  • Installing Discoverer with Database Version Oracle 10g Express Edition

    Hello,
Is it possilbe to install Discoverer with database version Oracle 10g Express Edition? I have Oracle Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.1.0 on my Windows XP machine as well. If so, can someone please provide me a link to the Discoverer download.
    Regards,
    Kelly

Note that the Personal Edition of the database is 'the most powerful' version, in that it contains all features and options of the Enterprise Edition (expect RAC and Enterprise Manager packs)
As such, the Personal Edition, at a mere USD$400-500 is one of the most cost effective for-fee products that Oracle has in it's inventory. It is targeted at the developer. And it comes with the complete set of Sample Data, whereas XE has a very limited subset (since it does not support all functionality).
Express Edition is indeed free, but it is not supported, and can not be patched. OTOH it does have a lighter footprint.
Again, I am not sure whether Disco 11g is compatible with Express Edition. (It's on my schedule for December ...)

A bit more info: Here is the connection script as its defined in Dreamweaver: <?php
    # FileName="Connection_php_mysql.htm"
    # Type="MYSQL"
    # HTTP="true"
    $hostname_karen_product = "localhost";
    $database_karen_product = "karen";
    $username_karen_product = "root";
    $password_karen_product = "root";
    $karen_product = mysql_pconnect($hostname_karen_product, $username_karen_product, $password_karen_product) or trigger_error(mysql_error(),E_USER_ERROR);
    ?>
Where is says mysql_pconnect, I changed the $hostname_karen_product etc to 'localhost', 'username', 'the password for the database')
Do i need to do something different at $database_karen_product?
I'm basically new at this and confused as to how to alter this connection script.
    Thanks

Now after import i tried to upgrade workflow schema to 2.6.4 every thing worked fine, now when i am trying to access the home page via http://locahost:7777/pls/wf/wfa_html.home it ask for username and i have given owf_mgr and password, but it is not displaying the home page.
Where as when i tried to install a fresh workflow setup using 10g i succeded and the home page i can see.
I hope i have not confused u. Please help me with posible cause and what i should see because i am very new to workflow.
    Thanks.

    Hi Craig,
From what I heard, there would not be another major ECC release in the near future. New functions have been and will be released in "Enhancement packages" - hopefully it is not another new term to you...
NetWeaver 7.1 has been released (Q3 2007? not Q3 2008 for sure). BI folks might know whether there will be a release 7.1 or not.

  • Database Grid Control 10g and Oracle 8i v.3....

    Hi ,
Is it possible for Database Grid Control 10g to administer and monitor the Oracle 8i v.3, namely Oracle 8.1.7. database ...?????
    Many thanks ,

Yes, that is possible. We are using OMS 10.2.0.2, Agents 10.2.0.2 to monitor 8.1.7.4 Databases.
    Also check MetaLink Notes:

  • Does ORACLE functions work with Oracle Database 10G

    Hi,
I am wondering if ORACLE functions work with Oracle Database 10G or is it mandatory to use OCI functions?
    Thanks in advance!

I was able to run a simple query with ora_* functions using 10g on Windows.
The Oracle OCI calls used by PHP's ora extension still exist in the Oracle 10g libraries
But I cannot recommend this obsolete extension.

  • Alert Log File Monitoring of 8i and 9i Databases with EM Grid Control 10g

Is it possible to monitor alert log errors in Oracle 8i/9i Databases with EM Grid Control 10g and EM 10g agents? If yes, is it possible to get some kind of notification?
I know that in 10g Database, it is possible to use server generated alerts, but what about 8i/9i?
    Regards,
    Martin

    Hello
i am interested in a very special feature: is it possible to get notified if alerts occur in alert logs in an 8i/9i database when using Grid control and the 10g agent on the 8i/9i systems?
Moreover, the 10g agent should be able to get Performance Data using the v$ views or direct sga access without using statspack, right?
Do you know where I can find documentation about the supported features when using Grid Control with 8i/9i databases?

  • Forms 6 not connecting with Database 10g

I can not connect Oracle forms 6 with database 10g

    795192 wrote:
I can connect to sql plus but i cannot connect my forms 6 with database 10g. getting the following error:
ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name=================================
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
This error means one thing, and one thing only. The client could not find the specified entry in the tnsnames.ora file being used.
As a follow-on to that statement, remember that when you use a dblink, the database in which the link is defined is acting as a client to the database that is the target of the link. So in this case, the tnsnames.ora file on the host of your source should have an entry for your target db, as defined in the db_link.
And for the umpteenth time ... this error has <b><i><u>NOTHING</u></i></b> to do with the status of a listener. The connection request never got far enough to reach a listener. If anyone tells you to check a listener in response to ora-12154, they are not paying attention, or do not understand how TNS works. This error is the equivalent of not being able to place a telephone call because you don't know the number of the party you want to reach. You wouldn't debug that situation by going to the other guy's house and testing his telephone, or by going to the phone company and testing the switchboard. And you don't debug a ORA-12154 by checking the listener. If I had a top ten list of "Incredibly Simple Concepts (tm)" that should be burned into the brain of everyone who claims to be an Oracle DBA, it would include "ORA-12154 Has Nothing To Do With The Listener".
    =================================
    A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"

  • XML File - Problem.with naming tags with XI standard functions

    Hello,
    simple (?) problem:
Receiver expects an XML file via file adapter.
(The source data comes from an RFC connect to XI.)
In the XML tags like these are expected (following W3C definitions):
    A)   </gdt:ValueGroup>
How to define a data type with a ":" in its name or to convert it to the required tag?
    B)   <gdt:ExtendedAttribute gdt:guid="4c102d6b077de7c1f0e27391e40bb80f" gdt:code="X01" >GR2 LI3</gdt:ExtendedAttribute>
This one is a real nice one. The part with "gtd:guid=" within the tag is variable. How to add such values into tag names?
Any ideas if this is possible with standard and how.
If this is the limit of XI I think we need an XSLT- or JAVA-maping program to generate the required file.
    Thank you for any help!
    Best regards
    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,
    just one thing:
    >>>>The part with "gtd:guid=" within the tag is variable.
this is ok as it's just an attribute
    of the ExtendedAttribute tag's name
so it can be variable without any problems
(you can fill it in the mapping for example)

  • Is it possible to connect indesign with database/OOD...

    Hello fellow Indesign user,
Not sure if this question belongs here or in scripting...
I'm just a moderate user in ID CS4 and I got this daunting task to find/invest a way to use Indesign (our existing layout software) to create "brochures/instruction manuals" using databases or OOD. Meanings, use a template, add a code that corresponds to a similar code with pre-defined data-entity in a database/OOD, and automatically add the text/pictures from the database/OOD.
We are not talking about addresses or simple things like that, but brochures and instruction manuals in different languages with different or similar operation for each machine. Some instructions are the same and some are not. Get my drift?
We are using ID Cs4 in the company right now, not the smartest tool to use when producing 25 different brochures/technical manuals with different languages. Changing one content in one manual, meaning we have to change all 25 brochures/manuals.... manually...
Many of you may think -"why did you start ID in the first place". The answer: I don't know, I wasn't here then... It is not until now they discovered -"Oh, we need a new system… " and guess who got the task to evaluate it…
I need to know if it is possible and to what extent we can use ID with database or an OOD-system to retrieve data (mostly custom data with bulletin, font, size, pictures, etc).
Articles, links and other information would be very helpful….
    Thanks!

What kind TM exist out there and is it possible to integrate it with ID? (I can probably check Wikipedia, but it feels correct to ask the right question to ask to the right person here. How does your firm manage multilingual contents in ID? You gotto have the same problem as I do, at least to some extent…
How is it even possible to have an automated system and still have that flexible design freedom in ID..? Many questions here…
To invest a complete new system is not an option anymore. I made some calculation and plenty of phone calls. The figures does not look good at all… it’s simply not worth the time and money. So what are the options, if we keep ID in the firm?
Well, I should have had lots of time to answer your questions this  evening, but it turns out that we're both out of luck. I'll cover a few  things quickly to give you some Google-fodder:
    1) Okay, I won't suggest expensive commercial solutions.
    2) Read up about how to flow XML content into and out of ID
2b) Store your content in the DB of your choice, spit out XML, and then update your INDDs with it.
    3) Think about an open-source TM app like OmegaT
    4) Do you do all of your translations in-house? If not, ask your suppliers how they work.
    5) But really, if you don't have a completely obsessive person in charge of making sure everything is up to date, you're asking for trouble. I'm reminded of a quote by Edward Tufte who was talking about project management; I can't remember the quote, but the idea boiled down to the fact that you can do just as good a job with whiteboards as you can with databases. At least right now you know that you haven't kept all versions up to date... if you were housing all your content in a database, then the update process is somewhat hidden from you, and you wouldn't know if something broke unlesss you caught it in QA. If you're not doing all the updates... then you can't do good QA.This is a recipe for disaster.
5b) Establish a good workflow with whatever tools you have (database, whiteboards, little strings with knots tied in 'em, notches carved in the thighbones of extinct birds of prey, etc.) and give someone the power to sanction/punish/fire people who disobey workflow rules. I am not kidding.
I will make more useful suggestions (suggestions more useful than 5b, at any rate) in the near future.

  • Attach GOS attachments with a standard send mail functionality

    Hi Folks,
I am here after long time and need your help.
I have a requirement where I need to attach document with a standard send mail functionality.
    Below is the details:
From Quality notification 'Action Box', if the user select a perticular action (it is similar to web link), the system is sending a mail to an external mail id provided by the user (In a popup). This mail send is happening through a SAP standard functionality.
Now the requirement is, I need to attach selected file from GOS (generic Object Services) and attach them to the mail. Sending mail should happen through standard functionality.
I want to know below two points:
    1) How to get selected files from GOS attachment?
    2) How to attach them to mail? (only attach, sending will be done by standard functionality)
Hope I am clear with the requirement.
Please help me to get it resolved.

  • Standby Database on Oracle 10g Standard Edition ?

    Hi All,
Is it possible to do Oracle Stand By Database on Oracle 10g SE ?
I read somewhere in this group that we can do standby database even in SE by writing a script that copy the archive log to the secondary server.
Is this approach reliable enough to be done in production ?
Does anybody have sample of the script ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

    Hi,
Well, I think I'd beter put the scripts right there. Remember, they have been tested under MY environment, using MY releases, MY O.Ses. It's up to you to check whether the're valid for you. They are provided as is, for sample.
    There are 4 files:
. generic.sh : you can duplicate this file in order to set up as many standby as needed, etc. It calls other scripts in order to:
. archivemove.sh : Get the archived redo logs to the standby host
    . recover.sh : Synch the standby
. getrecid.sql : get the maximum progess point on the Manual Standby (used by archivemove.sh)
These scripts are used from the standby host. Remember to throughly check it before relying on it for production.
    generic.sh
    #!/bin/sh

  • Oracle Developer 6 applications with database 10g

    Hello,
My all applications are developed and running in Oracle Developer 6 with database 9i. But now i want to use
database 10g with these Oracle Developer 6 build applications.
Already compiled files (with dev 6 and DB 9i) are runing with database 10g quite nicely, but when i try to
recomplie the source files of these applications with 10g database i got the fowlloing error.
    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [17069], [45468896], [], [], [], [], [], []
After it i open these Oracle Developer 6 applications source files with Oracle Developer 6i and use 10g database,
    compile and run very easly.
I think it is old version problem .But my development team dont want update all applications to new version (6i or other) yet.
Is there any solution to use Oracle Developer 6 applications with database 10g ?
    Thanx.

The general rule is "Ora-00600s (and 7445s, 3113s) are to be reported to Support". Look in Metalink to see whether any one else has reported it, based on the first argument. If so, there may be a workaround or a patch.
Since you are asking this generically without database version, patch level or operating system, I assume you are using the unsupported free download and do not have access to Metalink. In that context
    1) What is the problem:
The problem is your request (QSL, PL/SQL, Java) is hitting a bug or abusing a part of the Oracle software in an unexpected way. ORA-00600 is simply one of the 'unexpected and unhandled exceptions'.
    2) Required action:
Since it is unexpected and unhandled, there are several ways to proceed:
    - Search the net for the first argument (ktspgetmyb-1) to see whether someone has a workaround
    - Reproduce and Simplify your offending code until you find your own workaround.
Often this happens with some sql statement
    serache for metaling ORA-00600 log
