Functional Location Structure Indicator
Hi Gurus,
I have created a functional location with an incorrect structure indicator. Wanted to know if there is a way out to change it without using the alternative labelling system?
The current status of the functional location is 'CRTE' (created) & no equipment is installed at this location.
I have to use the same functional location label therefore have to find a way out to get it changed.
Aprreciate your responses...
Thanks,
Swati
Swati,
You will not be able to change the Structure indicator of a FL once its created.
However if its a brand new FL and noting has yet been assigned(Like equipments) or created (Orders / Notifications) using it and if the FL key satisfies the New Structure indicator (and its the superior FL) You could potentially look at doing a direct table update using a custom program.

IH01 Functional location structure list of orders
Hello experts,
Do you know how to change the variant when you want to select orders from IH01?
Example
you open IH01 and click somewher on the structure, then you click environment- orders. The system leads you to the selection screen "functional location structure list of orders" here some selection fields are already filled. Such as period and also the status of the orders has already a flag.
Do you know how to change this?
I already saved User variants --> this does not help and also a SAP_TCODE_IW39 Variant.
Do you know how to change the period of time for the selection?
Thanx

Levels in a functional location structure
Dear experts!
Please explain the purpose of having several levels in a PM structure.
I have made a structure like this: NNNN-SS-SSSSS-SSSSSSSS-SSSSSSSS
what would be better or worse if i made a structure like this :NNNN-SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Ahhh it would be nice with some adwise.
Exept for having all FL`s in one level i can't see anything wrong.
anyone?HI
The Sole purpose of having several levels of Functional Location is to get the various data & reports at each level.
Suppose there is a company operating in multiple locations and each location they have multiple plants. In this case based upon your Floc structure you can get the Various Data / Reports at different levels .i.e (company , Location , manufacturing Plants etc )
By selecting company level Floc u2013 you can get No. of equipment/reports of total company.
By selecting location level Floc - you can get No. of equipment/reports of one particular location.
By selecting Plant level Floc - you can get No. of equipment/reports of of particular Plant itself .

Data origin Functional Locations
Hi,
I have several levels for my Functional Location Structure:
GR22
GR22-01
GR22-01-0135
GR22-01-0135-BU
etc. etc.
I maintained the Planning Plant, Maintenance Plant and ABC indicator at the first level and expected to see the same values in the levels below.
However the system behaves somewhat randomly. Some levels have the information copied from the superior FL whereas others don't. When looking at the Data origin list I can see that for those fields at some levels the flag is set for individual maintenance instead of Superior functional location.
Why this randomness? I've looked at previous posts on this forum and from what I understand there is no customizing setting to correct this. Everywhere I look the only suggestion is an LSMW that changes the data origin in those fields to "Superior equipment".
Are my assumptions correct? Any other suggestions other than LSMW? Are there any changes for the newer version ECC 6.0?
Thanks in advance
SAP FANS post:
http://www.sapfans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=349582Hi,
Depending on the reason for 'individual maintenance' you may be able to manually change the indicator via IL02 - Edit > Data origin.
A possible reason for the situation is that some of the lower levels were created before the upper level. In that case the lower level (but first created) would be set to individual maintenance. In this case you will not be able to edit the indicator.
If inheritance was unset because a individual value was specified for the relevant field at some time, you should be able to edit it manually.

Extending the existing functional locations to a new plant?
Hi Sapiens,
The following is my concern:
Q1) I have a set of functional locations(roughly around 5000 records) assigned to say Plant A.
I would like to extend these existing functional locations to Plant B. I am not permitted to do this using LSMW. I should execute this operation in one shot.
How to accomplish this?
Q2) After attaching all the functional locations to Plant B, i should replace the first 4 characters of the functional location structure with the Plant Code itself. Again not through an lsmw. How to accomplish this in one shot?
Please let me know the procedure of doing it with some guidelines.
Thanks in Advance,
VijayaHi
1. You can extentd to the other plant with SCAT ,BDC etc
2. But You can not replace the first four letters from the FL with the New plant code.Remember this is a master data

What is a reference location structure & How to create a new reference loc structure
Dear PM experts,
Need ur guidance on below :
1. What is a reference location structure
2. How to create a new reference loc structure
Thanks
MudassarIH02 (reference functional location structure list) is similar to IH01 (functional location structure list)
Create some reference functional locations via transaction IL11 and link them hierarchically.
Then run IH02 to view the structure.

ABC Indicator for Equipment & Functional Location Same or Different
Hi All,
We can find ABC indicators in both Equipment & Functional Location (FL) master data.
Q. Please tell me....whether these fields are different for Equipment & FL or same??
Problem is that I could see the same field name ABCKZ for both Equipment & FL in tables V_EQUI & ILOA respectively.
SundarHi Sunder
*The ABC indicator can be entered in equipment as well as functional locations.*
An indicator that is assigned by the procedure of ABC analysis.
The following ABC indicators are possible:
A - Important
B - Less important
C - Relatively unimportant
According to these criteria, "A" materials are those materials that are of greatest importance for the production operations of a company.
Examples of use for ABC indicators are vendor master records, material master records, and master records of *technical objects.*
So ABC indicator is same for equipments and Functional LocationBUT value may be diferent

Problem when Indicator for Alt. labelling for functional location activated
Dear Experts,
In our test system, i had activated alternative labelling for functional lcation for an interface with Locations in ISU.
After i activated it the entire labelling for functional locations got changed to some arbitrary sustem generated number. For a sample -?0100000000000000142. Is there a ways i can retrieve the original names back. We have reactivated it to inactive again.
Please help.
Thanks,
Boby MathewHi,
Once alternative labelling is active, the previous functional location number (IFLOT-TPLNR) and OBJNR become a internal number. The visible location labels are stored in table IFLOS (Field STRNO).
How easy it is to revert to status 1-Inactive depends on the existance of IFLOS records. If there are no IFLOS records it should be possible to just deactivate via OIPU transaction - Uncheck the 'alt label active' flag - Save.
Where IFLOS records exist it means functional locations have already been created while the switch was active. These functional locations must be archived. See the full instructions for this process in note [359186|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/359186]. It's a old note but is still valid for all current releases.

Equipment Not Allowed at Functional Location ( Inst. at FunLoc is selected)
Hi All,
I have configure Structure Indicator like XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Now I have maintain functional location label like
e.g ABCD-EFG XYZ ( there is a space between G and X) .
I have already allowed installation of all equipment category to functional locations at configuration. But still system gives me an error like Installing equipment is not allowed at functional location ABCD-EFG XYZ (MSG NO IA0002).
Now if I select ABCD system is allowing to install equipment at ABCD.
If space is a special character and i have not maintained S , then why system has created that label, it must throw an error while creating that label.
Please suggest.
Regards,
Anish AhyaEquipments can be installed at functional location if the following changes have been made
1. Configuration for equipment category installation (Already done in your case)
2. In the functional location master data in structure tab "equipment installation allowed" should be activated.
Please allow the equipment installation from functional location master data .

Link between structure indicator and labellig system (PM-FL)
Hello,
I'm facing a problem to associate one of my alternative label with a precise structure indicator.
In our system (R/3 4.6c), we have activated the alternative system in order to use a 40-char-long label for our functional locations. We also created a structure indicator to represent these 40 characters.
When changing this alternatice label, the system shows the structure indicator of the main label. On my opinion, it is normal because I've found no customizing point that allows me to link the alternative labelling and the structure indicator. Am I wrong?
If you ever encountered this problem, could you please help me find a way to solve it?
Best regards,
AnnabelleHello,
sorry I couldn't answer your question sooner.
The situation is this one :
- functional locations have assigned primary labels. These labels are created according 43 (out of 44) structure-indicators which help in representing a structure of technical objects. Thanks to the object type, we created a link between object type and structure indicator through a specific table.
- Two functional locations can have the same ID with distinct localisations.
- a secondary label has been created in order to generate a 40-character-long ID that is necessary to have a unique ID for each functional location.
- We have a specific structure indicator (the 44th) that represents a 40-character-long text.
As both labels are mandatory in the solution, is there a customizing point where we can link a non-primary label with a defined structure-indicator?
Thanks for your help.

What is hierarchical data transfer in functional location
hai,
i want to know indetail about hierarchical data transfer and horizontal data transfer in functional location.
can any one help me in this regard....
plz give information with some example if you dont mind...
thanks in advance
regards
gunnu.Hi
From SAP HELP
Hierarchical Data Transfer
Definition
You can maintain data at a high level within a hierarchical object structure. The system will automatically transfer the data changes to the levels below that are affected.
The maintenance planner group is changed for the clarification plant described in Functional Location. The employee responsible for maintaining the master data makes the change to the master record of the highest functional location C1 and saves the changes. The system automatically makes the same change for all affected functional locations below the functional location C1, and issues a message to inform the employee of these changes.
Horizontal Data Transfer
Definition
With horizontal data transfer you can differentiate between:
Data transfer from reference location to functional location
Data transfer from functional location to installed piece of equipment
The ABC indicator of the functional location C1-B02-1 "Ventilator" is to be changed for several clarification plants.
The employee responsible for maintaining the master data makes the change in the master record of the reference functional location and saves the entries.
The system automatically makes the same change for all affected functional locations that were assigned to this reference location and for the pieces of equipment that are installed at these locations. The system then issues a message informing the employee of the changes.
