Full reception bar and 3G icon but never any internet!!!!!

Wondering if anyone can help? I'm based in London and have the Iphone 3GS with Orange.
I have had the phone for a good 10 months but have had the same problem continuously throughout. I can can barely ever get any internet connection. I can have full reception and the 3G icon showing but it normally takes several attempts to even get google up. Most apps that require internet don't work. I can usually get some connection but it will take about 5 minutes of persistent trying to get onto a basic web page.
I know it's not a hardware fault because this is my second phone on the tariff and the problem remains. I took it into an Orange shop once and they thought it could be my settings but were very unhelpful.
Does anyone else get the same problem and know what causes it or how it can be solved? It happens wherever I go and so is not just a London problem.

Exactly the same here, in London, with Three. The problem started yesterday morning.
Three unhelpful.
Tried the whole 9 yards (double-checked APN, airplane mode, reset, hard reset, full restore, etc.).
Any help?

Double click on the picture of the HD on your desktop, then look at the bottom of the window that opens.
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > in the panel at left, select the first item in the list/your HD mechanism > look atthe bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T.status is "Verified," run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.

I downloaded Lightroom and installed it,but never activated it before my computer crashed. I now have a new computer and wish to install it on that windows machine.

Okay, got my phone back from the store I originally bought it at (the Swedish equivalent to Best Buy), and they had tried charging it with an iPhone-charger with no results. However, when they tested with an off-brand charger, it started working again. I wonder why that is.
When I got home, it was on 98% and I plugged it in with my regular charger just to see if I would really need to go out of my way to buy a completely different charger. It charged up to 99%, and I then unplugged it. I will wait and see if the problem re-occurs, but as it looks now, I probably won't be needing to get the battery changed nor book an appointment with the Genius Bar I'll check in here again if that were to happen, to give my review of the Genius Bar!

Desktop suddenly darkens and menu bar and desktop icons disappear

Hi guys,
Some times (not very often) suddenly the desktop darkens, and the menu bar and the disktop icons disappear, while the dock remains. I have to click in order to return!
What causes this thing?
P.S. Before awhile, that this happened again, I looked at the console and saw these two events:
1)**** [IOBluetoothHostControllerUSBTransport][SuspendDevice] -- Suspend -- suspendDeviceCallResult = 0x0000 (kIOReturnSuccess) -- 0x3000 ****
2)setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored.
But I cannot specify the exact time it happened, in order to see if any of those two messages are related.

Thank you Niel!! Re the problem with the display being too big to fit the screen. I had exactly the same problem as geraintfromswansea and was completely stymied. Never even thought of Universal Access being at fault. Must have hit the keyboard command somehow to turn on magnification. Fixed now thanks to you.

Missing task bar and screen icons/Windows 7

My pc boots up fine but after it's finished, I only have a backround screen, no task bar and no screen icons. Is there a fix for this?

Try this:
Right-click the desktop.
Select View > Show desktop icons (if it doesn't have a check mark next to them, your icons don't display).
Move your cursor to the very bottom of the desktop and see if the taskbar doesn't pop up into view. If so, right click it.
Click Properties.
Clear the Auto-hide the taskbar check box.

All type in my menu bar and under icons has disappeared how do I get it back?

I lost all type in my menu bar and in drop down menus as well as under icons and next to icons in the hard drive menu. The dashboard also doesn't pop up when the curser goes over it. How do I get the type back?

Do any fonts work or show up at all in any application?
Have you installed any new Fonts or Adobe/MS Apps?
See if you can run Font Book in Applications, verify Fonts & check for duplicates.

CS2 pages flyout-missing scroll bar and other icons

I'm missing the scroll bars, trash, and other icons on the pages flyout window. I have reset to default workspace, restarted the program, and the computer and "saved as" and I can't seem to get them back. I'm guessing I hit a key and messed it up. Help!

Four bars and (E)DGE but no network?

A frequently traveled urban road I use I have 4-5 bars and (E) but no data connectivity for several miles.
Is the network indication just not precise when it indicates signal strength and EDGE access, or could I possibly need something fixed on the phone?

Try doing a reset, which is done by pressing and holding the Home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. A reset does not affect any data or settings.

I keep getting a download update and it runs but never connects to the server. What do I do to correct this problem?

Firefox won't update. I keep getting a download request and it tries to connect to the server but it just keeps on running and never downloads any thing.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

I need a copy of the tech report from the genius bar for my insurance but never received one. Can I get a copy?

As it says in the title, my 8 month old (reconditioned) 4S needed replaced. I took it to the genius bar but they didn't give me a report only sold me a replacement. I need a copy of the report for my insurance company. Can I get a copy via my apple ID? Help appreciated!

You'll have to either call AppleCare...they'll have a record, or go back to the Genius bar where your phone was replaced.
