Full capacity on my ipod :(

Hi guys, I would really appreciate it if you could spend some time to assist me Well you see, my ipod has ran out of space. I basically have an 8GB (essentially 7GB) ipod touch. In the past, like years back, I was able to store like 3 full pages of apps and games, yet my ipod still has space to contain them. However, now, I have deleted all or most of my apps in a bid to conserve space. I have effectively 4 apps left and 120mb of available space left. I'm not really sure if my ipod is messed up or I did something wrong, but  seem to be able to store fewer apps than before. Not really sure if this is important but the 'Other' under my ipod capacity is taking a massive 1.79GB. What exactly is this and is there a way to reduce the size of it? I really hope you guys can help me as I am caught in a fix. The number of songs has not changed and it is weird that 4 apps would take up the whole ~7GB Nonetheless, thank you for your patience

The description says it requires the TomTom car kit.  It needs GPS to work and the iPod does not have GPS.

  • Why is my iPod showing full capacity when it reaches 6.4GB when it is a 8GB iPod?

'I've had my 8GB iPod for nearly a year now and recently i filled it too full capacity, meaning i had to delete of things off it to continue adding music. But when i checked in the settings it said that it was full with 6.4GB used and 0GB availible, even though my iPod is 8Gb. Any help would be much appreciated

The other part is used for the system files for the system to run.
The 32GB has only 28GB available for use because the rest is uesed for system files.
That's how it is for all the iTouches.

  • Why is capacity on my ipod classic is significantly lower than expected?

I have a new 80 GB ipod classic. I loaded it with about 4 GB's or so of music in the first couple of days. Then on the the third day when I tried to add more music, it erased everything off the ipod that I had loaded previously and replaced it with the new music I had added by CD to my itunes library. Not knowing what to do, I "restored" the ipod by using the restore button then sync'd again with the result that all my music was back including the original music. The problem: it's as if the first 6 GB's of space is still used up and the scale on my summary tab shows the total capacity of my ipod as 74.31 GB's with only 5 GB's of music and other on the ipod. What is taking up the other space? It should be showing a total capacity of 80 BG with 75 GB's left. What's up? Any body know?

All hard drives never have the full advertised storage space, and as a general rule it's around 7% less than stated.
It's because hard drive manufacturers calculate hard drive space different than computers actually read it.

  • Storage capacity of the iPod Classic

I see a consistent breakdown of playback capacity for the line up of iPods that goes like this:
    -Classic - 160GB - 36 hours of music playback & 6 hours of video
    -Touch - 8GB - 30 hours of music playback & 6 hours of video
    -Touch - 32GB - 30 hours of music playback & 6 hours of video
    -Tourch - 64GB - 30 hours music playback & 6 hours of video
This makes no sense to me. Surely having more storage capacity results in the ability to play back more music and video.
I bought the iPod Classic specifically because I assumed it had much more playback capacity than the iPod Touch. Is this not the case for some reason?
Can somebody explain this to me please?
    LD

What your looking at is the playback time of the battery on a full battery charge, not the capacity of the iPod. Enjoy your Classic.

  • ERRONEOUSLY FILLING CAPACITY ON MY IPOD

When I connect my iPod to my computer, the computer is automatically and erroneously filling the iPod to its capacity. The iPod summary reflects that the capacity is basically full with 491.8 MB Audio and 3.25 GB Other (total capacity of iPod is ~4 GB). I manually manage the music on my iPod and I haven't downloaded anything other than audio to it...roughly 123 songs. Unsure what "other" represents. Twice I've restore my iPod to its original setting. This is a temporary solution to the problem as the problem resurfaces after a couple of days. Any ideas as to what I can do to resolve the problem?

I had a similar problem caused by my iPod attempting to use a drive letter that was already in use. iTunes was displaying the capacity of that drive instead of the capacity of my iPod. I changed the drive letter for my iPod, and everything works like a charm now. Here are some links to get started.

  • How do i get rid of the "0ther" capacity on my ipod shuffle?

How do i get rid of the "other" capacity on my ipod shuffle??

Other consists of album artwork, the iPod's software, and files that cannot be categorized elsewhere such as corrupted files leftover from failed sync operations with iTunes.  Obviously the artwork doesn't apply in this situation since you own an iPod Shuffle, so at this point, we can probably assume that this Other content is corrupted files.
In order to reduce the size of other, you'll need to restore the iPod Shuffle to factory settings in iTunes.

  • 3,6 GB capacity on a iPod with 4 GB?

It feels like there´s less capacity in my iPod nano now than when I bought it.
Could this be true and if so: Can I reclaim the lost capacity?

The reason that there is not completley 4 gigs is because of the space that the folders and programs that came in the ipod!!
No, it isn't. The OS accounts for a few mbs of storage space at most.
It's the way that storage space is calculated by manufacturers, and the way that computers read it differently.
A 4GB Nano is 4 billion bytes (decimal 4,000,000,000) of storage according to the operating system. This is because the operating system doesn't see it as a Flash memory. It sees it as an actual hard drive.
As such, 4 billion bytes to the operating system is reported as about 3.7GB of storage because of the decimal-to-binary conversion.

  • HT201269 I am struggling to synch my iPod from iTunes(on my macbook air) since the volume of data exceeded the capacity of my iPod,any ideas?

I had no problems with syching my ipod through the USB cable till I updated the OS on my macbook air and also grew my music catalogue on itunes beyond the capacity of the ipod.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • New battery full capacity 4200 mah

I calibrated my macbook battery and the full capacity read 4102 after 11 cycles. Having read somewhere on the internet that these batteries have a rating of 5200-5400 I decided to go to an Apple Genius bar. He replaced the battery but when I looked in system profiler the full charge reading was 4200. He said that it is ok and stated that the rating is about 4500.
Can anybody confirm the rating for me. I can't seem to find in the internet that gives the specs of these batteries. I am annoyed because I do not want a replacement battery which only charges to 80%. If I go back I need to have confirmation of the rating of 5200 mah
Is it possible that my computer is showing an incorrect figure?
Any advice would be much appreciated

Maybe someone more savvy with battery technology can answer this, but I don't understand how they can still be putting 4200 mAh batteries into these things when a sub-$400 Asus 1000HE netbook can put in a battery of 8800 mAh and get (in the real world) 6-7 hours of usage.
I bought this thing knowing full well that a 4200 mAh battery is pretty pathetic, but still, one wonders why this would be the case.

Currently my iPod has 223 songs and is at 891.3 mb capacity. I noticed in the connections that data accounts for 80MB of the space. Enable disk drive is not checked and the slider is to the left for more songs.

    Thanks in advance.

  • IPod mini won't hold the full capacity of songs - HELP PLEASE!

In the past few weeks, my library has grown from 500 to maybe 850 songs. Since the ipod mini holds 1000(is that correct?) I should have no problem. Well there is one: it sais "there is not an efficient amount of space" or whatever, meaniing i have too many songs. So i look on my mini and it says that there are only 590 songs on it! There's plenty of room! So, can't it hold 850?
    please help!
    Sincerely,
