Full Retail vs 2 year contract?

Which option do you think is most beneficial? Id say if you have the cash, full retail is the best, since you are not locked into a contract. the way phones are being produced its like a phone only remains good for 3 months now a days

I like the discount and two year contract.  I keep my phones at least two years.  Still have my Blackberry Curve 8330 right now, and I don't plan on switching from Verizon.

  • I purchased a Maxx at FULL retail price (out of contract) to keep my unlimited data. An unauthorized/illegal change was made to the plan and all VZW could do was offer me $20 in credit.

    As the title says:
I purchased a Droid Maxx at full retail price (approximately $540) to keep my grandfathered unlimited data. An unauthorized/illegal change was made by my younger sister (who is not an account manager and stole the information from my mom) to the plan and I was not notified within the 14-day closing period to revert the changes. For the record, both my mom and I are account managers, my younger sister is not.
I went in to my account (and changed all the information) and found out that when changes are made to the account online, you have to send an authorization text to one of the phones--however, you can send this authorization to ANY of the phones on the plan, so my sister sent it to hers (instead of an account managers).
So, the only reason I found out about this change to my plan was via a text message telling me I was "approaching max data," which of course should not happen with unlimited data. My younger sister did not tell anyone she made the changes.
When I found out about two (nearly three) weeks ago, I called Verizon to open a ticket about it. They did, said they would call/text me back a few days later--they didn't. One week later I made another phone call to see what the status on that ticket was--the rep said that the other rep was supposed to call me, but didn't, and so he pushed the ticket again. Lo and behold, another week later, still no response from VZW about the ticket. So I called again only to find out that the request to revert the data plan back to unlimited had been denied.
I spoke with that representative for nearly 40 minutes and all she could offer was some unwanted advice about what to do about my sister's behavior or that "I'm so sorry that someone would do that." I told her I wasn't looking for consolation, but for a compromise on either getting my unlimited data back, or refunding the difference between contract and full-retail price of the phone. I threatened to leave VZW because of this and all she could offer was a measly $20 credit.
I have filed a BBB complaint against Verizon Wireless for this issue as an illegal change that goes unnoticed past the 14-day closing period should be addressed in a more urgent manner.
I have also reached out on Reddit and Twitter, because obviously calling the VZW support does nothing to alleviate my situation. I am very dissatisfied with how VZW is handling an illegal and fraudulent change on my account that has shafted me out of 500 dollars.

You seam to be focusing your anger at Verizon and not your sister. Verizon followed the rules and required IDs and passwords to access the wireless account. You and/or your mother are supposed to safeguard that information.  Your sister has committed the felony by stealing your mothers identity for personal gain.
You say "I am very dissatisfied with how VZW is handling an illegal and fraudulent change on my account that has shafted me out of 500 dollars.'  My question to you is who made the illegal and fraudulent change to your account?  Verizon or your sister? Keeping in mind your sister had all the correct IDs and passwords,
I'm sure if you went to Verizon and wanted to make some changes to your account, and you had the correct IDs and passwords, you would be upset and angry if they put you through the 3rd degree because they thought you were committing fraud.
Good luck to you, (seriously) whatever happens,

  • Verizon website shows $599.99 for 2 year contract galaxy tab, but $499.99 for retail & no contract?

Shouldn't the cost be less with a contract than without?

I would like to know the correct 2 year contract price. I called VW but they used the website also and couldn't tell me.
I do not believe there is a discounted purchase price on tablet devices for signing a long term contract.  That is why on the website they are, by default listed with a month-to-month term.
In other words, you must purchase the device at full price and then can purchase the service to utilize it on the Verizon network.

  • At the end of my 2 year contract, what is verizon going to do, in that moment, to make me decide to stay with them for another 2 years

i want to kno what the company plans to do to increase their chances of me signing another 2yr. i dont want the "sale price" with new 2yr due to the fact that im a returning customer intreristed in purchasing a second contract. i also dont want to have to mail in my old phone to recieve my upgraded phone. i used and paid for that phone for 2 years, its mine. (In my minds eys)  basically they negioated the first contract  i want to be able to say this is what i want in this contract and they decde if I am  "woth the investment" the way i did when i signed mY first agreement. and i want increasing incentives as my time with the company increases.

How can paying 35 for a phone not be cheaper than that edge plan that
wanted me to pay between 18.95 -28.95 a month for until $299 was paid
hmmmmmm my math seems to suit me fine
Depending on your data allowance, you will get either a $15 or $25 discount on you line access fee when on Edge which you DO NOT get when signing a contract.
Your math on the price of a phone seems a bit off, too. If you are paying $18.95/month for the phone, that means a full retail value of $455. Paying  $28.95/month means a full retail value of $695. Not really sure where you are getting that $299 number. The monthly payments on a $299 full retail value phone would be $12.46.
Regardless, WITH a discount of $15/month those monthly prices you are talking about would come down to $3.95 to $13.95 and WITH a discount of $25/month those monthly prices you are talking about would come down to $6.05 CREDIT to $3.95.
With your $299 full retail value phone, the CREDIT you would receive monthly on your bill would either be $2.54($15/month discount) or $12.54($25/month discount).
Maybe you need to check your math again????

  • Halfway through 3GS 2 year contract, How much to upgrade?

I got a 2 year 3GS contract last year and now that the iPhone 4 is coming out, I am considering getting it but I don't know if there is any trade in scheme announced. My 3GS was £180 plus the extra amount each month. Does this mean I can buy the iphone 4 for a similar price and transfer over my contract? Also how much will the 4G be brand new? Thanks for the help

There will not be a trade-in.
You can sell your existing iPhone to someone else and use the proceeds to purchase the iPhone 4. You need to contact the carrier for your iPhone regarding your eligibility requirements for being able to purchase the iPhone 4 at a subsidized or discounted price and if you won't be eligible, what the early upgrade or full retail sales price for the iPhone 4 will be.

  • What is the process to upgrade at full retail, switch SIM cards, and keep old plan with unlimited data feature

I'm on a really old plan...America's Choice Family Share 500, Free N&W, with 2 lines, and each line has the unlimited data feature on the line.
Neither line has a texting package.
I currently have a Droid Bionic (large SIM card) & want to get a Droid Turbo (small SIM card).  It is literally cheaper for me to pay full retail for a phone (actually 2 phones) than switch to a "More Everything" plan because my plan is so old.  Across the two lines, we probably only use 3-5 GB/mo, so we aren't 'heavy' data users, but we aren't using 1-2GB/mo either.
I went into a VZW Corporate store, and they said I should be able to keep my plan with unlimited data if I pay full retail, but the sales person said their system has been knocking off unlimited data for other customers, even for something as small as a SIM card change.
I tried upgrading on verizonwireless.com, and the system tried to kick me out of my America's Choice Family Share 500 plan.
What is the process to get a new phone, pay ~$600 for it, get the new SIM card assigned to the account, and keep my calling plan with unlimited data?
(I also have the option to turn on & off Mobile Hot-Spot for $30/mo at will...but probably only have it active for 1 week a year, if that)
    Thanks!

Just log into your my verizon and order a phone at the full retail price. When you add the phone to the cart you choose 2 yr price, edge or full and then hit add. You will have to choose a plan but that plan does not go into effect since you are buying a phone out of contract, it is just part of the process. You then will not lose the data

  • I am halfway through my 4s contract and wanted to buy a 5, but only see the 64 gig available to me for 649 but that requires a 2 year contract. Where can I buy w ou getting locked into a contract and for how much?

Your contract is with your service provider - it has nothing at all to do with Apple.
You can buy a contract free and/or unlocked iPhone from Apple and use it with whatever carrier you wish.  Your contract terms with your current service provider remain in effect for your iPhone 4s though, so if you cancel with them (or port your number out, which accomplishes the same thing) you will owe them early termination fees and so forth.
Even if you pay full retail but want to use the phone with your current service provider, you are still obligated to complete the terms of your existing contract.

  • If I buy a phone under a 2 year contract?

If I purchase a phone under a 2 year contract and then end the contract early, do I also have to return the phone?

And keep in mind that a new activation will require a $35 activation fee (or a $30 upgrade fee if you're upgrading a line), plus you'll pay a month in advance for your service.  And when you cancel the line, the service isn't pro-rated.  In other words, run the numbers because depending on which phone you're looking at as 'free' with a two-year contract, the cost may be close to paying full retail in the long-run, and it would be an easier process to just pay full retail in that case.

  • 2-year contract required to upgrade?

Is a two-year contract required to upgrade your phone? If so, does this mean that if I buy an iPhone 4, I can't upgrade until the iPhone 6 comes out?

When the 3GS was released last summer, AT&T offered an early upgrade price for those with a 3G who had not met their contract obligation for the subsidy AT&T paid Apple on their behalf for the 3G they purchased at AT&T's fully subsidized price 12 months or so before. AT&T still offers this now.
AT&T's fully subsidized price for the 3GS is $199 for the 16GB & $299 for the 32GB. This price is for new AT&T subscribers and for existing AT&T subscribers that qualify for AT&T's upgrade or fully subsidized pricing with a new phone - any new phone including the iPhone.
AT&T's early upgrade price for the 3GS is $399 for the 16GB & $499 for the 32GB. This price is for existing AT&T subscribers that haven't fulfilled their existing contract for a subsidized phone - for existing subscribers that don't qualify for AT&T's upgrade or fully subsidized pricing with any new phone.
AT&T's full retail sales price the the 3GS is $599 for the 16GB & $699 for the 32GB.
AT&T will probably do the same with the next generation iPhone and for the next one after that for those that must have the next generation iPhone when released.
Before the iPhone, did you get a new phone every 12 months, or every 18 or 24 months?

  • Has anyone purchased the iPhone 4 full retail price?

I'm currently thinking about purchasing the iPhone at the unsubsidized price which is $700 for the 32GB iPhone 4. But my upgrade is available until May 8 of this year.
I'm a kinda impatient person but working on being patient but I really do want the iPhone.
Has anyone bought the iPhone 4 at a unsubsidized price or was it subsidized?
I'm on a family plan also and my sister line (primary) and my mother line (month to month non contract) is available for upgrade. I can use those I hope...
    Thanks...

Many people on here have bought the iPhone at the full retail price because their upgrade wasn't up yet. In your situation, I would advise you to wait until May 8th, it's a lot closer than most people's and it's a substantial discount when you wait. You'll save $400. Or as you've pointed out, you can use your sister's or mother's upgrades right now if they don't mind, and then whoever's upgrade you take can use yours on May 8th. That would also be a very good choice, rather than purchasing the full retail iPhone.

  • Have to buy at FULL Retail price????????

I am not due for an upgrade, but I thought that if I extended my current contract by 2 years that I could get the $199 price but NO, Verizon things I will pay full retail price to get it now.   That is messed up.  Guess I'll wait for the iPhone 5.

So much for loyalty!  We stuck with Verizon through thick and thin and now they won't let us upgrade early.  If they really want to show us that they care about our loyalty the Execs at VW would waive the upgrade eligibility restrictions and let all existing customers upgrade to the iPhone if they so choose.  To send an email to us thanking us for our loyalty and commitment to VW and then not offer early upgrades is a disgrace.  Why have I stuck with VW so long?  I have no idea....we will be looking for a new carrier soon.
It all depends on when you upgraded last. Keep in mind that VZW often loses money on the phone discounts, which is made up through the bottom line cost of the monthly payments for the term of the contract. They care about loyalty, but not something that will damage their overall ability to make money or make up the revenue that was lost. They are not disgracing you in the least, but to some extent, you have to abide by the terms of the service that you agreed to. Just as much, if they did anything that defied their agreement, you would be unsatisfied.

  • Upgrade eligible but only get full retail option

I have really been excited about getting the new iphone and thought I would be upgrade eligible just in time.  I have an annual contract that has been telling me forever that I am eligible for a "discounted upgrade" on January 31, 2011.  So now that it's the 31st I check and it now tells me I am eligible for the discounted upgrade.  When I clicked on it I am only given the option to upgrade at full retail price.   I don't understand what's going on.  Anybody else ever had this trouble?  Is it something to do with the 1-year contracts?

The best option is to call customer service. No one here personally knows your account. Or what could be wrong with it. Call vzw customer support and explain the situation. I understand its frustrating but the best way to get a solution is to call the customer reps

  • If I purchase a phone online can I get the monthly payment without the two year contract?

There is the Edge payment option to spread the full retail price of the phone over the course of two years. It is a payment contract and not a service contract.

  • Eligible for smart phone "deal" - if replacing damaged smart phone already under 2 year contract?

Am I eligible for the promotional reduced price ("smart phone deal") for a pre-owned smartphone (requiring a "new" 2 year activation) --- if I am replacing a damaged smart phone that is 4 months into an existing 2 year contract?  I do not want to pay the deductible required to make a claim with Asurion for  my damaged Apple 5s.

You would not be, you would pay full retail price as you're not eligible to sign a new 2 year agreement until you complete your current contract.
