Hi
Can anybody tell me where I can find the SolMan consultant implementation cook book. I am basically looking from a functional consultant perpective, the configuration setup that need to be done to implement SolMan, we are implementing CHaRM and Monitoring.
Also I like to ask, what sequence I need to follow to implement the SolMan. Please provide the steps and the documents that I should refer to.
Appreciate your valuable and quick response.
BR- Bill

the configuration setup that need to be done to implement SolMan, we are implementing CHaRM and Monitoring
Monitoring requires Basis knowledge and Charm is a CRM scenario
what sequence I need to follow to implement the SolMan.
I would start with Monitoring, Service desk , Charm , Root Cause Analysis (Basis scenario). These are the opertional side of Solman.
Functional side
Implementation of SAP Solutions includes Project Administration, Business Process mapping and Blueprinting etc

  • Role of a Functional Consultant in ESS/MSS in a implementation project

    Dear Guru's,
Please help me understand what is the role of a Functional Consultant in ESS/MSS in a implementation project. would be great if any documentation is available. i have building blocks and other stuff which i got from this network, but iam confused looking at them, most of them talk about technical stuff. please give me a functional insight of a Functional Consultant in ESS/MSS.
    Thanks,
    vinay

    hi
the link above mentions the in general role of a functional consultant. But for Ess/Mss , First understand that the technical aspects are there as it would be for any other HCM module . Functional aspect comes into picture to show the functionality to the end user and also to modify the same as per business needs. Sap has given certain functionality which is common in case of few countries and common to the HR world in general. As a functional consultant your role would be to demonstrate and configure the needed functionality to the business.
A very simple example would be , talking about the who's who functionality. The output you see can be altered according to business needs by means of authoirization or customizing the columns which appear on the ouptut (e.g Change the columns as per business needs)
Hope this simple words make your doubt clear.

  • PMS Implementation& role of a functional consultant

    Hi Experts,
Please share your idea on Functional consultant role on PMS Implementation.
What are the configurations we need to setup as a functional consultant.
Please let me know the steps to be defined.
Please advice me on a better implementation.
    Thanks and regards,
    Sairam.

    Hi
PMS in sap HCM is for performance Management System.
The role of the consultant here will be to create the appraisal Templates.
PMS based on OSA( objective settings and Appraisal) has few standard switches that have to be activated.
based on the requirement of the client we can create different appraisal templates.
the T code is PHAP_catalog using this T code one can have the templates created for learning solutions as well
T code PHAP_CATALOG_PA is used exclusively for personnel appraisals.
in this we have to create the new category and template as per the clients requirement.
once the template is created we have to release the same to activate the template.
once released we will not be allowed to make any changes to the template once activated
to view the status of the released template we can use the T code PHAP_admin.
(honestly this is just a brief of what can happen in PMS. there is lots more)
    All the best to you

  • Solution Manager for a Functional Consultant

    Hai Friends
I am currently working as an SAP-MM consultant. I want to learn SOLMAN.
    My queries are
Where can I get Study material for SOLMAN ?(apart from help.sap.com)
How SOLMAN helps for a Functional Consultant in implementatin ?
details regarding certification in SOLMAN ?
    Thanks
    Sukumaran.E

    Hello Sukumaran,
There are certainly loads of resource which can help you to get fit for the topic.
I will point out some of them for you:
    <b>Certification Program</b>
    <a href="http://service.sap.com/certification">http://service.sap.com/certification</a>
SAP Consultant Certification -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP Solution Manager 4.0 - Solution Manager Implementation Tools.
This requires you to take the SMI310 as preparatory course which is the SAP Solution Manager course that goes through the intire range of implementation and configuration support provided by SAP Solution Manager.
    <b>RKT material</b>
The ramp-up knowledge transfer material (RKT) consists of role-specific information on a variety of SAP Solution Manager topics.
    <a href="http://service.sap.com/rkt-solman">http://service.sap.com/rkt-solman</a>
Concentrate on SAP Solution Manager 4.0 release and the product offerings for the Solution consultant role. Check the must know section and for a functional insight into the project functionality I'd recommend the tutor <i>SAP Solution Manager in an implementation project</i> and for a methodological insight the tutors on roadmap usage.
    <b>Additional information</b>
Can be obtained via <u></u><a href="http://service.sap.com/solutionmanager">http://service.sap.com/solutionmanager</a>, check out the media libary and for some general questions the FAQ section.
This should help you to get started. Good look for your upcoming taks!

  • Thought of functional consultant Vs abap

    Dear All,
I am techno functional consultant. I thought and very funny sometimes, but its bad habit to laugh on anyone.
Thought of Functional consultant: I have requirement of  report X in which when user create PO--->make GR> take print then it should show on report. sometime they tell only process on paper or screen shot only.
Thought of technical consultant (ABAPer): I don't know how to create PO, once they create PO where data flow, how many table involved, what are triggering point; next process trigger after which process finished.
    What you people feels?
    Regards
    Sanjeet Kumar

    Hi Sanjeet,
I for one dislike these nonpredicative occupational titles, because they invoke pigeonholding. At that, I can't claim to be completely free of stereotypical thinking, but I'm trying to see the bigger picture.
IMHO it all depends on what you actually do that defines you, not the other way around.
Taking myself for an example, on paper I'm an Application Developer. Thus, most people automatically think "Look that fellow is an "ABAPer", he programs in "ABAP 'n Stuff!" and that's about it and that kind of upsets me, because, what I actually do is:
Analyzing and Optimizing Business Processes (Functional Consultant?)
Creating Main and Detailed Concepts including all kinds of Analyses concerning the IT-Infrastructure, Risks, Consequences, etc. (Solution Architect?)
Application Design (Architectual Pattern, User Interface) (Application Designer?)
Implementation of the Design with all kinds of different techniques including "normal" programming (Application Developer?, Technical Consultant?, <include numerous high-sounding occupational titles for each particular technique>)
Maintenance / Scaling (Third Level Support?)
So, maybe, I should start calling myself Super-Duper Techno Functional Solution Architect Supporter or something like that. But would that be any better or any more descriptive? :-/
    Cheers, Lukas

  • MM Functional Consultant

    Dear All,
Please explain me the functions of a MM Functional consultant in any SAP Implementation ??????  What r all his responsibilities ?? PLease explain
    Regards,
    Somu

    Hi,
Both business consultant and functional consultant have process domain knowledge. But they differ in the kind of work they do.
A business consultant will analyse a process and its problems and consult on process reengineering or modulation for better productivity and efficiency.
Whereas a Functional consultant will use his domain knowledge to understand the business process and then map the tool which enhances the process. He might be required to customize the tool to meet process requirement but not vice versa.

  • I am looking to build my career as a Functional Consultant in Oracle SCM-OM

    Hello ,
As in Subject i just briefed about my expectation.I just want to give little more info about my tenure so far.I am a BSc(in Bio science) holder with close to 6 years of Operational experience.I have worked in SAP platform for OM and later i have worked in Software Licensing in Oracle R12.I am a SQL certified from OU. I have read couple of post from OTN and some other sites aswel just to know how could i start learn about Consultant role.I tried to find out if i can get in touch with any person who is a Functional consultant and learn from him/her with real time implementation.I have checked in some of Oracle authorized training centers where the cost is too high but not sure whether learning from there will be useful. Please let me know whether my expectation could be fulfill and suggest me the best way to learn also.
Thanks in advance for your time & reply.
    Souvik Ghosh

The first query points to many threads where a similar question has been asked. You can change the query search words to get more hits.
If you are looking specifically for OM, it will also help if you network with some non-IT guys to understand how, in general, Order Management is used in various industries. You can talk to Order Entry clerks to understand order taking process (such as customer calls, they create a quote, customer approves, quote is turned into order), you can talk to Warehouse personnel to understand order shipping process (Such as order ship date nears, they run a report to find which orders need to ship in the next x days, they generate pick tickets to get material, they generate packing slips, generate invoices, shipping notices etc.)
Talk to some AR folks to understand credit processes and invoice /collection processes.
These folks don't have to use Oracle. What you are looking for a generic understanding of how the business /processes work.

    See the answers below
    > 1)     Does eSOA is a tool, application or module?
ESOA is not any tool, application or module. Its a methodology/Architecture
    > 2)     What is the relation between eSOA and ECC6.0?
ECC 6.0 provides some Enterprises Services through enhancement packages.
    > 3)     What is the Scope/Role for Functional Consultants in eSOA?
FUnctional consultant should know which ENterprise Serrvices are available and which should be developed to carry out a business process.
    > 4)     What I have to learn in eSOA?
.         Being a technical guy, there are things to be learnt like ESR, implementing designed serivces through ABAP or Java and consuming it. But being a functional guy, only awareness of what enterprise services are available and what they do and their input/output params and how they can fit into a business process is sufficient.

    see above
    > 6)     How it is useful for Customers?
Customers can move towards Service Oriented Architecture, get flexibility in changing a business process easily, maintaince cost is less

  • Difference in roles of functional consultant & Business Analyst

    Hi All
What are the differences in the roles of business analysts & functional consultants in SAP? At which levels of organization hierarchy they fall?
    Regards
    Abhijeet

    Hello Abhijeet,
To add on the comments Marilyn already posted, my experience at customer projects is that SAP Functional Consultants are more focussed on one subject matter/business domain like HR, CRM, Finance, SCM, SRM, etc. which are related to the functional modules SAP delivers. The business side of IT products as you can say. Good functional consultants know the details of that specific subject matter and are able to translate these to functional requirements for the implementation of the SAP module.
A Business Analist is a more generic role. Mostly found in the CIO office or at the Information Management part of a business division/unit. He/she translates more high-level business goals into concrete improvement programs and designs.
To make a very bold distinction: Business Analists more like are employees of the company trying to improve its business, where SAP Functional Consultants are hired from consulting firms to do their specific trick. Off course this not always is true, because roles are defined differently from company to company as Marilyn already stated.
I welcome anyone who likes to add comments on this view.
    Regards, Edo

  • Techno-Functional Consultants

    hi,
What is the job profile of Techno-Functional Consultants.

    Hi Samy,
Technical people are expected to have some basic functional knowledge. But if they really have very good functional knowledge in 1 area then they are generally called "Techno-functional". Usually people work on a specific Application area in BW like say FI, MM, PP , etc called functional . BW functional would not do any development but they are rather in charge of overseeing whether the specific application functionality is implemented or not. They rather look for the functionality and not for the underlying code.
People working across application areas called technical. They are the ones who do all the development like creating BW objects and activating them.

  • Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance for SD functional consultant

    Hi gurus
Request you to kindly let me know what a SD functional consultant should know about SOX and also its relationship with SAP.
If any guru responds immly it is highly appreciable, as I am in dire need of this information
    Thanks & Regards
    Suddu

    Dear Suddu,
SOX is useful for Security, Compliance, or Audit.
Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) in the United States, to Bill 198 in Canada, to Japan‘s Financial Instruments and Exchange Law (the so-called J-SOX), the current regulatory environment worldwide is one that demands that enterprises take
every step to ensure the integrity of their finances, their data, their processes, and their employees. Central to this is the need to control access to corporate information, functions, and processes and to ensure that there is comprehensive segregation of duties (SoD) across the entire enterprise and at all levels of corporate functioning.
Post Sarbanes Oxley, focus for corporations is more on compliance and security. Sarbanes Oxley has had a major impact on the organizations using SAP R/3 as their ERP. Some of the changes seen in the corporate landsacpe include identifying and documenting processes, implementing controls and safeguards, documenting user access approvals etc. In short, there has been a cultural shift in organizations post Sarbanes Oxley. Below, I have listed 7 major pointers which can help organizations towards better SAP security in the Sarbanes Oxley Era.
    1. Provide users access on a need to know and need to do basis.
    2. Adequately secure programs, transactions and tables.
    3. All user accesses to SAP R/3 are properly authorized and approved.
    4. Segregation of duties is maintained for all sensitive business transactions
    5. All controls and business processes are documented.
    6. Anti-fraud preventive controls are in place to prevent & detect fraud before an audit.
    7. User profiles and roles in SAP are secured and designed to meet business requirements.

  • Role & responsibilities for SD functional consultant

    Hi
    friends,
    iam sravan,
applying 2+yrs of exp as a sd functional consultant.
i want to put 10 months of exp for impementation and rest of the
yrs putting as a support. is it ok, otherwise plez suggest me.
can u tell me the role and responsibilities for implemetation
and support, bcoz iam putting two projects so i have to put
role & responsibilities both are should be different.
plez send me as soon as possible...................

    Hi Sravan,
    Types of Consultants:
The most common question being asked in interviews is ' What are your roles and responsibilities?'.
Before answering the above question, let me explain the difference between Functional consultant and
    Technical consultant.
Roles and responsibilities differ from functional consultant to Technical consultant.
    <b>Functional Consultant:</b>
Functional consultants are responsible for designing the SAP implementation solution based on the
    requirements of your company.
Functional consultants are business process experts.
Functional consultants normally use their process knowledge to calculate the impact of the SAP
    implementation on the company's processes.
Functional consultants are thus concerned with SAP functions and processes that will generate the data
    and output for business.
Functional consultants interact with end users of the company to gather requirements and based on the
requirements they customize the SAP implementation.
    <b>Technical Consultant:</b>
Technical consultants are experts in information technology.
Technical consultants normally assist in configuration of the SAP R3 installation. In many SAP
implementations, technical consultants help in designing interfaces and customizations in R3. Finally, the
SAP R3 technical consultants would be responsible for migration of data from the legacy system to the new
    SAP ERP implementation.
Here i will discuss major roles and responsibilities of a technical consultant:
    1) Designing technical specification by looking at the functinal specification you have recieved.
Usually senior developers having 3 years or more than 3 years of experience involves in preparing technical
    specifications.
    2) Developing objects using ABAP workbench tools. That may be a report program or an on-line program or a
    custom table.
Remember the development work starts after the technical specification is approved by your team leader.
    3) Preparing the Unit test case document.
In unit test case document, we document the results and test cases performed on the developed object.
    4) Peer Review
if you are a senior developer you can perform peer review. I.e review the code written by your peers.
    5) Working on Problem Tickets
If you are working in a support project, you should solve the tickets assigned to you. Tickets are nothing but
the problems occured in production environment.
The above mentioned are the major roles and responsibilities for a technical consultant
