Full screen colour profile problem

I just posted this as feedback to Apple and was curious to see if anyone was having the same problem:
I have a dual monitor setup: One Eizo CG222W and one Eizo CG210. The 222W is my primary display (menu bar on this one). Both monitors are calibrated and profiled with a Spyder3 and ColorEyes Display Pro. I have the profiles loaded on both displays. It is worth noting that both (particularly the 222W) are wide gamut, so you may well not see this happening if you are looking at an Apple Cinema display (no offence, but you're just not going to see this so pronounced on an Apple display). To put it into perspective, I have just bought the CG222W and was not noticing any issues with the CG210 because its gamut is narrower (but still wider than a cinema display).
So, if I view an image within Aperture (not full screen), then it looks normal, but when I hit full screen and look at the same image (on the same display), it is noticeably over-saturated. As a check I also opened the same image in Photoshop (on the same display) and it looks exactly the same as when viewed in the normal (non full screen) view of Aperture.
It is clear that there is a colour profile problem with Aperture. It appears that when full screen mode is selected, a different profile is loaded for the display, or a different working space (if Aperture provides such functionality). I won't be doing any image adjustments in full screen mode until this has been corrected.

There is well documented issue with this problem. The fix is to set your default monitor to whichever monitor you are using to view Aperture in full screen, using color sync utility.
The reason you don't have this problem in PS is because it has its own color management within the software.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

  • Quicktime/iTunes Full Screen Color Profile Issues?

    I'm running Yosemite now, but this has been an issue long before I upgraded from Mavericks as well.  The default color calibration in OSX is overly bright and blown out on my monitor, so I have a custom calibration set up and in use on my Mac Mini. The profile I created looks great for general viewing, movies or anything else I want to do.
    However...there seems to be an issue with Quicktime in either the app itself or when playing a movie from my iTunes library. If I play a movie in a window there are no issues, but the problem comes when I play a video in full screen mode. The color calibration looks just fine UNTIL the play controls automatically disappear from the screen. That's when it seems to go back to the default color profile that's blown out and muddy looking. Move the mouse so the controls come back up, color profile goes right back to the one I have set....until they go off the screen again, when the default profile is back.
    Anyone else experiencing this and maybe found a workaround or way to fix it?  I've found a couple mentions of it on the web in forums, but no answers or even replies were ever given.

    Me too and it's very annoying. Exactly the same symptoms of the colour changing when the fullscreen controls disappear.
    I've used a colormunki to create a custom profile for my monitor for photoshop use. Has everyone else done something similar?
    I created the profile before Mavericks & Yosemite updates so I might try deleting it and creating a new one to see if that helps.

  • Colour profiles problem - images saving too dull. Please help.

    I realise you have probably had this question a million times before and I have looked at enough related threads, but I am still at a loss as to what to do. Please note I'm not the most computer-savvy.
    For the record I am using Photoshop 7 (yes it's old, but it suits my needs just fine!) and Windows Vista Home Premium.
    What I do is take photographs of my artworks, edit them in Photoshop until they look accurate, then post them online. Images have always looked identical in every program, and I had never had any problems, until I got connected to the Internet on Tuesday. This computer has not been connected to the net for a good few years, and so lots of updates got installed. I'm not sure which ones exactly, as my boyfriend took care of that, but I'm convinced this has caused the problems I am having now:
    First I found that an image I had edited and saved as .jpg for web use was showing up overly saturated and contrasty in the Windows Photo Gallery preview. I assumed I had saved it wrongly. I re-opened the jpg in Photoshop to check - it looked exactly as I had saved it. I figured something had messed up with Photo Gallery during updates, so I uploaded the jpg to the Internet. The image that uploaded was the overly-saturated, contrasty one.
    After realising that suddenly ALL the images I had uploaded online, and all the images saved on my computer, now had this awful over-saturated look, and yet the thumbnails on my desktop looked fine... I realised it must be something to do with the colour profiles, and tried to find out the answer online. My monitor colour profile was set to "21.5 inch monitor" so I changed that to sRGB as default. I can't remember what Photoshop was set to, but at any rate I set it to sRGB also.
    I thought I had it fixed, as it seemed to just be Photo Gallery that was not matching up (it was displaying my images with less saturation than as I saved them).
    However today I took a new photo of a drawing I'm working on, to load onto my blog. I had to take it into Photoshop to make edits and correct, as always. I opened my photo in Photoshop... lo and behold, far too contrasty and saturated!!
    This time, Windows Photo Gallery preview is showing the (unedited, straight out of camera) photo as it should be... Photoshop opens it too contrasty.
    I made my edits anyway, saved for web as .jpg, checked the jpg in Photo Gallery before uploading... It saved duller than it should have done!
    Uploaded the jpg to the internet... and I have the dull image uploaded.
    So first they were too contrasty, now they're too dull. I have tried to follow advice given on similar topics, to no apparent avail.
    Being an artist who displays work online and has a certain reliance on the internet... my images have to be accurate and consistent all the way through. Is there anything I can do to set things back to the way they were before?
    I appreciate any help.

    eartho - All my images are already converted to the sRGB colourspace by default, as far as I can tell. My images out of camera, the ones I have edited and saved as jpg - I even checked some old images. Through Mode/Convert to Profile, they're all already set to sRGB.
    emil emil - Thank you. I will do that in the morning - right now my head hurts and I need my bed.

  • Colour profile problem?

    I'm using Indesign CS2 to create large numbers of web banners but have just noticed some odd colour behaviour after creating my templates. I prefer Indesign to Photoshop and Illustrator for this because it allows better control of text. Colour profiles for all applications is sRGB.
    In InDesign CS2 I have a box filled with r255 g0 b0:
    1. Export as a jpeg and open with photoshop the red changes to r248 g0 b0.
    2. Copy and paste the entire page into Photoshop gives r255 g0 b0.
    3. Put an image with transparency over the red box and export as a jpeg gives r208 g5 b24.
    I have gotten aroung this problem by not using transpapency in images - but why would transparency affect the colour of other elements on the page?
    Many thanks in advance...

    I try to export a page or spread as a jpeg and the color profile is stripped. I've made sure transparency bleed space is RGB but I still get no profile in the resulting jpg.
    Any thoughts?

  • Weird colour profile problem

    I have a monitor (Dell 3008 WFP 2560x1600) colour profile created by my Spyder 3 Elite hardware unit and software.
    For some reason photoshop is getting it wrong.
    If I print screen an empty photoshop window and then paste that into photoshop, it gets a bit yellower. Repeat a few times, and it gets really yellow, as in the attached jpg.
    What's going on? Why is photoshop making stuff yellow?
    Thanks

    Nothing unexpected is happening here.
    Calibrating and profiling does NOT make your color-managed and non-color-managed applications match, nor make your screen grabs containing mixed output from color-managed and non-color-managed apps more accurate, in itself.  In fact, it does just the opposite.  Try to understand that, after profiling, your color-managed applications are putting out ACCURATE color while the non-color-managed applications are putting out INACCURATE color.
    If your profiling process has delivered a profile that makes the color values more yellowish (e.g., reduces blue values) to compensate for your monitor's tendency to make them more bluish than they should be, then you would expect to see exactly what you're seeing.  Each new screen grab and paste, unless you go through the process I list below, amplifies the differences in the pixels that have gone through the process more than once.
    Unless your system is set up to use sRGB as the monitor profile, if you want the image within a screen grab from a color-managed app (like Photoshop) to exactly match the content of your color-managed document, you MUST go through this:
    1.  Grab the screen.
    2.  File - New and paste the capture into Photoshop.
    3.  Edit - Assign Profile, and choose your MONITOR profile, provided by the calibrator.
    4.  Edit - Convert to Profile, and choose sRGB (for example).
    5.  Publish the image.
    In step 3 you're telling Photoshop that the image was captured from YOUR MONITOR, and that the monitor's profile describes what's in it.  Then you're converting the color values in that image in step 4 to a document profile everyone understands.
    -Noel
    P.S., From time to time I try to advise people on how to make their color-managed and non-color-managed output match more closely, though doing so always seems to invite a bunch of heckling from small-minded people who think that even wanting to accomplish that is somehow bad.  If you'd like to try to do that, adjust your on-monitor controls to make the display look more yellowish (e.g., lower the blue a bit) and then re-calibrate/profile your display.  You should find that the profile that's generated by the recalibration will then cause less color shift than what you're now seeing.

  • Colour profile problem in Mountain Lion

    Hi all
    Setting up a brand new MacBook Pro (10.8.4) for my boss and I have installed CS5 Standard suite on there. He’s a standard user, not an admin. I have installed three ICC profiles in his user’s profile folder (HD>Users>[User]>Library>ColorSync>Profiles) but they are not showing up in the list of profiles that Photoshop or Indesign recognise, even after restarting the programs. I copied them to HD>Library>ColorSync>Profiles and HD>Library>Application Support>Adobe>Color>Profiles>Recommended also but with the same result. I made sure he had Read & Write access to the profiles and to the folders – still no luck. After that I repaired the permissions, again no success.
    Copies of the same profile files are being used on various macs and PCs without any problems. Quark 9 can see them. When logged in as an admin PS/ID can see the profiles.
    I’m confused - any help appreciated!
    Iain

    Wow - that's done it. Thanks - I had forgotten about that utility. It found something wrong with each of the profiles - didn't make a note but it all sounded like minor stuff ("padding", "header") so I repaired them and they showed immediately in PS/ID. Guess Mountain Lion is more picky about profiles than Snow Leopard (what our other Macs run).
    thanks again,
    Iain

    Hi there @MajorKh
    I understand that you are getting full screen colour distortion, and lines on the display of your notebook.
    From how you describe the display it sounds like a hardware problem. Please see the following, just to verify as there is a section that matches what you describe.

  • Help! - colour profile of screen changes

    Hi all,
    I'm new to macs - this is my first. I am a keen photographer and will be using it to edit photos
    Overall I have noticed a 'warm' or yellowy cast to the screen which can be changed by calibrating but the weird thing is...
    the colour balance and look of the screen changes depending on how you view the photos. Just to test the screen i uploaded some photos into iphoto. If you view this photos as thumbs or even just double clicking on one (so it occupies a large part of the screen) the photo has lower contrast and more yellow white balance - if you then edit it or go full screen the profile changes to a much better balance with much more contrast - is this normal - should i be worried - is there something i'm missing??
    I haven't tested it with photoshop yet but i'm worried that i'm saddled with a poor representation apart from on full screen
    Please help if you can

    Go to the Energy settings in the System Preferences and select the high performance setting, that will switch you to the 9600M GT GPU. See if that makes a difference.

  • Why can I no longer watch music videos in full screen mode via a playlist in the music app since upgrading to ios7?

    Since upgrading to ios7 my iPhone 4S no longer allows me to watch music videos in full screen mode when I select the clips via a playlist from the music app.
    It's now more necessary than before to use the music app rather than the video app to select music videos to play.  That's because the video app doesn't list music videos by artist any more. And also because the fast forward and rewind buttons on headphones remote no longer work on videos.
    How do I watch full screen videos when rotating my iphone now shows my music library rather than showing the video itself?

    I do not think it is a problem to play videos in the full screen mode using the video app.  It should work just fine, it does work ok for me  on iphone 5.  The original question was to play music videos in the music app.  Music videos and videos are two different things - I am not sure why but they are.
    The problem here is that the music app supports lists and the video app does not.  I just looked at the ios7 video app and while my few test videos are shown in it, the lists they were in (in iTunes) are nowhere to be found.  There is no lists in the video app - period - which is as it was before.
    The video app plays videos and music videos in the full screen mode no problem but if you have a few hundreds or more of such videos you will have hard time finding the one you want to play.  There is simply no way to categorize or group videos.  The old good folders/directories are, I guess, too simple for Apple.  It is just too bad that for years on end the world's leader in S/W development did not offer anything to categorize videos.
    You have lists, albums, etc., for music, you have albums for pictures but you have absolutely nothing for videos.  And this is and has been the Apple's state-of-the art solution for this problem - simply insist that the problem does not exist.  Actually it is getting worse.  Not only there is nothing to categorize or group videos but now the only way it could be done (by marking videos as music videos and using the music app) results in a mini playback area.
    Soon this OS will be able to cook dinner for your but grouping videos... no way.
    What is happening here???

  • Full screen mode

    I would like to run firefox 31.0 in full screen mode. Getting into full screen is no problem. How do you get out of it without using the keyboard shortcut? I understand you can put the icon on the toolbar OR the add-on bar, but i would prefer it in both locations. Is this possible? I really prefer to have it at the bottom of the page on the add on bar, but then it won't show when you want to exit.
    I don't suppose it would be possible to customize the right click menu.... that would be the ultimate in customizing.

    If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
    Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.

  • Mac Mini does not display HDMI 1080i in full screen on TVs

    I have a 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac Mini that I am having problems getting video to display 1920 x 1080 @60hz in full screen on my Sony XBR 1080p HDTV. The Mac is connected to the TV via a DVI to HDMI cable. The Mac recognizes the display as a "Sony TV"
    When the Mac first starts up the entire TV screen is filled with the grey Apple startup screen, but when the Mac fully boots and gets to the desktop, the screen has shrunk so that it is slightly off the screen on the left, and has about 80% of the screen filled horizontally and about 90% vertically. I have tried all combinations of the overscan selection on the Mac and on the TV, but they make the image about 120% of the size of the screen so the top, bottom and sides are cut off.
    I have tried 2 different 1080p HDTVs with the Mac Mini and get the same results for both TVs.
    Now here is the thing that makes me believe that there is something funky with the Mac Mini. If I take my 2.16 GHz Macbook Pro 15" Intel Core 2 Duo and plug its DVI display port into the Same DVI to HDMI cable that is connected to the same Sony TV, it displays full screen with no problems.
    What can I do to make my Mac Mini display properly?

    Thanks for the ideas.
    I did as you suggested, but the only 1920x1080 selection shown was one for "NTSC" which I would think is interlaced. This was after a reboot. All of available resolutions are labeled with "NTSC". When I look at the screen resolutions on my MacBook Pro when it is connected to the TV, they are labeled as "Interlaced". On both computers there are no progressive scan selections.
    As an interesting note, regardless of what display resolution I select, the display area on the TV screen remains the same which is about 80% of the screen offset to the left. When "overscan" is selected, this mode enlarges to image to about 120% of the screen and cuts off the menu bar etc. However the MacBook fills about 98% of the screen in "normal" mode.
    If there was a less aggressive Overscan mode or more aggressive normal mode, that would fix the issue.
    Any other ideas on how to adjust this?

  • Safari full screen glitch when adding Bookmarks

    Hey there people!
    Love Safari, but I've had a fullscreen operation glitch for probably a year and still have not found a solution. The glitch only occurs while Safari is in full screen mode.
    Problem:
    1. Occurs when adding a new bookmark (in any method either thru keyboard shortcut, menu (bookmarks > add bookmark) or share button (share > add bookmark)
    2. Adding Bookmarks pop up menu appears (confirming bookmark location) but underneath the pop up menu the Safari window flickers to full screen view of default mac brushed aluminium backdrop and the space quickly slides to the left. While this is happening another brushed aluminium desktop slides from the right and into view. This backdrop then flickers to reveal original Safari window content with Bookmarks pop up menu ontop.
    3. However at this point before confirming bookmark add - if all desktop spaces are revealed via Mission Control, Safari has created a blank desktop space with Safari logo to the left of the original Safari screen. This space is titled the current web page but the thumbnail is blank (mac brushed aluminium backdrop). If the space is selected I can only see the brushed aluminium backdrop. It cannot be closed (with command W or Esc) or via Mission Control.
    4. Back to original Safari window. After I confirm which folder to save the bookmark, Safari space slides to the left and merges with the ORIGINAL desktop space (the default desktop that is created on system boot which cannot be moved or deleted). This space now looks like normal fullscreen Safari however the dock and menu bars are showing and the space is titled Desktop rather than Safari.
    6. In order to display Safari in proper fullscreen mode again, Safari has to FIRST "EXIT Full Screen" (using either keyboard shortcut or menu shortcut, full screen button does not appear). After EXIT Full Screen, Safari is correctly displayed in windowed mode in DESKTOP. Safari has to Enter Full Screen as normal to restore Safari as its own space and in full screen.
    Notes:
    - Glitch does not occur at other times (including adding pages to Reading List or during another pop up menu such as (File > Save As).
    - The glitch was first evident since fullscreen implementation in Lion. I have since updated to Mountain Lion hoping it would fix the issue but it remains unaffected.
    - I have attempted removing all Safari extensions. I have also tried removing 3rd party plugins such as Growl, Alfred. But this hasn't made any difference.
    Macbook Pro mid 2010
    Safari 6.0.4
    OS X 10.8.3
    Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions? (clean install of OSX will most likely work but is last resort)

  • Maintaining proportions with full screen flash

    hi, I have a flash site set up that allows a mc in the
    background containing various images to always take up the full
    browser window while the foreground elements remain unchanged. What
    I would like to do is keep the background images from distorting
    when the window is resized...a good example of this is on
    redtettemer.com - it maintains proportions and just cuts off at the
    bottom or side if it would cause any distortion.
    this is the current code I have on frame 1:
    Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
    Stage.align = "TL";
    var stageListener:Object = new Object ();
    stageListener.onResize = positionContent;
    Stage.addListener(stageListener);
    function positionContent():Void {
    portfolio_bg._width = Stage.width;
    portfolio_bg._height = Stage.height;
    positionContent();
    can anyone help with this?
    thanks

    No, like cberube said, the graphics aren't corrupt/garbled at all.
    The frame rate of the flash video when full screened is the problem here. It has to be something related to OSX and the Adobe Flash player built into the browser. I tried this in both Safari and Firefox to isolate the browser as a variable in the problem.
    No matter the quality of the flash vid (it could be an HD TV show from hulu, or it could be some crappy youtube vid) the frame rate will drop massively if you select full screen, but return to normal "smooth" rate when you exit full screen. The only way to fix this is to uncheck "Enable Hardware acceleration" by right clicking on the flash video and entering the flash player settings within the browser.
    This is only a work-around as unchecking hardware acceleration means your CPU must now work harder to render the graphics since it seems the OSX on-board graphics unit isn't capable of handling it. Normally, if this happened, OSX would activate the NVIDIA gpu which should be more than capable of rendering a full screen flash video without breaking a sweat. This doesn't seem to be occurring though.
    Hopefully this is a clearer description of the problem.

  • Full screen capture

    Using Captivate 5, I need to create a project that captures Full Screen. Everything on the monitor needs to be part of the capture. My monitor is set to display at 1024 x 768. Captivate is set to 1024 x 768 Full Screen. When capturing the slides, I am not scrolling. However, after capturing the slides, when I preview the project, I have to scroll. How can I capture the full screen and not end up with a project that requires scrolling to see the whole slide?

    The unfortunate (and unvarnished) truth is that you simply can't. Sure, you can capture at full screen. No problem with that. But you have to play the darn thing back. So where does playback occur? Usually in the browser, right?
    Consider the image below:
    The area highlighted in Red is the space available (at least in this configuration) for presenting the Captivate output. As you can see, there is less space available because the browser itself consumes space. And that is what causes the scroll bars.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Full screen games crash at launch on Bootcamp Win XP with Apple Cinema Disp

    Hello,
    strange issue to me. Everything goes flawlessly on Win XP on Bootcamp on my 2010 MBP 13", and games launch full screen with no problem. But as soon as I use my external 20" Apple Cinema Display, they crash immediately after launch. I wouldn't know on Windows how to get console logs etcetera.
    This is an issue with all games launched at full screen. No issue in applications.
    How to fix this?

    Anyone, please.
    This now only happens with Unreal Engine games since I chose "use this screen only" on my Nvidia preferences. I think it has to do with the Win XP drivers for this Nvidia integrated chip (Geforce 320M), which aren't much updated in Win XP. I think I could fix it by updating to Windows 7 and using newer drivers which aren't available in XP. Hope so.
