it:
    1) Run regedit.exe from start menu->run
    2) Look for this folder:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\photoshop.exe
In that folder, there should be a key "Path" and its value should be the folder where Photoshop CS2 (or any other Photoshop version) is installed."
If your registry does not have that folder, created it and add a "Path" key with the value being the path to Photoshop CS2:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\

  • External Editor Options Grayed Out

When choosing to edit a RAW file in Photoshop as a Lightroom external editor, "edit the original" is grayed out because there is no reason to edit a RAW file in Photoshop when you are starting in Lightroom. Makes perfect sense. But what if you were trying to use an external RAW editor (a native format editor or LightZone, e.g.)? Would "edit the original" be available then? I understand that the edited image would have to be converted in the external editor before being saved, and wouldn't be saved as a RAW file, but it would be helpful to be able operate on the RAW image in the external editor launched directly from Lightroom. (It would be helpful for me to know in advance because the answer may affect a purchase decision.) Thanks in advance.

Right (and thanks). I do understand that once the external editor operated on the file it would have to converted in the external editor and saved as something other than RAW, as I mentioned in my original post, say in TIFF. My question is only whether I can get a RAW file to the external editor from Lightroom so that the external editor can convert the file, which would be saved and brought back into Lightroom for further processing or printing. That is, if one tries an external RAW editor on a RAW file, will Lightroom's "edit original" option be grayed out or available? thanks again.

  • Open with External Editor Adobe Camera Raw = HOW?

When I export a RAW file to the External Editor (I've chosen Photoshop CS3) I would like for it to open in Adobe Camera Raw, just like any RAW file that I open in Photoshop outside of Aperture.
However it bypasses Adobe Camera Raw and opens directly in Photoshop.
I have the "Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG files" and "for Supported RAW files" boxes checked in the Photoshop Prefs.
I see some chatter about Hot folders and Automator around here, but no definitive answer/workaround.
If Aperture doesn't support exporting to Adobe Camera Raw, it is a HUGE leg-up for Lightroom in the RAW workflow department.
Please tell me I'm missing a checkbox somewhere... Thanks.

You're not missing a checkbox, you're missing a fundamental issue of how Aperture (and LightRoom for that matter) work.
When you use the Open in External Editor command, Aperture will convert the RAW file, apply any adjustments you have made, and send the resulting PSD or TIFF file to the external editor.
The original file is NOT sent and there is no option to do so. Why not? Because Aperture Versions do not exist as discrete image files - the adjustments are shown on-the-fly each time you view it, saving on the space taken up by multiple TIFF/PSD/JPEG files for each Version. As ACR uses a totally different RAW conversion & adjustment engine from Aperture, Aperture wouldn't be able to display any changes made in ACR without including the entire conversion engine of ACR, which Adobe might not be too happy about...
In other words, if you want to use a different RAW convertor you will have to export the Master, convert it in the other app, and then import the resulting 'normal' image file back into Aperture. The same is true for LightRoom.
