Full usage of one iTunes account / iPod and two laptops

Basically, I want to purchase, upload, sync, etc. music files to / from one iTunes account / iPod as necessary via two different laptops (mine and my wife's).
Does the one iTunes account that we currently have allow for this functionality? If so, it seems I should see the same view from my laptop (as I see from my wife's laptop) when logging onto our iTunes account but I don't...
When logging in to our iTunes account from her laptop, I see everything. And when logging in from my laptop, I see nothing. While the iPod is up-to-date, I'm afraid to sync using my laptop for fear of losing everything...
I’ve reviewed the forums as well as the two help topics titled "moving iTunes Store purchases to another computer" and "sharing your iTunes library across computers" but have come up short.
I hope this makes sense. Please advise...thanks

Yes you can use the same account with iTunes to login on two computers or even two user accounts on the same computer. Just not at the same time.
Purchases made on one machine or user account will not be on the other machine unless you transfer the files yourself from machine to machine. If you look at the account info within iTunes your purchase history will include purchases from both machines.

  • PC & Laptop dual usage with one iTunes account...

i just bought a laptop and downloaded iTunes onto it, using the same account as I have on my home pc. I purchased some songs from iTunes on the laptop and I can't download them onto my iPhone, nor am I able to access those purchases on my home pc's iTunes. The purchases show up on my iTunes purchase history though. Is there anyway that I can use both my pc and laptop to access new purchases? Also, why am I not able to download to my phone using my laptop's iTunes account?

iphone will sync itunes content and pics from one and ONLY ONE computer at a time.  If you sync to another, it will first erase the current content from the iphone and replace with content from the new computer.
Also, music does not magically appear on other computers.  You buy one and ONLY ONE download.  It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
You can use home share, external drive, flash drive, cds, etc to move/copy/backup your music.

  • Syncing two iPhones with one iTunes account, archive and install

I had a blue screen and had to archive and install.
I re-synched my iPhone and at that time put my iPhone contacts in my address book with
my group name, that I just created. I created a group for her and now want to re-synch her iPhone
with my computer and with my iTunes account, like before. I get a message that the info on that her iPhone is synched with another user account. A choice to merge info from this user account or replace info from this user account. I want to make sure that her contacts go into the address book, under
her group. I don't want to lose her her contacts on the phone, when I re-synch her iphone.

I want to make sure that her contacts go into the address book, under her group. I don't want to lose her her contacts on the phone, when I re-synch her iphone.
You should select the Merge option. If you don't, the existing contact information in the Address Book on your Mac will replace all contact info in her iPhone's address book.

  • Struggling with one iTunes 10 Library and two kids

I'm struggling with iTunes 10 and the music Library.  My two kids both have ipod touches, and each wants a different subset of whats in the library.  Whats the best way to manage this when each kid wants to add/delete music?
Should each kid be running iTunes from their own profile?  But then could I keep the one libary or will I need seperate copies?   Could we instead make seperate playlists for each kid with their selection and somehow sync to those songs only?
My iTunes library consisting of a large collection of mp3 files, which I'd rather not have multiple copies of on the same computer.  In the preferences > Advanced settings I've specified the media folder location path and selected the checkboxes to keep the folder organized and to copy media when added to the library.  In Preferences > Devices, I've selected to prevent automatic syncs and somewhere else I've selected to manually manage music selections.

    Jon,
You should be able to do what you want. However, keep in mind these caveats, by design, the iphone will sync itunes content with ONE computer at a time. Thus, if you start syncing such content to your wife's phone from your account if you decide to switch to her account, all itunes content on her phone will first be erased & then replaced with the content from her account. You can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, there is no limit. So yes, you can sync itunes content from your account to your wife's phone.
First, disable auto sync, under preferences, in both your accounts.
What you would do is make sure that there are no checks in any boxes regarding itunes content under your wife's login...the only thing you'll be syncing under her login is contacts & calendars. When she connects her phone under your login, make sure there are no checks in any boxes regarding contacts or calendars, the only thing you'll be syncing is itunes content.
Since you can sync as many devices as you want to the same itunes account, itunes will keep everything straight by device. Thus, once you set things up, from that point on itunes will recognize what device is what & sync accordingly.

  • Can I have one itunes account, but have two devices that used different email accounts?

I have an iPad2 and want to buy an iPod Touch for my daughter.  I want it to use her email address, but use my itunes account.  Can that be done?

The Apple/iTunes ID (which is a email address) is seperate from any mail accounts yu have on the iPod/iPad.  Both devices can use the same Apple/iTunes ID but have different email address for the mail accounts on the devices.

  • How can I set up itunes with one ipod and two laptops?

My boyfriend gave me an ipod a few months ago and he let me set up itunes on his laptop so everything is there. now that i have my own laptop i want everything thats on his laptop on mine. The itunes part i mean. but i don't know how can anyone help me?

    Do as this article says:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
That will make your iPod the syncing computer.
You can only have one syncing computer/iTunes library for apps. and photos. You can however, manually sync music and vides from multiple computer/library if you sync manually. See that topic of:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad

  • 2 iPhones connected to one iTunes account? With two numbers- is it possible

I have an iPhone And we are planning on getting another one. My husband is going to take mine and we'd like to switch it to his number and I will get the 3g. We want to synch both to my iTunes acct. To share the music etc. Can we do this? How? How do we switch my phone to his number?

Yes, it's possible. iTunes will recognize each as a separate device and you can select what you want synced on each. This article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386) does mention that you cannot connect both at the same time.
AT&T has a nice video about giving your old phone to someone else and getting it activated. You would have to get a new sim card for the phone you are giving to your husband. See the video here" http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=6158&cat=32&u=619. It would probably be best to go to your local AT&T store and talk about changing his phone number and getting a family phone account.
Since you will both be using your iTunes Store account, you should have no problems sharing music and apps.

  • How can i sync 15 iPads to 1 iTunes account quickly and easily?

I am in charge of 15 iPads in my school.
I would like to sync all the ipads to one itunes account easily and quickly. At the moment i am doing this manually 1 at a time.
The ipads do all have apps on them now, but when i download new apps or software updates, i have to sync it across each ipad 1 at a time through itunes.
I would also like to create a new itunes account, to keep 1 set (15) of ipads sperate from another set we have in school. Could i transfer purchases to the new itunes from 1 iPad, then sync across the remaining 14?
We have a spare computer that could soley be used for itunes or alternatiely, i have a personal macbook pro, that has my personal library on it.
The ipads are contained in a storage/charging station, that can be connected to a pc/mac via a usb cable (connection is similar to a printer port, then into USB).
I have connected the container to the pc via USB and itunes recognises the 15 ipads, but i still have to sync them individually.
I would like to be able to connect the container, click sync and leave it over night, rather than sit there for hours.
    Is this possible?
Must be other people in similar situations as many schools have ipads now.
    Thanks in advance!

This may be over the top for 15 ipads.

  • How do i sync one itunes account with two iphones, one ipod touch, and a nano?

I need help in how to sync the one itunes account we use as a family with the two iphones my wife and i have and an ipod touch that my son has and a nano that my daughter has. Please help.

That article applies, as far as I can tell, to all things called iPod X where X can be nano, touch, classic etc.
We don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to our computer
To make sure your apps don't inadvertently merge turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.

  • Can i use one itunes account and 2 ipod toung devices

can i have two cloud with one itunes account?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
To begin with, I would like to try to explain Apple's confusing nomenclature in regard to iCloud.
Apple have called the whole cloud thing iCloud, there are a number of features under the iCloud umbrella, some of which require their own login. iTunes is one of these, another is what Apple have unfortunately also called iCloud too.
You can use the same Apple ID (account) to login to both iCloud and iTunes, but you don't need to and often users will login to each service using a different ID.
The part that you need to remember is that the services available when you log into iCloud are completely different and unrelated to those when you log in to iTunes. Your iCloud login enables mail, contacts, calendars, find my phone, Back to My Mac, Documents & Data sharing and photostream, it does not affect any of your iTunes services.
So yes, you can use a separate iCloud account on each iPod and a single iTunes account on both of them.

As a clarification, you can have up to 5 devices with iTunes.
Sorry, this is incorrect.  The limit of 5 relates to the number of computers you can authorize to use iTunes, NOT the number of iOS devices you can sync with a single iTunes library.  You can sync as many iOS devices as you like to iTunes.  See whitewater2's post below... he is syncing at least 6 iOS devices with the same iTunes library.

  • HT5622 How many family members, computers, iPods,iPad,IDs can you have on one iTunes account?

I'm just trying to sort out some iTunes I'd issues.  Does anyone know how many total iPad iPods can be used with one Apple ID?  Or how many apple  IDs your can have with one iTunes account? Or does each person need there own Apple ID or Apple account? Thanks

You can't have multiple IDs on one account, but you can use multiple IDs for different purposes on the same device.
Just use the one AppleID for iTunes and the AppStore so you can all share your music and app purchases. Then each person should have their own individual AppleID with associated iCloud account for mail, contacts, calendars, iMessage and FaceTime.
You don't have to use the same AppleID for all services.
