Full music archive

I am receiving a "Full Music Archive" warning when I am trying to sync my tracks to iTunes.  Does anyone know what this is about?
Also, I continue to be unable to access the iTunes Store with the latest version of iTunes (10.5).

Your keyboard should have a Print Screen button somewhere. You just press that and then paste into your favourite image editing software. Paint.NET is particularly handy for a quick crop down. You can then add the resulting image into a post with the camera icon in the edit window.
Under Edit > Preferences > Advanced tab do you have Copy to iTunes Media folder when adding to library selected? If so iTunes will be trying to make copies of anything you add. Turn the feature off, at least for now, and you should be able to add new stuff to the library.
Once a group of tracks have been added you can see if iTunes is able to consolidate them.
Are you actually trying to drag & drop 100Gb in one go? That may cause iTunes to choke, particularly if it is trying to build up a list of files it is going to copy. Alternative methods of adding to the library would be to copy smaller chunks of data over to the new drive, then move them into the Automatically add to iTunes folder for iTunes to catalogue and rearrange. You can also use iTunes Folder Watch to scan your library folder for files that have been copied across but perhaps have been omited from the library when things have failed to work properly.
Chance are your merged library will contain dupes. I have a tool to help erradicate them at http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp#DeDuper.
Performance may be improved with the library folder on an internal drive. (You should be able to move the library files around as long as you leave the media in place). There is probably a power relationship between performance and library size. Keeping numbers of smart playlists down helps. Probably a good move to exclude your iTunes folder from real-time AV scans as well.

  • Mirroring iTunes for sound/music archive?

    Hi,
I'm currently working in a postproduction company for a German News Television station. We have recently changed to Final Cut.
We'd like to us iTunes for our music archive and this is where the problem starts:
Basically we'd like to be able to have a shared library folder for all of our 5 editing suites from which we can work at the same time. The folder would of course be on a network drive. This is important, as we'd like to have the same library accessible to everyone and being updated instantly whenever someone adds music to it.
Why we can’t just use the ‘shared music’ – option: We need to be able to feed the Information with tags manually that aren’t provided automatically by iTunes and we would like to have ONE library rather then 5 different ones. Plus only one of the editing suites is connected to the Internet, which is necessary for automatically downloading ID3-Tags.
We were thinking about external FireWire Harddrives which are synced every other week, which then is of course more work and we'd have to tell iTunes every time that new music has been added to the library folder.
It would be fantastic if anyone knows a way how to make this happen, a way to work around it or any another feasible solution.
    Bye,
    Sandro

You can have two iTunes libraries on your computer, or more if you wish. I have four on mine for various purposes, all in the same Mac OS X user account (you can also have multiple Mac OS X user accounts, each which its own iTunes library).
To create a new iTunes library, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589
Navigate to wherever you wish to create the new library (I'd suggest having a separate folder for it so that all the files are contained) and click the Create Library button. That will create a new, empty iTunes library. You can then use that library for your background music and sound effects. To switch back and forth between libraries, just again launch iTunes with the Option key held down, click the Choose Library button, and select the appropriate library.
BTW, are you familiar with SoundByte? It's software that simulates the functionality of the cartridge players used in many radio stations. I don't know if that would be of interest to you, but I thought I'd mention it.
    Regards.

  • HT1351 how can i get my full music library that exists on my ipad back onto my PC?  (my PC was recently updated and only has about half the full library)

i have an ipad 2.  it has my full music library on it.  i recently had to remove itunes completely from my PC.  it is now put back on the PC, but it only has about half of my music libary.  Only purchased songs were backed up on icloud.  so, how do i transfer all the songs that exist on my ipad 2 back onto my PC?

  • Loaded itunes on a new computer, and synced ipad.  Now only those few songs I had on the ipad are in my library.  But all of my ipods (3) have my full music library.  How do i get all my songs moved back into my library from one of my ipods?

I installed itunes on a new laptop, with Windows 8, and synced my ipad.  Now my music library has only those few songs I had synced to the ipad, or roughly a quarter of my original library.  My ipods (all three) still have the full library, but everytime I try to sync them, I am asked if I want to delete all of the contents and replace with the (much smaller) itunes library.  Of course I don't, but how do I "reverse sync" and replace all the music contents of my library with the contents from one of my ipods?

  • Using non AAC Formats for 'Futureproof' music archive

My music collection is currently in lossy AAC format on my Imac with 80Gb hard drive. I would like to re-rip my c.d.s to a loseless format for future proofing and store on a new hard drive with such low price / gig. The idea would be to run a script converting them to AAC for current Imac / Ipod combo, but in future may script convert to Flac and or OGG or even WMA if I ever (doubtfully) leave the Apple fold.
Has anybody done similar here? Any advice? Flac or WAV, can I store all the useful metadata against WAV files or is this held in iTunes database files? Does anybody know of such scripts of batch conversions?

I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you my experiences.
My library still had some albums ripped with iTunes 1.0, at 128 kbps MP3.
Then there were several CDs, ripped at 192 kbps MP3 and 128 kbps AAC.
I recently replaced the HD of my Mac for a larger and faster one, so plenty of room and time to standardize my collection.
I re-ripped my entire CD collection (modest, I think, about 60 discs) in Apple Lossless, stored it for archival purposes on an external HD and converted the whole lot to AAC 320 kbps.
At re-ripping, iTunes will ask if it's OK to replace the existing files. There the first problem arose. It will only do so if the names it gets from Gracenote on inserting the CD, exactly matches those of the library.
Looking on Doug's site, I found Copy Track Info to CD Tracks.
Perfect. All artwork and lyrics eventually were automatically copied to the re-ripped tracks. Also the Date Added, Ratings and Play Counts were preserved.
    Cool!
After archiving all lossless files to an external HD, I converted them to AAC and deleted the Lossless files from my internal drive.
As for FLAC. iTunes doesn't support that format and I can't tell you if and how the metadata is stored (just don't know). The same applies to OGG.
WAV doesn't support tagging and you can't add artwork or lyrics to it (options are greyed out)
AIFF (also uncompressed like WAV) officially doesn't support tagging either, but iTunes attaches artwork to the file (as can seen by the increasing file size).
    Hope this helps.

  • Zen microphoto wont load full music library

+?hello. i've had the zen microphoto 4gb?for about 5 yrs now..and never had any problems, untill now. last night when i was putting more music on it, when i unplugged it from the computer, it froze up on me, and i had to take out the battery to get it to turn off and?re-boot. but now it will only goes a /4 of the way through "rebuilding library"? screen, stalls for a min, then jumps to the music screens,?and over 800+ songs and all my playlist and even a few genre's are gone. please help. is there any way to get the full library to re-load? when i go to the infomation section of the player, its stating that i only have 20 songs on it, but that i only have 45mb of memory left, thats what it was saying when i had my full 000+ songs on it. i really dont want to have to format it and start all over again, is there anything i can do to get my player to rebuild the full library. thanks in advanced.

Your music files are someplace else besides the player? What is the problem with formatting the player? It would most likely solve your issue. Just go back into recovery mode do the format >cleanup>reboot & reload your music back on to the player.

  • Movies / Music Archiving badly needed

To archive some music, one must only make a music CD. I know this is not much of a option, especially when one has a lot of music.
For Movies, its even worse. The only way I can see to archive your purchased movies is to use the Back-Up feature, but let's face it. It's not what we want.
I want to be able to look into my box of neatly organized DVD's, choose a movie that I have purchased from iTunes last year, stick it in my well beloved Mac. and stream my movie to my TV with my slightly aging iTV.
And I want to do this without having to run any restore software, and I sure want to do this without having to put the movie back onto my hard-drive.
Why will i want to do this. The answer is easy. I have a older PB with 80 Gig. that fills up very very fast. I need a way to free up some space, and by being a movie nut, 80 Gig is nothing.
So Apple, what's a guy to do ?????
PS. I also want to be able to buy in other places other than the US.

    was not answered !

  • I upgraded to windows 8 and itunes only has my purchased songs.  I have another 1,000  from CDs in my ipod touch but if I sync then it wipes them out.  How do I get the full music listings back into Itunes?

I have 2 touches....1 just had all its music wiped out when I tried to Sync to repopulate the itunes libraries.
How do I get all my music from CDs on my touch into my new version of Itunes?

    Ignore.  I figured it out:)

  • My ipod is not playing the full music track.why

on some music tracks they are not playing to the end .on the computer they play to the end and on my phone but not on ipod .why could this be .

You may have tapped the Shuffle button (looks like two arrows crossing path) in Blue.  Tap it once again to turn it off.

  • Email account folder in /user/library/mail is much larger than full mailbox archive for the same account

    Hi,
I recently changed jobs and want to archive all email (with attachments in place) for the associated work email account.  I also plan to remove the old work email account (IMAP) from the list of active mailboxes in Apple Mail.  I don't want Spotlight searches for personal or current work email cluttered with results from my old job.
I have created an archive of the old work account by doing Mailbox Archive for all of the IMAP folders for that account.  The entire archive is 1.7GB in size.
Before I delete the old account from my Mail preferences, I want to make sure that I have really exported everything.  So I've compared the size of the new archive folder with that of the mailbox folder in users/.../Library/Mail for that same account.  That latter is 8.7GB in size.  Why the enormous difference?
Can the difference be attributed to lack of compression and indices (which would be rebuilt if I import the archive) for spotlight searches?  Am I missing something in the archive that I created?
I've created a zip of the system folder.  Can I easily restore this at a latter time if I delete the email account from my Mail preferences?
Is there a better way to achieve my objective?
    Mitoids

I did find a "Recovered Messages" by looking in the the Mail client under "On My Mac" (I don't normally use that feature).  One message with an accicental 99MB attachment that I never sent, was recovered ~60times, consuming 5.7GB.
I deleted all of those, but the size ~/Library/Mail/xxxaccount folder did not change much.  It is still much larger than the Archive I created.  BTW, this is an IMAP account that was syncing with corporate GMail.

  • I just bought a new Macbook Pro and transferred my iTunes archive of music to it. How do I transfer the playlists from my other computer(s)? iTunes on the new machine wants to start from scratch.

How do I transfer playlists from my other Apple computer(s) to my new Macbook Pro? I think I have successfully moved the music (archive) but the new machine wants to start from scratch on the playlists.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751
Essentially you need to copy over the itunes folder
    username/Music/itunes
Over to your macbookpro I suggest using an ethernet cable as it is way quicker. Put it in the same spot on the new Macbook Pro
    username/music/
This should bring over the playlists etc. Then just put the music back in from the archive

  • Most of my music is not in iTunes!   How do I get it back?

    10June2013
I uploaded many music CDs years ago.  I kept servaal ipods full of music.
I noticed recently that almost all my music is missing from the Itunes music library.
I update Itunes Match several times a week, I hope to God that my music in in the ICloud.
However, I want my music in my hard drive.  I also want it in the cloud, but I want my music files on my hard drive.
I have several back ups of my computer that should have most of the music and I can get the rest (the newer CDs) from the cloud (I hope).
What is the best way to get my music back into my Itunes music library using a back up (time machine or carbon copy) or from the cloud.
I have several of my favorite bands gone from my itunes libary and not on my ipods.   It took a very long time to down load one music band from the icloud.  It wil take weeks to download all my music from the cloud.
It took weeks to load all my CDs onto itunes back in 2005.  I don't want to do that again!   Do any one have a suggestion?

I am finding every single hard drive that has a itunes library on it.  I am only moving the music folders inside the itunes folder to the new WDhd.  After the music folder is on the WDhd, I add what disk it came from. COPY media files (MP3, M4A, etc) whilst noting where they came from
Do I make a big music folder on WDhd, called "BIG MUSIC Archive" and dump the content of each of the downloaded music folders into the BIG MUSIC Archive? That is what I had/have set up
Won't there be a problem wiht folder (artists and albums) deleting each other where the last music folder wins? No because you copy them to separate folders/directories initially.
This is were I am now.
Later, Step 2,  turn on my usual Itunes and do the Library -> Consolidate     ?
THis will absorbe the BIG MUSIC Archive on teh WDhd drive.   I wil call my current libary on my current itunes external drive  ORIGINAL MUSIC
Maybe before STEP 2, I should get rid of all the dead files (a title but no song) that I mentioned before. Dead files can help you track what you cannot find
I can then use the resutling  ORIGINAL music folder as the new BIG MUSIC folder on my dedicated WDhd Arcihve hard drive. YES OR Allow iTunes to copy to the iTunes folder (Preferences->Advanced Tab.  I never do/did this as my PC Hard Drive partition/Macbook Air does not have the storage space.
Is that a good paraphrase of what you told me to do?  If not, please give me simple instructions.

  • My iTunes library is not appearing in the main window, only the iCloud stuff.  How can I get my full library to appear again?

I just opened up iTunes and my full music and film library was not visible.  Only files that have a cloud icon next to them show up.  How do I get full music and film access back again?
I never use iCloud and don;'t believe I ever set it up to operate on my system.

    Hello Stormjib,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning iTunes Library issues. Your iTunes media folder may have been move or modified, which would explain why you can only see media in the cloud:

  • Full automatic Itunes synchronization impossible for a brand new Ipod touch 5th generation

    Hey all,
I bought a brand new Ipod Touch 5th generation which won't synchronize my whole music library through Itunes (very latest version of the app).
The ipod runs IOS8 and the mac mini runs Yosemite latest version.
I already had issue synchronizing music the very 1st day I had the Ipod touch. As a result, went back to the Apple store for changing it for another device, thinking the Ipod was faulty, which Apple accepted and changed my device for a brand new one.
Since then, still unable to synchronize the full music library through itunes. I performed several full resets both on the mac mini and of the Ipod touch with no success. The synchronization seems to run fully normally with no warning pop up saying it failed or whatsoever and the sync process is very very long. But once done, my Ipod remains empty with no data at all.
The weird thing is that Photos are fully synchronized with no issue at all.
I contacted the Apple assistance who argued that my music library might be faulty and have corrupted files in it. So I cleaned it up, suppressing some files I had in double etc.
BUT still, no success, I had to go through the entire library to sync manually, but even then, I was able to have on the device, only half of the library, i.e. around 25 go. once the ipod display 25 to 30 gb remaining, it won't sync no more files.
Although I cleaned up the entire library and reset both devices hundreds of times, I have no clue why even manually, I'm completely unable to have my whole library automatically sync.
I spent hours on the phone with Apple assistance to get some help with no success so far. I even re-installed Itunes completely, still without any result at all.
I was only able to upload on the Ipod only half of the music library, and there are still 25 to 30 GB space remaining on the ipod and 20GB of music to be uploaded.
The automatic sync process always fails any time I try to run it, except for the photos, books etc.
I must say I also have an 160 GB Ipod classic with which I never had any problem so far, and which fully sync my whole library with no issue at all.
I read on the internet that some other users of IOS8 are accountering the same issue with itunes.
COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP, I'M DESPERATE, given the price of the Ipod I really do regret I bought something that does not work properly. Quite disappointed

Yes the system just keep sync as everything is normal, but then no song is actually uploaded to the ipod.
And the remaining space bar shows the ipod's empty.
the automated process will just keep sync as if normal and the last step saying 'applying the modifications" just keep going on and never ends.
I was only able to upload manually half of the albums, all songs comes from different sources; ripped from CD for great part, but also downloaded from the internet from trusted websites.
All songs play normally through Itunes on the Mac Mini.
But then when trying to sync the whole library automatically, nothing happens and I only get tags of the different albums, as if there, but actually it won't play none and the Ipod player just keep skipping as if no musical data is there.
