Full Screen through S-Video

I have my DVR hooked up to my HDTV by an HDMI cord but through an S-Video cord to my DVD Recorder.  The picture is full screen when watched through the HDMI input but when I watch through the DVD Recorder, the picture has black bars at the top and bottom.  The guide and such is full screen.  Is there any setting on the box I can change to fix that?

S-Video is an SD output, not HD. It will only be the right size it you are viewing an SD channel. All HD channels will be be downsized.

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • 7.4 changed my full screen view of videos

I updated to iTunes 7.4 this morning after realizing most of the new features are useless to me who has no iPod or iPhone, but I did see mention of full screen support (and couldn't remember if that was new or not.)
I played a couple of videos going from command-0 to command-3 and then command-F and back again, getting inconsistent results (ending up with command-F giving me a small video view in an entirely black background.
Not only that, the thumbnail for one of my videos, changed from its former image to a solid green screen, (although the video still plays when clicked on.)
I went back to my daughter's PC with iTunes 7.3.2.6 and noted that I have complete control of the same videos from the command-0 setting all the way to command-F (full screen view) and back and forth without weirdness.
Anyone else note similar quirks with 7.4 full screen support?

Well, I have solved part of my problem - in Preferences>Playback, I changed "Play movies and TV shows" and "Play music videos" to "in a separate window" and the sizing issue seems to have settled down. Command-F seems to have a toggle action.
Choosing Command-0, command-1, command-2, command-3 steps up from smallest size to "fit to screen" size and then command-F takes you to full screen mode. but hitting command-F again then takes you back to "double size (command-2) although the menu shows View>Fit to screen command-3 as selected. Weird.
Choosing one of the other selections, say double size (command-2) repeatedly just sets that size on the first attempt and then on later repeats of command-2 it just flashed the "View" menu item without toggling to another size (and continues to display View>Double size command-2 as it should.
So the remaining question I guess is how to get my thumbnail view back from the green screen. How is that image selected anyway? It doesn't appear to be the first frame of the video necessarily.
And here I am back later editing this after reading the iTunes Help stuff. I fixed this by control-clicking on the frame I liked and then selecting "Set Poster Frame" from the dropdown.
So overall, not much to complain about other than the weirdness with video sizing and command-F

  • Everytime i go 'full screen' with a video, a red F pops up in the bottom toolbar (by windows flag) then dissapears when I exit...?

I was watching a YouTube video and as I pressed the button to go full screen I saw a square pop up in the bottom taskbar, like where the internet explorer and spotify icons are at the bottom of my screen, by the Windows start button. When I exited the video it dissapeared, so it was only up when i was full screen, it was never up there long enough for me to click on it. It was all red except for an italic f, which was white. After I watched a couple more videos, an actual pop up...popped up and said it had a X and said that windows had some kind of run time issue. I x-ed out of that, did'nt press OK.
I had read some things about the McAffee Security Scan Plus (which had installed with my adobe, just reinstalled it today....actually just got firefox today too-google chrome had not been working right for a while) and I decided to un-install that and it didn't stop the problem. I am wondering if this is something I should worry about? I'm not sure what it is and it has never appeared before. Please help!

  • Full screen from embedded video

I would like to watch a live stream that is embedded on a webpage. Is there a way to get it to play full screen in Quicktime? If it wasn't live I know I could just save it and then run it on QT stand-alone, but what about if it's live?
    Thanks

You can't view a embedded video full screen. Reason is, the one who coded the video in the html set the way the video will appear.
The only way to video the video full screen is to copy the URL for the live stream. Paste that URL into the Quicktime Player.

  • Full screen on streaming videos

I cannot view full screen of any streaming videos. Like when
I go to youtube and click full screen, the screen goes all black.
Its going full screen, but the actual PICTURE is not coming. I've
already tried reinstalling Flash player...its not only with
youtube, but google videos, veoh, todou, and all of the other
websites. Offline, I can go full screen no problem. Help would be
    awsome!

What video card/graphics card does your computer use? If NVIDIA GeForce, then that is within 99.999% certainty your issue here.
There is a known serious issue specifically with Premiere Elements 10 on a computer that uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card.
The answer has been to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. This specific issue has not been reported for Premiere Elements 11, 12, or 13/NVIDIA GeForce.
Please refer to Announcement on this at the top of this forum. Also, see
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE10: NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If your computer is not Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, then you should be able to find the older driver at
NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Advanced Search
If your computer is Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, the fix is not going to be possible since the available NVIDIA GeForce
driver versions do not go back far enough.
So, before all else, please determine if this issue applies to you and then we can decide what next if it does not.
If any questions or need clarification on the above, please do not hesitate to ask.

  • Full screen movie on video output

Hi. I don't know if someone has addressed this question already. But I sure as **** could not find it. I hooked up my Philips 32" digital widescreen flat TV to my iMac 20" via HDMI cable. Everything works fine, except i'm trying to project a movie on the TV while the computer monitor is still doing something else, such as working on photoshop. I've tried several things like drag the movie window onto the TV screen and full screening it on there, but it would show up as a full screen on my computer monitor. I also tried full screening the window on my computer monitor and then dragging the window to the TV monitor with spaces. This method almost works but I am still able to see parts of my desktop when i do this. Is there a way or a program i can download so that i can play a movie on the TV monitor in full screen and work on other programs in the computer monitor??
Any help would be appreciated!! THANKS!!

FYI, this is the discussion area for the iMac G5. If you have an iMac (Intel) it is not a G5. You should post your question in the Intel-based iMac discussion areas.

I didn't mean you should use QuickTime. I figured VLC Player would have similar settings in its preferences and that it would have a +full screen+ command.
For QuickTime, if you go to System Preferences QuickTime pane Update tab, and click on the Install button, it brings up a web page with available QuickTime components.

  • How do I switch to full screen when watcing videos on Yahoo plus7

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S2 4G. The full screen button as well as pause, volume etc, doesn't work! It works when using the Opera Mobile Web browser, so why not with Mozilla? Any suggestions?

I am one of the individuals who use a third-party app to tether internet connection from my phone for my tablet. When using the stock browser, i have no problems, but when i try to use firefox, all the is displayed is an "Offline Mode" screen. This all would not be a problem except for the fact that a bunch of my bookmarks are on Firefox. So how do i switch settings for the pade to be "Online vs. Offline"???

  • No Full Screen through Keynote on iPad connected to a tv

When I connect my iPad to the tv for a keynote presentation via the apple av/component cable the presentation does not fill the screen but is in the center leaving large black spaces on the sides of the slide. Is there a way to change this?

Problem still exists in iOS 8.0.2 on iPad Air. Black space all the way around he slides in 16:9 and even 4:3 has black space top and bottom In addition to the space left and right.
Is there no way to scale the slides up to 1080p? Is this a bug?

  • Viewing a video on full screen using multipule displays

Well, i run two monitors. my primary is a LG and i extend my desktop too a secondary amtranas monitor. the LG one is high def wide screen and my secondary amtranas one is just a regular 4:3 Monitor which i use as a tv..
what i want to do is watch video's on the secondary monitor in full screen through itunes and still be able to do work on the primary monitor. but when i go in full screen mode on the secondary monitor using itunes... it blacks out my primary one too.
is their a way too tell itunes too only play video's on one screen and not black out the others? i dont think its a nvidia setting, cause itunes is the only program that does this. so far the only way i can counter this is just too watch the video in a window..
    any help would be appreciated

    Bump
I am also having this same problem. I usually like to game and have my visualizer on the screen but it turns my primary moniter black too. Could someone please help us out.

  • Unable to watch videos full screen

I used to be able to watch videos on my computer through itunes full screen, but lately when I put any video onto full screen, the entire screen is black and the video plays at actual size in the center. Is the new version broken, or is there something wrong with my computer? I am able to watch the videos full screen through quicktime.

I am still having this problem. I was hoping that the newest version of itunes would fix everything, but after downloading it this morning, it still plays my videos at normal ratio in full screen mode. Any suggestions of what I can do, or what happened to make it like this in the first place? Thanks.
