Full Service but can't send/recieve text message or make/receive call

I've got full service, but I cannot make or receive calls/texts. I'm in the same location that i've been able to do so since I got the phone. Help?

I have had this same exact problem.  Internet access is fine over 3G or wireless but I am unable to make phone calls or send text messages.
I have tried both removing the battery for 30 seconds while the phone is on and restarting the device and  *228, with both option 1 and 2 and none of these fixes have worked.

  • I send imessages with full connectivity, but they still send as text messages, to someone whom i know has reliable connection also, is there a solution to this problem?

This has been bothering me, im going to try restoring my iphone, hopefully that works...

I don't think this works. Even if I turn off iMessage on my iPhone, anyone who has iMessage turned on on their phone will automatically send an iMessage text. For example the picture shows what will show up on a device that has iMessage turned on, when they're about to send a message. As you can see there's an "iMessage" sign in the text box. Wether or not iMessage is turned off on my phone, it doesn't matter to the other device which doesn't know that. It's not like turning off iMessage on my phone will automatically send a message to the other phone saying iMessage is turned off, so they can now start sending SMS texts. So basically, turning off iMessage on my phone does absolutely nothing. Sorry if this was a little confusing.

  • If I have cellular capabilities turned on, can I send a text message to any type of cell phone thu iMessage?

If I have cellular capabilities turned on, can I send a text message to any type of cell phone using iMessage? Or do I need a app such as Text Plus to do this.  I have a New iPad.  Thanks for any info.

iMessagel is basically an online chat kinda service. It does not use a carrier service to send text message. It only does instant messages. At least on the iPad side. iPhones are given to choise of sending via iMessage and text depending on the receiver.

  • I can't send a text message with this new iPad 3

I cannot send a text to a friend with an older iPhone.  I tried turning iMessage off but it keeps prompting me to log in instead of sending the text via SMS with my cellular plan.  Any suggestions?

So you did not read about iMessage before you bought the iPad? If you did, you would know that you can only text other iOS 5 users.
    http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#imessage says:
    iMessage
iPad and iPod touch join the conversation.
With iMessage, we’ve created a new messaging service for all iOS 5 users. You can send unlimited text messages via Wi-Fi or 3G from your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to anyone with one of those devices. iMessage is built into the Messages app, so you can send text, photos, videos, locations, and contacts. Keep everyone in the loop with group messaging. Track your messages with delivery receipts and optional read receipts, see when someone’s typing, and enjoy secure encryption for text messages. Even start a conversation on one of your iOS devices and pick up where you left off on another.

  • Why can I send a text message from my iPad mini from my contacts?

I try to send a text message from my contact list on my ipad mini ,
the contact name comes up in pink.....Can you tell me why?

    Hi,
Because you are choosing an Contact ID (iPhone Number or Apple ID) that is either not registered or currently unavailable.
A iPhone away from WiFi connection may also be out of range of it's Cell/mobile Service. (Or Switched Off or in Airplane Mode).
An iPad may not be on a Wifi Network  at present. (or run out of Power)
You may know a Buddy's email and it may also be an Apple ID but that does not mens that they have "registered" it for iMessages.

  • Help! New iphone 3g not sending/recieving text messages or email!!!

Hey guys. I just got myself a 3g iphone today and im already havin issues with it. I updated to 3.1.2 right off the bat.
Well it seems that i can send email, but that seems to be about it. I can not send or recieve text messages. I can recieve email, but it will not notify me when I get a new email. The only way i can find out if i have a new email is by opening the mailbox and waiting for it to refresh.
Isnt this thing suposed to push my emails and notify me as soon as they are sent? How do i get this and my text messaging working? This is so disapointing since my wife just got a $10 phone that worked flawlesly right out of the box.
    thanks all,
    ---Joe

First off, Reset your iPhone. Hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the off slider, wait for the Apple logo to appear then let the buttons go. After it resets try to send a text message again. If it does not work there is probably an issue with your carrier and you will have to contact them.
As far as mail, do you have a MobileMe, Yahoo push, GMail push, or Exchange mail account? Because these are the only ones that will Push your mail to the iPhone. If you do have one of these make sure Push is turned on in the Mail settings. If you don't have one of these you can go to the Mail settings and specifying a mail Fetch period.

  • TS4268 Why can't I recieve text messages on my Motorola razr from people with an iphone

I am not able to recieve text messages from people with an iPhone to my Motorola razr, wondering what we need to do to fix this

Contact your cell phone provider, SMS/MMS is a carrier feature.

  • Can't send photo text messages

My iPhone 4S has suddenly stopped sending photo text messages. I get a message failure everytime unless it is sent through imessage. I tried moving the SIM card to my daughter's 4S and it did the same thing. Kicker is, after putting the original SIM card back into my daughter's 4S her's has the same problem. Is it the phone or card? Is there an easy fix?

MMS is a carrier feature, talk to them about it.

  • Full service but won't send text message

My iPhone has been doing this for about a week. I'll have full bars and I try to send a text and it will going about 3/4 of the way and sometimes send but most of the time it'll say message send failure or whatever and I always restart my phone but it still does it. Anybody know what's going on?

First thing to do is make sure your SIM card is sitting in the tray securely. You can use a straightened small paperclip to pop the tray out. If that doesn't help, bring the phone to AT&T and let them know you're having troubles and ask for a replacement SIM to see if that gives you any improvements. If a replacement SIM doesn't work, head to an Apple store and have a Genius take a look.

  • I had my iphone yesterday everything works except for facetime and I can recieve txts and send imessages but i cant send normal text messages??????

I had my iphone ysterday set it up and updated it as it told me to. Everything works but my phone will not let me send normal txt messages. When going onto setting ands facetime and imessages it is still saying waiting for activation. It will only let me set imessages thru my email its nt giving me the option to send thru my phone number!! can anyone help!!!

Talk to your carrier. Your account may not be provisioned correctly for text messaging. That would explain the problem activating facetime as well, since it uses SMS to activate.

  • I blocked a number then unblocked it and now I can't send them text messages but I can call them. What's wrong?

I blocked a friends number when we fought but now were friends and I unblocked. Why can I still not text him?

    Hi Felicia913,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these steps first if you are not able to send text messages to a specific contact:
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and re-create the contact from the Contacts application. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
You can find these steps here:

  • I have a brand new iphone 5.  I can imessage and receive texts but can't send a text or reply to one.  Any ideas?

I have a brand new iphone 5.. I can imessage and receive texts but can't reply or send new ones.  Any ideas?

You can check this support document regarding troubleshooting Messages http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2755
However, SMS is a carrier function. You say that iMessage is working, so I would contact the carrier since it is SMS is not working.

  • Can't send/recieve texts or calls

I'm having issues with my Iphone 4s.  Nothing appears to be physically wrong with the phone but it will not work for texting or making phone calls.  In the upper left hand corner of the screen it has the service bars showing I have service but the 3G/4G symbol is no longer showing up.  When I try and make a call I get an error and when someone tries calling me it says the person you are trying to reach is not accepting phone calls at this time.  I've tried reseting the phone as well as taking out the sim card and putting it back in.  Outside of that I'm not super tech savvy so any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings...if that doesn't work, get a new sim. If that doesn't work, make an appointment at an Apple store.
