Function palette polymorphic vi missing icon

Hi,
I have a problem that every polymorphic VI that I put on function palette is missing icon (question mark is displayed). All other VIs icons are displayed correctly. Of course, polymorphic VI exists on the specified path and its icon is the same as the icon of its sub-VIs.
I have LV2012.

Dear andrej!
Since we have the VI Package Manager and the inside this the VI Package Builder tool, I recommend to use these to insert a new element (or submenu) into the function panel.
Here you can find a very detailed Hands-on about the topic: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-17536

  • Vision Acquisition Software installed, BUT why is the IMAQdx missing from the function palette?

    I just installed to the labview 2011, and many other modules and softwares including this VASAugust2010. But the IMAQdx is missing from the function palette (vision and motion). However the NI-IMAQ 4.5, IN-IMAQ IO 2.4.0 and NI-IMAQdx 3.7 are all clearly listed as installed in the NI software (contorl panel -> program - NI). In MAX, my usb webcam is also listed as NI-IMAQdx Devices and works well under MAX. But my own program is broken because the LV can't find those functions. So why the IMAQdx funtion is missing and how to fix it?
    Thanks,

  • Change Folder Icon in Functions Palette

    Hey, have two questions.  I'm writing an instrument driver for an instrument I have here at work, and I have the VI's working.  I have the VIs organized and inserted into a library, which is in a project including that library and an examples folder (so basically the way Labview downloaded instrument drivers are set up).  I put all this in the instr.lib folder, and the VIs show up in the functions palette just fine.  So, based on that setup, my questions are:
    1) How do I change the folder icons (not the VI Icons - already did that) in the functions palette?
    2) How do LV instrument drivers hide the "Examples" folder and simply display the VIs from the "Public" Folder?  (they don't appear to be marked private)
    Thanks!
    TG

    I think the secret is in having an mnu file, which defines what will appear in the palettes. You can create one by editing the palettes (under Tools>>Advanced) and there you should be able to remove items and to edit the palette icon by right clicking it. You should probably also make sure that the mnu file is saved in the same folder, so that you can have it in other PCs. Note that the palette editor has this annoying confirmation dialog which tends to hide under other windows and which you need to get to finish editing, so move it to somewhere you can find it before you start editing.
    Another option is using VIPM to install the driver, and that will also allow you to edit a palette.

  • Serial PDA function sub palette missing from Functions Palette in PDA Module 8.0

    Hi:
    I have a problem that I would like to solve without having to reinstall PDA module.  Under the functions palette, Instrument I/O ... I have the Serial Compatability sub palette there but the VISA and the Serial ones are now questions marks instead of a sub palette.  Has anyone had this problem and if so how is it fixed.   If I copy and paste the VI's from Labview 8.0 (for PC) to the PDA vi I'm writing, they seem to work fine but what a pain that is ... anyone have an suggestions?  Thanks
    Greycat

    Hello Greycat,
    The subpalettes for the VISA and Serial subVIs are suppose to be
    unavailable if your target is a PDA device.  LabVIEW loads a
    seperate palette set for each target.  Since VISA is currently not
    supported on the PDA, you cannot directly open the the VISA functions
    or the Serial functions when you are targeting a PDA device.
    Instead, you can use the Serial Compatibility VIs, which then call the
    appropriate VISA calls.
    Hope

    Hi Ewan,
    Uninstalling and reinstalling in the right order would ensure that everything was properly associated. However, I don't think that should be necessary yet in your situation. Please go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > National Instruments Software to see the full list of National Instruments software you have installed. From here you should be able to select any individual installation from the list and select "Repair". Instead of just seeing that something is already installed and exiting, this should go through the installation and check for corruption. As well, this should add the correct associations if they were currently missed due to the order of installation.
    Please try running a repair of SignalExpress 2013 and restarting your computer, then check to see if the functions palette in LabVIEW is fully populated.
    Thanks!

  • No DMM functions in functions palette

    Good Morning,
    I'm VERY new to labview but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Anyway i've been searching for hours and have been unable to find a solution to my issue.
    I'm running a NI PXIe-1078 chassis with PXIe-8101 controller
    I'm trying to program data aquisition for my PXI-4071 DMM in my Labview project but there are no functions in the functions palette.
    I installed the NI-DMM 3.0.5 driver and can see the device connected in MAX. I can even use the soft panel and take measurements from the PXI-4071.
    For the other devices i have installing the driver put the functions in the functions palette but for some reason they are all missing for the DMM.
    I've tried using the DAQmx and searching for an analog input channel but it is not on the list.
    please help!
    Sincerely,
    Michael Reed

    It sounds like a "corrupt" installation of NI DMM (see paragraph below).
    Please note that NI DMM 3.0.5 is out-dated, so you should get a more recent version.
    When installing a new system, NI recommends to start with the developement environments and in the last step to install all desired drivers. Following this ensures that the installer of the drivers can detect the installed ADEs and select to install the APIs for these. If you swap install order, the APIs are not installed with the driver, leaving the ADE blank (no examples, no palettes).
    You can install the APIs in a second iteration, but that is an effort you should only put into the system when installing a new version of an ADE.

  • Modify function palette quickly?

    Hi, everyone
    I got a boring question when I modifying the function palette.
    Now I'm developing an instrument driver with LabVIEW7.0.
    I have an old version of its driver, so only I need to do is to update it, as the function palette.
    For example, the prefix of the old version driver is xyz2000, this time I should change it to xyz1000.
    But when I change the folder name to xyz1000(originally is xyz2000) and open the old version driver with LabVIEW,
    the function palette is full of [?]icon.
    Therefore I try to modify the following original xyz2000 mnu files with UE(text editor),
    I simply think if I replace all the [xyz2000] to [xyz1000] is just ok, but I failed.
    I got something like"memory is not enought" error.
    acstat.mnu
    applic.mnu
    config.mnu
    data.mnu
    dir.mnu
    util.mnu
    Does everyone have some ideas how to modify the function palette quickly in my case?
    Cause I think insert all the vis one by one again to function palette is a boring job ^o^, no easier way(just like modify the mnu file)?
    Help me plz, thank you

    This unfortunately doesn't apply to LV7.0, but there was a new feature in LV8.6 (it may have been in 8.5) for editing palettes much more quickly and easily. It was a VI-based set of functions for editing palettes. This would enable you to write a quick utility to manage your palette files and rename things more quickly and easily as you like.

  • EXIT not found in the function palette!

    Some thing wiered problem am facing. Am having a large application in that I have a main VI and a llb file that I am calling dynamically from a folder. When I right click the block diagram in the main vi an seeing the EXIT function in the function palette but when I do the same thing in the library file its missing. Please check the attached image and please let me know what might be the reason for this.
    Thanks
    The best solution is the one you find it by yourself

    I have not achieved to reproduce this. Can you post the VI which is affected?
    Is it also affected if you copy it outside the LLB?

  • Functions Palette Broken

    I have LabVIEW 2012 Student Edition, Version 12.0f3 (32-bit), running on Windows 7 64-bit.
    When I click the "Initialize Array" icon on the functions palette, LabVIEW selects "Index Array" instead. How can I fix this?
    Here is a picture of the mouse hovering over the "Initialize Array" icon, and the Context Help displaying information on the "Index Array" function.

    I managed to solve the problem, although I'm entirely sure how.
    I think that when I installed a package it changed the available functions on the functions palette. Uninstalling the package seems to have fixed the problem.

  • Image Processing and machine vision don't appear in Function Palette

    Hi,
    I have problem and I can't solve it
    Image Processing and machine vision don't appear in Function Palette, Although I set up NI imaq and NI Vision Acquisition Why??
    Anyone can help me?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If the image is already a Grayscale U8 image you would just have to save it to a bitmap file using the IMAQ WriteFile VI. If not, use the IMAQ Cast Image VI to convert it to a Grayscale U8 and then save it.
    Also, it would probably be better to create a new thread for questions like these.

  • Win 7 "Default Programs" does not include MS Office 2007 Programs, the missing Programs are missing ICONs as well

    I installed Windows 7 in an upgrade from Windows XP.  As part of the process MS gave me a URL to download a Office 2007 Pro I could activate with the license key I owned.  I got similar URLs for Visio Professional and Project Professional.
    Downloaded, installed, activated, started the programs.
    From the beginning some of the icons were missing.  Like the icons for Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point, Publisher, Visio, and of course Project.  I tried most of the answers in this forum, that didn't sound like guesswork, and none of
    them solved either problem.  There must be at least 65 guesses to fix the icon problem, but none with the missing Default Programs problem.
    The programs related to the missing "Default Programs" still work, they startup when you select the related document.  If I check "Associate a File Type or Protocol with a Specific Program" the missing Office 2007 programs are listed
    there, associated with the designated programs, but are missing icons.
    I make it a habit not to pay a vendor for a product so that I can have the privilege of fixing the vendor's problems.   Google tells me these are well known problems.  The only thing missing is the answer.  I won't ever use MS chat or telephone,
    because all they do is tell me why they can't help and transfer me elsewhere.
    Does anyone have a REAL answer please?

    To restore office icons you could try this method
    http://transitionmarketing.wordpress.com/2013/01/16/restoring-microsoft-office-icons/
    I had the same problem with Office 2010 programs not showing in "Set Your Default Programs". No other "fixes" (including repair) worked. Found this thread:
    http://www.sevenforums.com/microsoft-office/222503-office-2010-not-listed-default-programs.html
    and used it as a guide. When you look at this key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\RegisteredApplications
    you will see a list of software pointing to another HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry key. For example, my Word program was showing up as "Word.Application.14" and pointing to Software\Clients\Word Processing\Microsoft Word\Capabilities
    (In contrast, PastorMike's fix in the link above advocates making a new entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Capabilities. However, OneNote did appear in my "Set Your Default Programs" and it - and the other Office programs
    - were listed under ..\Software\Clients\... and not ...\Software\Microsoft\...)
    So at this point I went my own way (although maybe PastorMike's fix would also work).
    The difference between OneNote and the other programs was the existence of values for "ApplicationName"  and "ApplicationDescription" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Word Processing\Microsoft Word\Capabilities. Also, for OneNote
    there was a "FileAssociations" sub-key that was missing from the other programs.
    It is setting the values for ApplicationName and ApplicationDescription which cause the program to show up in the list in the left pane of "Set Your Default Programs". And it is the file associations in the FileAssociations key that allows resetting
    associations en masse when they are snaffled by another program.
    Below is the reg file I added for Word 2010. (i used similar for the other programs) After doing this, Word appeared after reopening "Set Default Programs" - no reboot required
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Word Processing\Microsoft Word\Capabilities]
    "ApplicationDescription"="Create and edit professional-looking documents such as letters, papers, reports, and booklets by using Microsoft Word."
    "ApplicationName"="Microsoft Word 2010"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Word Processing\Microsoft Word\Capabilities\FileAssociations]
    ".doc"="Word.Document.8"
    ".dochtml"="wordhtmlfile"
    ".docm"="Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12"
    ".docmhtml"="wordmhtmlfile"
    ".docx"="Word.Document.12"
    ".docxml"="wordxmlfile"
    ".dot"="Word.Template.8"
    ".dothtml"="wordhtmltemplate"
    ".dotm"="Word.TemplateMacroEnabled.12"
    ".dotx"="Word.Template.12"
    ".htm"="wordhtmlfile"
    ".html"="wordhtmlfile"
    ".odt"="Word.OpenDocumentText.12"
    ".rtf"="Word.RTF.8"
    ".wbk"="Word.Backup.8"
    ".wiz"="Word.Wizard.8"
    ".wll"="Word.Addin.8"
    By using my ramblings and the link provided above you may be able fix the problem you are having with Office 2007. However, I am unsure of how to find the necessary file associations for Office 2007 except by trawling through your registry for the filetypes
    listed in the link above and the values for them in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.

  • "in port" and "out port" VIs are not in the functions palette!

    Hi,
    I am using LabVIEW 2012 on a Win 7 64 bit. I want to read a digital input (3.5V) using PC parallel port. I also read this white paper:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/B937AC4D8664E37886257206000551CB
    I searched all the functions palette for “in port” and “out port” VIs but I could not find them. Apparently they are not supported in 64bit OS. What are my alternatives for reading digital input via PC parallel port?
    Thanks.

    They have not been supported for quite some time. What happens when you use the recommended VISA api?

  • How can I restore missing icons?

    The Skype icon has been replaced with the default paper, pencil, paintbrush icon. It shows this way in the dock and when i search for it in the finder. The program still works normally. If I duplicate the app, the Skype icon shows properly on the dupe version. If I then delete the old one and then rename the copy to "Skype" instead of "Skype copy," then it returns to the missing icon. I Googled this issue and everyone seems to have a different answer. I ran disk permission repair and that did nothing. I'm weary of doing anything with the terminal unless I know for sure it is a fix. Thanks.

    So if you duplicate the Skype app the correct icon is seen, but if you rename it back to Skype you lose the icon again?
