Full Screen Cover Flow Disables Keyboard After Sleep

I've noticed that if you are using Cover Flow in full screen and put your Mac to sleep (by closing the lid on my PowerBook G4), it will disable the keyboard at the password prompt.
You have to manually shut down the computer by using the power button.
Can someone please duplicate this? I've tried it on a PowerBook G4 and an iBook G4 with the same results.
Here are my setting to duplicate the bug:
1. Preferences > Security > "Require password to wake this computer from sleep or screen savor" checked.
2. iTunes > Party Shuffle > Cover Flow > Play a song and then go to > Full screen
3. Close lid on laptop.
4. Wait for the computer to sleep. Open lid, and see if you can type your password.
Please let me know what your results are.
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have the same problem - the only way I've found to clear it is to turn off completely and restart.........

I'd love to be able to click a cover in Full Screen Cover Flow to flip it around and select the album track to play. Just like in iPhone! And maybe even give stars there. Please Apple! It would make the FC-option even more useful and browsing my CD's very visual experience.

Full Screen Does Not Come Back After Minimizing Firefox to the Taskbar.
I work in full screen almost exclusively ... the toolbar and the URL are still displayed while in full screen.
Before this version (30.0), when I minimized Firefox to the taskbar so that I could go to the desktop or to Windows Explorer, when I finished what I was doing and re-selected Firefox it would go back to full screen. Now, it does not go back to full screen. I can still see the taskbar. I have to press [f11] two more times to get back to full screen.
I have tried with and without addons enabled. Same behavior. I have reset Firefox ... same behavior.
    I'm using Firefox 30.0 and Windows 7 (64 bit).
    Thanks.

    Hi moose53,
Just tested it with a Logitech keyboard and you are right, what you are describing is not expected behavior. I see you do not have any add ons, however does this also reproduce in Safe Mode? [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]

  • IMac screen will not come on after sleep

iMac screen does not come on after sleeping for a period of time - twice now from overnight. The back seems to be warm. I have to hold the on button until I hear the drive and system shut down.  Then after period of time it will start just fine.  ?????

I know that some of the older imacs had overheating problems that caused unexpected sleep.  try to keep the display darker and keep the room not too hot.  That seems to usually solve the issue.

  • TS3533 How can I shut down my PowerBook wiyh retina display in case of black screen and nonresponsive keyboard after sleep?

Installed OS 10.82 and EFI update and put the system to sleep. Trying to wake it again resulted in black screens and an irresponsive keyboard: there seems to be no way to shut the system down in this case. My solution was to unplug the machine and let it blow the fans and run "by itself" untill it after several hours shut down because of low battery charge. After plugging it in again, it would start on key board command and now works fine.
Question: Is emptying the battery really the only way shut the laptop down in this case?

All you should need to do is push and hold the on/off button for a few seconds. It should shut it down cold.
If it doesn't you may have a defective machine.

  • Screen won't turn on after sleep for newest macbook pro (Feb 26 2011)

    Hi!
I just bought the 13' Macbook Pro with an 2.7GHz dual-core i7 processor and 500GB of space, the $1500 model. I am having a problem with the screen and I am wondering if I should be worried about it or if anyone else has noticed it. If it continues, I will have to take it into the store and see if I can get it fixed.
My macbooks screen will not turn on after it falls asleep for a long period of time. The first night I had this computer, it was playing music and I turned the screen brightness all the way down/off and then I fell asleep. The energy settings were set so that the computer would fall asleep after 20 minutes. Pathfinder, F.lux and iTunes were the only application running at the time. When I woke up the next morning, the light on the computer's side indicating it was asleep was slowly fading in and out (as expected). I hit some keys on the keyboard and the keyboards backlighting turned on after a few seconds.
But the screen did not turn on. I tried adjusting the screen brightness on the keyboard and nothing happened. After a few minutes, I held down the power button and heard the computer turn off. I turned the computer back on, AND THE SCREEN LOOKED VERY STRANGE. I could see part of iTunes fragmented/segmented into 5 or 6 sections across the screen. There were also strange lines going across the screen. It looked kind of like a leftover image of iTunes that could be solved with a screen refresh. I turned off my computer again and turned it back on about two more times, and then the screen would simple just not turn on.
As I was packing up to go to the Apple Store, I tried one more time to turn my computer on and the screen was working fine. This was yesterday, and for the rest of the day the computer seemed to work fine. However, I don't think I let my computer fall asleep all day yesterday because I was using it so much.
Basically the same thing happened this morning when I woke up, except to a lesser degree. My computers screen was unresponsive after keyboard input, but I was able to get music to play from my speakers. I restarted it and it seems to be working fine. I didn't see the screen do that weird fragmentation thing this time.
I think something about the sleep function is interfering with my computer's screen. Or perhaps Pathfinder or F.lux have something to do with it. F.lux, by the way, is a application that turns the screen a dark yellowish at night to help your eyes. But I have friends that use this application and I myself have used it for a while and we have never had this problem. Then again, none of them have a 13 inch with an i7.
Does anyone know about this problem and have advice that would save me a trip to the Apple store?
    thanks!

Bad news and good news. The bad news is that it happened again this morning. The good news is that I finally found something interesting in the console log, at the exact second my clock is stuck when the machine is failing to wake from sleep:

From when the problem apparently starts (some point in the night while my machine is idle and supposedly asleep) until when I discover it and reboot the machine, I get dozens or hundreds of the above messages. Now somebody just needs to figure out what that means and stop it from happening...

  • Screen does not turn on after sleep - ProBook 4530s - Windows 8.1 (64bit)

    Hi everyone,
Not sure if this had to be posted in notebook display and video section, or laptop lockups, freezes and hangs. Anyway, I have a problem, where everything is fine with the computer, it's running smoothly, but whenever I make it go to sleep, after it does it instantly, the signals are of a regular laptop sleep - power buton flashing, no other signs of computer being on.
However, the problem appears when turning the computer back on after sleep. After pressing the power button, the computer straight away starts working - you can hear the fan turned on, etc, just that pretty much nothing changes with the screen. Sometimes, with some particular light directed towards the screen, you can even see, that the computer is on (seeing the clock on the display), just like the brightness was set down to 2% or something. And there is nothing that helps from what I have tried to do (tried reinstalling both AMD drivers and Intel HD drivers). I researched this problem extensively but could not find a solution, however, as I have noticed that this is quite an old problem (assuming from the date of the posts this problem first showed up), there might be a solution for it, to which I just have not noticed the answer?
If anyone can help me, please do, the sleep function is essential and extra important function when living on campus at university, I just cannot operate like this.
Hopefully someone will know, thank you in advance.

  • Mac mini loses mouse and keyboard after sleep.

    Hi Everyone:
I recently bought my Mom one of the new Mac mini (I'm a PowerBook user myself), and she's running into some puzzling problems which, while minor, are sufficiently annoying as to confuse poor old Mom.
The system egnrally runs fine after you turn it on, until it goes to sleep. After some undefined period in sleep mode, the Mac mini appears to "lose" the USB keyboard and mouse which is plugged into it. If you press a mouse button or a keyboard key a few minutes within the system going to sleep, the system will wake up and both will work. If you wait a longer period of time (say, 20 minutes or longer, although I haven't sat and timed it at all), pressing any key or mouse button does nothing, and you have to wake it from sleep by using the power button. Once awake, the keyboard and mouse do nothing. The only way to get them back is to unplug both of them (the mouse is chained through the keyboard as the other Mac mini USB slot is used by Mom's UPS), and plug them back in so the Mac mini can re-detect them on the bus, after which everything is happy again until the system has been asleep for too long.
Has anyone experienced this? Both the mouse and keyboard are genuine IBM (as in: made by International Business Machines), although are several years old (I bought them when I worked for IBM, and IIRC they were amongst the first models of USB keyboards and mice that IBM offered, if not the first).
In the interm, I've lent Mom my Apple Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, which has (as you would expect) worked flawlessly. This problem may "solve" itself -- I'm hoping to take Mom out later this week to buy her own Apple Bluetooth mouse and keyboard at the Apple Store.
The other problem, however, isn't as easy (or necessarily as cheap) to fix. Again after the system has been asleep for some time, it often (but not always) changing the resolution of the monitor when it wakes up. I have the mini set to use a reasonable 1024*768, but sometimes when it awakes it will suddenly be set to 800*600 or 832*624. Sure, you can change it back, but that's major surgury for Mom (and I'm moving cross-country next week, and won't be able to just "drop by" to fix system problems). The monitor is an Ambra SVGA model (Ambra was a brand-name of inexpensive PCs that IBM sold some years ago), and never had any such problems on her last (Intel-based) system the mini is replacing.
The whole purpose of the Mac mini is to "bring your own" Keyboard, Mouse, and Monitor -- but in our case the keyboard and mouse don't work at all after sleep, and the monitors resolution gets dynamically changed after sleep. Has anyone else encountered this situations, or any solutions? TIA!
    Brad BARCLAY

    Hey Jan:
I've seen quite a few posts in this regard with non-Apple mice and keyboard.
Well, the mouse and keyboard are quite old -- it could be that they're having a problem dealing with identifying themselves on the USB bus during sleep, or aren't identifying themselves fast enough at wake time. I'll just have to replace them I guess.
I've never seen a sleep resolution switching problem except on a VGA adapter to DVI connection to an old tube monitor.
Well, this is a pretty vanilla CRT monitor circa about 1999, so yeah -- it could once again be an age issue, and the fact that there is a DVI -> VGA adapter involved in the middle.
For worrying about fixing Mom's Mac, setup her remote VNC software (Apple Remote Desktop Client) and use the free Chicken of the VNC admin program.
I am quite familiar with VNC. As much admin as possible will be done by SSH, but I will have VNC in place before I leave. The big problem is going to be the fact that I'm going to be several timezones (and over 4000 km) away, so I won't necessarily be available at a moments notice to help her with this sort of thing.
The CRT issue we might just have to deal with by having her always run it at 800*600 (I don't think she'd really notice the difference, and as her eyes aren't what they once used to be, the slight size increase may be more confortable for her in the long run) until such time they she can afford to buy a nicer display (I did my duty as a son buying her the Mac mini and an iSight camera -- she has to take care of the rest ).
    Yaz.

  • Cover Flow DISABLED

OK after reading through these forums I'm starting to wonder if this is a blessing in disguise, but my cover flow does not engage EVER, no mater what I do. Any ideas? I can play the marble game just fine, and the shake to shuffle works fine, but turning the ipod sideways 90 degrees either direction does not engage cover flow. I cycled the power of the ipod (holding the play/pause button) I reset the ipod (turn the hold button on then off, hold the menu and center button keys till you see the apple logo) and I have restored the ipod as well (using itunes, hit the restore completely wiped ipod) put 2 albums back on and still no cover flow. I also do not get any rotation when watching video or podcasts. Has anyone found a way yet to turn cover flow off, cause maybe then I can turn it on, without trying to return this darn thing.....

  • Expand folder in cover flow using keyboard

When navigating folders and files in List View, I can use up/down to move through the list, and left/right to expand/collapse folders. However, in Cover Flow View, the left/right arrow keys just do the same as up/down.
How can I collapse/expand a folder using the keyboard when using Cover Flow?
    Many thanks,
    Matt

Cmd+arrow keys should open/close the disclosure triangles of folders in "CoverFlow" view.
Also note that Apple finally fixed the Option+arrow key behaviour so we have System 7 functionality back, where all nested folders can be expanded at once.

  • Why is the full screen button missing in iPhoto11 after Lion upgrade?

I upgraded to iPhoto11 with Snow Leopard with no problems. Loved the new look and full screen view. Now that i've installed LION iPhoto appears to have reverted back to the iPhoto 09 look. For example, the full screen tab is missing....  WTH???

I think the problem is that the full-screen button has been moved in the Lion apps. In Snow Leopard it used to be the bottom left, in Lion it is in the top right corner. Is it there in your case?

  • Macbook pro screen won't wake up after sleep

I'm having a strange problem that just started today.
I close my macbook pro lid and put it asleep. Then when I open the lid the keyboard lights up. The screen comes on for about three seconds and everyone looks fine then the screen goes to sleep again. If I close the lid and open it again it comes on for 3 seconds and goes to sleep again.
Occasionally I can get it to stay on hitting Function and brightness keys. But just as often it takes a hard reset to get things working again. But then if I close the lid and open it the problem starts again.
    Any idea?
I'm running the lastest Lion update.

thanks. obviously i'd like to avoid such a time-intensive move before looking at other options.
To make things more intresting I've fund it ONLY does it when plugged into a charger.
AND if I briefly unplug the charger after the screen comes up black it immediately wakes up and stays on.
