Full screen toggling in Mail App

I keep Mail open all the time as I am working between that and other Apps pretty much all day. When composing a message I have discovered that in full screen mode you cannot toggle between the open message and the main Mail window.
Having it in full screen mode and being able to swipe to access it is great. However, I generally will be working on one email, referencing back to other emails and also maybe checking mail that is coming in, especially if it is an ongoing conversation (I generally get 80 - 100 emails a day that are work related). All of this is impossible in full-screen mode, rendering pretty useless from a professional work-related point of view.

Fully agreed with your assessment.
One work around  is to not be in full screen,  in MissionControl drag the open mail to it's own desktop (upper right + sign) and with the green button fill the screen ( or drag the edges.)
In this condition you can have access to a new mail composition and reference the mailboxes and still swipe between full screen apps or Desktops.

How do I see a photo full screen in photoshop elements app?  From what I can tell, I can't see a photo full screen in iphoto. I need full screen!

A file with a .PSA extension is most probably a catalog file from an older version of Elements (up to PSE5). To be able to use it with a newer version (including PSE12), you'll have to convert the catalog to the new format. In the organizer, open the 'File' menu, select the catalog manager (shift Ctrl C) and click the convert button, browse to the .psa file. Your catalog will be converted to the new format.

  • Unable to exit full screen mode from any app

    Hi,
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion today and I noticed something wrong. In Lion I used to be able to exit full screen mode from any app by pressing esc or clicking the exit full screen mode button on the top right corner of the screen. Now neither of those seem to work, in fact the menu bar doesn't even come up when I get the cursor to the top of the screen. Tried this on many apps, some system apps, always the same. The only way I found that works is pressing fn + ctrl + F2 (or ctrl + F2 depending on the function keys setting).
I checked the console and found this message appears whenever I go into full screen
WindowServer[79]: CGXRegisterWindowWithSystemStatusBar: window 10 already registered
    Anyone having the same issue?
    Any solutions found?

Processor  2,8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8 (12A269)

    Thanks for replying so fast.
I tried a couple more times and now the esc key method seems to be working, maybe it the cursor focus had something to do with it not working earlier.
But I still can't get the menu bar to drop down when I get to the top of the screen.
Did a PRAM reset, but no cigar.
Do you mean reinstalling over the current installation or installing fresh and recovering from a time machine backup?
In any case I think I'll wait a little bit more before I do any of that, it really bothers me to have to reinstall the whole system to fix something as insignificant as this. It's still a little annoying though.

  • No full-screen toggle on quicktime player since going from 10.6snowleopard to mavericks10.9. What to do?

No full-screen toggle on quicktime player since going from 10.6snowleopard to mavericks10.9. What to do?

Which version of QuickTime Player are you referencing? 7.7.6 or 10.3?
In 10.3 the on screen icon appears in the upper right corner to move to full screen.
In 7.7.6 there is no on screen icon for full screen unless you're in "presentation mode". Presentation mode uses a different set of controls that "float" atop the playback.
The standard shortcut for 7.6.6 to enter full screen playback is command-f keys.

  • Get out of full screen in Apple Mail

I pressed the two little arrows in upper right of Apple Mail screen.
That took me to full screen view.
Double arrows have disappeared. I cannot get them back to return Mail screen to normal size.
I have tried command Control F and command Control Z. neither works.

    Hello.
Move your mouse to the top right corner and the menu bar should appear. Now click the blue double arrow to leave full screen mode.
    Edit: "Ctrl-Cmd-F" should work aswell.

  • Keeping Keynote Full Screen while Using Other Apps

    Hello,
I searched around and wasn't able to find much of anything on this topic anywhere. I am looking to do Keynote presentations in full screen. While the presentation is in full screen I would like to use other applications on the display which I can see.
I activated the preference to allow other things like Expose control the screen, but when I switch applications it takes Keynote out of full screen mode. Anybody have any ideas as to how to keep it in full screen mode while in a different application? Thanks.

Depending on how you have your displays arranged, you might be able to use Dashboard on your presenter display while the presentation is running (you may need to use this technique to get that to work properly). However, as I understand it, applications do not come with the ability to float over Keynote by default, but must be explicitly written to do so. I therefore doubt that any off-the-shelf app will be useable directly in this way.

  • Full Screen Safari in Single App mode

I'm trying to configure some ipads for use as web kiosks.  I can set Safari to single app mode and to only allow the one website we want used, but it still shows the bookmarks, share, new tab, and other buttons, along with the address bar, at the top.  I also tried configuring a web clip for the site, and setting the web clip to full screen mode.  That worked to get rid of the address bar etc, but if safari is in single app mode I can't launch the web clip, and if it's not in single app mode, the web clip works but other apps are also available.
How can I get Safari locked down to single app mode and showing the website in full screen only?
    Thanks!

  • Running flash full screen while using other apps

I run a 3 monitor setup on Win7x64.  I would like to watch shows, eg Hulu, while working on other stuff on the other monitors.  Any time I switch focus to another program though it drops back down into the browser.  Is there a way to keep it running full screen while working with other programs?

  • OS X LION Issues with Full-Screen; iPhoto, Image Capture & Mail

    Hello,
I'm experiencing un-Apple-like issues (bugs) with Lion in Full-Screen mode.
For example - iPhoto doesn't seem to like Full-Screen mode. If iPhoto is open and I connect a camera, for which I prefer Image Capture to retrieve my pics... Image Capture opens 'behind' the full-screen iPhoto, but I can't get to it. Image Capture shows as open on the menu bar in iPhoto's full-screen mode. If I go to the desktop (where it should be opening) Image Capture isn't 'on top' and clicking it takes me back to iPhoto full-screen
Similarly, if I get mail and return to the desktop (the only way to see the dock) and I click on the 'Mail' app icon - I am catapulted into Image Capture... or iPhoto. Returning to the Desktop to click the Mail icon from the dock... takes me to Image Capture... or iPhoto. The 3rd try takes me to the Mail.app which is usually always open and in full-screen mode.
While I'm complaining about bugs, I'd like to mention that I am fully dismayed by the loss of control in full-screen mode when using apps such as Mail or iPhoto. The Mail app opens an email to edit (such as a reply) but you can't access any other mail docs to 'cut and paste' info from. I can only click SEND or CANCEL.
What if I don't want to CANCEL? I just want to go to another email and cut a piece to paste.. I have to exit full-screen mode which allows me to open two email documents at once, then cut and paste. Essentially Mail in Full-Screen is only a reader... not a work area. I can only access the document I have open, since it greys out the Message Viewer. You can't click on the message viewer nor access any of the features of Mail.app. You can only write your email and either Cancel or Send. Where is the 'hold on a second while I go cut and paste'? I don't want to cancel.
Can't seem to use Safari since I'm constantly three-finger swiping it away. My cursor hovers over a text field and suddenly it's zooming in and locks text input. I have to iPhone-like swipe to expand to exit this inadvertent partial (very slight) zoom. Sometimes the zoom is so partial that I can't figure out what's going on until I just exit full-screen mode, close the window and start over.
Seems like I'm starting over and over and over... just to do simple things. Inadvertent zooming, inadvertent 3-finger returning to Desktop, inadvertent changing apps... ugh.
I'm willing to let go of the old and embrace the new future but so far it's been pretty uncomfortable for me to constantly monitor my overly sensitive trackpad gesturing combined with constant bugs and glitches. I'll save complaining about iPhoto's over-simplification (apparently for dummies) like the new Edit menu, Export menu, etc.. since it's more iLife than Lion related. Rate Lion: 2 out of 5 stars for ease of use & features complicated by unrefined software issues.

I've tried follwoing these instructions but I have an issue with
    # Create snort user. The intention is to let user snort have access only to the snort database.
    $ sudo createuser -U _postgres -P snort
    Password:
    Enter password for new role:
    Enter it again:
Shall the new role be a superuser? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create databases? (y/n) n
Shall the new role be allowed to create more new roles? (y/n) n
It keeps telling me "could not connect to database postgres: could not connect to server: No such file or directory"
I'm running OSX Mountain Lion, and have verified using serveradmin status postgres that it is up and running.

  • Full Screen in Mail

Somehow I got in full screen in Mail and can't revert back to other. How do I get back to where I was? When I'm in full screen I can't access other functions.

If its menubar does not appear when you move the cursor to the top of your monitor, revealing the blue "full screen" toggle, try the key combination for the menu command: ^⌘F (control command eff)
If that doesn't work then quit Mail. If you can't get to its menubar you may have to force quit Mail.

  • Dock won't appear when app in full screen

Installed Mavericks on a 2011 Mac Mini - first strange bug - Dock (I have it across the bottom) will not appear when the app is in Full Screen (Safari and Mail both act this way) - Take it out of full screen, and dock pops up like normal.  Bug?

Revealing the Dock while in a full-screen app requires not only moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen, but keeping your finger on it or moving the cursor along the bottom edge (or other "tricks") to reveal the Dock.
    SUPER ANNOYING TO ME
Many users may like that way of operation, perhaps a great majority. But hundreds of thousands may find it annoying to have this cognitive pause imposed and would rather have the dock appear accidently once in a while when moving the cursor close to the bottom area of the display.
    This worked before Mavericks:
Setting the Dock autohide delay to zero (in Terminal, with write defaults...) removed this annoyance. As soon as your cursor's at the bottom of the screen, the Dock's there.
In Mavericks: Nothing to do! (so far)
APPLE: "You" make WRONG design decisions, "you" make professional users spend dozens of hours investigating how to tweak basic features behind the scenes. And THEN, "you" quietly invalidate those changes. Please, the best design decision that "you" could make is to give the user more choice. Please, give us a section in Preferences where these things may be changed. The religious dumbing down of the interface in favour of supposedly clean esthetics is plain WRONG.
It is also quite unacceptable that APPLE does read these pages but never responds.

  • Using Win 10 there is a need for an app to determine the full device display area and aspect ratio programitically; the dimensions are needed to create full-screen bitmap.

While Windows.Current.Bounds returns the application windows size, in order to create a full-screen bitmap my app would need to retrieve the full display area  of the device. I cannot even get the aspect ratio.
Pre-Win10, using Windows.Current.Bounds I can create a bitmap of whatever size application window the user is seeing. When the user is showing my app at full screen, I can therefore get the full display area and aspect ratio of the device and create a full-screen
    bitmap.
With Win10, the user would need to know to hide the taskbar and also display at full-screen before an app can retrieve the display area and aspect ratio using Windows.Current.Bounds.
Before Win10 it's obvious to the user that full-screen is or is not being used. When I create the bitmap, I create it to fit the application window. When the app is displayed full screen, the bitmap will be full screen. Also, the app starts full-screen so
I can detect the display area at startup if I need to.
With Win10, to the user the app "looks like" it is full screen with the taskbar displayed even though it's not really full screen.
I believe that in Win10 determining the full display area will be useful and not just retrieving the application window size.

Rob, Is this forum best way to get my suggestion to the development team?
Before Win10 it's obvious to the user that full-screen is or is not being used. When I create the bitmap, I create it to fit the application window. When the app is displayed full screen, the bitmap will be full screen. Also, the app starts full-screen

With Win10, to the user the app "looks like" it is full screen with the taskbar displayed even though it's not really full screen.
Yes, Windows.Current.Bounds does work the same, but I believe that in Win10 determining the full display area will be useful and not just the application window.

  • Odd behavior during full screen video chat with Mountain Lion Messages?

I've recently upgraded to Mountain Lion on two MacBook Pros (from Lion) and have started to use the new Messages app. I've been using iChat for years and found it reliable for the most part.
However, I've noticed a new behavior that seems like a bug in the new Messages app.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open Messages app
    2. Initiate a non-FaceTime video chat via the Buddy List or the main Messages window video button
    3. Once the video is started, click on the Full Screen button in the window title bar or in the black toolbar at the bottom of the video
    4. After the video has gone full screen, move the mouse cursor
    5. At this point, the video will slide over (like a Mission Control / Exposé space). The video chat is actually STILL running in full screen view as a dedicated space -- you can slide back with the trackpad or the keyboard as per normal Mission Control controls.
Step 5 is NOT the correct behavior as per OS X 10.7 Lion. Not to mention, the black toolbar is unusable and it's hard to reach the menu bar Full Screen toggle button since moving the cursor even one pixel makes the screen slide over.
Has anyone experienced this? If yes, is there a solution? How do we bring this to Apple's attention for a future fix?

I got the machine to reboot but I had to hold down the power button. I found an article on macworld that said to use the command +control+eject buttons to restart but no go. Nothing.
There really... REALLY ought to be some way to exit full screen in such a case.
