    Hello AlexBW,
I received your private message and I thank you for writing me back.
One other step that I think may assist us would be to please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Once you have the unit connected directly to a wall outlet, follow the instructions that  I provided in the private message.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • Officejet pro 8500 printer carriage does not go to the left to reset

I have a 4 yr old Oficejet pro 8500 - I want to change the print heads as its not printing color properly.  But I cant move the carraige over to the left.  Not by turning it on or off, or holding the @star 'ok' key.  Is the machine passed its sell by date?

Hi , I see you are trying to remove your printheads and I think I may be able to help.
Here is a document on how to Replace the Printhead for HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer Series (A909) - the key to this, is that the printer needs to be powered on. If it still won't cooperate, you might have to do a hard reset. To do so, leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the back of the printer. While it is unplugged, you can hold down the power button on the printer for about 10-15 seconds to release any built up power. Then plug the printer back in. Retry the steps listed in the document to move the carriage over.  Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks,

  • I have my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A connected to my Mac Book Pro on a Wireless network. It works and

I have my Hp Officejet Pro 8500 A connected to my MAc Book Pro which is running Lion OS on a wireless network.  It works just fine and prints and everything.  The problem is a "HP Utility" window that pops up on my screen and says it is "connecting to device" and lists my printer.  It just runs and runs and the entire thing is gray - meaning I can't close it, cancel it, or anything. When you try to click on it, the arrow becomes the color wheel of death.   It is driving me crazy.  I have gone through settings, I have downloaded the latest drivers, I have looked in utilities, I have opened the printer folder and can't find where this thing is coming from or how to turn it off.  Please help.  And yes I have turned offf the computer and rebooted.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If you want more features, you can download and install the Full Featured software from the "Support & Drivers" button at the top of this page, otherwise, basic printing and scanning will work without it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g - Streak down middle of the page during scanning only

When scanning documents there is a black streak down the middle of the page.  I have already followed the help instruction to clean the glass, rollers, etc...  I have turned off the computer and the copier & then restarted.  I'm still having the same problem???

Welcome to the HP Forums Bjoyful,
I read your post, which indicates that you are getting a black streak down the middle of the page when scanning.
I can help you with this.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation. When scanning with a surge protector, it can cause the vertical lines.
Just to make sure this is the document you followed to clean the glass and rollers, I have included it.
Vertical Bands, Streaks, or Lines in a Copy, Fax, or Scan.
Update the printer's firmware if you are still having issues. HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - A909g Drivers.
Do you get the black lines scanning from the glass and the ADF?

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless that has stopped being recognized as powered on

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless that has stopped printing.  Troubleshooter identifies that the printer is not powered on, when indeed it actually is powered on.  I have tried unplugging the printer and resetting the network information as well as rebooting my computer all to no avail.  The printer is being recognized by the network without any issues, just for some reason it doesn't think it is powered up.  I very much appreciate and thank you in advance for any information and advice.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @margarethpayne

  • Printer problems with Officejet Pro 8500 A910

    Dear all,
I have been given as a present an Officejet Pro 8500 A910 (serie number CN16LDM020 and product number CM756A). The people whom I have got it from already had some problems with the printer heads. I have accepted the printer, because I want to have it working again. I do encounter some problems however. I hope you kind people on the forum can help me out and get this thing working again. As a side note: I am only interested in using the scanner, printer (only black and white - I do not print in colour) and e-printing (I understand that it is possible to email documents to printer, so that they are printed whilst you are somewhere else).
Upon installation I have conneted the internet to my wi-fi. Upon installation it made some test prints, whereby the black dots were good, but the cyan and other colours were not. When I now turn off the installed printer and switch it on again it takes the printer about 5 - 7 minutes to initialize. On the touch screen of the printer it is said "Checking printer, this might take 5 minutes", "Checking printheads", "Aligning printheads" and alike notifications. After 5 - 7 minutes the printer gives the following notification: " Failure notice. Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details." When I then push the question mark on the touch screen the following notidication is given: " Alignment failed. Check printer quality of the current print job. If it is not satisfactory, try aligning the printer to see if that improves the quality. To align the printhead again, touch (home), touch (arrow right), touch Tools, and then touch Align Printhead." When I follow these instructions, the same thing happens. I have tried the option "Clean printheads" under "Tools". The test prints that come out are again good in black and white and not good in colour.
The ink level of the cartridges is very low for Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. For Black the printer gives a question mark. The expiry date of the cartridges is in 2015. The information on the Self Test Diagnostic Page (you get when you print a report from checking the ink cartridges) gives the following status:
    Printhead status
Printhead health: Good (for both Black/Yellow and Magenta/Cyan)
    Serial: 7735960 (Black/Yellow) and 7744345 (Magenta/Cyan)
    End of warranty: mid-2013
Accumulated ink usage (ml): Black 99/Yellow 71, Magenta 57/Cyan 58
    Refilled supply:
Detected in printhead/printer? For all cartidges "yes".
When I try to print a document from Word on my MacBook (which runs on Mac OS X 10.6.8) and the printer is on stand-by, Word recognizes the printer, starts with the print order but then comes with the notifications "Printer offline" and "Cannot find printer" and postpones the print order. Today I reset the printer and the print job that I had before the reset (which was postponed) came out.
Today, I printed a document whilst the printer was not on stand-by (the touch screen was on home menu) and the print was well (it was only black and white). After the print, the printer also made a print report. Again, the colour was bad, but black ink was good. After that print report, the printer started aligning again. After 5 minutes it gave the above-mentioned failure notice (" Failure notice. Alignment failed. Refer to device documentation for details.").
I would assume that the first thing that I should do is get new cartridges. However, since I only print black and white, can't I just buy the Black Ink and disable the other cartridges? Then, I am thinking of not buying HP cartridges (since the warranty term is already over). What cartridges do you reccomend (price-quality)? If  new cartridges are installed (previous owner had same problems with full cartridges) and the problems (with print heads) are not solved, what should I do?
On a second note, I want to use the option of printing online. In other words, give a print order on my Iphone to the printer so that it starts printing at home. How do I set this up? How can I test this?
I would be very obliged with your feedback on the above.
    Kind regards,
    Onno

    Hey Onno,
I see you have several items listed about your Officejet Pro 8500a (A910 series) printer.  The main issue that stands out is the print quality issue.  I would advise starting here with your printer.
From your information I can see that refill or remanufacture cartridges have been used in this printer at some point.  It is possible that the ink from these cartridges have damaged the internal ink system of the printer.  If you have performed all the troubleshooting steps for the print quality issue you are experiencing, then the next step is going to be replacing the printheads of the unit.
    Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues
The 8500a requires all cartridges be available even if you are simply printing in B&W.  If the cartridges are low, then you will have to replace the cartridges as needed.  Typically by the design of this printer, however, print quality issues do not follow ink levels in the cartridges as ink is piped to the internal printheads, thus even with empty cartridges there is some ink remaining in the system.
The printheads for the 8500a can be found at most HP certified retailers if you decide to attempt replacing them as a step towards resolving the issue.  As to the cartridges, I would advise using genuine HP cartridges as HP ink is designed with HP printers in mind.  For information about refilled/remanufactured cartridges please click here.
Hope this helps in getting the print quality issue alleviated,
    Jason

  • Cyan ink won't print on my officejet pro 8500

Windows 7 64-bit.  But printer does the same thing from my XP computer.
I get no error messages from my printer.  Nothing at all has changed - but the blue has just stopped printing.  no upgrades, new programs, etc.  EVerything is the same as it was yesterday.
I have followed the troubleshooting document, and run thru the first 2 levels of printhead cleaning.  I have no streaks anywhere, just a missing blue, even the the cartridge is 1/2 full.  One day it printed, and the next day it stopped.  Same paper, etc.
I have hard reset the printer, I have hard reset it with the cyan cartridge out, then put it in when I get the error msg that its missing, I've restarted my computer (it does the same thing from my other computer though, so its not the computer).  I have read all the HP maintenance instructions and follow them.
    Suggestions???

What is the model or product number of your printer?  If you have the Officejet Pro 8500 All-In-One A909a, you can take a look at this document, which describes cleaning the printheads.  How long have the ink cartridges been in the printer?  The cartridges should have an expiration date on them.  If they have been in a while, I would replace all of them, then begin troubleshooting.
Please let me know if this helps.
    Good luck!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g - doesn't install on Windows 8

I upgraded my HP computer to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7.The HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g was running fine with Windows 7, but will not install correctly  on Windows 8 Pro. I've tried reinstalling numerous times. Sometimes the installation appears to run correctly.  Sometimes it never finishes. In the best case the 8500 will print, however Solution Center will not show ink levels and will not scan.It shows the message: "The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using the networked HP imaging device. Try again later" and the scanning programming does not start. Sometimes, the scanning program starts without the error, but then another error prevents scanning (don't have that message). Creating a PDF with the scan to network feature from the front panel of the printer creates a pdf file of 0 bytes. When the printer is “installed” and able to print, but Solution Center is not scanning, the Windows scanning does work and the scanner passes the HP Print and Scan Doctor test – sometimes.  Sometimes the HP Print and Scan Doctor reports a registry problem when checking the scanning functions. The HP Error Reporting feature sometimes tries to send an error report to HP. The reporting program hangs at “initializing” and the error report never makes it to HP. I've been installing with OJ_AIO_P8500_A909_Full_Win_WW_140_408.exe. (downloaded twice)After uninstalling, I've used OJP8500vA909_Scrubber_14.exe - running uninstall.bat at least three times -- on some of the passes, the Install Uninstaller stops working.I've tried installing with startup programs disabled and non-Microsoft startup services unchecked in msconfig. The printer would not install using USB cable -- the installation hung (just one try).  All other attempts have been using Wi-Fi.   The printer and Solution Center work fine from other computers on the network - running XP and Windows 7. Any way to this printer working fully under Windows 8 Pro? Thanks

  • I can print to HP Officejet Pro 8500 - A909g but I can't scan. Won't recognize?

I have HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - A909g and a Lenovo T410 lap top.  I can print but my computer doesn't recognize my my 8500 to scan?  I have uninstall and reinstalled the software and still nothing!  I have checked with my wireless network Linksys and everything checks out.  They tell me that the problem is with my HP 8500.  I have hardwired to the printer and it scans okay.  What must I do to wirelessly scan?
    Thank you,  John

I had the same problems as reported in previous posts.  I reinstalled my entire system and upgraded to Windows 7, 64 bit, Ultimate.  Only the priint driver would install from the Full Feature Drivers option at HP Support.
Uninstall/install print driver to no avail.
     Turn printer/router/computer off/on.
Download full feature drivers from HP website. (Only print driver was downloaded.)
HP diagnostic utilities did not discover a problem.
I believe the problem had to do with the drivers accessed via the  HP Support site.  I downloaded from the following location:  http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02073861&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/cc...
Ran the Install Wizard from there and the printer/fax/scan tests.  Passed all.  All drivers are now installed as is the HP Solution Center.
Glad to finally be up and running!!!!

  • Epson Workforce 500 and HP  OfficeJet Pro 8500 - "Printer Offline"

This week I downloaded an Epson printer driver update from Apple's Software Update. I use an Epson Workforce 500 with my Mac Mini computer at my office. Since installing Snow Leopard originally I had experienced no problems with the printer but assumed that if Apple was telling me to install a driver update, I should do so. Big mistake!
After installing the driver update I was unable to print anything. When attempting to print a page from Safari or MIcrosoft Word, everything initially seemed ok, until I saw my printer icon bouncing in the Dock with a yellow symbol indicating "Printer Offline." After searching the Apple site and various discussion boards I spent an entire afternoon attempting all of the recommended fixes with no results. Since I cannot operate my business without a printer, I decided to simply purchase a new printer hoping that this was simply an Epson problem.
I am now the proud owner of an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One. Unfortunately I am still suffering from the "Printer Offline" message whenever I attempt to print anything. After spending another afternoon on the phone with a tech support person from HP, I am still unable to print. I have done all of the following:
Disconnected and reconnected all cables between the computer and the printer.
Switched the USB cable to a different USB port on the computer.
Restarted the computer and the printer.
Unplugged and replugged the computer to reset it.
Checked to confirm that the printer does show up under USB on the System Profiler.
Deleted any old print jobs in the print queue and made certain that the printer was not in pause mode.
Tried to print from various programs with the same result.
Although this printer does appear in the printer list, deleted it and then added it again under the Printer and Fax area of System Preferences.
Uninstalled the HP printer driver, restarted the computer, downloaded HP's latest driver for this computer from their website under the instruction of HP's tech support person and reinstalled this driver and again performing all of the above.
    Repaired disk permissions several times.
Reset the printing system under the Printer and Fax area of System Preferences.
I have been unable to find any further possible fixes in any of the discussion boards either on the Apple or the HP site. After doing everything listed here the HP tech support person felt that the problem must be with Apple rather than HP since the problem developed initially after the Epson printer update and then occurred with both the Epson and the HP printers.
I have an appointment later today with an Apple Genius at my local Apple store to see if I can get any advice. Any suggestions from anyone on this board would be greatly appreciated since I do need my printer to carry on in my business. At this point I am desperate to the point of considering the replacement of my computer but am hesitant to do so suspecting that the new models should be released soon.

Try downloading and installing the 10.6.1 combo update. It's OK to do this even though you are already running 10.6.1. One of the "fixes" .. "some printer compatibility drivers not appearing properly in the add printer browser"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL930
Make sure and repair disk permissions after the installation.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Always make sure your Mac has sufficient disk space available.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
