Function of text buttons in Video browse pane???

This has been driving me crazy. What is the function of the set of text buttons above the 3 video browse lists in iTunes? Specifically, the one to the right of the vertical bar. The ones to the left seem to filter the list of videos when selected (All, Movies, Music Videos, Podcasts, TV Shows), but the other one to the right don't seem to do anything, other than change based on what is selected to the left. Anyone know what these things are for?

I think those buttons determine how the search function behaves.
In other words, whatever you have selected is the field that will be searched.

How to create text buttons that link to video?

I've finally gotten around to trying DVD SP, and even though I read the whole manual, it's not at all clear if, or how, you can create text buttons that link to the video you want to play, without displaying a clip of that video in the button itself.
I have no problem creating a text button, but I can't change the font, and editing is counter-intuitive, unlike iDVD. I'd use iDVD, but it doesn't accept .m2v files, and it seems to think that my 6 videos of about 43 minutes each are too large for a DVD+DL disc, so it won't let me burn it or save it as a disc image.
Does anyone have a way out of this conundrum, or am I SOL?

It really isn't that hard!
As Drew said, go into your menu and click and drag to create a button rectangle. With the button highlighted, look in the property inspector at the bottom and type in the text that you want to use. Ensure that you 'include in button highlight' and then set the colour choice for selected and activated.
What you get is a simple line of text which illuminates when you roll over it, and changes colour when you click on it.
Once that is done, click on the button area again and set the target to go to the piece of video that you want to have play back.
You should also set the menu call and end jump on that track to make sure your viewer can get back to the menu.
Once that is done the menu will show as a simple piece of text (more buttons means more bits of text, and the first button will be highlighted by default) and no video will play until the button is activated.
DVDSP is definitely a steeper learning curve than iDVD but for very good reasons. You get far greater control and access to far more advanced features in DVDSP. This means that some things will seem harder, whereas in fact they are just different and the process for achieving the result you want is different. Much of what you want to know is in the manual and also in the tutorials which came with the app. Failing that there are several good online spaces where you can find a lot more information... not least of which is right here, of course!

Without a link, it's anybody's guess.
It could be a problem the video rendering itself. Which software did you use?
Did you export to the 3 file types -- MP4, OGG and WEBM to support all browsers?
Does your web server support those 3 MIME file types?

'Resume' function (buttons over video / white rabbit)

The resume function takes me back to the last chapter marker passed in the track I was viewing previously. Is it supposed to work like that? I thought it would take me bak to the last moment viewed (give or take several frames).
I've got a video track, I use buttons over video to jump to a menu with video background. When the menu times out I run a script that just states 'resume', but it will only go to the last chapter marker passed. Some of my white rabbit videos are several minutes long so that's not very helpful.
From what I understand you can only resume from a menu?
I've had another look at The Matrix and note that after a white rabbit it always returns to exactly the same point in the main movie as though there were a chapter marker there... but no chapter marker exists at those points so what did the authors of the Matrix DVD use to target that return point?

After trying all sorts of combinations to get 'resume' working, all I can imagine is it's not properly implimented in DVDSP or it's not properly supported by players.
A button on a menu with a target or 'resume' should according to the DVDSP manuals return to the point the user was at in a track when the menu was launched (see quote below).
I've tested on 3 hardware players as well as a PC player and Apple's own DVD player. Only a sony DVD recorder resumed to the correct place in the video track. The only other possibility I can imagine is that the buttons over video are in some way causing the problem when resuming? I noticed when the sony did resume to the correct point the subtitle stream being used for the buttons over video was no longer visible (even though a prescript on the track was forcing them to show)

i plan to Design an app that can support voice + video + text chat on a browser.
i want the application to be :-
Let users chat via text
Lets them talk via voice
Lets them see each others video
Please guide on how to go about such a system.
is there an open source variant available?
Do I use a third party api like meebo, jabber or other voip /sip based softwares or write my own stuff ?

If it has a cloud icon it means its no longer on your device. Tapping on the cloud will effectively reinstall the App from scratch to your device.
There is no way to remove it from the cloud because its not yours to remove from there. Its the general App repository, you are just given access to it to download content you've already purchased.

Linking Buttons to Video

I'm new to Flash and i need some help please! I've been
through loads of tutorials but can't find exactly what i need.
I'm creating a virtual tour of my website. I've done the
intro as a simple timeline with animation text etc, but now what i
want to do is have 6 buttons, which when you click on, they open up
individual movies. I've created the buttons as our logo icon...when
you click on one i'd like it to be able to simultaneously open up a
video (which i've imported so it's FLV) and two mp3 files ( a
narration and a music clip).
So how do i 'pause' the main timeline once the intro has
completed, and how to i then link buttons to video and audio? Think
i need specific code for it?

this has to be relatively simple but I have looked everywhere and can't
find a solution.
One would think so, but unfortunately not, as you have to use a combination of actionscript in your flv creation and javascript on the browser side to do this.
If you have a working solution in flash, it would probably be easier to insert this into your dreamweaver page and ensure that the links to your videos are relative to the position of the files in your html page.

Setting Jbuttons to function as keyboard buttons

I would like to know how I can set a jbutton to function as a keyboard button. In my application I have a keyboard with alpha numeric keys with
"Shift" "Caps" "Enter" and all that. I want them to function as keyboard buttons, like when I press the jbutton labled "A" it should print "A" on my the text area of my program. if I press Shift and then "A", it should print "a" in my text area. same with all the rest of the buttons. It should be like a on-Screen Keyboard. can anybody help me with this. I will be greatfull

The buttons are named Q2 and Q4 and are placed in a different cell then the content (both BOLD in the code)
How do I assign these two buttons to make the text scrollable in the cell?
You can't do this with HTML alone. Scrollbars are a browser function.
The best you can do is wrap content in a division with CSS height and overflow properties.

Ah! I am working on a Spanish Video Project and the iMovie text button on the right hand side doesn't seem to be working. It always crashes the system. But, thankfully my work has always been saved. How to add a text area in a Content pane..?

I created a content pane with 5 buttons. One of them is a quit button, and I was able to create an "system.exit(0)" event handling for him. My problem is.. I have 4 other buttons, and I want them to show some text when I click them. How do I add a text area bellow my content pane..?

By default the content pane of the JFrame uses a Border Layout. So you should:
1) Create a JPanel
2) Set the layout of the JPanel to FlowLayout
3) add the buttons to the panel
4) add the panel to the content pane
5) add your text area to the content pane

I do a lot of research using Wikipedia articles. Sometimes those articles have video attached. When I click on the play button of the image, it opens a floating window with the first frame of the video, but it's not moving. A thin banner at the top of it me: "For a better video playback experience we recommend a [ HTML5 video browser". And touching the play button ( hoping it might play anyway) has no effect. It will not play.
Is HTML5 a PC/Windows only format? Or is there an App that will alow me to use these videos on my iPad mini? I've spend 6 hours already trying to find out what I can do about this, and I've made zero progress. I've checked out a handful of apps in the app store, and don't even know what I'm looking at. I got the Wikipedia app for mobile devices, and it doesn't offer the videos in the truncated articles it provides. I've spoken to several Apple techs at the Applecare phone number, and no one there seems to know anything about it.

I downloader a VLS Streamer from the Apple app store. It requires some kind of helper software to run, which, as far as I can tell from the video at the developer's site, allows one to download content from one's mobile device to their computer. Since I don't have a compatible computer for my iPad to link to, the instructions don't help my situation. I emailed them with my query and will probably hear from them sometime this week.
I've lived with this problem for the 3 months I've had my iPad, and I'll keep after it until I have a solution. But right now, I've run out of steam. If this lead helps me to resolve my issue, I'll come back and HELPFUL or RESOLVED every response you've given. I'm very grateful for your help. Sorry I'm so utterly clueless.

How to create an interactive pdf, hyperlinking text to a video on a usb drive?

Creating an interactive pdf in InDesign CS6, hyperlinking text to a video. Both pdf and video placed on a usb thumbdrive. When clicking link on Mac a warning box came up, but after clicking Allow the video played fine. On PC the warning box also came up but clicking Allow did nothing

You'll need to use startDrag and stopDrag in order to be able to move an object (the slider handle). You will need to specify a rectangle that has 0 height for the drag limits. The width of that rectangle will define the maximum value of the scroll (which will be the maximum value of your scale.
Assuming you will have a linear scale for values along the drag line, the math is fairly easy to manage. The x property of the handle at the minimum slider position should be 0. You use the ratio of the current x position of the slider handle to the full width to determine what value to assign ( ex: ratio = handle.x / rectangleWidth). So if the minimum value is 1K and the maximum value in 10K, you essentially have 9K represented by the length of the line, so the value provided by the slider position at any point along that line would be 1K + (ratio * 9K)
You can use a MOUSE_MOVE event listener that you assign when the slider's MOUSE_DOWN event occurs to update the textfield as the slider is moved. You can remove the MOUSE_MOVE listener when the slider's MOUSE_UP event occurs.
So, in summary, you need to look into the startDrag and stopDrag methods, which will be inititiated using MOUSE_DOWN and MOUSE_UP events, respectively. The MOUSE_DOWN event will create a MOUSE_MOVE listener that you will use to have a function continually update the textfield value displayed, while the MOUSE_UP event will have that MOUSE_MOVE listener removed. The ratio of the x property of the slider to the total slideable distance will be used to determine the current value that the MOUSE_MOVE event handler assigns to the textfield display.

ITunes hang or kernal panic when minimizing "video viewer" pane

Does anyone else have this happen?
When playing a video in iTunes in the minimized view (small pane in lower left), if the button to hide the pane (which says "Show or hide item artwork or video viewer." if hovered over) is clicked, the pane begins to slide down, stops part way and hangs for an irregular amount of time, sometimes eventually completing, and sometimes resulting in a Kernel Panic.
This has happened for as long as I can remember, through various OS and iTunes updates.
I try to avoid using the button at all, and if I need to minimize it I generally try to select a song first (to switch the pane to showing album art) so I can minimize it safely.
If anyone has experienced this and/or solved it, I would love to hear about it.

YES!!! I have the exact same issue. Minimizing iTunes Video Viewer pane causes two replicable issues:
1) system slows to a near halt and then resumes normal activity when opening or closing the pane, and
2) kernel panic.
Looking at my logs now I find a different entry for each issue. When the computer crashes (i.e. kernel panic), the /Library/Logs/panic.log reads:

When the computer grinds to a halt but doesn't crash, the system log reports
kernel[0]: Graphics chip error! Restarted. <note: message repeats 8 times in the log!>
My guess is either a video codec is screwing everything up or the graphics card has gone sour. I tried eliminating the latest Divx and 3Vix codecs but the issue continues. I have installed some other codec libraries (ffmpeg and others), I am going to weed out as many as I can to try to eliminate the issue. Otherwise, it's off to AppleCare for a new graphics card.

Selected/activated button overlay in Buttons over Video

I have six different buttons over video, with one overlay.
The buttons are assigned to each of six audio tracks.
When I select and activate a button the overlay goes from white to red, and the audio changes to the specified audio track. So far, so good. But, when I want to select another button, the red overlay disappears, and I see the selected buttons white overlay. This is of course "default", but I'd like the red overlay to stay, indicating that I'm still listening to that audio track, even if I'm choosing between another button.
Can this be done somehow? I'm thinking that perhaps I can add a subtitle that tells me what Track I have selected, but the overlay is already a subtitle...
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Only one button can be "selected" at a time, meaning when people scroll through the selections on the menu there is an indication of where they are/what they are about to press when they hit enter.

Same general concept applies to buttons over video. Only one state active at a time, and subtitles will not work since the buttons are a subtitle stream (of course you can use add text in the overlay for the buttons) Page 460 of the PDF

Playing movie with text button

I'm trying to get a movie to start once I click on a text button (play movie). So far I have this code in place and it is working. I just need to know the function necessary to start the movie to put in place of the comment I have below.

If the movie that is supposed to play is the one containing the button, then you can just put play(); inside the function. But if it is some other movie, you'll need to target that movie by its instance name... mcName.play();
