Full Charge Icon Frozen 30GB 5th Gen

My Ipod ran out of battery today so I charged it for a couple hours & the little plug icon indicating that it is fully charged showed up. So, I unplugged it and started to play my Ipod. I noticed the plug in the upper corner never went away, nor did it show the battery life. Then a little later I went into a playlist to play a song & the Ipod froze. So, I reset it and it started working again, but the "plug/fully charged" icon was still up in the corner, even after I had been playing it for an hour or so.
Then when I turn my Ipod off, the "plug/fully charged" icon appears and stays on the screen until I turn it on again.
What is going on? And now I just tried to plug it into my computer and it wont recognize my Ipod either will Itunes.. AHHH!!! What a nightmare..! This is the 3rd Ipod I have had.. Do these things ever work for very long.. ?

In all honesty, your best bet is to scour the Apple web site and find an older version of iTunes, download it, do a full erase/uninstall of your current version (even get rid of the preferences file), and install the newly-downloaded version of iTunes. The only drawback is that you can't even use your old iTunes Library file, so you have re-establish EVERYTHING.
But at least then you'll be using an older, better version of iTunes.

  • ITunes 7 does recognize 30gb 5th gen and will not update to 1.2

Upgraded to iTunes 7, program no longer recognizes 30GB 5th gen. Windows does pick it up. So, I plug it in, explorer window for removeable drive appears, iTunes does not launch. With iTunes open, explorer window opens and there is no effect in iTunes.
By restarting the Windows iPod service, plugging in the iPod and launching iTunes manually I am able to sync the library. At this point I am prompted to update iPod to software version 1.2. If I choose to, iTunes seems to begin the updating process, but within 10 seconds the iPod becomes safe to disconnect and is effectively ejected from iTunes. The progress bar indicating the software update continues indefinitely (I have let it run for over an hour like this, nothing actually happens.)
I reverted back to iTunes 6.x and all issues ceased. However I would like to be able to use version 7 and update to the newest iPod software 1.2. I have tried everything else in the "iPod recognized by Windows but not iTunes topic" and nothing seems to get me anywhere.
There has been no loss of functionality of the iPod, the only issues are with iTunes recognizing it.
I am kind of at a loss here.

OK, I've had a similar problem and spent a few weeks banging my head off my desk in frustration. The iTunes 7 "upgrade" effectively made anything connected to my USB 2 ports unrecognized by Windows. After a lot of forum searching, following all relavent Apple help articles and such, I was no further along. I finally got up and running again, but I have to use iTunes 6, which means I cannot upgrade the iPod software. I'm waiting for a few updates down the road before I upgrade again. Be sure to create a system restore point before trying to upgrade again! I can't stress this enough! Anyway, to see the steps I went through to eventually solve my problem (and hopefully yours) go here:

It's my opinion that with a lot of users, iTunes 7 corrupts the windows registry somehow... C'mon, Apple, fix this buggy piece of crap already! As it stands, the only reason I use it is for my iPod, otherwise I rip, burn, organise, and tag with Musicmatch... no worries so far with that...

  • No more 'full charge' icon and erratic battery behaviour

    I have a 40g 3G, thirteen months old, and it's going nuts.
Two weeks ago it stopped showing the 'full charge' icon when charging, it just goes on and on and on, either with AC or Firewire. The meter in the screen is numerical, and it never goes over 500. This means about five hours continuous play, unless I need to fiddle with the songs: the moment the hard drive spins again, the meter loses some 100 volts, picking them up again in a few seconds. Trouble is, when the meter goes under 200 the iPod screen shows the 'no battery power left' on the screen (not the icon, the message), then goes dead.
I tried resetting a million times, I even restored it. No use. I left it for a week to kill the battery off, but it just doesn't really ever die! The moment I click, the Apple logo comes out, but the moment the HD starts spinning, it all dies.
I went on doing this for days... please tell me I'm the one going nuts.

My Lightning to 30-Pin Connector will only play music through my iPod dock from my iPod, and will not charge my iPod touch 5th gen. Help me please.

Have you tried resetting the dock by removing it from power?  What about resetting the iPod Touch? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • I charged my ipod touch 5th gen 32gb for 4 hours but it still drains fast like a fast charge

Even though I charged it for 4 hours, it acts like it was fast charged without me doing much activity except alittle 3D game and some videos. Is the battery defective?

How long does a full charge (at least four hours) last? Getting about 5 hours of video is normal

  • Video dissable on new 30gb 5th gen Ipod

Ok I just bought my first Ipod, I got the 30gb black 5th generation Ipod.
When trying to browse thru all the features, I found thet the video option on my Itunes when looking at the Ipod options is dissable, grayed-out, it like I can go thru every tab on the screen and everything is there and you can customize the way you sync your music, podscasts and photos the way you want it, manually or automatic, but the video tab wont let me choose anything, then if I try to drag a Video from my library to the Ipod it will say that my ipod cannot pl;ay videos.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks in advance

Well its the disk that came with the Ipod, just got it on the mail yesterday. I think is version 6. not sure what patch is it. But shouldn't it work right away with the same software that comes with the Ipod package?
Can I try that Ipod on a second computer runnign the latest Itunes or is it tie to only one computer?

  • 30GB 5th gen wasn't recognized by computer or itunes

This is for info only as my ipod is working again. On 3/15 I plugged my ipod into my computer to sync what I just bought from the itunes store. I had upgraded itunes the week before to 7.6.1.9 and when I plugged my ipod in was prompted to upgrade it to 1.3. The ipod started syncing but then the Do Not Disconnect window went away, but itunes thought it was still connected. I went thru different things and ended up somehow upgrading to 1.3 but then my ipod only had the album I had purchased that morning and one song purchased the week before. My over 3GB of music was no longer on the ipod! (but weird, my pictures were still there.) My computer would then see the ipod for like 2 seconds (no exageration) and then nothing. itunes thought it saw it but I'd try to restore and an error came up (1418 or -50). (I downloaded itunes upgrade again, reset the ipod, restarted my computer, but I stopped short of reloading itunes.) I plugged it into my husband's computer, it saw my ipod and then I tried it on mine (after removing the 1.3 files from the upgrade directory) and I was able to get version 1.2.3 back on my ipod and all my music back on it too. I don't know what the deal was but it seems pretty coincidental that the two version upgrades were done and then this. I've had my ipod for over a year and never a problem. If anyone does have an idea what the problem was please post it. I won't upgrade my ipod until 1.3 is gone!

hi, i was having the same problem as u did, is my first time to encounter this, i was suppose to sync my 6th generation ipod classic but then instead of syncing automatically a dialog box showed up asking for my ipod's name, so it means the initial set up was initiated, i canceled it instead of clicking ok.then what i did was i restarted my comp and opened my computer, but i was surprised because once itunes recognized my ipod, the drive f ( that's my ipod) on my comp would suddenly turned off and disappear, meaning if my my comp would recognize my ipod, itunes would and vice versa...my itunes version now is 7.4.1.2 i downloaded the new version, until now i wasn't able to resolve the probelem hope u can tell me what i did, i dont have any other comp to test my ipod with..thanks

  • Cannot get Dell laptop to recognize 30GB 5th gen. Ipod in any way!

I've followed all of the steps on both Apple and Dell's websites that could supposedly be the cause of this problem and have not had any success! I think it may be a matter of installing an outside driver, but I'm not sure I know what to do once the proper driver is installed. When i open the "add hardware wizard" The current status of the Ipod is "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)" Any help at all would be greatly appreciated-thanks in advance!

    hi mols!
hmmmm. the iPod uses the standard Windows USB mass storage drivers, so we're not looking for drivers from an external source.
we had success with a code 28 recently using the techniques from this MarkJones post:

  • 30gb 5th gen. Probs syncing.

    Keep getting error -69.
Have all up to date software etc.
Also have reset and restored ipod and all settings back to factory.
Starts to sync then get the error.
    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try running a disk check out the iPod using the tools provided by windows.
    To do this:
    1. Plug in your iPod and close iTunes.
    2. Go to "My Computer". Click on the iPod drive once. Go to File, and then click Properties.
    3. Go to the Tools tab. Under "Error Checking", click Check Now.
    4. Check both boxes. One says "Automatically fix file system errors" and the other says "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". Place a check mark next to each of these options and hit Start.
The scan may take several minutes or more to complete, but once it has, go ahead and restart iTunes, and try re-syncing files to your iPod.

  • 5th gen wont hold charge!

I have a 30gb 5th gen, its around 3 years old (so, out of warranty), and for the last week it has been refusing to charge. When i put it on my Logitech speakers it is fully functional and the battery symbol says it is charging, but no matter how long i leave it on there it dies the second i take it off! my laptop has also stopped recognising it when i plug in to the usb. I have read lots of posts from people with the same problem but have still not found a definitive answer. Is there a solution or is my ipod officially dead?

    Time for a new battery.

  • "the iPod cannot be synced. An unknown error occured. (-48)." 5th gen

I recently updated to the latest version of iTunes. (9.0.2) Since I did that, iTunes recognizes my 5th generation iPod (the iPod with video), but it won't sync. At first, a dialogue box appeared saying that my iPod needed to be reformatted for windows. I don't know why it said that, because it has ALWAYS been formatted to Windows, that never changed. I clicked on the button to re-format it anyway. Now, my ipod won't sync. I keep getting the same error message that I described in the subject line. I ran diagnostics and everything is fine, iTunes finds my iPod, but when I do the sync test it says it cannot be found. Something about the ipod driver or file. I just plugged in my ipod the other day before the software update and everything was fine. Could this be a bug in the new software version? Or did my driver or file or whatever get deleted during the upgrade somehow? Please help. Here are the results from the sync test:
