Functions: Oracle VM Manager vs. Grid Control Oracle VM Management Update

Hello guys,
i have seen both tools .. and i have to say that some really basic functions are missing in the Oracle VM management addon for Grid Control 10.2.0.5 .. just some examples:
- Renaming virtual machines (because of the prefix syntax is not very useful)
- Adding ISOs as CD/DVD after removing them one from the profile (until now you need to know the whole path to the DVD, even if the ISO is registered in the repository)
- Renaming image files (for example the disks of the VMs .. this would be very helpful in case of cloning machines)
- List the VNC port for the running VMs
All these features are available under the VM Manager (except the renaming file part) ... do you know when this will be implemented or is the Oracle VM management update already "finished" in its functions.
Regards

Hi,
You can manage your Oracle VM environment using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c. Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c you can discover Oracle VM Servers, discover storage servers and file systems, create and edit server pools, set up networks and create storage repositories.
for more information, look at this URL.
I hope this can help you

  • Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database

I want to install Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control 10.2.0.3 using an existing database. This database is RAC 10.2.0.2. and I use it as Infrastructure Metadata Repository.
I is said in Oracle documentation that SYSMAN schema has to be dropped, thus Database console repository has to be dropped. As far as I understand after Grid Control installation I will not be able to use Database console for my RAC 10.2.0.2 Infrastructure Metadata Repository database. I will be able to use only Grid Control for this database.
Am I right? Could you give me any advice about Installing Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using an Existing Database?

  • Disk 1 of Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control not downloading correctly

Hello, I'm downloading Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control.
The first disk, of three, does not download correctly:
    GridControl_11.1.0.1.0_Linux_1of3.zip
On the web page, its size is listed to be around 1.3 GB.
However, when downloading, it thinks its actual file size is only around 643 MB.
So only that much gets downloaded.
But after downloading, this .zip file cannot be opened, it does not appear to a valid .zip file.
    Please investigate and fix this.
    Thanks
    Eugene

Please check from edelivery.oracle.com . You need to unzip all the zips under one dir.

If yes, what should I do?In Oracle terms, there is a world of difference between Installing and Configuring.
If you want to Install Database Control to a different location, the answer is basically 'No' (from what I can tell).
If you want to Configure Database Control at a different time than the database, then you use emca. However, it depends on the ORACLE_HOME of the database and generally can not be configured to a differnert location or computer. That is one reason for using Gr\id Control.

  • Can Enterprise Manager Grid Control 10g R4 manages Oracle DB 11g?

Are there some articles or documents for that?

I assume you are asking whether it is possible to run Enterprise Manager Grid Control without using the embedded database. The answer is yes. There is a step in the install wizard that ask you whether you want to create an embedded database, or use an existing database environment. Just follow the instructions on the wizard to point your EM server to the database of your choice. You can even run EM on RAC provided that you already have the license for it.

  • Oracle Wallet Manager and Grid Control

Can you use OWM for Grid Control? Or is it more recommended to use WebLogic?
I am unable to log into EM due to certificate issues (unless I create an exception in my browser). I have my certificates generated and have put them in OWM...but I'm still having no luck. I'm not sure if I'm even supposed to be using OWM for EM...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

By default certificate generate/set during installation, it seems your installation is not successful. please check

  • Creating a new Oracle Database using 10G Grid Control

    Hi
Is it possible to create a new database using the 10g Grid COntrol.

The way to create a database with EM, is by using Provisioning procedures. For instance with the Oracle Clusterware / RAC Provisioning For UNIX, you can provisioning Clusterware, ASM + ASM instance creation and DB Software. Then by provisoning you would create a database. There are also procedures to extend a cluster.
So, provisoning is the way to go!

  • Figures in Grid Control and Enterprise Manager Console don't match!

    Hi,
I have just installed Oracle 10g Grid Control and it is managing an existing database on another server. It appears to gather information as expected in most areas (I can look at the alert log through grid control and it is up to date to the nearest 60 seconds as I expect) but today I looked at how full my undo tablespace is and the figures seemed completely wrong. When looking through grid control it showed me that Undo was 20% full. When I looked in the old java console, it showed it was 30% full!
Is there any reason why figures in Grid Control would not be accurate or up to date? I have no error messages and it seems to be gathering data fine.
Is it more likely the old java console is not accurate? (I've always found it accurate in the past I think!).
These are Solaris Sparc servers, Oracle 10.2.0.3 Grid Control monitoring an Oracle 10.2.0.3 database on a remote server via management agent.
    Thanks,
    Paula

And this morning my old console says 21%, and the new Grid Control says 14%. So they both seem to be gathering the info and putting it out but they have completely different opinions on how much space is used. I think that makes the whole thing fairly useless. Not so glad I spent an age trying to get grid control set up now!!!
    Any thoughts much appreciated!!!!
    Thanks,
    Paula

  • Transfer live VMs from one Manager to Grid Control Manager?

I've installed EM 10.2.0.5 with the Virtual Server extensions. I've got my current VMs (V2.1.2) attached to a standalone VM Manager (V2.1.2).
Can the VMs be moved to the EM manager while live and in production? What is the best procedure?
When I tried to create them in the EM manager, I was informed that they were already attached to another VM Manager.
    Thanks for any help...

Didi you check MOS Note: How to Enable Oracle VM Management Pack in EM Grid Control 10.2.0.5 [ID 1125013.1] ?

  • Managing multiple database in 10g enterprise manager without Grid control

    Hi,
How do we manage multiple databases using oracle 10 g enterprise manager?.
Do we have any java console EM, so that we can add databases as in 9i EM?
    Thanks and regards
    Suresh HT

Grid Control is the replacement for 9i EM. Without GC, you'll have to manage each database using its database control which isn't good if you have many many databases.
On the client CD, there is a java console you can install which has some packs like change manager but this console is only there temporarily. My understanding is it's there for some features that haven't been added to GC.

  • Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control?

    Hi,
I have one doubt regarding workflowserver.
    I am using OWB 10g R1.
I installed workflow server 2.6.3 as per the instructions given in installation guide.
OEM OMS (oracle management service is not installed).
I am able to create process flows and able to execute those using OWB (client).
Now I want to shedule the process flows.
Do I need to install OEM 10g?
Or Is workflow server fulfills this requirement?
    Could you please suggest me.

You can submit them as Database Jobs since it is running on Standalone
