Functionality of Files Processed with Photoshop CC

Adobe has stated that Photoshop CC users will have access to all files saved on their computers.
What will be the functionality of files processed with Photoshop CC and saved on my computer if I no longer subscribe to Photoshop CC?
Adobe will introduce new functions such as Camera Shake Reduction to Photoshop CC.  Let's say that I use a new function on a layer or as a Smart Object, and then save it on my computer, and then end my subscription to Photoshop CC.  Will I be able to open the file with my layers intact and editable in any program other than Photoshop CC?
If I save the files with the layers merged as TIFFs or JPEGs I assume that I will be able to open them with most photo programs. Let's say that I do not save merged files and I am willing to sacrifice the layers.  Will Photoshop CC be required to merge the layers and save as files that can be edited in other programs?  What happens with other file types such as PSDs?
Let's say I own CS6 or previous versions with perpetual licenses.  Will I be able to open and edit files in CS6 with layers created in Photoshop CC?

Eric, you need to clear the URL filed before pasting another into it:

[EDIT]
Having read the link, it is not quite the disaster Dave Cross makes it out to be.  While the new features would not be directly editable in CS6 or earlier, you could absolutely still use the image data in those layers, and make further edits using the features and tools in whatever copy of Photoshop you were using.  The Shape layer which used the new radius corners tool in CC, is still a shape layer, but even if it had been rasterised, you could select it and turn that selection into a path, and edit that path.
I am not so sure about the ACR filter layer.  I'd like to think that the results of using that adjustment layer would be apparent in whatever that adjustment layer had been applied to in Photoshop CC.  So you'd still have the benefit of the edit.  Dave made that over complex by nesting the ACR layer in a smart object, and I could only guess at the consequences of that.  But the bottom line is you could still open a PSD file created in CC, and have all the layers, and most of the information.  You might even have the outcome of all or most of the edits made in CC.  If you are worried, put a copy merged layer at the top of the stack while CC is still working for you, or just keep subscribing to what will continue to be the world’s best raster image editing program.

  • I can't open a 32-bit HDR file made with Photoshop HDR in Lightroom.

I can't open a 32-bit HDR file made with Photoshop HDR. I saved the file in Photoshop with the maximum compatibility-option on. In Lightroom the file doesn't show a preview and an exclamation mark in the upper right corner. Anybody an idea why and how to solve this problem?

As I said, the files must be saved in TIFF format in order for LR to recognize them.

  • Livetype files associated with Photoshop in timeline

Over the past week some of my livetype files in the timeline have become associated with Photoshop rather than livetype. By this I mean that when I right click and choose open in editor, they try to open in Photoshop rather than Livetype. They also show in the timeline as the same shade of bluey green as an image file would.
The file extension is still .ipr and within the Finder the file is still set to open with Livetype. If you get the item properties within Final Cut on the files in question (Right click, item properties, format) there type shows as a "Still". The ones that open correctly in Livetype show as a "Clip".
I made all these files at the same time one after the other so I can't see why 3 have come out wrong and 7 have come out right.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Right I have just realised what has happened...
In livetype the files durations (In and Out Markers) have all changed to 0.1 of a second instead of the 10 they were originally set to when I created the file.
Now thats solved does anyone know why this has happened?

  • .PSD File incompatible with Photoshop CS5 after working on it in CS5 for hours

Hi. Sorry If I've posted in the wrong area, but I'm a little flustered and I have not a clue of where to put this. Couldn't find anything related to troubleshooting.
    I was working on an Illustration in Photoshop CS5 yesterday; it was a trial version. After hours of work and saving regularly (yes, I'm POSITIVE I saved as a .PSD and did not add any extensions) I decided to get to bed. I woke up today, fired up the CPU, and I'm getting this message every time I try to open this file in either photoshop or windows image viewer;
    Adobe Photoshop CS5 extended
Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop.
The computer had been restarted after I had saved last night before I went to bed, and it opened the file just fine. All the other .PSD files from yesterday that I've saved are able to open without a problem.
I only used the brush tool and eraser tool to create the illustrations I worked on yesterday.
I've updated Photoshop CS5 to 12.0.4 after I found this problem. It didn't solve it.
I have not downloaded or installed any files to this CPU since I started work on the illustrations.
    I'm running windows 7 64 bit
    2.0 GB of Ram
    AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual-Core Processor TK-55 1.8 GHz
If anyone needs any information regarding the CPU I'll be more than happy to get them for you; I'm sorry that I don't have all my specs, I'm not very good with computers. I'm sure that If you need something I can fish it out for you. I realize everyone has deadlines to work around; I've tried to get you as much information as possible. Thank you for your time in advance.

Could be a problem with your disk, a problem with the OS, or it could be the wrong file extension on the file.
How large is this file?  If I could take a look at the file, I could probably narrow down the causes.

  • Imported files  & modified with Photoshop CS cant be added to Library

I imported digital photos and then edited files with Photoshop CS(JPG) files. Can't be recognized files when I try to "add" to library. Files can be seen in preview. How do I add the files?

    hi JGJensen,
Could you explain in a little more detail your steps.
You imported the files into iPhoto first?
When you say you edited them with PS, did you use PS as an external editor within iPhoto?
Did you save the edited image with the same file name and flattened?
If you "save as" with a different name into the iPhoto Library folder, iPhoto will not recognize the file. If you do a "save as", it must be saved anywhere other than the iPhoto Library folder. It then must be imported into iPhoto.

  • ICC file associated with photoshop process on Windows, how to make them not associated?

In my code, an ICC profile is created and copy to the system folder (C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color)
then assign this profile to current document in photoshop using sPSActionControl->Play(&result, StringToKey("assignProfile"), iDescriptor, mode); // iDescriptor contains the ICC profile name
after assigning profile, the .icc file is associated with the ps process, that is, I can't delete it or rename it, nor can I replace it with another file having the same name. But on Mac, the ICC file won't be associated with the process, so I can overwrite the icc file and do other work, that's better.
How to make the icc file not taken by photoshop after assigning profile on windows?

what i finally did to go around this problem was to make another user on my computer and only download podcasts. just as long as you don't hook the ipod up in this new profile, you should be fine

  • Batch file processing with non-scripting app (Preview)

Well I RTFM and spent MANY hours on macscripter et al, the answer is just not going to come to me. I have some RAW files in an obscure Canon format that is only recognized by Preview, which is not scriptable. I'm dealing with hundreds of files from a stop-motion animation project so batch-processing is a must.
The Goal: Individually open several hundred RAW image files in Preview, then save them as .PICT files in a new directory.
Automator doesn't want to play - it simply refuses to do this as a batch job, so I'm left with manipulating the UI through Applescript. Below is what about 10 hours of head-beating has produced:
    -- Start Finder tell block
    tell application "Finder"
    --Pick files to convert
set SelectedFiles to (choose file with multiple selections allowed)
set filesList to get every file of SelectedFiles
--Begin repeat loop for every file in selection
    repeat with aFile in filesList
set theFile to aFile as alias --Set theFile as current target
tell application "Preview" --Open Preview, open the target file
    (activate) and (open theFile)
    end tell
--Need to manually select "save as PICT", so this opens the prompt
    tell application "System Events"
keystroke "s" using command down and shift down
    end tell
--Buy some time for the conversion and save process
--(there has GOT to be a better way!)
    delay 30
end repeat --loop (with fingers crossed)
    end tell
This is a HUGE advance from where I started, trying to repeat for "every file in folder..." which just ain't gonna work on my computer. But, it doesn't do anything beyond getting a list of input files. My output is below:
    tell application "Finder"
choose file with multiple selections allowed
    {alias "Macintosh HD:Users:mark:Pictures:LEGOS:IMG_0126.CR2", alias "Macintosh HD:Users:mark:Pictures:LEGOS:IMG_0127.CR2", alias "Macintosh HD:Users:mark:Pictures:LEGOS:IMG_0128.CR2"}
    end tell
Thanks, my head hurts now. (Why couldn't they just have ported REXX???)

Hiroto, no I didn't have it checked. I don't know why I was able to get as far as I did but enabling access for assistive devices didn't change anything. I am able to emulate /almost/ any keystroke, except the up arrow, which normally allows me to move up in the "file type" selector button. The script below is ... functional ... except that it forces me to save each file as a 58MB uncompressed .tiff, and it refuses to respond to the "close front window" or 'keystroke "W" using command down' scripts. Getting through 300+ files this way will eat up my memory and hard drive in a matter of minutes. I suppose I could '$sh kill ####' from terminal if I could find the window process, but this is getting really hoaky!
THIS SCRIPT OPENS AND SAVES FILES, BUT DISALLOWS ANY TYPE SELECTION OR CLEANUP
set sFiles to (choose file with multiple selections allowed without invisibles)
    repeat with aFile in sFiles
    tell application "Preview" to run
tell application "System Events" to tell process "Preview"
    tell application "Preview"
    activate
    open aFile
    delay 8
    tell application "System Events"
    keystroke "S" using {command down, shift down}
delay 2 -- opens save as sheet
    repeat 7 times
keystroke tab -- tab down to file selector (works fine)
    end repeat
click down -- select button (doesn't do anything)
    delay 1
keystroke up -- open file button menu (doesn't work)
keystroke up -- select next menu item above (doesn't work)
keystroke return -- shortcut to "save" button
delay 10 -- wait for save
keystroke "W" using command down -- close current window (doesn't work)
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
    end repeat

  • Canon 450D CR2 Files compatible with Photoshop Elements 7?

I have recently bought a Canon 450D camera and have noticed that the RAW CR2 images produced are not compatible with my Photoshop CS2 version. I'm not sure about upgrading to the latest version of Photoshop since I probably wouldn't use all the features but I would probably upgrade to Elements 7. Is Elements 7 completely compatible with my Canon CR2 files and has anyone else used this combination and been impressed with the results?
    Thanks.

The 450D came out after CS2 was obsolete so you need at least CS3 to read 450D RAW files.
Elements 7, being the current version, would support the 450D RAW files; however, I use CS4 and LR2 with my RAW files so cannot say how good PSE is or isn't.
The other option is to convert the RAW files to DNG with the latest free DNG Converter and then use CS2 with the DNGs.
If you have a dual or quad-core system with at least 2GB of memory, I'd suggest using Lightroom.

  • Need advise on large file processing with good performance

    Hi All,
I am working on a program in which I have to read millions of records from application server file. For this, I am reading 1 million records each time and uploading into the DB-table.
what is the best approach to process the millions of records.what I am currently doing is, I read 1 million records one by one , modify each and every record based on some conditions and store them in one internal table and update the DB table.
I am also thinking alternate approach is,read 1 million into one internal table and after that within the loop, modify each and every records for given condition and update the DB table.
which approach is the best one?
you can advise me any other alternate approches with good performance.

    Hi Joshi,
Thanks for your reply reply. I have tested both ways as I mentioned in my query but reading record by reocrd and update data packets takes less time than reading into iternal table, then modify and update the DB table.
    Hi ralph,
    Thanks for the reply.
The modifications are similar in all the lines.I get related data from other class/method,do some calculation and modify each each record.
Are there any performnace tricks to be followed when processing large amount of data.by the way I am reading certail amount of records say 400K and updating DB table using parallel processing.
Apart from this, any suggestions on this?

  • RAW file processing with Elements 9

When I open a RAW image taken with a EOS 5D Mk III with Elements 9, I receive a message saying - cannot process file as it is the wrong file type?
When I attempt to re-open the same file, I receive a message - Could not complete your request because of a program error
The file size is 24 mb
    Any help wopuld be appreciated.
    Many thanks

    Hi,
The 5D MK III is not supported by PSE 9. It requires ACR 6.7 or 7.1 which will not apply to PSE 9.
    You can either :-
    1) Update to a newer version of elements
    2) Use the Canon software to covert the raw files to TIF files and then import the TIF files
    3) Download and install the free Adobe DNG Converter. Convert the raw files to DNG files and then import the DNG files into elements.

  • End of File issue with Photoshop CS5

Running Mac OS 10.6.5 and Photoshop CS5
    Steps to reproduce the Problem:
    1. Open .psd file from the server
    2. Make changes
    3. Save
    4. Receive error message: "Could not save as "<filename>" because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered"
    5. Click OK
    6. File disappears from the server
    7. Save again
    8.  Save As prompt appears
    9. Same location is selected with same file name. The file saves correctly.
    Work around:
    1. Click Photoshop->Preferences->File Handling
    2. Under File Saving Options->Image Previews
    3. Change to "Never Save"
This option does not seem to have any affect on viewing the list of files in Windows Explorer, but does affect how the files can be viewed in the Mac Finder.
It appears that disabling the option to save “ImagePreview/Icon” results the file no longer being able to Previewed from within Finder.  It also results in the File having a generic ICON.
Hope that this helps others who may be experiencing the same issue.
Will take suggestions for other work arounds or fixes.
Adobe basically says "We don't support working with files directly from a server".
I don't have this problem using Photoshop CS4.

Just to make sure: You are aware that this is not a Photoshop-issue per se even if it may be the only application that produces the problem for you?

  • Photoshop CS6 file permissions issue with file created with Photoshop CC

In our studio we have several capture stations and work stations all connected to one file server. An issue occurs when a user of CC creates a file and saves it to the server and a user of CS6 opens the file. The CS6 user cannot save the changes he just made to the file that was created in CC. The CS6 user can do a Save As with no issue. There is also NO problem if the file that was created in CC is transferred to a new drive using the Finder in Mac OS X.
Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a solution?
Here is a screen cap of the error:

    We have solved our issue.
After running Adobe updates on machine that uses CS6 and then re-starting that machine, our issue seems to have disappeared.
    Hope this helps others.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't Access Supplementary Editing with Photoshop CS2

I was a user of Elements3 for a long time mainly because I liked that the catalog's "edit with" feature worked with Photoshop CS2.  I recently got a new PC with Windows 7 so I could not install PSE 3. I downloaded PSE9 trial version to see if all worked well and it was worth the purchase.  The problem I am having is that I cannot seem to get my Photoshop (CS2) as a supplementary editing option.  When I try it tells me this
But if I don't add it like it says, there is not a Photoshop option when I go to the "edit with" list.
I don't know if this is right, but from the little bit of research I did it thinks I am trying to add Elements again because the Elements program exe file starts with "Photoshop" so when it reads the Photoshop.exe file it thinks it is a duplicate.  I tried creating a copy and renaming the Photoshop.exe file which almost worked.  Elements allowed me to select it as a supplementary editor and afterwards Photoshop was an edit option.  I tried to edit a photo with it and while the program opened, it then got an error message and ended up closing before the photo came up for editing.
Can someone give me a fix to use Photoshop as my editor.  I really liked how I could edit in PS and keep a neat catalog of edited versions with the Elements versioning capability.  If I can't do it I probably won't end up purchasing the PSE9 program.

I have the identical problem trying to use Photoshop as the editor from Photoshop Elements 11.
Please can some-one let us in on the secret of how to get PSE to recognise that a full Photoshop is installed.
    Thanks
    Dave
