Fully charged ipod battery completly drained once sync to itunes???????

I have a 3rd gen ipod. The battery seems to hold a good charge that is until I hook it up to my pc. The battery can be fully charged but after hooking it up to sync with itunes, the battery is completly drained in less than three minutes causing the ipod to reset itself an making it extremly difficult to load my music. Prior to receiving an applcation error in the past this was never an issue.....Any idea or suggestion why this would be happening?

Don't rely too much on the battery indicator for this info, it's well known for being about as much use as a chocolate spacesuit.
However, here's your problem.
"I connect it through the usb port." (you left that part out of your original post)
3rd gen iPods cannot charge via a usb port. So as I said, it's not getting any power whilst transferring songs.
How do you normally charge the iPod?

The data is still there - every so often when I switch it on, it comes up with the main icon screen, rather than the emegency calls only screen (which it does most of the time), and I can get to my contacts, photos, and so on, but it won't connect to any mobile/cell network provider, including my network here in the UK - O2.

I had the same problem updating to the new ios 6. It seem to have removed all my software and everything else from the iphone. It will not operate anymore...does anyone else have this problem? it just happen last night and now all i have is a sign on the iphone asking me to plug it into itunes ....when i do it tells me to restore it. I pod charged up /battery still drains when off

I have the 2G i pod classic. It charges up fine I disconnect it and turn it off but when I go to play it the battery is not fully charged? what is draining it when its oFF???

How long are you waiting? The iPod's battery will slowly drain simply because the iPod still needs to use the power to keep things like the clock going.
Now, if you turn it off and turn it back on five minutes later, the battery should still appear to be fully charged.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!

The problem was only for calls and network and other functionlities were working fine. So i did reset through settings-general-Reset-Reset all settings and re tried then it worked fine. But this is only a temporary solution need a permanent fix.

Your email address (used as your Apple ID) does not matter, because iPods are not directly linked to a particular Apple ID.
NOTE: You can still use your old Apple ID, even if your that email address is no longer valid. As long as you remember your Apple ID password. Go here and click on Manage your Apple ID.

You can change the primary email address used by Apple, although the Apple ID remains the same.

- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem
