Function call in JSP
I have a User registration form. User first enters user-ID and password of his choice. This usre-id is checked for availability by the click on a 'Check' Button. On the click event of this button I call the following function checkavail().

Logreg.Regcheck is my class that connects to the database and checks. This class is located at WEB_INF/classes/Logreg path. However when I click the button, the GlassFish server doesn't respond.As in, doesn't do anything. The page stands as it is. I presume two issues to be associated with it.
a. An entry of Regcheck class must be made in web.xml. (I don't know XML)
b. docoument.write function is failing to execute.
I have been accessing the database through other servlets, so connectivity problem with the database is definetely out of question. Could you figure what could the problem be?

Javascript is Client Browser side scripting Tool. It would not have visibility of any classes under WEB-INF/classes residing on the Server side. You current approach will not work.
Alternatively, if you want this feature, you either have to choose AJAX Call from javascript to the server passing the required information and the server can call the class under WEB-INF/classes folder to do DB operations.

I have a requirement where based on the checkBox selected or deselected in a repeater tag I would have to select or deselect other checkboxes in a netui:form. I am trying to pass the index or unique name of the checkbox to the JavaScript function. When I try this code I am getting a Syntax Error!! and getting a " item undefined" in the javascript. This works when I use just the html form tag but when I use the <netui:form> tag I am facing this issue. Any help would be highly appreciated.

If so, you are making a common but fundamental mistake. JavaScript executes on the client, not on the server. If you want client data on the server it has to get there somehow. The simplest way to do this in JSP land is via HTTP. So... have your JavaScript code call a JSP (or servlet) and pass the value you want as a URL parameter. Of course this will also change the browser location, so if you don't want this to happen use a frame or iframe to capture your HTTP request.

I'm developing a JSP application (powered by Tomcat 4.0.1 in JDK 1.3, in Eclipse 3.3). Among other stuff I have 3 classes interacting with an Oracle database, covering 3 use cases - renaming, adding and deleting an database object. The renaming class simply updates the database with a String variable it receives from the request object, whereas the other two classes perform some calculations with the request data and update the database accordingly.
When the adding or deleting classes are executed, by performing the appropriate actions through the web application, Tomcat throws the following:

...The renaming works fine though. I have checked mailing lists and forums as well as contacted the company's java support but everything I have tried out so far, from exchanging the xerces.jar files found in JDOM and Tomcat to rebuidling the project didn't help.
I just can't explain to myself why this error occurs and I don't see how some additional Java code in the other 2 classes could cause it?
I realize that the Tomcat and JDK versions I'm using are totally out of date, but that's company's current standard and I can't really change that.

}After further googling I figured out what was causing the problem: in eclipse I was referring to external libraries located in eclipse/plugins directory, whereas Tomcat was referring to the same libraries (possibly older versions) in it's common/lib directory.

Call a JSP from applet and display the results in the browser
Hello All,
I have written an applet which performs some functionality at the clinets browser. When the applets method finishes exectution, I would like to call
a jsp. The results of the JSP should be displayed like a normal page in the browser.
I tried creating a HttpURLConnection and calling the jsp but two things happened
1. The jsp call failed because the applet doesn't have a valid session id.
2. even if I disable the valid user check at the jsp, the results of the jsp are returned as a set of bytes to the applet. They are not displayed in the browser window.
Then I tried applet.getAppletContext().showDocument()... However with this api I cannot do a POST operation on the JSP with some input data because this takes only a URL as an input parameter.
Please help me in this problem and I will be very gratefull to you.
1. applet uses the same session id as the browser so that when applet makes a request to the jsp it does not get user invalid exception.
2. the results of the jsp are displayed on the browser and not given to the applet.

Below is the problem that i am facing:
Problem:
I want to open a new url from a java class.
I have a java class. I am calling a jsp from this java class. JSP does some validations and after these validations, opens a url in new window. But I want to append some runtime parameters in the url and pass it through post method in jsp so that end user cannot see these parameters. Can any one tell me how to code for this schenario?
Class A calls X.jsp

1. do some validations
2. call some javascript function
3. append the parameters in the url using dopost method
One more thing to mention, when calling this jsp, i need to show this jsp to user, therefore there would not be any event in this jsp. I need soluions for following points:
1. Without occurance of any event, my javascript function must be called
2. desired parameters must be appended in the url
3. New url should be opened and the parameters should not be visible to end user.(ie parameters need to be passed via post method in jsp)

RajeevYou are all mixed up. Here's how it works: a JSP is a program that executes on your server. It generates HTML (which may include Javascript) and sends that to the client, most likely a browser. When it has finished generating and sending all that HTML, the browser accepts it and renders it. The browser may execute Javascript as it renders the HTML, or it may execute Javascript later upon a click or mouse action or whatever.
So your idea that the JSP will execute some Javascript is a non-starter. And that business about the JSP appending parameters and using the POST method is all backwards, unless perhaps you meant that the JSP would generate HTML containing a form that does that.
Anyway you need to clarify your thought based on how things actually work. Confounding the two phases (generating HTML on the server, rendering it on the client) will make it very difficult for you to get anywhere. -
Implementation of type-ahead functionality in Endeca JSP Ref application

I am trying to implement the type-ahead functionality in Endeca jsp reference application which Oracle is shipping with it's products. The type-ahead functionality is not present by default. Can anyone help me to implement the same thing or provide sample code/strategy to achieve the desired results ?
Basically typeahead functionality is present in Endeca Information's quick start's search box (EID) but not it JSP reference application .

HoqueType-ahead functionality can mean different things and be implemented in different ways. It is usually based on what behavior your user-space would benefit from.
In the commerce space, one popular use-case is to return Category matches based on what a user has started typing. Within Endeca, this boils down to doing a dimension search and having the Category dimension enabled for dimension search. If a user starts typing "cam", the type-ahead would then recommend:
Category: Cameras
You can match on multiple dimensions though, so long as they are enabled for dimension search. For example, if a user starts typing "ca", the type-ahead could return:
Category: Cameras
Brand: Canon
Furthermore, this behavior can be extended by enabling Compound Dimension Search. Compound Dimension Search is enabled via a flag on the dgidx process and on your ENEQuery. It provides the following behavior. If a user searches for "canon cam", it would suggest:
Category: Cameras + Brand: Canon
Clicking on the type-ahead would return the intersection of Category = Cameras and Brand = Canon, eliminating a click if the user is after Canon brand Cameras.
With regards to implementation, it basically boils down to an AJAX call to a service/URL that responds with dimension search results. Then populate an empty <div> with links.
Other scenarios involve returning Product/Record matches instead of Dimension matches.

Can you provide us the exact information about the implementation version and Ant-version of the cesession.jar file that you are using.
This could be observed by opening the jar file using winrar or winzip, then go to the MANIFEST.MF file present inside META-INF folder.
Once you will open the MANIFEST.MF file, please let us know the first seven lines present inside the same fle.

But I am getting a result like this:

but missing <2>child
because the while loop doesn't continous looping after the 1.1.
please help me out

When you call the method recursively, the second call makes a second query to the database, before you have finished using the ResultSet from the first query. Since you are using the same Statement, executing the second query causes the first query to, um, disappear.
The API documentation for java.sql.Statement says this: "Only one ResultSet object per Statement object can be open at any point in time. Therefore, if the reading of one ResultSet object is interleaved with the reading of another, each must have been generated by different Statement objects. All statement execute methods implicitly close a statment's current ResultSet object if an open one exists."

}New I think every recursive call will have it's own statement and resultSet but I am still getting same problem. The while loop stopped when calls reached first base case. Does anybody know why. I expect, assume that while loop will go next when a call reaches the base case which will return "".
