i bought a samsung 32' led external screen, but i can get the display resolution to go more than 1280, my macbook pro 13" can only support the 1280, how can i have both screens working with respective resolution, i.e, mac screen to use 1280 and my external screen to use more than 1900

The external display should automatically reset itself to its maximum resolution as soon as you toggle it into Extended Desktop mode.
Try this: Drag the Samsung window (pictured in your screenshot) off the underlying built-in display window, positinoning it immediately to the right or left of the other display window. Can you then reset its resolution or, better yet, does it reset itself?
And another experiment: Close the built-in display. This will put the MBP to sleep and both displays will go dark. With the built-in display still closed, wake the machine by pressing any key on an external keyboard, if you have one, or by plugging a USB device into one of the MBP's USB ports. When the machine wakes, is the external display set to its maximum resolution?

  • Can not properly view cover flow in full screen in external display

My mac is the new Mac book pro 15.4 inch screen and I connect my mac pro to external display e.g. Samsung LCD monitor 24 inches.
The bug is that I can not PROPERLY view full screen (in external display) for some application e.g. iTunes, and Front Row.
    - When I use iTunes, I can not properly view Cover Flow view in full screen (in the external display screen) except the case of mirror display.
    - For Front Row, I can not view full screen in external display but only my mac display.
However, for other DVD or VDO players, I can view movie on external display in full screen and I still be able to do other works on my mac screen.
Please let me know how to solve it.

  • Quick time full screen on external display

I've connected an old CRT Monitor to my Powerbook, works fine. I'm using it to play Movies on it in Full Screen Mode while my Powerbook's screen is free for using any other application. Unfortunately, this works with Apple DVD player and VLC player. In these applications, I just drag the movie window into the middle of the external screen and choose "Full Screen". If I do this in QT (pro), the movie comes on full screen on the built-in screen. In iTunes, the animation appears in full screen on the external monitor, but the Powerbook's screen turns black.
Can I do anything about this?
Powerbook G4 (and one old iBook original tangerine)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   iTunes 6.0.4 QT pro 7.0.4
Powerbook G4 (and one old iBook original tangerine)   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

In the Quicktime Player, under the View menu select Present Movie. In the sheet that appears you'll get a little layout of the available screens. Just select external monitor and hit play.
    I'm not sure about iTunes.

  • Flickering Screen and Lack of Full Screen Support, Flickering Screen and Lack of Full Screen Support

    Hi,
I ran into a few things related to using my Bootcamp MacBook Pro 15” 2011 that I purchased 2012Mar. Having issues on the Mac side, with an external monitor. I bought a ViewSonic VX2753mh LED monitor, hooked it up to my laptop, started in Mac OS and seemed to be going good, able to get 1080p, 1920x1080 res on the monitor even though the 2011 MacBook doesn’t have that resolution on the actual attached screen. BUT, the Viewsonic started to intermittently turn off and back on, in addition when I tried to play a movie (or even a slideshow) in full screen (not mirrored), so that I could surf and watch the movie or slideshow, the full screen version of either would be placed back on my laptop screen while the external monitor had a generic grey with vertical lines screensaver pop up, or vica versa. If I played the movie in a small screen it was ok. Have heard a lot of issues with “flickering”. As for the application situation, maybe that’s something I don’t know about yet since I’m new to Mac. Can I play something like slideshow or a movie in full screen on an external monitor while I surf or type on the laptop monitor? Any ideas on either issue?
    Thanks in advance !!!

Ok, so I solved my full screen problem with VLC, both slideshows of my pics running full screen on external moniter while I work on laptop, and with movies, still getting my external monitor flickering on and off, other threads stop around May, is there anything new ?

  • [X300 intel external display] Problem to display correctly 1600x1200px on external screen

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my external display on my X300 laptop...
    I have a X300 with WinXP, and a 20" 4/3 1600x1200 external display (Samsung 204B).
When I want to use my external display as an extended desktop, it didn't work well... First I configure my display as an extended ... into 1600x1200px resolution. As the ratio isn't 4/3 on the laptop, there is some border at the top and at the bottom of the external screen, consequenly there is an "lift" (when I go down the screen move down.. etc.). It's not very ..cool.
So there is an option into the graphic proprety to set the screen in "full screen : not keeping the proportions". But, in this case, my external screen display an ... triky ? There is still an "lift", but there is also two border on the right and the left of the screen, and the image quality isn't there. It's too deformed to can be read.
After some research it appear that my lenovo drivers do not match with the last intel one... But when I try to install the lenovo one ... It didn't work ! (hardware problem).
How can I get a working extended desktop into 1440x900 + 1600x1200 full screen !
Thanks for all, and sorry for my poor English...

i have the same problem with X200 and the X200 ultrabay Docking station.
    No idea yet ...

  • Macbook External Screen Mirror?

    Hey guys,
I finally have everything I need to coonect my Sony 40" 1080p television to the macbook. I have a mini-dvi to dvi adapter and a dvi to hdmi cable. I was seeing how it works and when I turn on mirror mode for the display I can see everything that is on the macbook's screen with all the apps open and everything, but when I use mirror mode it does not seem like it is at full resolution. Even though it clearly states 1920x1080. Then, when i get out of mirror mode, it looks picture perfect, but I don't know how to run any apps and I don't see the icons on my desktop. The top apple bar is not their either. All I can see is my blue mac background, even though there are a few programs open on the mac. How can I fix this? Am I doing something wrong? Please help. Thanks

you need to have an external keyboard ,mouse and the power pack connected with the lid closed for it to work as the single screen or replacement screen.
you can also unselect mirror mode and have it as an extended screen. to get anything on it just drag an open window over the side of your macbooks display it should move over to your other screen.
you can set which side in system prefs

  • External Screen/Fullscreen/Troubleshoot

OK so recently I had a small flat screen laying around and decided to hook it up to my Macbook pro. I have it connected and can drag other windows over and things like that. The purpose for this is that I do alot of research and need more window space to have multiple documents/windows open at a time to reference back and forth from. My problem is that I am a huge fan of full screen mode on my Macbook Pro, its basically all I use. When I have something on my external monitor, like a document/website/music/ whatever I am using it for and then swipe over to lets say safari or another program on my Macbook Pro I have open in full screenmode, the external monitor swipes with it into this gray blank screen. Is there a way to stop that from happening and to just keep whatever I dragged over onto the external screen and still be able to use my Macbook Pro as I normal would?
    Thanks for your time,
    Tim

I have been getting support about my iMac and am now at the stage when I have been reinstalling my system and restoring my data bit by bit rather than doing a full restore. This has worked to start off with ie there was no problem with my hard drive till now. I wanted to back up my new data and the back ups failed on several occasions till now the computer doesn't recognise the external hard drive. I should be speaking to support again but waiting for them to come back to me I thought the community might be able to help. This is a 2TB WD Ext HDD. I have read that there were complications with the use of external drive with Mavericks but something must have happened to have changed since a week ago when I was restoring my data without any problems. Cheers.

  • Is there any way to delete text messages from the external screen of an LG EnV3?

The internal screen of my phone doesn't work, so I've been texting from the external key pad. But my inbox has gotten full and I can't receive texts anymore. Is there any way to delete texts using only the external screen of the EnV3?

It was awhile ago and I'm not totally sure, but I think this was discussed and the conclusion was that you can't delete texts using the external screen of the Env3. **Edit  (Found one thread: http://community.vzw.com/t5/Messaging-Text-Picture-IM-etc/No-option-to-delete-text-messages-from-front-of-LG-enV3/m-p/43042#M1684 )  It came up in one other thread that I could find and the solution was to use the internal, and similar steps were given - the only difference was using the OK for Menu and #2 for Messages, rather than the left soft key for Messages.  vWhatever works...
What you CAN do, is open the flip, left soft key (which is the Messages menu), and there are several options - these are the text messaging ones -
    1. New Message
    2. Inbox (#)
    3. Sent (#)
    4 Drafts (#)
Press the right soft key (options) and your choices are:
    1.Erase Inbox
    2.Erase Sent
    3.Erase Drafts
    4.Erase All
If you choose Erase All, then OK - it will erase all except unread messages, and locked messages. If you choose any of the numbers, then hit OK, it will erase ALL in that category, read or not, so I would choose Option 4 to erase all but the unread.
HTH, and post back if you have further questions...

  • External screen in vertical mode - how to do it ?

I have a 20" Dell external screen which can rotate 90 degrees, I need to use it in vertical mode but I don't know how, neither if it's possible with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 card which is in my Powerbook.
Is it possible with Tiger ?
Thanks if anyone can help me..!

    I believe it's a 10.4 thing only.
Upon further inspection on the ATI website:
    https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=1362
(Click the release notes - you have to access the release notes from that webpage)
the updated driver seems to indicate that rotation is a new feature for 10.4 for various Radeons, including Mobility RADEON 9000 (PowerBook).
I think Tiger is worth it even if you didn't use rotation, or you can wait for 10.5

  • Satellite P750 - Unable to connect external screen via VGA port

    Hello All,
    My problem is following:
I have been trying to connect my P750 (running on W7 x-64) to an external screen using the VGA port/cable. Unfortunately the external devices does not recognize my laptop. Laptop does recognise the external screen, you can see it in the graphic settings as additional display, but the screen says "no signal".
The computer always identifies the screen correctly, so it looks like there is communication from the screen to the PC, but not the other way round.
This has been checked with 3 separate screens and a TV - always the same. All the screens work properly with different PC's.
    I already did:
    - try to play with FN+F5 / "windows"+P buttons - no change
    - install the latest BIOS and Video drivers from Toshiba website - no change
Any suggestions how to make it work? Is it possible that the VGA port is faulty?
    Thank you in advance.

Hello and thank you for the tips,
I did try the options you suggested unfortunately with no success.
I actually got myself HDMI cable and this connection is working perfectly well. Luckily the very screen I want to attach my laptop to does have HDMI port. It is just a bit annoying to know that the d-sub port seems to be useless.
The lady from Toshiba tech support call centre suggested either OS re-install or sending it to Toshiba for repair/check as it is still under warranty. None of this options suites me at the moment, so I will probably stick to the HDMI. Still, I have a feeling it is a software rather than hardware problem.
    Cheers

  • External screen turns green?

I've had this setup for a while now.. A 12 inch PB with a CRT 17 inch monitor connected to the PB through the "mini dvi to vga" adapter..
Now this is the problem: since a few days the image on my external screen is green.. It's not totally green, i can see pictures and programs but it's like the color balance isn't right.
First I tried to change this through display calibration -> didnt help
Then i tried to manually adjust the color balance through the screen display settings -> didn't help..
So I thought my crt monitor was broken. But then I connected my PB to another external screen trough my "mini dvi to vga" adapter. And I had the same green screen. Then I knew it wasn't my crt monitor that was broken but it had something to do with my output signal..
Fortunately a friend of mine has a nice 20 inch tft display. I tested the connection again with the "mini dvi to vga" adapter and got the same green screen. But then I connected my PB to his 20 inch screen through a "mini dvi to dvi" adapter and the green was gone! So it couldn't be the output singal of my PB..
So i figured my "mini dvi to vga" adapter must not work properly somehow. I don't know how it could have broken. It happened just like that. I turned off my PB, and when I turned it back on the external screen turned green. I didn't do anything weird with it..
Could this be? That the adapter is broken? Or do you guys think there might be something wrong with the output signal after all?
    Anyone encountered something similar?

So I went to an apple store today, and explained them my problem. We tried a new "mini-dvi to vga" adapter but still the external screen was green!! Also, when using my adapter that I supposed was broken on another PB the output singal was perfect! So as it turns out, it's my PB thats not working properly..
The guys at the store said it must be somthing with the motherboard.. I just don't think I can miss my PB for more than a few days!! :P

  • External screen is blurry

When I connect my external screen ( iiyama vision master pro 410 ) to my macbook via the mini dvi to vga connector the screen of the iiyama is blurred. ( not just the text, everything ) It is on it's native resolution, and if i hook up any other pc to it, it's fine.
If I use a mini dvi to dvi connector and hook the macbook up to a different monitor, the image is ok, still slightly blurred, but workable.
    any ideas ??
    tnx !
    Maurits

First, I would make sure your Iiyama's "tuning" is correct. Refer to the Iiyama's user guide for how to adjust the clock phase (tuning).
Second, understand that VGA has limitations. Apple may have put heavy filtering on the video outputs to help with EMI compliance. This will cause video to appear blurry. Of the GMA950 might not have great bandwidth. People have complained about the same thing with the Mac mini, which also uses the GMA950.

  • A brand new W540 and the Ultra Dock humms, black out external screen, won't recognize mouse and some

Just received a W540 and an Ultra Dock. Here is my first impressions.
During setup ... tried to connect my speakers directly onto the laptop.... HUMMMMM! (really loud humming sound, until Windows loads ...sounds like a short somewhere ...). Ok, obviously sound is not the main focus of W540.
After a little while... boink! ... and the external screen goes black accompanied with the "Windows detected something disconnect"-sound. No matter what I clicked on the keyboard, or how much a moved the mouse, the external screen wouldn't turn on again. I had to flip up the screen on the laptop, and tada, Windows reported that something connected again, and the external screen turned on again. Turns out that I need to keep the laptop screen open at all times now, and now and then both screens disconnect and connect again. Not completely a showstopper, but somewhat annoying. Ok, how to fix - enter "lenovo ultra dock black screen" in Google and see that a bunch of people have experienced the same thing. After some reading, I found this official support page "LENOVO THINKPAD PRO DOCK AND THINKPAD ULTRA DOCK ARE CAUSING DISPLAY ISSUES ON EXTERNAL MONITORS" (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht081248). Seems to fit my situation perfectly. Just download the fwdphb03.exe program and follow the instructions. But does fwdphb03.exe even start?!? NO!
Just a brief flicker and no application nor instructions to follow. In addition, I am Administrator on my machine. Please make applications that at least attempt to work....
I have an Aten mouse and keyboard switch (KVM) (CS-1784 to be precise), which have been working seamlessly for years on all other machines I have (VMWare images with different Windows versions, Raspberry Pi and Mac). Connecting the KVM with it's mouse and keyboard renders a working keyboard and a dead mouse (remember - switching to one of the other machines renders working keyboard and mouse instantly).... <rant on>pheeew, starting to get a bad feeling here. OBVIOUSLY we have a lot of cool hardware like USB 3 and DisplayPort and what not, but WHAT DOES THAT MATTER, when the Lenovo folks can't program this stuff properly?</rant off>
The W540 comes with a lot of Lenovo software. Much of it is really good and useful. But what happened when you try to log in to Windows? For some reason Lenovo want to inform you that the Num Lock is on when you see the standard login screen. The message something like "Num Lock is on - your password may be entered incorrectly". All in some black background, covering OVER the login field in Windows !!!! Hey, the laptop has a numeric keyboard, I don't need this message. Luckily others again have experience the same thing. At this page http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/New-T540p-numlock-warning-at-login/td-p/142... I get the tip that I need to rename the tpnumlk.exe to something else. Gone was the stupid message.
My advice to Lenovo - don't include stuff that harvest a lot of complaints and that obviously is going to annoy your customers. Even if the machine was one with a small keyboard and no separate numeric keyboard, I would NEVER EVER want to have some ugly black box covering over the standard login field…  I can’t even imagine that the developer of this tool, use it (nor like it)! That is exactly why bloatware gets its reputation.
I would of course understand all this if I were talking about cheap machines and some wacko docking station. But I am not.... This is state-of-the-art, 2014, expensive-style laptop from the same manufacturer.
PS! At the end of this session, Lenovo tells me that there is a problem with the powersystem, and that it want to reduce power to sustainable levels....

can you connect the device in _*recovery mode*_ ?
