Full screen Playback only on Main Display

I noticed that after upgrading to Lion quicktime player won't play movies full screen on my second display.  Under Snow Leopard if the quicktime window was on the second display and you hit full screen it would fill the display is was on.  Now the video slides to the main display and then goes full screen.  There doesn't seem to be any way to change that behavior.  There are no preferences.
The only work around is to move the menu bar in the display preferences to the second menu, so that the second monitor becomes the main one.
Any solutions or terminal commands I make to set it back to the old way?

This issue seems to be related to Lion's "Full Screen App" mode in Lion, where a window that goes to full screen creates a separate Space, and it always uses the "primary" screen (the one with Menu Bar).  So it's the same as making a Safari window go to full screen; it always uses the screen with the Menu Bar.
But I did noticed something interesting.  If it's a video that can play in iTunes (instead of using QuickTime Player), then you can make it play full screen on the other screen.  Play the video in iTunes so that it plays in a separate window.  Move the window to the secondary screen (the one without Menu Bar), and make it go full screen.  It plays at full screen on that screen.
So it is possible, but Apple has not done it for QuickTime Player.  You should send Apple feedback to request the same functionality for QuickTime Player, like I did.
Also, VLC Player (third-party video player app) still uses the "old school" way of doing full screen mode, so it still works the same way as before.  Full screen will go to the screen that has the window playing the video.

  • Full screen playback jittery with Aero enabled

    Hello,
Currently running the CS5 trial on a new (built specifically for cs5) W7 64 based Dell 12-core Xeon box with three monitors attached via two Nvidia Quadro 3800 cards and am having issues with the full screen playback - namely, when my third monitor  is enabled for full screen playback (connected via DVI>HDMI, 1920x1080@50Hz - yes I'm in PAL land) and my sequence matches, e.g. 50Hz - the playback is jittery (vsync slowing frame rate)- disabling Aero causes most of this to go away but now desktop video has to be disabled and there is some horizontal tearing (e.g. the vsync is now working but slightly adrift).
Googling around seems to indicate others with similar problems so this might be a W7 problem - has anybody else seen this kind of issue, and if so got a decent resolution?
I'd rather not have to splash out on unneccesary HDSDI and then HDSDI>HDMI I/O's when on paper a monitor connected via HDMI should playback correctly (which Windows Media Center does) - it also doesn't seem too much to ask for full screen playback to work 'out of the box', does it? How else are we expected to do this otherwise?
I've filed a bug report on this but any other ideas or suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sacha Goodwin

    2. First thing I did was a clean install of W7 (Enterprise), I always start from vanilla install.
I'm a bit unsure about your tuning guide - can you document what improvements you get after changing said settings? I note the option "Adjust Visual Effects and check Adjust For Best Performance" is one way to turn off Aero (which I've tried anyway), which whilst sort of resolving the original problem, unfortunately now causes other display issues (and also caused CS5 to crash when using the source trimmer window) so have had to switch it back.
Turning off the services as you are suggesting seems a bit drastic just to get a plain DV clip without any FX to playback smoothly (e.g. CPU util is about 3% in these situations, network at about 5%, disk not doing anything).. it's the kind of thing I would have done about 10 years ago but modern machines are supposedly built around HD multimedia so it seems odd to still be expected to do this kind of thing now.
FYI, this was the thread that suggested turning off Aero to fix:

Out of interest, what do other people use to get full HD preview under CS5? Is it all OK out there in NTSC land @ 60fps?
    Thanks

  • Dual Monitor and Full screen playback in Color 1.0

So, I was wondering if somebody could help me out.
I have 2 screens, one is a 23" ACD other is a 23" dell. I am going to be color correcting with my Matrox MXO setup on the 23"ACD. Whenever I do full screen playback the waveform monitor and vectroscope and all that jazz is not available anymore (obviously because of full screen)
So I was wondering what my options were:
    1. Setup the waveform and vector scope to show on my primary display? (if possible, I'm not sure how to do it)
    2. Do I have to get another graphics card and run three monitors?
    3. If I Color grade with full screen playback disabled am I still utilizing the MXO for grading?
I am new to Color and how it works so I apologize if these questions seem "newbie-ish" of me.
    Thanks

Isn't there a SINGLE MONITOR option in COLOR? Use that.
I don't think two graphics cards will work with Color, as Color relies on the card when it comes time to render. Might mess it up, or not work.

  • Full screen playback in PE9 garbled - anyone else see this?

I mentioned this in a general post but I'll make it a specific question now -
When I click on the "full screen" button near the top right of the interface, full screen playback has a corrupted area which corresponds with where the timescale is on the normal interface.  Sometimes the playback cursor "breaks through" as a black vertical line too.
    Does anyone else see this?
I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed.  Windows XP Pro SP3 Q9300 quad core PC 2GB memory.
    Thanks for any observations.

It's very obvious if you do have the problem - a wide strip of the video (horizontal, matching the timescale hidden beneath the full screen display) gets shifted sideways somewhat (flickering on and off), so that any vertical object in the footage gets displaced sideways at that point in an obvious juddering fashion.  I tried to do a screen grab but simply doing that makes the problem change - it is more evident when the footage is running than when frozen.
Anyway, adjusting the Windows Display Properties "hardware acceleration" slider, moving it to the left till it is set to the point where the message beneath reads "Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleraions.  Use this setting to correct severe problems with DirectX accelerated applications" seems to fix the problem.
Graphics card is a GeForce 8600 GT, in case that's relevant.
At least I know how to work around the problem.  Let's see if others come across the same problem in due course.  Maybe it's just a local issue.

  • Full screen playback on second monitor results in having to force quit Premier if a window opens on the second monitor.

Run into this problem a few times now. If I have full screen playback going to my second monitor, and then I try to do something like link media and the link media window opens on that second monitor I can't figure out a way to get to it. I end up having to force quit. Because the link media window causes all other application buttons to disable while it is open I have not been able to find a solution other than force quitting, reopen and disable full screen playback, open link media window and move it to the other monitor and then again enable full screen playback.
Has anyone run into this? Am I missing an easy solution?

You need to set up your Graphics Card Application first eg A and B Monitors , side by side etc.
In my case..a  NVidea Display Application does this from the Control Panel
Then the second monitor will appear in display setting (Premiere).
My second monitor is entirely dedicated to full screen playback display.

  • Full screen playback as with 2nd screen blacked?

I've got two Apple displays hooked up to my G5, and unlike DVD Player, which automatically blacks the second screen when I enter full screen playback, Quicktime leaves the second screen unblacked- I'm hoping I can figure out a way to get Quicktime to black the second screen as with DVD Player? As opposed to simply dimming it (since the syst. prefs don't allow for complete dim-to-black) Any other users notice this as an issue? Obviously not a soul-crushing problem, but is kinda annoying...
Searched for previous posts on this topic, didn't see it posted already, which surprised me. But I don't see any settings in the Quicktime full screen playback settings that might address this.
    cheers,
    Jack

Holy blackout, Batman! That did the trick- my "Full Screen" options were set to "Fit to Screen" instead of "Fill Screen", and I checked the "Background Color- show on all displays" box. Nice. Thanks much!!!

  • Toggling for Full Screen playback

I am having no success toggling to full screen playback in Premier Pro CS6 using ctrl+` or anything else. The onmly way I can get to full screen during playback is by going to Edit/Prefernces/Playback and ticking one of the 2 monitors (or both) that I have connected. The only way of going back to small screen playback is by going into the same menu and deselecting.
Look forward to hearing from anyone,
    Dan

This isn't the answer you are looking for, but maybe I can help a little.
If you look in the keyboard shortcuts and search for "playback" the one under "edit" will at least allow you to call up the window faster than using menus. I assigned Ctrl-Shift-P because I don't care about setting poster frames and I can remember the "P" for "playback".
I don't see any way to select or deselect the monitor via the keyboard. At least not from within Premiere Pro. If you were a moderately talented programmer, there are ways to control Premiere Pro from outside of the program itself. I used to write programs to control other programs but I haven't done so since about 1994.

  • No Full Screen Playback

I am trying to view full screen playback but I am not seeing any AV devices under the video playback menu. When I go to view/Video Playback the only option is "None".
I have ben able to get full screen playback with this setup as recently as today but something has changed.
I tried a complete reinstall and that did nothing.
I have tried refreshing A/V devices but it doesn't detect anything, not even the laptop screen.
    Any ideas?

    Using FCP 7.
I have gotten it to work a couple of times, but I am never sure what is fixing it. Restarting multiple times mixed with something else seems to do it, but then if I restart one more time after that I lose it again - the External A/V window comes up upon launching the program saying that it was unable to locate the Digital Cinema Desktop Preview.

  • Screen Changes With Full Screen Playback Over HDMI

Any one know if this is the best way to report a flash issue to the development team?
Home Theater PC connected to a Sony  Bravia Television via HDMI
Issue is that when the Flash content is played back on full screen, the Television flickers and displays a 'scene changed' anytime the mouse cursor appears or disappears. Happens in IE, Firefox, and Chrome.  This problem began with the latest version of Flash player.

I have been trying to get this to work too.
Seems an obvious void with many of us trying to have both audio and video in a playlist!
Apple, please make it so visualizer plays while a song is playing but a video will play full screen if it's a music video! Please?

  • Full Screen Playback Control Impossible Using Monitor 2 in Dual Monitor

Recent iTunes update (patch didn't fix) causes playback control to disappear when the cursor is on the monitor showing the movie. Controls reappear when cursor is moved to first monitor. User cannot get the cursor near the control panel. Must drop out of full screen playback to touch controls with the cursor.

Isn't there a SINGLE MONITOR option in COLOR? Use that.
I don't think two graphics cards will work with Color, as Color relies on the card when it comes time to render. Might mess it up, or not work.

  • IPhone 4 wont start. Screen remains blank and buttons are unresponsive unless its connected to mains or PC, when an Apple LOGO appears. Only on mains displays IOS 6, update, connect to iTunes. On connecting to PC just displays apple logo on and off.

    Header 1
    Header 2
iPhone 4 screen remains blank and only the apple logo appears on and off when connected to mains or PC. Only on mains occasionaly proceeds to display IOS 6 logo and a slide sign to start recovery which proceeds to an instruction to connect to iTunes. Hwever, as soon as disconnected from mains (in order to connect to the PC) screen goes totally blank again. On connecting to PC the Apple LOGO starts appearing intermittently but does not proceed to display IOS 6 LOGO. I have recharged overnight and followed resetting instructions as per the iPhone support page. Any suggestions (short of taking it to a service centre) ?

did you get any help regarding the problem?? because even i have the same problem!!! guess it all started after updating to iOs 6

  • I have Firefox 19 and the screens are narrow. How can I get full width screens, like I get in IE? Full Screen command only makes my screens taller, not wider.

I just got a new Dell Optiplex computer with Windows 7. I installed Firefox 19 on it. The web pages come up narrow, with borders on each side. So the content of the screen is smaller than what I've gotten in the past with Firefox 3.6 on my previous computer. I did the Full Screen command, and that only made the screen taller rather than giving me a full screen (such as I get with the same web pages in Internet Explorer). I've also tried enlarging the text, but that throws off the format of the web page so some parts of it overlap.
What can I do to get a full screen, including full width?
There is a box below this Details box called "Troubleshooting Information" which says I should click Allow and then click Install. Since I don't know what would be installed on my computer, I did not do it.

The Troubleshooting Information extension adds some useful information to your post, but in this case, I don't think it's really needed.
Zoom is your best bet. To make it work for you, I have two suggestions.
    (1) Switch from "text only" zoom to "full page" zoom. This is proportional like in IE.
View menu > Zoom > ''uncheck'' Zoom Text Only
If you are using the compact menus with the orange Firefox button, tap the Alt key to display the full classic menu bar.
    (2) Install an extension that can default your view to a higher zoom level automatically to save time when visiting new sites. Here are two candidates:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level]
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint]
With that combination, can you minimize your eyestrain? :-)

  • Why i can't full screen my apps in my display?? with the mac os x lion, why i can't full screen my apps in my display?? with the mac os x lion

i have a cinema display and i just downloaded the new mac os x lion. the problem is that i can't use full screen with my display, when i push the full screen button the app moves to my macbook, but i want it to stay at the display.

It appears that the full-screen display will only work on the display that has the menu bar.
You can switch the menu bar to your external display by going to Solid Apple -> System Preferences -> Displays, then Arrangement.
Grab the menu bar and drop it on the icon representing your external display.
When you full screen an app it should then full screen on the Cinema display.
I wish it would just full screen on the display the window is on, but that is evidently not the way it was designed to work.

  • Full screen playback of Keynote stutters, fine windowed

When playing back the 9/5 Keynote, the video stutters in full-screen only. It appears every 2 seconds or so to play a previous frame. So, for example, if Steve is walking across the stage, every 2 steps, he'll appear to take one back .
This doesn't occur when the video is windowed, either at original size, or double size, and I can even use the mouse zoom trick to effectively make it fullscreen, and it's still smooth.
It's pretty annoying. I'm using the latest Quicktime (7.2.something) and Mac OS and everything else that SW update gives you as of today.
    Thanks for any advice.

I tried reverting to QT 7.1.6 to fix the issue and ended up royally screwing up OS X in the process. I did an archive and reinstall, keeping my settings.
That put QT 7.0.4 on, and after updating everything except QT, the problem has gone away.
I haven't tried moving up to 7.1.6 or 7.2.0 again, so I'm not sure if the old QT solved the problem or the reinstall of OS X solved the problem.

  • Images in FCP X 10.0.8 - blurry on full screen playback

I'm trying to create a documentary of around 30 mins using both photos (Ken Burns effect) and video clips.  Settings are as follows:
I have around about 580 photos all cropped in PS6 to 1700 x 900 px.  Won't be using many of them but have them imported just in case.  The video clips show beautifully on full screen preview, however, the photos are blurred and jagged.  When I tap the space bar and freeze the image, however, they preview just fine.  I have only created around 6 mins at this stage so I tried making a DVD of that portion and there was no problem with the photos showing sharply as they should.  This is rather discerting to say the least and I am a little hesitant to continue until I get some professional advice.  Is this a problem with something I have or have not done in cropping/resizing the images (they are all around about 5 mbs and many taken from CR2 files) or is this a problem with this version of FCP X 10.0.8?  Has anybody else experienced this problem?  And since the 6 mins rendered and created a final DVD without any problem should I just proceed as is?  Finally, I am using a MacBook Pro 15in - now 2 years old if that should make any difference.
    Thanking you,

Thank you so very, very much. Changing that preference solved the problem.  What a relief.
