FULL RECOMMENDED BACKUP METHOD

I did the following:
Logged out of both Skype accounts, quit both, and checked no Skype process running.
Copied everything from C:\Users\[my name]\AppData\Roaming\Skype to my external drive, including the main.db files for both accounts.
Uninstalled Skype.
Installed SkypeSetupFull.exe (not SkypeSetup.exe) from Download.com.
Copied everything back from my external drive to C:\Users\[my name]\AppData\Roaming\Skype, including the main.db files for both accounts.
Logged into both accounts again.
Is this all data?
Is it the optimal backup method?
Favorites doesn't have any contacts now.
I did have custom lists for contacts, but haven't now.
I don't see any call history or have anything under Recent Conversations.
Options are their defaults.
My unused credit isn't displayed top left next to my name, though it is in My Account.
This is the case for both accounts.
I installed Database Browser & DB Browser for SQLite, but wasn't technically-minded enough to know how to use them.
I've come across software that may help in future, but I thought Skype might have been designed to make the job easier than this.
I'd be really pleased if anyone could help. Replies to this might answer many other people's backup questions too.
Andrew.

56 views and no solution?! I'm amazed that Skype doesn't have Backup & Restore in the Options, or even tell us the optimal backup method.
Do moderators not even know the answer?

  • Recommendations for OneDrive Backup Methods

So my company just switched over to Office365, and so far things are pretty good. I'm looking to utilize the OneDrive features as a replacement for our individual user drives, currently housed on our server. My issue is this:
    1. Microsoft doesn't recommend using OneDrive as a backup method, therefore I will need to back these drives separately from OneDrive.
    2. According to Microsoft's site, it's not supported or recommended to change the location of OneDrive, so it's forever on the local drive of the user's computer.
With these issues taken in to account. How am I supposed to backup OneDrive if every drive is on that individual user's computer? It's an administrative nightmare to manually point everything to a server location for easier backup access since users have
different schedules and some will shut their computers down at night (when a backup would take place) while others don't.
So, for anyone who has done this already, how do you manage the backups?
    Thanks!

  • Full OS backup and restoration

I have a Win 2012 R2 server installed on a Dell PE730 box. The box is highly critical and there are lot of configurations in that server that I want to create a full backup and incase of failure of the box, the backup should be useful to restore the box
    with all configurations.
I don't use any third party tools for backup - use Windows backup role in Win 2012, also plans to use the Windows feature itself to restore also.
What is the best method of creating a backup and restore plan. Pls suggest

    Hi,
You can use a full server backup to perform all types of recoveries, including system state and bare metal recoveries. We recommend this option. Then you could recover your server operating system or full server by using Windows Recovery Environment.

  • Backup schedule will not use faster backup method

    Hello,
I am currently using Windows Server Backup in Windows Server 2008 R2 to make a copy of our Exchange server. When I initially set the schedule it was configured to use the normal backup method, but after noticing that it was taking an exceedingly long time
I went into the Performance settings and selected the Faster backup option.
The faster method works great if I use the Backup Once option, but for some reason the scheduled backups still try to run the normal, non-incremental backup. I can't find where to change this in the schedule.
**I know that the first time you run the faster backup it needs to make the full backup. It has done this(it takes about 3 days) and every time I have run it since using the Backup Once option it has worked fine(takes about 1 hour). Once again, the issue
is that the schedule will not use the faster option and tries to use the normal backup every time.
    Thank you

I am backing up to a network location. When I use the Backup Once option and assign it to use a network location it is able to do the Faster backup. It doesn't make sense that the faster backup works when I do it manually but doesn't work when if it is
initiated by the schedule. They are both going over the network.

  • ICloud full OS backup and TimeMachine

I normally backup with an external WD HD for Mac.  Twice now have I bought two disks that went corrupt and I couldn't restore my backups.
Is there an iCloud or any other Cloud solution that provides a FULL OS backup (including Applications -- since sites lick Backblaze don't offer Application and App settings backups)?  If so can any of them be integrated with TimeMachine?

I have tried all of the recommended troubleshooting methods but none of them seem to work. This issue began despite no change being made to Firefox, or my computer; it just spontaneously stopped responding after launch.
Not only does Firefox stop responding, but it also prevents any other programs from being launched, and make already launched programs extremely slow. Furthermore, once it stops responding, it becomes impossible to get rid of; the only way is to log off, or restart the computer entirely.

    Hi,
The Archive log's has occupied full Hard Disk space so i changed the status of DB to NoArchive Log mode and deleted all the archive files available at "/u02/app/oracle/oradata/orcl/archive" using OS command.
Now I changed the DB to Archive Log Mode and now using RMAN to delete All Archive files which are backed up.
    backup incremental level 0 cumulative device type disk tag '%TAG' database include current controlfile;
    backup device type disk tag '%TAG' archivelog all not backed up delete all input;

  • How do I retrieve bookmarks and passwords from a Windows backup, after OS re-install?I have a full Windows backup of my machine, pre re-installl

I had to reinstall Vista 7 OS. I have a full Windows backup of my machine, prior to the re-installation. How do I retrieve the bookmarks and passwords from the backup? I understand they're stored in various files a ".default" folder in C:\users\username\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox\profiles. When I try restoring the folder, the files get skipped... When I try browsing for the individual files, I don't see them!

Many thanks for your responses... After a little scouting on the web, I have found THE solution... This is all due to the way Windows 7 Backup works, and will NOT let restore apps...
("File restore in Windows7 is not designed to restore back applications. This is because the application state is spread across potentially multiple folders, files & registry. Windows7 file backup is not aware of where all the state is spread to be able to restore the entire application accurately as such information is internal to the application. Restoring application partially might corrupt the application and render the application unusable. So we do not allow restoring applications from file backup.
In case files under C:\Program Files etc. are chosen for restoring, we block restoring files from backup to such locations as it might cause the applications to not function.'')
What one has to do when restoring is to NOT attempt to restore to the original location, but to select the radio button which allows you to type a path where you want the files restored and type in the path of the original location!!! Then select copy and replace...A little quirky (and tedious), but it works!

  • Backup method in Noarchive mode

    Hi All,
I have one question regarding backup methods. I have my all database in Oracle11gR2 in Noarchive mode. I want to define some backup method but no idea which one is preferable in noarchive mode. Cold backup is again not possible. can I take tablespace/datafile backup ? Is there any other option which I can perform in Noarchive mode or temporarily put the database in Archive and perform the backup?
    Please guide me.
    Thanks...

    Hi All,
First of all thanks for your reply and suggestions. I have not lost the interest but reading and thinking on all your suggestion.
About expdp yes I think this is the only option I was thinking before post a question here. but as we know this is should not consider as a backup.
For Archive mode - this is R&D database and we have disk space issue if we can not put database in Archive mode.
For COld backup - again not possible because single database uses in different time zone so DB should be up and running almost all the time.I think the operative word there is "almost". How big is the database? How long does it take to shut it down, back it up, and bring it back up? Unless the database is really big (why would an r&d database be really big, unless r&d was specific to VLDB) you should be able to do the job during the guy's lunch break. Even for an r&d database, you might be able to justify noarchivelog, but you will really feel the pain if you get a physically corrupted database and all you have is an export.
    >
The only one option which I am not aware is what about John speicified. John can you please suggest or forward me some link with some backup example for more details. this is really helpful to me. From your suggested link I understand this is possible but after put the database in suspend mode how do I copy the Tablespace/datafiles - just simple Linux cp command or some other options also?

  • Can I force a full system backup somehow ?

Bootcamp has made a mess of my HD and I'd rather not rely on existing backups but have plenty of space and could do a full disc backup as insurance.
I can then restore from TM in theory and solve the partition problems caused by BC.
But how do I get it to do a complete fresh 'clone' of my hard disc ?

Try SuperDuper or Carbon Copy. It's designed for this kind of job.

  • Full disk backup size is 2x what Finder says I have *in total*...why?

So, I admit it, I'm a Unix guy - it's one of the reasons OS X appealed to me in the first place. When I went to test my new external 320gb FireWire drive, I thought I'd make a full backup of my MacBookPro (10.4.11) using the tool I know best....tar. I mounted the drive and then did the backup from the command line:
    cd /
    sudo tar cvjf /Volumes/BigPartition/Save_All.tbz .
Hey, not pretty, but it worked. Except the backup tar file was 15GB - which was really odd since it's being compressed with Bzip and Finder says I'm using only 14GB _in total_ on my disk, and I'd expect a compressed backup to be much smaller - maybe 7GB. So it was 2x bigger than I thought it would be.
So I did it again, but this time without compression in case that was the problem (compressing already compressed data, etc). And it took up 31GB. So I'm REALLY confused here:
    1) Am I using a whole lot more (17GB more!) disk than the Finder claims I am? OR
    2) Is my 'tar' command saving files that don't really exist (like copies of virtual memory, etc.) that make it save 2x-3x as the actual data size would save as? OR
    3) Is there some other explanation I'm not getting on this?
If #2, what's a tar command I could use to save the "real" system and data, but nothing else? Meaning, which directories/files do I need to exclude to save just the system and data I need to do a full restore, but no more?
Finally, besides the Backup app included with the OS, is there another tool/script I should be using to do a full system backup to my external drive?
    thanks....and please scale the technical level of your answer to someone who programs in assembly language for fun. :}

You definitely need a backup program with a GUI for MacOSX. That's because of the bad news: MacOSX is not Unix. Open Darwin! Right...Apple, to my knowledge, never modified tar, cpio, dump, pax, ..., everything but 'ditto' for its augmented file system, with aliases, meta-data, 16-bit unicode fonts, resource forks, &c. All but 'ditto' will backup only Unix data in Unix files.
'Ditto' will archive HFS+ files, and can even strip architectures not needed from 'fat binaries', and use the BOM (bill of materials) to copy applications. What it does with aliases is unknown to me, but I believe it follows both soft & hard links to their sources (as tar does, I think), overwriting these if you try and restore from it. So, 'ditto' was clearly touched-up by Apple solely for creating archives, not backups.
I should examine the standard archives, like VersionTracker, for freeware from 'sourceforge'. I've never found an adequate backup applications; but I stopped looking some time ago. I just drag from Finder windows to archive, burning DVDs with 'Disk Utility'. That should work.
Note something really cute, however: a genuine tape backup released some years ago. The little mini-cartridges that fit in a digital VCR hold 20 to 30 GB! This little application was a real 'tar', sells for about $40, writes files twice, has various levels of compression, can follow aliases & links or not, and can be found on VersionTracker. After experience with quarter-inch cartridges, which were a nightmare, I distrust any tape drive that sells for less than $3000. But I've never had a VCR not playback! It's worth a look; and, what the ****, it's romantic.

  • SAP Full Offline Backup Problem

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to SAP.
I was attempting an Full Offline Backup through the DB13 transaction.
SAP is installed in a RHEL Cluster with Oracle DB 10gR2.
Because of Cluster Operation the Full Offline Backup is not performed successfully because when Oracle DB is shutdown during backup in the first node, the cluster automatically raises the service in the 2nd node and after copying files when the DB is tried to start on the first node it raises an error.
Is there a manner to notify also the other cluster nodes about the Full Offline backup in order not to start the DB and to perform the backup successfully.
    Drini

No I want to schedule the offline backup to a regular intervals for example once a month
Can this cluster monitoring be scheduled automatically from SAP or can SAP notify Linux Cluster not to treat this as an "Oracle Down" situation but as a mainteinance in order not to start the Oracle to the other cluster node.
    Best Regards,
    Drini
