In the past week or so, whenever I try to save an image off of facebook or Google now, the picture is very bad quality, blurry, and small.
All of my friends have this problem too.
If anyone could help this would be great

  • Original (Full Quality) Bug - Lores Images Being Offered For Download

I just discovered today that iWeb uses 800x600 images for download even though Original (Full Quality) is selected for the album and a 1200x1600 version of the file is available.
I got around this by selecting Large (Higher Quality). This actually offers the 1200x1600 images I had intended.
I wonder what will happen, however, if I start offering even larger images. What is the highest res that the Large setting allows? And has anyone figured out a different way around this Original bug? Obviously, iWeb doesn't think Original (Full Quality) means what I think it means... :/

If you want to offer the very large images for downloading you can do it this way:
1 - put zipped copies of the photos on the server.
2 - add a small thumbnail sized version on the page and add a text base hyperlink, i.e. "Click to download", below it and set it to point to an external page.
3 - for the external page URL use the URL to the zipped file. If you're using MobileMe you can put the zipped file into the Pictures folder and the URL to use would be:
    http://homepage.mac.com/yourMMe_Account_name/.Pictures/filename.zip"
When the visitor clicks on the download hyperlink it will automatically download. No loading into the browser window necessary.
The page would load quickly and if you made any changes to the page the large image files would not have to be republished along with the page.
Of course this will not work with a photo page. You'd have to add the thumbnails to a blank or other type of page.

  • I'm looking for a high quality image of the flower in the iPhone 5 the website.

There is a flower that is used in the apple website, for the iPhone 5. It is purple and yellow. I've been looking all over the web for it but cannot find an image of it that doesn't have a glare on it. I guess it is owned by apple, but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a high quality image of it. Unfortunately it is not included with the iPhone 5.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
I see on photo to movie spec page that you can export in full 1920 X 1080 H.264 codec, a high quality format usable in FCE.

  • Video freezes when exporting to Full Quality

[Background: I've been working on a video project in iMovie HD that I'm doing in pieces - exporting each section of the video at full quality when it's done, so that later I can put them all together in a new project.]
Lately I've been having major problems exporting to full quality Quicktime files. The exported video freezes a few frames in, though the audio continues to play normally. This does not happen if I save it to a smaller quality, say, Web Streaming.
I'm having trouble seeing a pattern in how/why/when this happens, too. I have successfully exported movies to full quality both before and after movies that export incorrectly. The first project that had this happen, I decided to reassemble bit by bit to find out if something specific was causing the problem. Turns out that Full Quality exporting started having this problem if I had added titles. After jumping through something like 50 hoops - exporting little pieces, reimporting, exporting just the titles, etc., etc - I managed to work around the issue. Bit of a headache but all seemed to be well.
BUT, the frozen video problem soon happened again. The next time I had this trouble exporting, there were no titles in the project at all, and the problem instead occurred once I added music. So there does not seem to be a pattern within iMovie itself. This makes me think it's either a Quicktime problem or something to do with my computer itself. I have 2GB of memory, 37GB of space left on my hard drive, and I'm running Quicktime 7.4.1 and iMovie HD 6.0.4.
Please help! I'm on a bit of a deadline, too. This is driving me crazy!

Thanks Matt. I am in the same boat as many people have obviously been in - trying to burn a DVD to a film fest deadline of tomorrow, and after 4 hours of trying to make a disk image, getting 'error during burn'.
    I have one question.
    a) In imovie, I clicked the 'create iDVD' button to create this project - which has problems burning.
    b) Now if I simply try to drag that .mov file into the iDVD pane as you suggest, is that identical to what I have done in a) - in that we're operating with the same basic animal. Of so
    c) I should try the process of exporting to .dv, reimporting to new imovie, redoing chapter markers and THEN dragging the package .mov to the iDVD pane - hoping that chapter markers are preserved.
Oh ... someone said one should try to save the .mov as a sel contained file. is that necessary?
Thank you for sitting in front of you Mac!

  • Generating full-size image from thumbnail using BLOB DB images

    Hi all,
Assuming that all necessary steps were taken in other posts and tutorials to display images on a web page from BLOB objects stored in an Oracle 10g DB, how is it possible to set the size of the created images (from the servlet that creates the image file from BLOB) so that it is smaller than the actual image in the DB. the user would then have to click the image to open the full image.
would this be done by possibly creating 2 servlets, one that displays a smaller version, and one that displays the actual image?
i don't see how this can be done since the url property of each image is bound to the url of the servlet. If the thumbnail has a url pointing to image produced by thumbnail servlet, would i assign an action handler for clicking the image that redirects to a url given by the full size image servlet? or should i use an image hyperlink instead?
    any help is always appreciated!

Suggest you take this one step at a time.
    1. Create a database and store your images in it. (Or write the upload mechanism if you need it).
    2. Display your full size images.
    3. Display your full size images as thumbnail size. (Performance will not be good but you'll have results.) Creator allows you to set image size independantly of the size of the underlying image.
    4. Modify the servlet you wrote in step three to optionally reduce the resolution (or quality) based on an input parameter.

  • How to automatically swap R,G,B channels on a folder full of images

How to automate a Harris Shutter like effect to quickly apply to a few hundred images? Essentially for each finished image, I want to take the R, G, B channels from three different images. I want to do this with a folder full of images. From image #1, use the Red Channel, from image #2, use the Green Channel, from image #3, the Blue Channel. Then repeat that for all the images. Each pulling the channels from the subequent images. Any suggesions on how to automate this? Here is a tutorial I wrote up on how to do it to a single image. http://art3150.blogspot.com/2010/09/weekend-homework.html
Another way to think of it would be like all the Red channels are original, but the Green channels would be from an image one ahead in the sequence and all the Blue channels would be from an image two ahead in the sequence. The channels would be slightly out of sync with one another.

    Something like this....
    JPGs have been assumed.

  • Poor quality images on Slideshow

    Hello all,
I recently downloaded Aperture from the Mac App store - seemed to good a bargain not to and I was already considering upgrading from iPhoto 08.
I imported all my pictures (along with the captions) into Aperture and created a slideshow from an album. I was quite disappointed to see that the image quality was really poor and very grainy. The photos themselves were fine in the album - but not so in the slideshow.
I thought this may have been down to importing from iPhoto, so I experimented by adding other images directly into Aperture. The same slideshow quality issue arose. I also possess a MacBook Pro and decided to re-perform the steps described above. The images and slideshow are absolutely fine on my MacBook pro.
I wish to maintain my photo library on my main iMac and will be very downhearted if Aperture cannot give me the same picture quality on slideshows that I achieved in iPhoto. Can anyone help me figure out why I'm suffering from poor quality images in slideshows on my iMac?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

    Hi Simon,
Aperture uses the image Preview in Slideshows:
_About Displaying Sharp Images in Slideshows_
To display slideshows at the best quality, you should set Aperture to create high-resolution previews. In addition to setting previews to their highest resolution, you should also use full-size previews to prevent upscaling with large displays. If previews are not available, images in the slideshow may not be as sharp as they would be otherwise. For more information about creating high-resolution previews, see Working with Preview Images.

  • Viewing full res. images on iPhone

I just switched back to the Apple camp by moving from the Samsung S4 to the new iPhone 6.
I'm having a minor annoyance with iTunes automatically resizing my full resolution images before uploading it into the phone. Is there any photo viewing app that will hold onto the full resolution preferably with the image filename and metadata intact like the default photo viewer on Android?
Photos show incredible detail on the S4 but 'mehhh' on the iPhone 6 due to the auto-resize to 2302x1536 for a 3x2 aspect ratio image.

You may want to create a Facebook account, Flickr account, or any other photo account that there is an App for on the iPhone.
This may allow you to then upload your photos to their servers. View it on the App at a much higher quality.
Again not totally sure on this. But it might be something you can try out. Maybe our fellow posters have other suggestions.

  • IWeb 08 and Photo Download Size not sticking to Original (Full Quality)

I am using iWeb 08 to post personal webpages and photo galleries but even when I select *"Original (Full Quality)"* under Photo Download Size in the inspector it slips off full size and make smaller pictures. I almost always want to offer full resolution image to my friends and family. Is there a way to make this work more reliably? Is it being fixed?

I found in this iWeb test pertained more to the image pixel dimensions than the jpg compression level of the downloadable file as you found out.
    Happy New Year
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Questions about exporting to full quality?

    Hey there -
I just wanted to make sure that if I want to give my friend back a DV file from the converted tape that I choose Export, then Full Quality? I know that creates one file vs individual clips but her tape was one long one, I did chapter markers for the dvd and make splits but I don't think she wants those (some are arbitrary, e.g. the tape was long than an hour so iMovie HD split it into two clips). So, I just want to be sure that that's the right choice for exporting?
And, on that, does that remove transitions or keep them?
Lastly, there is a weird screen in QuickTime in the resulting file. It's a colorblock screen of sorts - a whole punch of pixels (big TV ones, not sure what they are called) in a bunch of colors. It's happening RIGHT at the end of the footage - not thrilled about it but it is the DV file, I guess. Depending on answer to above, I may at least extend the end transition so it doesn't make future editing difficult. Any way to eliminate it from happening?
    Thanks for your help -
    Alexa

+You should be able to move the cursor frame-by-frame with the arrow keys to get to the precise 'cut' point.+
I know - it's strange but I lost a few seconds of just black screen at the end - I even went back and checked against the actual movie. At any rate, I'm slicing them off carefully and now am adding just a few seconds of still time at the end so it's not an issue.
+What exactly is it that your friends want to do with the digitized footage? I recommend that you make them a DVD of the edited movie, and then export the movie back to the camcorder so they also have a digital mini DV tape of it. This way, they can view the DVD to see their movie and show to others, but they also have a backup on tape.+
Ah, let's see - somehow I've agreed to convert a bag full of VHSC and VHS tapes (and hours and hours of my life for footage that's not even my family!) At any rate, I am giving them the deluxe end product - a customized movie with smoother transitions and chapters, a customized DVD menu with images and chapters (and music, if it fits) and a customized case and printed DVD (Taiyo Yuden printed Watershield DVD). Yes, the works. So, then I told them to buy a external HDD and I would move the resulting DV files to it so they would have them should the ever want to use the footage again (e.g. make an "anniversary" montage that pulls in just clips from their wedding, or a wedding montage for their kids that includes the baby footage that I digitized.) So, they have the VHSC and VHS originals, they'll have the movie on DVD and they were going to have the DV files on a hard drive of the appropriate size. That was my recommendation since the problem was that the tapes sat around in the first place - they aren't going to convert them without help. But, if that's the "best" option for longer-lasting backup, I can offer it to them.
+If this were for your use, I would recommend that you also create a disk image of the iDVD project as backup. ...Because the disk image file is self-contained, you can safely delete the iMovie and iDVD projects without losing the ability to burn DVDs of the iDVD project that is now saved as the disk image. You use Disk Utility (or Toast if you have it) to burn the actual DVD disk.+
That is the best advice I could have received! I hadn't really figured out what I was going to do with the actual iMovie and iDVD projects after I was finished. I was reluctant to delete b/c - ahem - they've come back to me after 2 months of the last project and asked for another copy!!! But, I've already added one external for this, I can't house their memories in various forms forever. So, if I do the disk image, I'll retain the ability to make the disk - that's exactly what I need. I've already been caught once by the dreaded "you've updated the move file" bug once, simply because I had opened the original iMovie project - and I had to build the whole DVD again (and it had 24 chapters!)
Thanks so much for the counsel on the disk image - I had heard about it but just wasn't sure how I should directly apply it to these projects.
    Appreciate it!

  • Overlap transitions choppy after exporting 'Full Quality' QuickTime

I have a movie created with images and music, no video. I used the overlap transition between each image. All images have a slight Ken Burns effect. Then I exported to Full Quality Quicktime to bring into iDVD. I originally tried to export right to iDVD and the resolution was horrible but the transition were fine. Now I have great resolution but the transition is choppy. It's almost like the frames per second dropped during the transition. Don't know what to do to fix it.

I have solved ALL my issues!! At least with this project. I had 3 issues with this project: low res on final output, flickering in the images while using Ken Burns effect and not so smooth transition issues.
I changed my video format to HDV 1080i. I was able to use my lower res untouched images (before I put a .6 Gaussian blur effect on the images to reduce the amount of flickering and saved them as high res TIFFs). I did have to change to widescreen format, but I think my client will see that as a cool factor. I'm so happy I could cry!!! It took me a week to get it figured out, but I learned A LOT about iMovie during that time. Now I have a bunch of project ideas flying through my head. I'm going to enjoy my happy moment for a little while. I still do not know why iMovie was doing the weird transition thing in the iSight format. I think I'll stick with the HDV.
    Thanks for the help!

  • How to export full quality in photos

In iPhoto you used to be able to export a modified picture in 'current' quality, which was full quality as shown in iPhoto.
Now in the new photos app this option is gone (only allowing to export original image in full quality). The best now seems to be exporting the jpeg at maximum quality which it's compressing the image from what is seen in photos app.
Does anyone know how to get around this...incredibly annoying as I want to edit images in photos, then export out that full quality to share or print or whatever.

You misunderstand what 'quality' means in this context. Quality is about the amount of compression applied to the image when the Jpeg is created. Is had very little to do with the quality of the photo. A well exposed image will print pretty much the same from a 1, 2 or 5mb image, especially from a  domestic printer. You might see artefacts on a very high quality printer, but it's really not that mooch different.
Jpeg quality really comes into play if you use a lossless editor after exporting. This is in the nature of the Jpeg format. It's not an image format at all, it's a compression format attuned to images. Essentially its a special kind of zip file. When you open a Jpeg it's decompressed, so that 5mb Jpeg could contain a file that uses 50mb of RAM.
However, if you edit the image, then the file is recompressed and that means that some data is thrown away. In theory, edit a Jpeg enough times and you'll have an empty file. To overcome this, when you edit in apps like iPhoto/Photos the original file is not touched. The edit decisions are recorded in the db and only committed to the file when exported.
Exporting create a new file, containing the same photograph. But the quality of the file - which is the amount of compression applied - can be selected. If you found that the Preview in iPhoto always matched the reported size of the original then either a: that was a fluke or b: the image wasn't edited.
Medium gives about the same quality as the Preview, that's all.
The best quality to export at depends on the next use the file gets: if it's going to editing further, then high. Other than that it doesn't make a huge amount of difference.

  • Web gallery full size images blurry on .mac

My photos look great in iPhoto. But when I have iPhoto create a web gallery and sync it to .mac the full size images are quite blurry. The thumbs are fine, but the full size images look over compressed. I can't find a place to fool with image quality for these images. Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Buddy

    Buddy:
I found that the full sized images that I synced to a web gallery in iPhoto were jpg compressed to a quality level of 9 out of 12 (as determined thru Photoshop). I do not notice any obvious degradation of image quality. At 200% enlargement I did notice some unsharpness. My files are compressed down from around 2 MB TO 840KB.
    Do you Twango?

  • Full Quality Export looks Poor

    hi everyone,
i have a question because I am trying to do a full quality export for my compositor and color corrector.
the "export quicktime" - make movie contained option seems to create a movie that appears grainy and the fonts created on livetype are very blurry.
can finalcut export a full quality picture? or is exporting to tape the best option?
or is the problem from the import? I shot my footage on a panasonic dvx100A (25p PAL) and imported as a DV PAL. Should I have chosen another option?
    appreciate any advice! thanks!

    #2 Playback is blurry
    Shane's Stock Answer #2:
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24787
DV footage requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section
