Full version of CS, to Upgrade CS2, to Upgrade CS3,

Years ago I bought a full version of Photoshop CS for a hefty price. Later I upgraded to Photoshop CS2 for a fair price. Later still, I upgraded to Photoshop CS3 for yet more money. All in all I had roughly $1000 getting to Photoshop CS3. I now subscribe to Creative Suite, so I am happy there. I have just lost the ability to have my version of CS3. I causes me stress, even though I no longer use it, that I have lost the equivalent of $1000. I have all of my product keys on file here with Adobe, as I always have. How may I please get a working copy of CS3 that I rightfully paid for, so that I do no feel like a buffoon for losing the equivalent of $1000? It would very much help me sleep at night simply knowing this is not a total loss.
I also bought a full version of CS4 at full price and registered it here as well, when my business at the time required Photoshop on more than 2 PC's. I do still have that disk and serial number. May I now use CS4 on 4 PC's to solve this problem? Not even that I need or want to anymore. I just hate being out $1000.
Either way, I will continue my creative suite subscription. I wish this had been available during my time in business.
Thank you,
Eddie

I'm sorry that I may have written in a confusing way.
My main trouble is that I have no versions of the CS->CS2->CS3 to use a version of CS3. I bought the original CS and then upgraded twice to get to CS3. I no longer have those installed on any PC and lack the downloads to do so, even though I have my serial numbers registered here with Adobe.
I do have a hard copy of CS4 that co-exists nicely with the new creative cloud package. I often catch myself using it, based on familiarity, my actions, and plugins that I accumulated over the years.
I appreciate your help, and I am sorry have written it in a confusing way.  Thank you.

If you have a paid-up version of LR4 or earlier, you can pay for an upgrade licence.  When you install LR and it asks for a licence, if you give it an upgrade licence then it will ask for the previous licence that you're upgrading.

  • Full version pshop CS (8), upgraded to CS4. Recieved the free upgrade to CS5... will this work?

    Hi,
Appologies if this seems like a stupid enquiry. I'll keep it quick and simple.
I had been running a full version of photoshop CS (aka photoshop version 8). I just bought the upgrade to CS4 and also (to answer other questions on this forum) I just received the free upgrade to CS5 from Adobe. Not having an intel Mac yet I plan to sit on my CS5 upgrade till I have the machine to run it. My question to anyone who knows/has done this, can I install my CS5 upgrade given that my original full copy of photoshop was version CS (ie. more than 3 versions back)...?
    I have seen this discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2734196#2734196
but it still leaves me unsure (would Tai Lao be able to install CS5 if he wanted too I wonder...???).
Before anyone asks I have asked Adobe via the customer support portal and they said that I 'could install CS5 upgrade from CS4 upgrade' (which still doesn't answer the question, does my having CS stop me upgrading to CS5 due to the "3 version back upgrade policy"...?
    Thanks for the help!
    Matt

    Matt,
    Focus for a second please:
All Adobe upgrades are FULL INSTALLERS.  If the upgrade does not find a previous version installed, it will simply ask you for the old serial number as well.  That's all.
You now have a valid CS4 serial number.  When you install CS5, the installer will look for a previously installed version.  If you have installed CS4, it will proceed automatically to install CS5.  If you did not install CS4, just use its serial number when prompted. (NOTE:  This is based on the assumption that CS was indeed a qualifying version to upgrade to CS4.  I don't remember what the requirements were back then.)
I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8 (CS), 9.0.2 (CS2), 10.1 (CS3) and 11.0.1 (CS4) installed on my machine.  All those are upgrades from my original full version 4 of Photoshop from many, many years ago.  I can run all of them on my machine, even simultaneously If I wanted to, by launching the older version(s) first.  In practice, I have run two versions simultaneously without any problems.
Just have your CS4 serial number handy.
Now, be advised that an awful lot of users are having nightmarish difficulties with the CS5 installer.  If you run into trouble, don't blame it on the serial number, just blame the extraordinarily incompetent members of the pathetic installer team.  That's a team outside of the Photoshop engineering team that has proven a disgraceful embarrassment to Adobe engineers and executives.  A senior program manager has even admitted in private correspondence that he can't write in public what he would like to do to the members of the installer team.

Of course I could, if I wanted to and had an Intel machine.  However, I have rejected Leopard and Snow Leopard, and I will stay with CS4 and Tiger 10.0.4.11 for the foreseeable future, which means for the remainder of my life expectancy, as I can't afford a new machine.

Matt, the "3 version back upgrade policy" simply means that you have to have a valid serial number for one of the three versions, and you do have a valid number for CS4, which in turn was based on your valid number for CS.
    Stop tormenting yourself.

  • Do I need to install CS4 full version before installing CS5 upgrade?

New hard drive in iMac. I have a full version of CS4 design premium and an upgrade version of CS5. Do I have to install both? Or can I just install CS5 upgrade and somehow use my CS4 full serial number to validate the CS5?

You have the right idea.  You do not have to install CS4.  At some point during installation of CS5 you will be required to enter the serial number for CS4 in order to confirm it as a valid upgrade installation

  • Hello.  I have Adobe Captivate 6 and wanting to upgrade.  How can I upgrade to the new Captivate 8 since I do not have 7 or access to 7?  Doesn't make since I'd have to buy another full version opposed to simply upgrading what I have.  Please help.

How can I upgrade Adobe Captivate 6 without purchasing the full version of the new Captivate 8?
I'm told that the window of opportunity to upgrade to 7 was short and now that 8 is out i cannot leap from 6 to 8.  Doesn't make since that I'd have to buy a full version of a program I already own.
Can anyone help me with a simple upgrade possibility?

It stinks that there isn't an upgrade option from 6, but it's due to the new subscription option for Captivate which actually ends up being far cheaper for you in the long run. Captivate 7 came out a little over a year ago the upgrade for that was the same as the 7 to 8 upgrade. As the upgrade is $400 and a subscription is only $20 per month, or $240 for a year, you'll end up saving money should the next upgrade come out in another year.

  • Full version vs. Upgrade version CS5

Do you still need a previous full version to install an upgrade of CS5?

NO your upgrade does not need CS5 install, but I would keep it installed for a few months.
You just need two serial numbers if you upgraded to CS6 non cloud version.
To which version are you upgrading?

  • Full version 10.4 install

I am installing a full version OS10.4 on to my imac whenever it gets here, it's the first flat panel imac that came out, anyway because it is full version and not an upgrade do I still need to install the 10.1 and the 10.3 that came with this imac first or can I do just the 10.4 install? Also maybe this is not the forum to ask on but I have Photoshop 6.0 and Illustrator 9.0 which is why I have the imac with OS 9.2 can I use OS10.4 with these or do I have to re-install OS9.2? Thank you,

I would certainly do the simple upgrade install on the iBook.
You repair permissions by using Disk Utility. It is found by going to the Applications folder then to the Utilities folder. Open Disk Utility and then single click on "Macintosh HD" in the left hand panel. Then select "First Aid" from the tabs in the main section of the window. Click on the "Repair Disk Permissions" button at the bottom and that starts the repair. Don't waste time and click "Verify", just go straight to "Repair...".
Be sure to reread my answer above about using Disk Utility from your install disk to run the "Repair Disk" function. This is different from repairing permissions and requires that you boot the Mac from the CD/DVD as I stated.
Your iTunes stuff is found in this location: Home Folder > Music > iTunes
I've never actually transferred iTunes from one Mac to another myself, so you might want to read up on it in iTunes Help.
Disk Utility is usually all that is needed except for certain problems. There is another utility called Disk Warrior that is sometimes needed to repair problems with the directory.

So, just so I have this straight; would CS upgrade to CS5 or did you mean I would have to purchase CS5 to upgrade to CS6? And If so, does CS upgrade any further? i.e. CS 3 or 4? Thanks for your reply --
CS will not upgrade to CS5. Historically, only CS2-CS4 ever qualified for upgrade to CS5. Those versions are all long superseded and no longer available from Adobe.
Adobe currently only sells CS6 (for outright purchase) and the Cloud (by subscription only). Cloud members have access to both CS6 and CC.
The only way to upgrade to CS6 is from CS5. Adobe no longer sells CS5. Unless you purchase the full version of CS5 from elsewhere (I don't see any point in that in this case) you would not be able to upgrade to CS6. You'd have to buy the full version of CS6. Or subscribe to one of the Cloud plans. PS+LR is an excellent deal if you use those products.

  • Policy regarding updating CS2 Design Premium Education Version to full version of CS4

I currently have the education version of CS2 Design Premium, and would like to upgrade to the full version of CS4 Design Premium. Am I eligible? And at what price?

Buko, It is faster, but not enough for me to invest in the equipment ($300.+) & then pay the $60-$120. @ month for 2 years! ( the $120. gets ya about what speed a midrange phone line DSL offers at $25. a month) oh well AT&T keeps saying "any day now, any day" HA!
Neil, should anything created in the CS4 version be saved (i imagine) in a CS2 format so it can be opened If I decide or can't afford to update before trial runs out and if so can ya make a guess if I would be able to edit anything at all? (way not computer savvy!!) CS2/Studio8 is my first foray into digital design!

  • CS3 - is it upgrade or full version?

Hi guys! I have bought CS3 on eBay and had the licence transferred to me. The seller told me that this was full version of CS3. But when I try to install from DVD, it tells me that this is an upgrade and I have to enter the serial no. of previous versions (7.0, CS or CS2). Can you definitely tell me what version do I have? The sticker on the box says DVS/A.PHSP.10.0.WIN.GEN.UE.W/SENSOR and there's a number - 90081623.
    cheers,
    Piotr

    Piotr,
Based on Dec9's comment, it sounds like an upgrade.
    However, you state:
had the licence transferred to me.
Did the seller furnish you with the "official" Adobe license transfers. There is paperwork involved, and did you get that? What does it say? Adobe makes it easy for a seller to transfer a license legally to another, and there is necessary paperwork involved. You should be, first able to see how Adobe noted the software, and if there is confusion, then will have something to use, when you contact Adobe C/S on licensing/Activation issues. Or, you'll have paperwork to use against the seller when you contact eBay.
    Good luck,

  • How to tell if you are buying a full version or upgrade

buying adobe premiere pro cs3 - how can you tell from the numbers on the packaging if it is a full version (commercial) or educational or just an upgrade, I was on hold for nearly 2 hours with adobe customer service and nobody picked up.
    cheers

Are you buying from the Adobe Store? The package WILL state whether it's the full, an upgrade (see Phil's comment), or the eductional version.
Are you buying from a certified reseller? The package SHOULD give the full details.
Are you buying from eBay? Who knows what you'll get, or whether it will work?
Are you buying from an individual? Other than asking them, and trusting them, I'm not sure that there's a way to tell. Maybe a certain UPC on a clean shrink-wrapped box could yield a clue.
Note: if you need a key-gen, or similar, for the installation key and for a S/N, it will certainly be bogus. I realize that you know this, but I felt that I had to include it for any others.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Help Upgrading from Trial version to Full version of PSE 10. Buy Now Link in my Editor not working

Went to convert from my free trial and purchase full version. When I hit the "Buy Now" button within my Editor, nothing happens. How do I proceed to upgrade? Thank you for your time and help!

[email protected] I would recommend purchasing the software directly from our website.  http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements.html  After you make the purchase you can then enter the serial number you received into the trial.

  • Lightroom: upgrade from trial to full version, how to enter license key?

I installed Lightroom from Creative Cloud (CC) trial on Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit. The version is LR 5.6. I do not want CC, so I purchased the full version of LR on DVD. I was going to reinstall LR from the DVD, but see that it is only version 5.2. I have already done a fair amount of work with the trial LR 5.6 and am worried about losing the catalog that I have created.
So I thought I could apply the full version license key to the trial install, but there is no place to do that within LR. When I bring up the CC master application it shows that I have 5 days left with LR, but still has no way to apply a license key.
I had a very long and frustrating chat session with tech support. In the end I was advised to uninstall the trial, then install the full version. I might be able to download LR 5.6 full and simply install that.
So let me summarize my questions:
Is there any way to apply the license key for standalone full version of LR to the trial version that was installed using CC?
If I uninstall trial version, will I be able to install LR 5.6 download and apply license key?
If I cannot install from download and instead have to install from purchased DVD, will version 5.2 be able to import the existing catalog? Will subsequent upgrade(s) to 5.6 go smoothly?
What about the catalog? Will the existing catalog simply be found during a new installation? Or do I have to manually import?
I've found the community help in the LR forum to be very good - and that is why I am abandoning ACDSee after many years Thank you all for your help.

You should just uninstall what you have installed for LR 5.x, now, then download and install the LR 5.6 update from the Adobe Updates page, and enter your standalone serial number, and things should pick up where you left off.
You might want to go into LR’s preferences (if LR is still opening for you) and see where the catalog (.lrcat) file actually resides on your computer in case you have a problem and have to double-click on that .lrcat file to open your catalog, but my experience is that nothing will seem different after you’ve installed the new version other than the version number will be newer.  The preferences, catalog, and pictures are somewhere different than where the program is installed so uninstalling and reinstalling shouldn’t affect any of it.
LR 5.6 update is here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
FYI, the CC-LR is licensed by logging into CC, the standalone version is licensed by entering a serial number.  That is why you have to uninstall the CC_licensed version and install the non-CC-licensed version.
It also probably wouldn’t mess anything up to install LR 5.2 from the DVD, but then you’d have to turn around and immediately download the LR 5.6 update, anyway, and it would waste time, so why not start with the latest update.  The update is a fully function program, not a patch to an existing program.  It’ll either find your existing licensing information if you’ve already entered the serial number or ask for a serial number if it doesn’t find anything—which sounds like your situation.

  • Queries related to Redwood Installation / Upgrade to Full version

    Hi All,
    We Need some help.
We have couple of question related to redwood installation, kindly help us.
We have SAP Central Process for Scheduling (Redwood 6.0.2.7) basic version installed on our Unix server.
We are now planning to migrate to the SAP CPS full version and have already procured the license. SAP added the installables at the marketplace under - Installation and upgrades - My Application components - SAP Partner products - SAP CPS Scheduler (Full) after the procurement. We have downloaded the installables now.
    My questions are:
    1. How do we now upgrade the Redwood OEM version to full version? Because, we had mailed to SAP with the OEM license to change it to full version, but then SAP replied to us asking us to send them the full version license. How do I get that? Does this file (register.txt) gets created once we start the installation of Redwood full version? Because we had assumed that by buying the full version license, we would just need to send the OEM license and it would be changed to a full version, but its not so. How do we go about from here. Do we do a new installation and uninstall the basic version?
    2. Also, if we are to do a new installation, how do we get the register.txt file which we need to send to SAP for key generation?
We are very new to Redwood. Any pointers would be highly appreciated.
    Awaiting your response.
    Thanks in advance.
    Warm Regards

I see you have billed my credit card for a single app version, but I think I want to upgrade to the full version for $49.99/month. How do I do this?
Also it seems to me I can only download the trial version of dreamweaver (I purchased the membership for this app and it even says so in my billing history)? Help?

If you mean that you currently have a Single App subscription and you want to upgrade to a full Cloud membership then try this FAQ
    http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud/faq.html#single-app
If I decide I would like to upgrade to an Adobe Creative Cloud complete membership rather than continue a single-app membership, how do I do that?
You can upgrade your single-app membership to a Creative Cloud complete membership by logging in to www.creativecloud.com, going to the My Account page, and simply walking through the steps to upgrade. You will be given a partial refund on the remaining amount due on your existing membership.
