Full screen vs. desktop

I like to use my photos as desktop images and I expect that the way I see them full screen in Aperture is the way I see them on my desktop. This is however not the case. The picture are on the desktop much darker. I have a custom profile for my screen created using Supercal. I switched the proofing profile to these Supercal settings and switched proofing profile off alltogether, but Aperture and the Desktop remain wide apart.
How can that be?

Refreshing the previews did not work unfortunately, but I feel there is some logic in both of your suggestions, for which I want to thank you by the way. Probably the desktop image is not the original RAW picture and that is one way or the other the reason that the desktop looks different. Nevertheless I find it strange and I'm not happy with it.
Oh yes, I did not quite follow the 'hardware callibration'. Is there a difference?

  • Exiting full screen shows desktop for a second

    Hi all,
Just installed Mountain Lion, and all is fine, except for maybe one thing.  If I'm editing a picture in full-screen (not the "full-screen" for the entire application, but the full-screen of the picture (by hitting the "F" key)), when I exit that mode (by hitting "F" again), for a second, I see my desktop.
A bit weird.  Any ideas about this?
    Thanks.

Just for clarity, "f" issues the command "View➞Fullscreen".  That command makes the Aperture application "full-screen" as defined by the OS.  There is not (and has not been since at least 3.0, when I started using Aperture) any Viewer or Browser or Project View mode that is "full-screen".  There is one and only one full-screen mode, and that is for the entire app.  (In fact, you can enter full-screen mode from the Browser, the Viewer, Split View, or Projects View.  There is no default Split View in full-screen mode, but if you enter full-screen mode from Split View, and immediately exit full-screen mode, you will be returned to Split View.
And a bonus for turbidity: I am not seeing my Desktop when entering or exiting Aperture's full-screen mode.  3.3.2 on 10.8.  I see a sliding-application-window transition.  The area outside the application window is black.

  • Remote desktop full screen mode not going full screen

    Hi,
Running Windows 7 RTM x64 on both my PC at home and my workstation at work.
My PC at home has a square monitor and my work PC has a widescreen monitor.
I used webapps (citrix) from home to get into work environment then remoted to my workstation.
Since doing that, when I am physically at the workstation (at work), I can no longer remote desktop to servers in full screen mode.  Instead, it does a smaller window with "full screen settings".  Basically the full screen remote desktop is about 3/4 size of the monitor, not 100%.
    Any help appreciated.
    -thanks

I  have this problem too ... On Windows 7.
    Dell XPS14 laptop ... No Pause Key ... No Break Key... (ctrl +alt + fn + F12) doesn't work.
The thing that bugs me most is ..... What's
    changed and WHY?
I've been using remote desktop for years and maximizing always used to send it to full screen.
Now suddenly I can't go to full screen without exiting and resetting the screen size with the slide bar in the options!
    WHY
Seems this has been broken in Windows 7. It still works fine as it used to on my old M65 running Vista.
    Why has
this been broken in Windows 7? How come no one at MS noticed?
The marked answer is not acceptable. Sure it works when you initially open the connection but if
you minimize or restore the window the problem comes back as before.
Hi, I'm on a Dell Inspiron N5010 and for me, the winning combination was Ctrl-Alt-Fn-F6. Toggles full screen and windowed screen.

  • Application no longer assignable to a desktop in Spaces. Useable only in full screen, can't access it when not in full screen.

This is a repost to correctly ID this as a Spaces issue. I am using a MacBook Pro with a second monitor in extended desktop. I put iMovie in full screen and when I put it back, it disappeared off of both desktops. I can see it in Spaces and I can use it in full screen. However, it is not available when not in full screen. When I drag and drop it in Spaces to a desktop, it animates off of the top of the screen versus landing on that desktop. I have tried to change the application assignment by right clicking on the iMovie Icon > Options > Assign To, but it affects nothing. I have rebooted both with the external monitor and without, I have uninstalled and reinstalled iMovie and I have tried many combinations of screen resolutions and it is still assigned somewhere other than a desktop. It appears to no longer be associated with or assignable to a desktop. Anyone have any ideas?

Can you access iMovie without being in fullscreen when you do not have an external monitor connected? I cannot. No matter the monitor configuration, it is only accessible in full screen for me.
I agree - it is for sure a bug.

  • Show desktop no longer works in Quick Look Full Screen view

Is anyone besides myself missing this functionality in Lion? Previously in Snow Leopard, you could be looking at a full screen slideshow in Quick View (by doing cmd+A and hitting the space bar then the full screen arrows) and at any time you were able to do a gesture swipe in order to show the desktop (or you could use a hot corner or keyboard shortcut) and then swipe back down to restore the full screen photo or slideshow. This function is now either broken or just ommitted all together for some reason.
I just can't figure out what logic there was in removing this feature. Anybody care to guess ?
    Doug

    Hi,
I had the same problem (the "show desktop" function didn't work in the corner, nor after pressing the keyboard button) and I found no real fix even after an extensive research, including a restart, permission repair, deleting some files/cache from the Library folder and so. THAN I discovered a function in Onyx which turns the "Mission Control" on and off. It was off (unchecked) in my case, so I checked it on and voilà, all of sudden the "Show desktop" function works again! Hot corners as well!
In Onyx -> Parameters -> Mission Control -> Turn on Mission Control.
    Hope it helps!
Happy New Year to you all!

  • How do I use dual displays to have a full screen app on one monitor and another full screen app or the desktop on the other?

How do I use dual displays to have a full screen app on one monitor and another full screen app or the desktop on the other?
I want to have my itunes visualizer on my TV which is connected via HDMI adapter, and still have access to full screen itunes and my desktop on the main display.
Any suggestions?  App downloads that can do this?  Please let me know.

You can't do it.  This has been an issue since Lion.

  • Is there a way to set up multiple displays to show different DeskTops and/or multiple Full-Screen apps independently?

    Hello Apple users/ develpers.....
I have been thinking about this long and hard and it seems like there should be some way to display separate Full-Screen Apps and/or mulitple Desktops.
This would be a key feature that would make Lion surprisingly more efficient than any of its predicessors.  However, I have gone into System Preferences>Displays and could find no way to page through and get different desktops to display.  I always could extend the desktop, but why do that when I can simply use multiple Desktops and assign them to specific displays.
(For example While on the MacBook Pro I could be doing a project in FinalCut while External Display 1 could be displaying iTunes and Display number 2 could be displaying MS Word.  And between each I can switch between each app without changing the monitor display.)
I could also seeing this being extremely helpful in DJ and/or PowerPoint presentations.  In a PowerPoint presentation I could use the projector/display to show the individual Slides, while on the computer/laptop I could control other materials.
Or in a DJ situation, I could be controlling iTunes from the computer, displaying a set of animations that I created in Flash/ToonBoom or another animation program, while still being able to work off of an independent display to do my homework or major project.
The whole purpose of multiple displays would be to have multiple access to each of those.  And so if there's another APP I need to control them, or if there is a setup command I don't know about, I'd like to know right away.
Also, if Apple hasn't really implimented this (and their OS is designed to have these features) then I guess this'd be my first recomendation to them as something that they need to fix.  This alone could be the key to crippling PC.  Don't let Windows 8 have a back door!

Not available, why not suggest it here.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Not Going To Full Screen on EIZO MX340 Monitor 1536x2048 Resolution

I am using a EIZO Rx-340 as a secondary monitor. So far I am only able to get into full screen by using Ctrl-Alt-Fn-Pause but it does not change the resolution. It does not help to move the slider to large. There is a black space at the top and bottom
    of the display.

    Hi,
Please take a try with the steps below:
    1. Start "Remote Desktop Connection".
    2. Click on "Options".
    3. Click on the "Display" tab.
    4. On "Display configuration" settings, you can change the "Remote Desktop Connection" display by moving the slider from "Small to Large".
    5. By moving the "Slider" all the way to large, the display settings will automatically set to "Full Screen".
    Here is the screenshot:
Also please take a check if the monitor itself is configured well.
    Hope this may help

  • Can no longer put full screen apps to the left of 1st desktop in 10.9.3

    Hello All
I was a huge fan of the Spaces feature back in OS 10.5 Leopard, but conceded to the change with Mission Control replacing Expose.
I had a particular setup that I liked with the old expose, and had to change that due to Lion and ML not supporting it.
Then Mavericks came along and fixed it. Until 10.9.3.
My setup was having Mail on the left, main desktop in the middle, and iTunes on the right.
Sorry for the storytelling (bad habit), so does anyone know how to restore the ability to put a fullscreen app to the left of the first desktop in 10.9.3?
    Thanks,
    xeni

I just made Safari full screen, by click on the arrows in the upper right corner.
Did a 4 finger swipe up, to gain access to Mission Control.
Then dragged the Safari way over to the left.
So now I have a full screen Safari on the left, an empty desktop in the second position (labeled as Desktop 1), Desktop 2 in the 3rd position with Calendar opened, Desktop 3 with Mail and Desktop 4 with Notes, Stickies and Reminders.

    Hi Mary,
    I don't remember those arrows in 10.6, only 10.7 & up!?
I have 10.6.8, as you do. To make your Safari full screen, make sure you have the left hand side of your safari page moved  all the way to the left.  Then move your cursor to the BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER of the safari page, and simply drag your page towards the lower right hand corner of the screen. NOTE: you will see a series of lines on the bottom right corner of the page, indicating where to place you cursor arrow.

  • Remote desktop 8.0.14 (and prior) full screen RDweb session, screen pushed down by Mac Menu bar, mouse pointer on wrong position

    Hi
On Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, there is a clear bug on the Microsoft Remote desktop app when
    a) remoting into a Windows server that is set to display full screen
    b) when you are logging in using a RDweb server aka RDS 2012.
After logging in to the remote server, the full screen representation of the server desktop has the following issues:
    - The Mac Launchpad is still visible over the Windows desktop, making that part of the Windows desktop impossible to reach.
    - The published screen is pushed down about 15 pixels. It is pushed down by the Mac's menu that also remains visible.
When I directly remote into the same server using traditional direct RDP (Not via the RDweb, gateway setup) the screen positions correctly.
I guess: Somehow the Remote desktop app  (8.0.14) does not seem to get the message from the server that this is a full screen session? Is there some information that the connection Broker or Gateway is not passing allong to
    the client?
I have replicated this many times. It is the same whether I connect to a 2012 server or to a 2008 server.
    Bart

    Hi,
For a try you can use URI scheme for the specified desktop screen or full screen and check the result. You can refer the following article for information.
Remote Desktop Client URI Scheme Support
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn690096.aspx
Apart if you have RD Gateway setup then you can try the option for RD Gateway to uncheck “Bypass RD Gateway for Local address” and verify result.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Full Screen Problem - Dual Monitors - Hulu Desktop

I am using Hulu Desktop with dual monitors. I keep Hulu on full screen on monitor #2. I use monitor #1 for computer use, etc.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to look at an app in full screen mode on monitor #1 and keep my Hulu full screen in monitor #2 at the same time. So if Hulu is playing and I open up a full screen Mail.app...the hulu screen (mon. 2) just shows that grey background.
Apple NEEDS to add a way to make the #2 monitor immune to the spaces functionality. That or make a way so that an app can stay on top of ALL SCREENS not just user-created ones.
I have seen people suggest the, "Right click the app in the dock and choose all screens" but that ONLY works for user-created desktops. It won't make the app be full screen over Mail, iCal, Address book, etc when they make their own spaces window.
    Help! :-)\

    That's annoying, isn't it?
It's why I quit using iTunes in full screen.
I play my movies in VLC and "maximize" the window so I can keep working on the other display. I don't knwo of any other way aorund it.

  • Full screen applictions and extended desktop

I just got my 20" iMac and have connected a 19" LCD to it in extended desktop. My only problem is that when i run a full screen application (like WoW or Front Row) the second monitor shuts off. I don't want this to happen, I want it to stay on and still be able to move the mouse over to it and use the programs that i have opened on it. does anyone know of a way to make this happen?
    Thank you!

well i found out that the next patch will fix the problem in WoW, but that still leaves front row... is there some patch or hack for front row to add dual monitor support?

  • Show desktop not working in full screen app

The thumb & three finger swipe to show the desktop does not work for me if the screen is filled with a full screen app. If hte app is not full screen then the gesture works.
Is this  a bug, does anyone else get this, what use is the gesture if it doesn't work with full screen apps??!
    TIA,
    J

    John,
No, the gesture doesn't work in full screen since technically there isn't a desktop under the full screen app.  I just swipe to an adjacent desktop.

  • Quick Way To Launchpad & Desktop With Full Screen Mode

    1. Is there any way to fix it so that I can get the desktop and launchpad in between the dashboard and full screen apps?
    Dashboard <> Desktop <> Launchpad <> Full screen app 1 <> Full screen app 2 <> etc
    2. Is there a way I can quickly get to the launchpad with a keystroke.  In my old way of working I used to use the dock as a launchpad.  Having to go to the doc to launch launchpad and then get to an app seems like superfluous effort.
    Thanks

Hi -  I'm with you!  Having to go to the dock to pull up launchpad seems superfulous.  I would like to keep the launchpad screen open on my Mac all the time, like it is on my iPad and iPhone.
Anyone know how to do this????
