Full length movies

Okay I am new at this iPod thing. I have held out til now so that I can watch movies on it. So I am thinking about buying this new iPod, but I am not sure it will be worth it unless I know if eventually I will be able to purchase full length movies from iTunes. It seems that they only have movie trailers on iTunes right now. Or is it easy to convert DVD's that I already own to get them to play on the iPod? Since iTunes isn't very clear on this subject... can someone help me out here? It would be greatly appreciated.

Jennifer - it is absolutely fantastic. I've bought every ipod since they came out, and almost every bit of mac kit available - and this is, I think, the most impressive yet.
Ripping dvds is very very simple using free software (Handbrake for the mac, though there are PC programs too), though time-wise can be a labour of love if you have a big collection. It is eminently watchable on the ipod screen, or else is perfectly good plugged into a TV.
Lots of excellent posts in this forum tell you how to convert your DVDs.
I love it - it's huge on the WOW factor. Buy one immediately!

  • FULL LENGTH MOVIES?? (HELP)

Hello... I received an 8GB Ipod Nano (3rd Gen) for Christmas...and the reason I asked for it in the first place was because it included video playback (i did see a couple of ads with 'zoolander' and 'the matrix' on the site...) so i naturally thought it would play full length movies (does it?...at least it has the memory).
PROBLEM IS every time i attempt to sync a full length movie (obviously in mpeg-4 file) near the end a window pops saying "ATTEMPTING TO CONNECT TO LEX-POD FAILED. THE DISK COULD NOT BE READ OR WRITTEN TO". The file i was trying to sync was 113 minutes long. It has synced other videos, but only in the 4 - 30 minute range. It plays games and music perfectly fine (artwork and all). My computer is up to date... and i have no idea what could be happening, so if anybody could help me with this issue I would highly appreciate it.

well...basically i figured out the way to put a full length movie into my ipod nano. i guess i wasn't paying much attention to the resolution...and lets just say i changed from 'videora' to 'jodix free ipod converter'...so thats about it! ^_^

  • Best software for fitting full length movies on to DVD?

I have Toast 6 Titanium, which i find is a great program for all my burning needs. However, recently i've been wanting to burn a few movies i have downloaded. The problem seems to be that full length movies rarely fit on to DVD. I don't really understand it as most DVD's say they can hold around 4GB of data and the movies i download are rarely over 1GB. It's just that burning them as a DVD Movie disk seems to take up an awful lot of room.
I heard there was software out there designed to compress it all down and squeeze the whole thing on to one disk and i was just wondering if that is true and which software applications out there are best for this?
    Many thanks,
    Steve.

I got Toast 10 just to check out that feature. Unfortunately 'Fit To DVD' is not under the DVD-Video burning section of Toast. Fit To DVD is only available as a function for copying pre-existing DVD's, I'm trying to burn a DVD from an AVI file i've downloaded from the net. I can't believe no one out there seems to know of a program that could help me out here.

Phil0124:  Sorry, I guess that I may not have communicated clearly initially.  The reason that I asked about the DVD reading capability in the first place is that I would like to be able to watch a movie "stand-alone" (like on an airplane) on my iPad without having an internet connection.  If VUDU is strickly a streaming service that wouldn't satisfy my needs after all.  After looking into the iTunes store offerings, I can see that I can either purchase a movie or rent one from them.  Either way, as I understand it, the content would then reside in a file in the iTunes folder in my computer (if rented, this would just be temporarily) and could be viewed on my computer and/or transferred to my iPad for viewing.  Considering the legal question, isn't there a copy being made and transferred into my possession.  So,what's up with that?
Yes Vudu streams. iTunes does not. If you buy or rent a movie on your computer through the iTunes store, then you are legally entitled to transfer that movie to your digital device as long as that device is under the Same Apple ID used to download it to the computer, and is authorized to view the content. Usually this is the case if your device is synced with iTunes on the computer  This is legal and covered by the terms of use of the iTunes store.
If your rent a movie on your computer you can also transfer it to your iPad but it will be removed from the computer as rentals can only exist in one place at a time. When the rental period expires the movie will be automatically removed from your computer or device, wherever it is when the rental period expires.
If you buy a movie on your iPad these can be transferred to your computer using the Transfer Purchases button on iTunes on your computer while the iPad is connected to it.   Rentals on iPads or other mobile device cannot be transferred and must be watched in the iPad or device that download them.
All of these methods through the iTunes store download the complete movie to the device or computer, so no internet connection is required for watching at a later date.
Rentals have a 30 day life as long as they haven't begun to be watched.  Once the movie has been started then it has a 48 hour expiry period. That is you must finish watching the rented movei within 48 hours of rental as after that it is removed from the device.  You can watch it as many times as you want in that period of time though.

  • Approximately how many full length movies can a 30g ipod video hold?

Approximately how many full length movies can a 30g ipod video hold?

Most of the movies I have are around 450 mb. So for a 30 gig iPod you should get around 60 movies. I use Handbrake to rip movies for the iPod on my mac and Cucusoft to rip them on my XP machine. The size is user selectable and averages around 400 to 500 mb.

  • Can I play full-length movies? if so, how?

i'm new to ipod, just purchased a 60gb video... now, i'm trying to figure out how to purchase and play full-lenth movies or tv shows on my ipod... i see they have movie trailers on the site, but dont see anything about purchasing the full show.... can someone help? thanx in advance

First off any kind of video work requires a computer that is up to the task. Video conversion puts a lot of stress on hardware. In any case you should have a second clean harddrive, plenty of memory and a fast CPU with a good power supply (400 watts). If you are having trouble getting the software to even run, then you have problems with your operating system that need to be fixed first.

  • Can't import full length movies into itunes

  • Include trailer on full length movie

I just finished a vacation project using iMovie 11.  Just for fun, I made use of the trailer feature.  I cannot however figure out how I can include the trailer on the same dvd as the primary project.  Must they be two separate dvds?
    Thank you in advance,
    gary

    Hi Gary,
They can both be on the same DVD. In iDVD, with your main project open, go to the menu and select Project>Add Movie. A button will be placed on the Theme background labelled "Add Movie Here". Now drag your Trailer directly onto this button. You can rename the button as desired, and reposition it.
Before doing all this, rather than exporting (sharing) the Trailer using Share>iDVD, choose Share>Media Browser. In iDVD, at the bottom right of the window, click on Media then the Movies tab. You will find your exported Trailer in the Movies panel - just drag this onto the new button as I described.
Note that if you use Share>iDVD, a new project will be opened by iDVD containing the Trailer - this is not what you want. So, use Share>Media Browser. This method also produces a better quality DVD than when using Share>iDVD.

  • What is the best way to burn full hd movie to dvd

Hi i need to find the best way to burn full hd movie from panasonic camcorder to dvd thanks

    Hi
    There is NON !
as DVD is as Standard (Whatever program used) - only Interlaced SD-Video Quality
So if You need better then
    • Use Blu-Ray (Roxio Toast™ + BD-Burner and Disks)
    • or Save out to an USB-Memory stick and play this
What's worse is that iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - Can not deliver even DVD-Standard but degrades the quality by discarding every second line in the picture. This happens when going from Eventy's to Project's - Ther is no way around this but to use another program that can deliver as
    • iMovie up to HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
If iMovie 08-11 are only option then do not
    • Share to iDVD - as this also degrades the final DVD - but -
    • Share to Media Browser - and as MEDIUM (or ev. as Large) - NOT HD or other resolution as this too degrades the final DVD due to BAD downscaling in iDVD program.
    My notes on DVD quality:
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices

TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

  • Movie on a slide in Keynote doesn't play the full length

How do I get a embedded quicktime movie to play on a slide to it's full length. (4 min) when the other slide durations are shorter? The movie will only play as long as the delay duration that is set up for the self-playing slide show. Any way around this?

The trick I've always used is to set the slide's
transition to start 'Automatically' instead of 'On
Click', then entered a delay. That seems to nicely
override the global delay just for that slide.
    Shane
    Shane:
That works well if you play the slideshow on the computer only. I exported the slideshow as a quicktime movie to burn it to a DVD. It plays the full length of the embedded movie (4 min.), but then delays (4 min.) until it transitions to the next slide. Guess I can't have my cake and eat it too?

  • How do i export multiple full resolution movie files at the same time in final cut pro 6?

I've been using Final Cut Pro since version 3 came out, know the program well, have even had jobs consisting of just operating the program.  I'm currently running version 6 because that's the latest one that works on my computer.  Back in verison 3, there used to be an option under Export to export a "Final Cut Pro" movie, which was really a Quicktime movie but appeared with a FCP icon and defaulted to opening in FCP, but the important thing about it is that it was a full resolution copy of the movie with no compression.  Now, that option seems to have been changed to "export Quicktime movie."  In my opinion that change is kind of stupid since it is so much less specific and is even less of an implication that one is exporting a full resolution file.  But in fact you are.
One also has the option of using Compressor to export a version of a movie, and therein there are so many different options that if you are not confused by it I think there's something wrong with you.  Moreover, it would appear that there is no equivalent of exporting a full resolution version of a file in Compressor.  Fair enough: a full-resolution file involves no compression so is not appropriate for "Compressor."  BUT, suppose you want to export multiple uncompressed, full-resolution movies at once.  When you use Compressor, you are able to create batch lists and export many things at the same time, for instance, lists that will take many hours to complete so you can go to bed and get the results the next day.  But as far as I can tell there is no way to do this at full resolution without compression.  Instead you have to sit at the computer waiting for each one to finish and after each one, manually go to the next and select "export Quicktime movie."  Even if there is a way to do this I would complain that such an obviously desireable thing is so unaccessable.  In fact, the only reason I've typed out my question at such length is because I'm stuck here waiting for each one of my movies to export.
Anyway, all my complaints aside, anyone know how to do this?

what you're missing to export multiple files is the batch export command available in the file menu or by control clicking on the items in the browser.  You can export multiple sequences/clips at full resolution with this.
This has been available in fcp for a long long time.
Wow, you are right.  Now that you mention it, I can't believe I never noticed that.  Thanks.
Only if you have the 'Self-Contained' box checked.  Otherwise you'll end up with a reference movie.
Correct.  That box is typically checked by default.  There are other default settings you could change that would not result in a full-quality version, but what I meant was hitting that option from the pull-down menu, then changing nothing and hitting ok.

  • Full length feature on FCP from mini-DV... benchmarking comparable DVD's

After over a year of post production, we just completed a full length kids’ feature film shot on a DVX-100A and edited in FCP. The title is "The Bracelet of Bordeaux", and the movie info is on IMDb and our website. This was a large scale project, with almost 300 actors, 50 crew members and 18 interior/exterior locations. There were over 60 shooting days. It was shot on mini-DV due to budgetary considerations.
The movie’s look-feel is exceptional, especially when viewed on a Mac HD screen and Sony NTSC monitor. However, when we first tested the movie in a theatre, playing a DVD through a high-end projection system, the quality was terrible. Ultimately, we achieved outstanding results by playing directly off the uncompressed FCP timeline through a Barco Hi Def projector and onto a 40-ft screen. We held a major theatrical test screening (3,000 people attended 10 shows), and the movie’s visual quality was stunningly good, receiving acclaim from audiences and critics. The results looked particularly film-like in the mid to back rows of the theatre (even numerous professional viewers thought that it was film). You can view audience comments and media reviews on IMDb.
Now we are creating a DVD to send to film festivals and prospective distributors. Of course, we will not be able to determine the projection system used at the festivals and the movie will mostly be exhibited from a DVD. I would like to know what full length feature films are out there, which were shot on mini-DV (especially the DVX100 or 100A), and edited on FCP, so I can use them to benchmark our DVD results. I have been living in the edit dungeon for over 14 months and have not kept track of movies shot in mini-DV and editing on Macs. Also, please provide any observations about the cinematic quality of these films

    this film was shot DV
However I can't help feel you are about to embark on a wild goose chase.
If you are going to distribute a movie on DVD for projection in multiple theatres with different equipment for screenings you will not attend I don't see what you hope to achieve.
DVD is by nature a "standard" without too much room for manoeuvre if you are supplying what must effectively be labelled a consumer market. You will have to conform your movie to a bitrate which is sympathetic to all DVD players and not for example use a DVD9 and a higher bitrate for a DVD player you own and know will work.
Cinematic quality is subjective also, which has a true film look The Sound of Music or The Matrix ? There are plenty of filters out there to give a film look and feel but to be honest the defining factor between film and video is often the quality of lighting, acting and camera work and not so much a blatant "look". It's audience acceptance of a piece in a theatre environment, which is a big help in the first place since we all associate the cinema with film (oh and adverts for the local tandoori).
Your film will look inherently different to the competition and so it should . . don't compare it!

  • No sound when watching full-screen movies or TV shows in iTunes after update to 11.1

After updating to iTunes 11.1, any full-screen movies or TV shows I try to play on my Thunderbolt display with my MacBook Pro have no audio. If I plug in speakers or headphones, I get audio, just not from the Thunderbolt display. Audio works fine from MBP.
Weird thing is, if I plug in other speakers or headphones and then *unplug* them, the Thunderbolt display's speakers start working again. Every time you start a new show or movie, though, you have to do this again after the full-screen video opens on the display.
Really weird. I obviously suspect i has something to do with the 11.1 update to iTunes 'cause audio works just fine through the display for iTunes music and other content and for the web and all other apps and games, whether they're in full-screen mode or not.
Keep checking Software Update hoping to see that "1" badge pop up on the App Store, lol.
    Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks allen222! I've been banging my head against this issue as well - glad to hear it's fixed in Mavericks - was planning to upgrade shortly.

  • Problem related to display column's full length as default in table control

    Hi Experts,
I have a screen in report program. In that a table control has been designed.
Now the issue is that when report program has been executed and the table control screen is called on a particular action then the table columns full length is not visible as default however when i checked the screen layout the default and visible length of colum header and column field is as per required.
For example  - We have a Period field with default length as 6 and visible length as 15. Its column header is Period with both default length as 15 and visible length as 15.
The period field has an internal table field reference and its format is NUMC.
While column header Period is Text field created of type CHAR.
Please suggest. Any help or inputs will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Akash

    Hi
set cursor field 'WA_CODFOD-C_NOTE_NO' line mline.
The value of MLINE can be from 1 and N, where N is the number of the lines shown in the table control, so if your table control can display 5 line, MLINE will be from 1 to 5.
Now you need to create the link between the line of the table control and the line of internal table, the rule is:
    Internal Table Line = <table control>-TOP_LINE + <table control line> - 1.

    Hi expert,
I have cost center field in the report, but its value has been truncated in the report, such as for value 'FO GM operation canada eastern region', it is truncated as 'FO GM operation ca' in the report. can you please tell how to disply value in full length.
    Many Thanks,

    Hi,
what is the length of cost center -
open the BEx designer -> select the cost center object -> go to general tab -> select the display as -> text and long text
in BW system maintain the text table -> select the cost center object -> go to the master data text -> click on the with text (short, medium, long text) -> activate.
after activating the object check the text in query designer.
    Thanks,
