Functionality of calendar for repeating events

I have meetings that occur on the same weekday each month, like the 3rd Tuesday.  There doesn't seem to be anyway to put that on my calendar.  If I ask it to repeat monthly, it does it by date, not day.

Ecosanda,
If you are using iCal/Calendar with Mac OS X, how do I create a repeating event: Apple Support Communities demonstrates how it can be accomplished.
If you are using a device with iOS, it not possible to create an event using those parameters.

  • Changing calendar in repeated events

    Hi,
I am trying to find a way to cross out one of the repeated events without deleting it. This would help me to mark events that did not happen and would have to be rescheduled in future. I also tried creating one separate calendar for cancelled events, but instead of changing only one event in a series of repeated ones, it changes all of them.
I'd appreciate any advise on this - is this possible in iCal? Perhaps there is a separate extension or a plug in for this?
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
When you try to alter a single event in a series, you should be asked whether you want to make the change to just this single event - or to all events after that date. Choosing only this event should alter just that one.
This should also work if you try to delete a single event from a series, but you won't be able to move a single event from a series into another calendar - that WILL move the entire series.
There's no way that I know of to 'cross out' the event, but you could change the event title to "CANCELLED <event title>" or something else that suits you.

  • ICal and Calendar sync one week apart for Repeating events

    Hi,
First Post here. Look forward to sticking around. I have been reading the forum avidly since I received my iphone 3g on July 11th.
So here is the issue: It is in regards to events that I created on my iphone that are scheduled to repeat each week, but then end on a certain day. This works perfectly fine in the iphone so far, but when it syncs with iCal it always ends one week earlier than on the iphone. The iphone will remain the proper date, whereas iCal ends one week early.
I won't go on longer, but has anyone else had this issue? Maybe you should double check your dates if you have any repeated events scheduled in your phone, and compare them with iCal to double check they are right.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Cam

I guess I should have added that with Outlook, I am connect to Exchange.

  • Fix for repeating events broken by OCS/Palm?

When I sync my Treo using Oracle Calendar Sync (to my Mac), repeating events are broken into individual items
... and then the events on the Palm are broken into individual events, too!
Has anyone found a workaround for this problem?
Does the same thing occur when syncing on a Windows machine? How about when using Mobile Sync?
Is there any way to sync one-way, so at least the repeating events on my Treo are not screwed up?
    Thanks!

  • Exceptions for repeating Events aren't handled correctly on iPod!?

I have a few repeating all day events set up in my calendar in iCal. If I sync them to my iPod they are transfered correctly.
However, if I move one of them in iCal from say wednesday to tuesday as an exception for this event (for just one week), the event isn't moved on the ipod as well. Instead, after syncing, it shows up on tuesday *as well as* wednesday. In iCal everything is displayed correctly...but on the ipod it is doubled.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Best regards,
    Markus.

    Scott,
thanks for your hint. unfortunately this didn't change anything at all.
I still got my repeating events correct on the mac but doubled on the ipod.
    Any other ideas?
    Best regards,
    Markus.

  • Suddenly cannot change the calendar for an event in iCal?

When I creart new events, they now automatically are asigned to the top calendar group (as listed on the left side of the iCal screen).  When I try to edit the event and asign it to a different calendar, the menu only shows the calendar groups, all in grey, not the individual calendars.
When I go to preferences to investigate what's going on, I only see the calendar groups, all in grey, not the individual calendars.
When I click on the "+" sign in the top-left corner, same problem, only the calendar groups appear, all in grey.
Why can I suddenly not access these calendars when editing an event?  Why do they stop showing up in the editing menus?
The calendar still show up in the list menu on the left. I still can add new calendars and new calendars groups.  The problem occurs when I try to assign an event to a specific different calendar.

Saw your post Beth over on my thread but I thought I would respond on this one since we're all here.
    Hi y'all (^_^)
Sorry to meet under such horrid circumstances, but it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.
I've found out a few things that didn't work so here's the list to save you both some heartache.
No type of re-install fixes is. Not a partial reinstall of the OS where you keep your data or a full wipe.
Checking your permissions or scanning the disk for errors doesn't work either. Creating a dummy user account to see if the problem ports over is a waist of time. If you don't have free support on your machine don't spend money on opening a ticket.
The problem is specific to the Mountain Lion release 10.8.3. The only fix that I have found while I wait on apple is to regress back to 10.8.1 (18.8.2 has the issue also) . . . reverting isn't hard to do with this nifty program I found but nearly impossible for me as I purchased my iMac in February of this year and the firmware came with 10.8.3 in the recovery partition. I've been scowering the net looking for anyone with a 10.8.1 full install dmg (not the update) but everyone either thinks I'm pirating software or doing something impossible so needless to say I'm still running 10.8.3
But all is not as bad off as we think. The problem is only with Calendar (or contacts, whichever place originated the problem as I have found the majority of people on the net who have encountered this did so while in the Contacts program not Calendar). This is a good thing! Because since the problem is unique to the software of origin (Calendar for us) that means we can still use use Calendar and the cross-program functions of Calendar (like creating an even from mail or inviting someone from your contacts) as if nothing is wrong. All programs that read event or calendar files work just great, only Calendar is having the issue. In other words, keep using Calendar like there isn't a problem.
This is a hard pill for me to swallow because I see that there is still a problem and I am itching to fix it. My obsession is only causing me to drink. I have tested this theory by creating a whole new schematic on iCal where I have 6 new Calendar groups all with at least 3 calendars in it and multiple events. (I'm a small business so they're not just dummy events). The great news is everything works like it should as long as I take precautions.
    Here are those precautions:
1 - When creating a new event MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN THE CALENDAR YOU WANT THAT EVEN TO BE IN since you won't be able to use the drop down and choose later because it is greyed out for us.
2 - If you run into this loop where you can't save changes to an event (happened to me a few times when the problem first materilized) just pop the calendar that even is inside to the base calendar list. In other words, take the calendar out of the group, make your changes, then click and drag it back into the group. Even if the event is recurring everything will be fine. Groups only alter the hierarchy of how iCal stores and displays the files, not the files themselves which is why other programs aren't having a problem reading them.
After I made my slew of new groups I tried a few things out to make sure everything was actually still working and it all came out perfect. You can still publish, sync to google, or iPhone, or android and things will display just as you expect them too. Reminders even worked. The problem is ONLY inside iCal and even then only when trying to use that drop down menu.
Long story short, if you can deal with knowing in your gut that things are f.u.b.a.r but keep going about using iCal as if it isn't, then you will survive the long wait (prob 2-3 weeks) until the 10.8.4 patch comes out or worse yet the 10.8.5 major release this summer.
Sorry this is such a long post (and for the misspellings) but sharing is caring so let's get through this together. Plus I don't know about y'all, but I spent 3K on my iMac so if this b!tch ain't gonna work like it's suppose to then it better be because of something major. . . I figured you all might be feeling the same so I should tell you just how major this bug is. And it is major, so much so that people are literally creating programs to disenfiect 10.8.3 out of their machine. If the application developer working with me comes up with a fix I will update the thread. Until then, try not to pull you hair out (~_~)

  • ICal default calendar for new event

When I sync a new iCal event from my PDA to iCal on my Powerbook, it defaults to a named, published calendar rather than "unfiled". Because of this, I immediately have to go through and change any new or changed events that have been sync'd to prevent them from being incorrectly published. I want to use the "unfiled" (and unpublished) calendar as my default calendar for new or changed events that I sync from my PDA, how do I do it?

If you are using iSync, press the Tungsten icon in its main window to drop down the configuration pane. Select the Unfiled calendar under the Calendar section as the Put events created on Palm into: option.
In the Missing Sync for Palm OS, double-click the Mark/Space Events conduit and select Put items from read-only calendars into: Unfiled. You have to create this calendar in iCal if it is not present already, before it can be selected in the Missing Sync.

  • How to see the underlying calendar for an event in Calendar app?

The Calendar app on iPhone does not show the underlying calendar for a given event unless the event is edited, or at least I didn't find a way. My difficulty is that colour alone is not sufficient to tell events apart in all circumstances (9 active ones)

The colors work fine for me but, everyone is different.
Submit your feedback directly to Apple:

And seriously, there are tons of calendar apps out there. I'm sure there must be one that will work better for you.
    Best of luck.

  • Selecting Default Calendar for New Events

Is there a way to select one of my iCal calendars to be the default when creating new events? I use one of my calendars every day using my iPhone at work for work events, and keep creating new events to the wrong calendar (which is currently set as my default)! It is very frustrating, as once the event is created, I can't change the associated calendar until I get home and can do it from my desktop.
    Thanks!!

    Tod,
On your iPhone select: Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Default Calendar>Choose.

  • ICal for iPhone-Why is there no custom option for repeating events?

I really hate the application iCal on the iPhone, because it won't allow me to enter in an event that happens on the fourth thursday of the month.
Palm has allowed users to make monthly reapeats by day and by date for ten years now. Why can't iCal do the same? I shouldn't have to use my Desktop iCal to enter in repeating custom events!

  • Setting a default calendar for new events

    Hi,
I've just upgraded my Mobile Me account in respects to the Calendar.  Now on my Mac I get the option to show Me (On My Mac) & Me ([email protected]).  Currently I have both selected, but this gives me duplicate copies of certain events.  An error I assume from when it transf the calendars to the new Mobile Me Calendar.
To save on any future duplications, I'd like to set a default Me calendar under which all events are created.  I cannot see how to do this on either my Mac or iPhone 4.  I've read various tips and suggestions, but none seem to work as I suspect they are for older generations iPhone or iPods.
    Can anyone offer any advise?
    Thanks, Gordon

    Gordon,
Currently I have both selected, but this gives me duplicate copies of certain events.  An error I assume from when it transf the calendars to the new Mobile Me Calendar.
What you are observing is not an error. The "On My Mac" calendars serve no useful purpose. Make sure that all of your events exist under the "MobileMe" source, archive your "On My Mac" calendars, and then delete them. That will eliminate the duplication that you are experiencing.
I'd like to set a default Me calendar under which all events are created.  I cannot see how to do this on either my Mac or iPhone 4.
The first calendar listed in the iCal Calendars source list will be the default calendar. Choose your iPhone default calendar in iPhone>Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>>Calendars>Default Calendar.

  • Can I choose the default calendar for new events?

I have multiple calendars in iCal. When I create a new event on the iPod, it always defaults to the same calendar, but it's a less frequently used calendar so that's rarely the one I want. Is there a way to set the default calendar to my most frequently used calendar so I'm not having to change to a different one on a regular basis?

On the iPod you can select the default calender: Settings>Mail..>Calenders (Scroll to bottom of the Mail... screen).

  • Sequential Numbers for repeating events

I need iCal to auto number a recurring event. ie. Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3...
sure you get the picture... lets say 1 thru 100
    -Thanks

When you make a recurring event it goes into the calendar file as a single entry. If it happens that the time window that you are looking at with iCal includes one of its recurrences iCal will display the data - from the original event.
Manually you can make changes to recurring events (£rd episode is at 9 rather than 7) producing detached recurrences, but I don't know what their format is, it can't be done automatically with iCal and I don't think it can be done with Applescript.
Your best bet would be to set up an Applescript to create a series of separate events which it would auto-number.

  • Repeating Events for the Fifth Week of the Month

    Hello,
I am attempting to create a calendar schedule to distribute to members of my club. Each member is responsible for a certain day of the month (eg, every first monday).
iCal gives me the option to select every First, Second, Third, Fourth, or Last weekday of the month for repeating events. Did Apple forget that some months have five weeks in them, or am I really going to have to schedule events for the fifth week manually?
    Thanks,
    -Noel
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Noel,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
iCal does not have this feature.
I tried playing around by scripting the addition of events with the correct rfc2445 recurrence string, but in iCal the events were placed in the first week of the following month on months with four weeks.
If you want this feature in the future, ask Apple for it.
    Best wishes
