Full screen video cover on Retina and SD iPad? Do I need to make separate HD and SD versions?

Hi guys,
I like using after effects to bring my covers to life, however, I've found that when I render the video in 2048 x 1536 then it errors and doesn't play on a standard resolution iPad. As a result I have to create an SD and an HD folio and watermark them so the user can tell the difference in the app.
Is there a better, more streamlined way to do this without rendering the video at it's sub-retina resolution? Cheers

Your problem is that the program wants a good video card and a fast hard drive and lots of memory and you have none of the above. If you upgraded the RAM to 8 gigs and installed a solid state hard drive you might make the program useable but the real bottleneck  is going to be the Intel HD graphics, which cannot be upgraded.
You do have an open slot to add one 4 gig memory module. This is an easy relatively inexpensive upgrade. See here:

I would try this a step at a time. Next would be the solid state drive. That would cost maybe $150. Post back if you need more help.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13" fan very loud/overheats when playing full screen video/games

    Hi,
Just purchased a MacBook Pro Retina, refurbished (because why not - the same product for a cheaper price) around a month ago. It's the 13 inch and is the model before the most recent one came out (4GB of RAM instead of 8GB - late 2013). From the very first day, playing a full-screen video on any site (be it YouTube, Facebook, etc) just makes the fan much louder than usual (so loud that you can almost hear it more over the video itself). Thought it may have been just a thing with Flash Player being buggy, but the problem has persisted for a while now. I'm not even pushing the CPU to any limits - literally playing a full-screen video on Facebook (not even in HD) makes the fan go crazy.
Just last night I tried installing Borderlands 2 and it was the same thing - FPS rate was fine, no lag, just the fan was so loud that I actually got scared for my computer and turned it off. After closing the app and checking out the fan temperature, it was at 91c.
Never happens when browsing/surfing or doing my usual work.
Should I go give it back to Apple? The thing is I start university in less than a week (and hence will be traveling), so not sure if I can afford to give my laptop in to them for a long period of time (I know it should be free though since mine is a refurb item). May it just be an issue that is quickly repairable or is this worse?

During processor intensive activities—such as processing HD video or playing a game that makes extensive use of the graphics processor—the    fans speed up to provide additional airflow.

  • My MacBook is brand new, shy of a month and I don't understand why it was recently started to lag whilst watching full screen videos on youtube? Somebody help me please...

Somebody help.. I don't get what's going on. This didn't happen in the beginning, it was completely fine with watching full screen videos, but now it seems to "glitch" now and then and appear slow and laggy. whattttt

If the computer seems normal except for watching youtube the problem is probably between you and your ISP or between the ISP and youtube. If your computer seems slow no matter what you are doing try restarting your computer and see if that helps. (If so pay attention to your Page Outs in the Activity Monitor and also how much free space your hard drive has.)

  • T42 Vista and Full screen video

How can I enjoy full screen video when viewing videos from myspace, youtube and so on I get no full screen support how can this be done?

If there are other applications for wich you might use flash, you should keep flashplugin installed.  You can use /etc/chromium/default to append some flags to tell chromium to use the pepper-flash plugin instead.   In fact, I think that the chromium-pepper-flash package might actually do this for you in the install scripts.

  • Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 Vista 32bit video driver (NVidia) full screen video problem

Hi, would appreciate an update from Lenovo about this.
The NVidia VGA driver just displays a blank screen when playing video in full screen mode when hardware acceleration is turned on (the default setting). Obviously it's a pain to turn off the hardware acceleration just to get full screen video working.
There is a generic version of the driver available from Nvidia but they advise not to use it as the oem versions are apparently modified for features like turning the screen off when the lid is closed. Maybe someone's tried the generic NVidia driver and can let me know if it's worth a go. Ideally it would be nice to hear if Lenovo are aware of the problem and are going to release an update.
    Thanks

  • Mini-DVI to DVI - 1920x1080 full-screen video

Just bought a mini-DVI to DVI adapter to hook up my Mid-2006 MacBook to my Acer H223H 23" LCD screen. It works fabulously as expected, except when I try to watch full-screen video on the Acer LCD at 1920x1080. What's strange is that when I'm watching video in a window (using VLC), I can increase the size of the window until it almost takes up the whole screen, but then any further than that causes noticeable jerkiness (a lot of dropped frames) in the video playback. Any ideas what's going on here?
I hope this is the right forum for this and thanks in advance for helping me out!

Posted too soon before fully exploring the situation. A little more context: I'm running a fresh install of Snow Leopard.
I used the mini-DVI to DVI adapter and my LCD to hook up my girlfriend's laptop (MacBook running Leopard). Full screen video in VLC plays no problem (even used the same file). Also, I tried playing a DVD on my MacBook and it ran flawlessly. Clearly the issue is VLC's compatibility with Snow Leopard.
Thanks anyway - glad to know this community is here if I have any other issues.

  • Full Screen Videos in iTunes Don't Work in Leopard

    Hi,
I've upgraded my MacBook Pro from Tiger to Leopard and I do have a registered Quicktime Pro 7 license. The QuickTime tab shows me that it's a Pro version. However, if I am trying to play full screen videos in iTunes I just see the mini video in the screen center. Any idea how I can fix this?

I have recently relocated to Australia & have since updated my itunes account with an Australain address.
The issue is your credit or debit card. They must be associated with the same country in which you reside.
"Although you can browse the iTunes Store in any country without being signed in, you can only purchase content from the iTunes Store for your own country. This is enforced via the billing address associated with your credit card or other payment method that you use with the iTunes Store. You can use the iTunes Store in all countries of which you’re a resident, but you’ll either need a separate iTunes Store account for each one, or you’ll need to continually be switching your billing information on your single account. Generally, it’s simpler just to set up an alternative account for these situations."

  • Bug? Menu Bar Not Accessible in Safari After Watching Full Screen Video

    Hi everyone,
I have had this Not accessible menu bar problem time to time while using Safari, and I finally figured out what caused it. It always happens right after you go to a full screen video mode, and then get back out, and now when you move the mouse curser to the top, menu bar doesn't show. Then a way to fix is by using the 4 finger gesture to go back to the desktop screen, and come back to safari (not too fast) and menu bar is again accessible. Why is apple not fixing this bugs? I have seen more thread about menu bar gone, so it's not just me.

    QuickTimeKirk wrote:
Hit the escape key to exit full screen.
That may be a "works as expected/designed," but once you've exited Full Screen View, then reenter Full Screen View and play a video in full screen mode, the window switches out of Full Screen to display the video in full screen video mode. It doesn't stay in Full Screen view, like it is the first time around.
    EDIT:
Esc exits full screen video mode, but you still cannot access the slide-out menu bar with the button. Repeatedly pressing Esc does not exit Full Screen View, either. This only appears on the first invocation of Full Screen view and video mode. Once you exit Full Screen, the window behaves differently.
Note that we have determined this is only affected by HTML5 video. I have to do some more testing to figure out if it is ClickToPlugin that is causing the issue.
What's a good source for straight HTML5 video?

  • Safari + Silverlight + Full screen = MBP suddenly shuts off and restarts

In the past few weeks, my MacBook Pro has unexpectedly shut off and then started back up three times. Each time it happened while I was watching full-screen Silverlight video in Safari (4.0.3) — twice on the Netflix website and once on the NBC Sports website.
The first time I had been watching the video for several minutes before it happened; I switched to a different computer to finish my movie.
The second time it happened as soon as I switched into full-screen. I watched the rest of the game in a window (i.e., not full-screen) without incident.
The third time happened after seven minutes of full-screen video. I switched over to Camino (1.6.9) and was able to watch the rest of my movie in full-screen without incident.
I've watched full-screen video in Safari many times before without problems, but the last three incidents have occurred the last three times I've done it (i.e., it now seems to be happening every time).
Each time, my MBP was connected to power, so I don't think it's a battery issue. Could it be an overheating issue? The fact that I was running the same software combination each time suggests to me that it's a software problem, but the symptom suggests hardware. Thoughts?

Update, As of today, they STILL haven't shipped me a new battery, they claim they are within their 5-7 business days limit still and that it might/should ship tomorrow.
I went into an Apple Moron Bar today and inquired about swapping one out in the store (they had plenty in stock) because the Applecare tech I spoke to said that it might be a faster option. The Apple 'tech' (seriously, he might be really good at ipods, but I doubt he knows how to turn on anything worth more than $300 with an apple logo on it, much less troubleshoot it) claimed he didn't have any batteries in stock.
"Excuse me, but you have a shelf full of them over there"
"I don't have any for replacement, you are welcome to buy another though or I can order one from Apple"
Great, so my MacDesk Pro is still without battery power.

  • Slow graphics performance - login screen, launchpad, full screen video all stutter

Since installing Mavericks, I've found that several system animations are slow/stutter. This is on a 2012 MacBook Air with maxed out hardware specs so its not b/c I'm running an old system.
    Some examples:
    - When booting up, right before I reach the login screen, the display quickly flashes blue. This leads me to believe something funky is going on with my graphics card/drivers
    - The login animation, where you click your username and it floats to the middle of the screen so you can type in your password, is very jerky, taking 2+ seconds to complete. Previously it had been fast and smooth
    - When using Launchpad, expanding folders often takes several seconds. The folder will start to expand, freeze, and then finally finish. This tends to be more of a problem for folders with 1 row of icons. Large folders oddly seem to expand ok / smoothly
    - Watching full screen video in iTunes causes the audio to stutter (the video playback is still smooth). If I make the window smaller, audio and video playback are smooth again
Is anyone else experiencing these kinds of graphics issues? Any idea whats going on or how to fix?

Quit Chrome and see whether there's any change. If not, see below.
    Step 1
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, andIdle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • 970 4G FPS drop for second screen when playing full screen video

    Hi,
I have two 1440p monitors connected to my graphcis card using DVI connectors.
Whenever I play a full screen video on the secondary screen, I was always get an FPS drop. It doesn't matter if I switch the cables around to make the other one the secondary screen.
I have tried replacing the monitors and the same thing happens and I can only conclude it must be the graphics card.
Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this problem?

    1) I'm not familiar with this concept. Why would switching port type provide more bandwidth?
    2) Also, the card I'm referencing only has 1 display port connection. Would using one dvi and one display port cable work?
    1) Google for "dvi", "hdmi" & "displayport" and you'll find out why.
    2) use DisplayPort + dual-link DVI (always suggested by Nvidia)

  • Run full screen video with GarageBand

    Good evening.
I have a question about using GaraBand with full screen video.
I'm creating a movie using Final Cut Pro (which's new for me) and creating a music track in Garageband.
I will like to have GarageBand to play the music in one track, using an interface I will send a click to the drumer but also ( and this is part of my question), I need to have GaraBand to play the sync movie I created, on a video beam running in full screen.
The goal is to manage the application in my laptop but the people should not see the application or anything on my desktop, they should be able to see just the video after I hit play.
So, is there a way to have GarageBand to send a clik to the drummer mintor, play the sound track and do split monitor on a video beam that should show just the full screen movie and not my desktop?
I will really appreciate any suggestion about this.
Note: I have Logic Pro 8 too, in case logic supports it.

Thank you for taking a look into this question Chris.
This is the very first time I'm trying to do this type of presentations and I'm not sure if there is a way or another application to run a music track with a click only for monitoring of the drummer (which GB does) and at the same time run the video which was edited to by synchronized with the audio the musicians will play.
I can see the the movie preview window and make it larger, the problem is that it will not pay in full screen  move on a video beam.
I'm starting to feel that with GB it is not possible.

  • 1/4 screen playback with full screen video?

I apologize if this has been addressed before, a search of the first 50 pages as well as the Search Forum didn't turn up anything on this.
When attempting to play back full screen video (720x480 or 640x480) the upper left quarter of the window displays that portion of the video, but the other three quadrants are black. I have this on several different XP computers.
How do I get all four quadrants to display the video in XP, like it works on the Mac?

  • Full-screen videos on iWeb?

    Hello,
Forgive the redundancy of this question -- I know it's been discussed in other threads, but my precise question hasn't been answered, so I thought I'd try fresh here.
Basically, I have a ~650MB Quicktime video, 24 minutes long, that I want to upload to my website. My site is hosted by a third-party host (GoDaddy), but I'd prefer to use iWeb to do the work of page-building because I'm a novice,
The video is an iPhoto slideshow, with music, that I created and then exported to QT. It exists as both a .m4v and a .mov file now. When I watch it full-screen -- either iMac, MacBook, or even large-screen TV -- it looks great, perfect resolution. (Not sure if it's HD -- I think that's irrelevant.) What I want is to upload this file in a way that any visitor to my website can view it in the same way that I do, and at the same quality level. I.e., I want them to be able to make it full-screen with just a click, and to have it be as sharp as it is when I watch. Since it's a QT file, I figure this should be possible, but I'm struggling to find a way to do it, and the folks at AppleCare didn't have a solution.
Anyone here have any thoughts? I'm grateful for all the advice you've already shared on this and related topics.
    Thanks,
    Jesse

Thanks, Roddy. I'd seen that thread and didn't follow it at first because it appeared to require QTP, which I don't have. But I see he had another suggestion (.qtl) that doesn't require QTP. I'm a total novice when it comes to writing code, so I'm going to keep searching around. Or, if someone doesn't mind explaining a little more exactly how you make a .qtl file for a movie, I'd be grateful.

  • When viewing full screen video in netflix watch instantly, the picture freezes while the audio continues streaming

When watching full screen video in firefox the picture freezes and the audio continues streaming. I had at first thought this was limited to netflix but now see the same problem when viewing flash video sites. Once the picture freezes the computer has to be rebooted. This only happens in firefox. Explorer streams perfectly in fullscreen. The problem began after updating to firefox 3.6 as I had no problems prior to that.

For some reason the plugin container is causing some wierd stuff. I didn't know you could have more than one instance of task manager open. while this bug occurred, I had 15 task managers open. So somehow this plugin container is doing soemthing funky with the windows system. I'm the same poster as the last 2 post
    Hope this helps the troubleshooting.
