Fun? with Photo Attachments in Mail

Hello. I have always wondered just how photo attachments arrived at a Windows user computer.
After reading an article in the April 2009 Macworld (Mac911), I decided to try a few tests as follows:
(I would really appreciate any comments for other suggestions--I imagine a lot of Mac users are are also concerned about it).
1--I first tried the one recommended in the article by making a Zip file as follows:
I dragged a picture from iPhoto to my Desktop. I then went into FILE in the Finder and clicked on COMPRESS.
I then composed a message in Mail and using the attach feature at the top of the message, attached the photo to the message and sent it to the Windows user.
He indicated it did not work that well, too much 'fiddling' to get it useable.
2--I then went into iPhoto, highlighted a photo, clicked on the email function in iPhoto and sent it off.
Windows guy says still not that good.
3--I then tried simply dragging a photo first from iPhoto to the desktop, then dragged it into a message I had composed on Mail and sent it. That way didnt seem good for him either.
4--**This is the one that he seemed happy with:
I dragged the photo from iPhoto on to my desktop. I then composed an email message in Mail and using the 'attach' feature in Mail, attached the photo from the desktop into my Mail message.
He indicated that was the one he preferred by a long shot.
However, it is a bit of a complicated procedure on my end---any suggestions to make this easier?

From iPhoto, click to send as before. But prior to sending, click on Format in the menubar of Mail, and select Make Plain Text. In addition, it would be best to set iPhoto NOT to add the Titles or Descriptions beneath the photo. Have the photo or photos be the last thing in the message -- enter no text following any photo.
Test this with you friend. Not all those things will be necessary all the time, but safest anyway. If the recipient were, for example, using Thunderbird you probably wouldn't have to do any of them, but for those using Outlook or Outlook Express all of those steps would be best.

  • I am having trouble with photo attachments in mail

When i attach photos from Lightroom into my mail messages, they are embedded and do not appear as attachments.  When others receive the email, the pictures are embedded and can only be copied but cannot be used or edited like a normal attachment.  When I control click on the embedded photos in my mail message and select show as icon, I get a very small thumbnail and not the the full size phot that I want.
When I use other email programs (Sparrow), I do not have that problem

You correct it by leaving Bridge alone until it finishes rebuilding its cache, overnight if necessary.

  • Saving photo attachments from Mail to iPhone

    Merry Christmas
The MMS debate and iPhone rages on and many iPhone fanatics say 'why do you need MMS when you can send/receive photos as email attachments...?'. If that's the case, is there any way you can save a photo received as an email attachment to the 'Photo' section of the iPhone? Is this yet another oversight from our friends in Apple or have I just not discovered how to do it? If the former, it seems the only way to keep photo attachments is to archive all emails with photo attachments - neither intuitive, functional nor an effective use of memory...or I could save emailed photos into iPhoto when next on my iMac and transfer them over to my iPhone when it's docked, but this somehow seems to underline the iPhone's lack of functionality in this area (a rarity given the rest of it is absolutely superb - aside from the MMS issue, lack of video & non-ability to forward/send multi-SMSs).
Grateful for any advice, or do just have to write some feedback to Apple and just grin and bare it?
    Cheers

Sorry to say this but yeah this one is for the feedback page, there is no way to save the photos from the Mail app to the Photo app

  • Sending photo attachments from Mail to Gmail

I've been sending photo attachments via Mail for years and haven't had trouble until recently. Now I'm getting complaints from Gmail users that the attachments come through as embedded files. I guess on the Gmail end, they don't see it listed out as an attachment, but as part of the mail body. What's going on here?
I attach files same as I always have - by clicking on "attach", then selecting the file(s) I want to attach. I always leave "send windows friendly attachments" selected (although in an experiment, I tried sending it without clicking that, and the images came over all stretched out and shrunken in a very strange way).
I can't think of what would be happening, but I'm assuming it's something in either the way Mail or Gmail is treating the photos - and I'd like to have them come through as attachments, rather than embed files (I'm a photographer and have heard from some of my clients that the embed is a pain - they have to "save as" right click on each image rather than just select "save attachments" or something).
    Any ideas??

Send to these recipients using only Plain Text, and all should be well. To test choose a message you previously sent from the Sent mailbox, open, click on Message in the menubar, choose Send Again, then click on Format and choose Make Plain Text.
Rich Text as received by those using Outlook or Outlook Express, as two examples, will see the RTF as HTML, and the attachments will appear embedded -- although they are not.

  • Saving photo attachments in mail.app

Can anyone please tell me if there is a simple way to save multiple photo attachments from several emails to one folder in one go?
I am hoping that I don't have to go to each individual email & save

Not wanting to start another topic, is anyone else having issues with the new Lion Mail?
First: is there any way to turn off the jps in the image and just send them as a file? I hate remembering to make sure the cursor is set to the best location for the inserted images
The problem I see is sending more than one file. Im not so sure the second plus file is attached.
I know for sure the image of the scond file is normally half gone.

  • Can't see photo attachments in mail

Whenever I try to email photos to my wife (using iphoto on either an imac or mb pro), they don't come up in mail on the ipad.  In place of the photos is something like this:
    [cid:A4E886A2-5514-4261-8DB0-6C5EB80C1E15]

I've tried sending screenshots also, but they don't display.  Any ideas?
Ipad2, ios7 (we had the same problem in ios6 before updating).  This is using a gmail account, but I believe we had the same problem when she was using hotmail.

Since upgrading to 10.5.3 my email audio attachments (.wav files) won't play, however they're fine with the QT player.

  • Issue with removing attachments in mail

Since my update to Yosemite i have been experiencing a problem when removing attachments from email messages. At random a few seconds after removing the attachment the rest of the message becomes unreadable - just a bunch of random symbols and letters. This is also affecting older emails that have had the attachments removed. This happens randomly and i cant identify any one thing or file format that maybe the cause - any help would be appreciated.

Similar problem, and this seems to be common among users of this forum.
The "Remove Attachments" command does not work with sent files. This is true whether I drag a photo to the message, or use the paper-clip attachment button.
I can remove attachments from received messages. Just not sent ones.
    This is a bug, methinks.

  • Problems with pdf attachments in Mail.app

Any pdf attachment in Mail.app says it's empty and when I double click it says it can't be opened ´cause it's empty. The thing is on Windows using Thunderbird (yes I know, I've spoken the name that can't be spoken) the same attached pdf shows normally.
I have no antivirus in the mac, or any type of filtering. In fact, Mavericks was clean installed about a month ago. Attachments arrive from Gmail. From the Gmail web interface, the file is fine and opens normally.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Krischi,
    sounds good (for you).
What do you mean exactly by "deleted iCloud"?
I do experience the problem not only with my iCloud mail account, but with all others also.
Are you sure you have 7.0"3"? For me it says 7.02 is the newest and current version.

    Hi Peter,
Writing my post I made an mistake! I deleted my app CloudOn instead of iCloud and as soon I did it, I could handle my PDF attachment as before using iOS5.x!
The reason for this might be the fact, that CloudOn currently, according to the AppStore, is not upgraded to iOS 7.0.2!
Regarding iOS 7.0.3 it was a typo! I'm using 7.0.2
    Hope that helps

  • So the thing with the attachments in Mail for Mac...

    Hey guys,
I've searched and browsed for the last 2 or 3 hours to find a solution to this problem and I've seen that many others are having the same problem and no solution for it.
    What's the problem?
I'm using the standard Mail program on a Macbook Pro under OS X Mavericks and no matter how I attach a file in an eMail it will ALWAYS come as "inline" or "embedded" to the recipient. Now this bothers me **** of a lot, because the mails simply look riddiculous. I would really like to attach my .jpeg and .pdf files as ATTACHMENTS and not as pictures which then by some can't even be saved or downloaded.
    What "solutions" have I tried?
So this problem dates back to 2008 / 2009 and I'm not the only one having this issue. Apparently there are some solutions.
Here are the ones that I tried but didn't work:
setting composed mails to "plain text" rather than "rich text" - failed
clicking the embedded file and activating "view as icon" - failed
the thing with the terminal command - failed
attachments always on end of document - failed
Attachment Tamer seems to work, but causes some crashes and I'm not really happy with a third party program whose development seems to have stopped since a pre-realease build.
Now I would really, really appreciate any more ideas to solve this problem.. it is literally driving me crazy .
    So long,
    Oliver

It seems hard to control how the recipient's email program will process the attachment.  I always put my attachments at the end of the message and they stay there as far as I know, so it is not clear what causes this problem for those that experience it.
One workaround:  zip the attachment(s) and send the zipped file.  You "zip it" by selecting the file(s) control-clicking and selecting "compress".  Of course, now the recipient has to have the "unzipping" ability, which may or may not be a problem.

  • Want photo attachments to Mail to be in-line

I have tried every way I can find to attach a photo to a Mountain Lion Mail message. I've dragged from iPhoto, I've tried to copy and paste, I clicked on image and shared-email. I tried checking and unchecking save as Win friendly.
In every case I attach the image as a file, not as the image. I've even tried some of the stationary and place my photo into the message.
Any ideas what the problem is? I tried sending tests to myself, my .me account, another acct, and to my work Exchange email using Windows.

The problem here than is on the recipient's end. I would expect even the most basic email application or service to understand Plain text emails. They don't get any simpler than that.

  • Lion email with *.pct attachments causing mail to hang

    Hey all -
Though this was not and still is not an issue for mail under Snow Leopard, it seems that messages that have a *.pct (Macs PICT format for images using Apple Quick Draw apparently) are causing Lion Mail to go off to obilvion - leaving no option but for a force quit.
What's also a pain is that since Lion Mail folds notes together, a conversation that was fine is now corrupted upon the receipt of a note with the blated *.pct file.
Under Snow Leopard on a Mac Book Pro I find no issue opening these messages or even the file itself, let alone saving it or doing most other things that I have tried.   But sending this file to the Lion Email causes a serious issue as soon as I try and open that note on the Lion Mac Pro.
As it is not easy to tell what file types may or may not be attached till you see them, this is sort of like Russion Roulet email.   When the system hangs I have now learned to bring up mail on another system - even an iPad or iPhone seems ok with this - where I can read the note, save the file or otherwise clear the problem.
Because Lion want to be extra friendly and restart from where it was - I have run into the issue where it hangs on a note and then after Force Quitting it immediately leaps back onto the same problematic note - thus the need for some other system to move the note elsewhere or delete it.
Working with different *.pct files doesn't seem to matter - those that I have tried have all caused the Lion mail to hang.  Notes have of course been sent to Apple, but thus far crickets....
Wondering if anyone here has found a solution for this.  I am guessing that *.PCT files are going to be an issue for Preview too under Lion, but actually have not tried that yet.
    Cheers

Hi, as far as I can tell, that log doesn' help, just tells us Mail crashed, and is far too long to really peruse.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Open Mail>highlight the Mailbox it is in, from the Mailbox menu, choode rebuild... any change?

  • I updated my account and now emails with photo attachments are being blocked

On Sunday I received something from y'all asking me to update and I did.
Now when I go to, say, Google, there is a little green icon besidethe word saying that y'all have checked it and it is safe.
More critical. my friend has tried to send photos to me every day since Sunday and they keep getting kicked back. Her inbox has been bombarded with messages that says I didn't ask for anything from her and that I am not accepting her email

Please restart the computer and try again.
