Full album skips on iPod

Having a strange problem with my iPod - two albums just skip, without playing, though they appear on the iPod / with correct cover-art, as applied by me.
I had the old 60GB Photo iPod, which didn't give me too many issues. Just got the 80GB Classic last week, & it's been a ton of trouble since.
Few years ago (when I got my 60GB), I ripped a lot of my CD's (using EAC/LAME-192)& put them on the Pod, & then made a DVD of the mp3's so I can easily use them again next time. The albums all worked perfectly.
Got the new 80GB, & transferred (from DVD/HDD) most of my albums to the new iPod. For some strange reason, Dark Side of the Moon, & Wish You Were Here (2 albums I personally ripped), appear on the 80GB, along with the artwork, but if I choose any song (or even the full album), the iPod just skips through. Doesn't even play 1 second of the track/album. Just skips the full thing.
I connected the iPod to the computer, & through iTunes I was able to play the songs. This is really strange, because the mp3's also play on the old 60GB. I put the same files on both iPods, but it refuses to work on the new one. I even erased it & tried putting it again. No change. I plugged in the old 60, used PodLift to get those two albums out, & put them in the 80GB... still no luck.
Any suggestions? I don't know what to do about this, & the worst thing is, I was lucky to check those two albums, so I knew they didn't work. I already added around 4000-5000 songs on the new iPod & am now worried that others also might not play at all!
Please help!
Thanks in advance!

Ok, now that you've explained your process, it seems alright. Nothing wrong there.

This happens when itunes encounters a file not compatible with it. Even if the file says it MP3, there's something about it that itunes finds unplayable, usually in the encoding process, sometimes in the ID3 Tags.
It's unfortunate that iTunes ripping quality isn't up to the mark like EAC, otherwise I wouldn't have trouble at all...
This is how I understand it, itunes' AAC encoder is equal to LAME's MP3 encoder. Itunes' MP3 encoder is inferior to that of LAME's. If you're encoding in AAC anyways, might as well use itunes.
Besides that, what's worse is both my albums which are giving trouble are Gold CD's, & I'm not too keen on the idea of putting them in a CD/DVD Drive. Just too scared of scratches
Hmmm...I don't know anything about Gold CDs, and wiki isn't that enlightening. Are they like regular CDs in that, the files are encrypted/encoded as WAV files? It might be due to the source (Gold CDs) that the ipod is having trouble with even if itunes accepts it. The Classics are really particular as to format compatibility and health of the file structure itself than older ipods. A tiny error which older ipods find acceptable becomes unplayable in the Classics. Case in point, I have one song in the Classic that skips mid-song but when the same song is played in my old 4th Gen, there was a squeak, right where the Classic skips, but continues playing.
Try the steps I've outlined above (except the re-ripping part), if none of them work however, I think you're only choice is to re-rip. In itunes (not EAC/LAME) no less.

  • Is there a way to see the full album names on my iPod Touch?

When albums have long names, they are cut off. This isn't normally a problem, except if the album is part of a multi-disc set, where the names all begin the same way, as shown in this screen shot of my iPod Touch
At the end of each album name is a number (I, II, III).
Is there a way to see full album names on iPod Touch?

Flip the iPod horizontal and look at the cover flow mode. You will be able to see the complete album name, even if you don't have the artwork.

  • How to reduce number of artists in artist category who do not have a full album?

The category I use most on my ipod touch is the "Artist" category,
because I generally like to listen to full albums and to a single artist for a fair amount of time.
    Something I find really annoying is when I put compilation albums  on my ipod , which feature multiple artists with 1 or 2 songs each per album ;
Suddenly my "artist" category is FILLED with all these artists who only have one or 2 songs each.
    I find that really annoying.
Is there some way to narrow down artists that on my ipod that have, for example, less than 5 songs, and put them all in one big compilation folder?
Or to make them just not display in the artist category?
It just confuses me when I look at my ipod to see all these artists who have only one or two songs.
That's not what I want to listen to.
The only things I want to see listed in the artist category are artists who have at least ONE FULL ALBUM on my ipod.
I hope my question makes sense,
as well as the reason for my asking it.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

    Hi Jon.
Sorry if you kind of answered this already.
I'm going through and manually renaming the "album artist" column for tracks which do not have this information.
Most of these tracks have the "artist" column filled.
[This is actually becoming a bit laborious, plus there is actually a fair bit of waiting time for itunes to fill in the track metadata on all the tracks after I have selected multiple tracks and typed it in, and it won't allow me to continue tagging while it does this.]
    SO......
I was wondering if there was a way to get the album artist column to be automatically filled by mirroring what is in the artist column?
I found this excellent looking tool,
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=tagsmirrorartalbfnom
but I don't know how to use it.
It would be excellent if there is some way to do this without a 3rd party solution, but if I knew how to use this tool, it looks very good too.

  • Album purchased from iTunes plays fine in library but skips on iPod...

I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN ALBUM FROM ITUNES. I AM ABLE TO PLAY ALL THE SONGS FROM THE ALBUM WHILE I'M CONNECTED TO MY PC. IT PLAYS IN MY LIBRARY FOLDER, PURCHASED FOLDER AND EVEN IN MY DEVICES FOLDER.
BUT I AM UNABLE TO ALL THE SONGS FROM THE ALBUM ON MY IPOD. ALL THE SONGS SEEM TO HAVE TRANSFERRED FINE BUT WHEN I TRY TO PLAY THEM ON MY IPOD, THEY SKIP. FOR EXAMPLE, THERE ARE 23 SONGS ON THE ALBUM - I WILL START OUT WITH THE FIRST SONG AND CLICK PLAY AND IT WIL SKIP IN ORDER TO 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, AND THEN PLAY TRACK 8, 9, 10 - THEN SKIP A FEW MORE THEN PLAY A FEW MORE.
I HAVE E-MAILED APPLE AND THEY REPLIED WITH A FEW TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS. NOE OF THE TIPS WORKED.
THEN I CALLED AND THEY WALKED ME THROUGH A FEW MORE TIPS. NONE OF THEM WORKED. THEY RECOMMENDED I SEND ANOTHER E-MAIL WHICH I DID BUT I HAVENT HEARD ANYTHING YET.
i called again this morning and they recomended i go to the apple store. i went to the SOHO apple store in NYC. they performed nothing on my ipod. after he looked up my confirmation # and read through the notes, he told me i needed a new ipod but that there were none in stock
in the entire store. i find that very hard to believe!!!!
i also question his recommendation because the ipod is only 6months old and as i've mentioned, everything i transfer works fine on my ipod except this one album which i purchased from itunes. that is the only purchase i have ever made, and at this point it will probably be my last!!!
is there something else i can try before i go through the trouble of getting a new ipod.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    THANKS

After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
    Test the sound again.

  • 1st question: Can't Sync iPod touch 5th gen to another laptop, How do I sync it without loosing all of my music and info? 2nd question: How do I transfer a single onto the full album?

    I have two questions:
    1. When I first got an iPod touch (4th gen) I synced it (to start it up) on my mom's Mac Laptop. I finally got my own laptop and tryed to sync my music and info from my iPod to my ASUS laptop, but it said that the only way to do that was to clear all of my info. (I kinda forgot what it said my options were) but I am not sure what to do now. I want all of my stuff from my iPod on my laptop, but I don't want it to delete all of my stuff. Do I need to use a hard drive? Or download it another way other than syncing it?
    My second question was:
    2. I downloaded a single from iTunes before, but I ended up getting the full album later (CD) and downloaded it to my computer. Now I have two albums. One of them is just the single. And the other one is the whole album (other than the single). I want to put them together onto 1 album but I am not sure how to. How to I transfer the single onto the alum?
    Thank you

  • Album page is skipped on Ipod

    Hey,
I have a 60gb video ipod and I've had this problem ever since I bought it. If I have one album by an artist along with some other songs, with no album tag, the ipod will skip the album page when I select the artist, and go right to the song list. I realize the songs are still in the main song menu, but I cant access them through the artist unless I designate them an album tag. Anyone know how to fix this problem without designating these songs to an album?
    Thanks,
    Matt

To my knowledge you must designate an album for the songs. I submitted it as a bug to Apple; who knows if they'll fix it though. Browse my other posts on the subject for more info...

I purchased the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack albums as full album downloads from the iTunes Store. Since they were digital downloads, they didn't include copies of the CD booklets that come with physical copies.

    Thanks!

  • Can't purchase full album, can only get songs individually

I am connected to iTunes via the wifi on my iPod touch, and when trying to purchase an album it won't let me buy the full album it only let's me buy each song individually. The $12.99 button does nothing when I hit it, but the $1.29 button for each song works. The album has 18 songs so is a waste of money to do each song individually. This happens with every album I try, not just the album that I specifically want. I know the problem can't be with payment because I have just over a $23 balance from gift cards I have redeemed. Also purchasing music through the wifi on my iPod touch is my only option as my desktop computer crashed so I have no other way to put new music on my iPod. Any ideas, comments, solutions????? Any responses are greatly appreciated.

I can't purchase or even sign on to my account. I keep getting the "time out" error.
I did get the following response iTunes:
I understand your concern that you cannot connect to the iTunes Store.
As a result of overwhelming demand this holiday season--demand that surpassed even Apple's expectations--the iTunes Store is currently experiencing response times that are slower than normal.
During this time you may not be able to sign in to your account on the iTunes Store. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Please check back later. Thank you for your patience.

  • How do I remove a music album from my ipod

My ipod is nearly full and I would like to remove some albums (not just individual songs). Please can someone tell me you do this?
I thought that it would work like the apps with the checkbox but no it obviously isn't that simple.

    Gerald Raddatz wrote:
Music on your iPod is controlled through the application iTunes. You will first need to uncheck the songs and albums you do not want on your iPod in the iTunes Music folder and then sync.
Thant only works if (a) the user auto-syncs the iPod, and (b) the iPod is set to sync only checked items. If the iPod is manually managed, then you simply locate and delete the songs/ albums on the iPod (click the small triangle to the left of its name to expand its contents).

  • Itunes plays most songs, many full albums it pretends don't exist......

OK, I have never really had a problem with itunes before, nothing more than needing to update some tags when importing my library for the first time. But recently, a fresh reformat has left me wondering *** is going on.
I imported my library, error free from my storage HDD, and was listening to music as usual when I realized lots of full albums I knew I had, were missing from my ITunes window. I thought that was strange, so I went through, manually dragged the folders to the window, and it popped up with the dialog, saying it was adding those songs to the library. And yet, it didn't. The files are all mpeg-3. Every single song I have is, and its a crapshoot which ones will play and show up, and which won't... And I know all the songs were tagged properly, due to spending hours tagging everything in my collection properly.
So just to make sure they weren't listed under something else, I clicked a song from the folder itself to play. Nothing. A slight stutter as if ITunes was going to play the song, then nothing. I have since noticed a huge amount of albums missing, no random songs, full albums. And they will not play in ITunes.
Oh, they play in everything else, I have tried. Without any problem whatsoever. I have reinstalled itunes multiple times, browsed these forums to no avail, I am on my last nerve here, I use itunes because I keep my ipod updated with it, and I love the interface for handling large amounts of music. But I am ready to search elsewhere if 35% of my collection is unavailable to me.
    Please help, I am desperate.

What version ID3 tags? I've had best luck with v2.3 tags and iTunes. Othere versions mess with the artwork, it seems.

  • ITunes Purchased Album Skipping

The other day I downloaded two albums. One album works fine on all songs. The other album skips and has occasional glitches (sounds like if I had ripped from a scratched CD). It only happens on this album and happens both when played from the original file in iTunes and when played on my iPod. Any suggestions?

I too have had an issue with a skipping song from the iTunes store. The album is Killers by Iron Maiden. The iTunes Store response:
    {quote:title=[email protected] wrote:}I'm sorry to learn that "Prodigal Son" did not meet the standard of quality you have come to expect from the iTunes Store. I have submitted the item for investigation. Apple takes the quality of the items offered on the iTunes Store seriously and will investigate the issue with "Prodigal Son", but I can't say when or if the issue will be resolved. Please try again in a few weeks.{quote}
Hopefully they get this sorted. It's only been five days, but I'll try the download again in a few weeks as suggested (they credited me one track).
