Funny pop up ad on my ipad, Virus?

Hello ladies and gentleman,
I am aware that viruses are quite unlikely on my iPad 4 device, but I have been experiencing some concerning pop up ads in the past days.
Sometimes (not always) when browsing eBay and ign (so far the only sites where I experienced the problem) I get seemingly random pop ups.
A new safari tab will open that always directs me to youquiz.mobi where I am prompted in German (my language) to hit a button for a free registration call.
I am running on wifi, never on 3G. My iOS version is 6.1.3.
So far I believed myself to be a cautios guy. I never clicked any fishy emails or attachments.
My settings are block pop ups enable. I tried cleaning cache and cookies. Didn't seem to work.
I wonder if this could be a problem on my side (iPad corrupted) or have something to do with the sites I browse.
Any ideas on how to proceed? Should I be worried?

Try closing all app in the multi-task windows
1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
3. The app will fly off the screen

This could well be the notorious Mac Defender - which is an annoying program that tricks you into thinking that your Mac is infected with a virus, when the only infection is Mac Defender itself.
When surfing the web never EVER click on a link that says "Free anti-virus scan" or "Scan now" - they are nearly always scams which will end up infecting your computer.  Although Macs are resistant to viruses, they're not resistant to user stupidity.
If you Google "Mac defender" then you'll find plenty of sites with instructions on how to remove this minor nuisance.  Take this as a warning that you need to be more careful in your surfing habits.

  • How do I turn off pop-up blocker on new iPad if it is "greyed out" in safari settings?

How do I turn off pop-up blocker on new iPad if it is "greyed out" in safari settings?

'''Diego Victor''', this is for Firefox on Android. The Tools->Options is for Firefox on Windows only.
I think the only way still that you can turn of popup blocker on Android version is in '''about:config'''
    Try this.
Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and filter for '''dom.disable_open_during_load''' and set it to '''false'''.
After you are done you should enable the popup blocker again.

  • Ipad virus? safari randomly shuts down.

how do you get rid of an ipad virus? everyone says there is no way an ipad can get a virus, im not sure if i fully beleive that it is IMPOSSIBLE. i have the first generation ipad and in the last few weeks my internet will randomly shut off and take me to the home screen. when this happens the whole screen goes black and then the home screen reappears. Also my email has apparently sent out spam/virus to my contact list, which i am unable to veiw.

You could try a reset on the iPad. Hold down the Home button and the power button until it restarts. That might help Safari run a little better.
Is your email account set up on any other devices? Maybe your email address is being spoofed. I would suggest changing your email password.

    Hi,
Please try a Ctrl + F5 refresh after canceling the dialog box.
If that doesn't work also try reloading ('''F5''') the page after deleting all the stored site info for google via '''History''' (or '''Alt''' + '''S''') > '''Show All History''' and on the top right '''Search''' box type '''google''' and in the results right-click on '''google.ca''' and select '''Forget About This Site'''.

  • I have  a POP mail account on my Ipad. After I trash emails, they sometimes reappear latter that same day or the next day. Why is that and what can I do?

I have a POP mail account on my ipad. When I trash my emails, they reappear later that day or the next day. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and what to do to stop it?  Thanks

I have that every now and then, especially if I have an interruption when using emails, like network loss, etc.
I think the email app loses track somehow of what emails it has fetched from the server and redownloads them.
If this continues, you can try deleting the email account and recreating it, but I occasionally have had this issue since I got the iPad 1 a year ago.
Note: My settings are Delete from server = Never.
(I clear the server's email with my laptop, not my iPad.)

  • Syncing Outlook for Mac with a hotmail pop accountto 'mail' on iphone, ipad and ipod

I'm using Outlook for Mac 2011, with a hotmail account set up as a pop account to my outlook inbox.  I also have that same hotmail account set up on my iphone, ipad and ipod.  Is there a way to sync my e-mail between Outlook for Mac and the 'mail' on my other devices, so that when I delete an email on my computer, it deletes on all devices?
I'm not so tech savvy and am happy to provide any additional information but am not sure where to start!  I would appreciate any help you can give me.
    Thank you

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Contacts (Address Book).

  • I can only see three weeks of emails on the imap email account on my iMac even though the same email address set up as a pop account on my iPhone, iPad and another iMac show all my emails.  How do I change the setting to see more emails?

I have two iMacs, an iPhone, and an iPad.  All use the same email address but the new iMac would only let me set up the email account as an imap account. On this iMac I can only see three weeks worth of emails.  On the other iMac, iPhone, and iPad, this email address is set up as a pop account and I can see emails as far back as three years.  I use Yosemite on the new iMac and I cannot find out how to change the settings to let me see more than three weeks worth of emails.  This is an att&t email account which is basically a Yahoo account.

Nope. It will reset all settings. For fix errors.
Or you can try Logging out and Restart your iPad and Sign in again.

  • Safari pop up locking out my ipad 2

I have a problem with a pop up in safari. It says I've won a free ipad2 and to click ok to claim your prize. I can't seem to get rid of it. The entire screen is locked out and the only option is to click ok. I've tried rebooting and clearing all the safari history and caches. I've also tried closing all the apps running in the background. But when I open safari that page is still there and safari is locked out. Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Yes there is a difference. Resetting the iPad as described above will not hurt anything - you will lose no data or apps - settings, etc. It is similar to a computer reboot.
The reset is the suggested fix for your issue.

  • IPad virus?

Interesting thing occurring on my iPad.
If I open a new tab in safari or open a link on a page, it goes to the wanted page. But then switches to a graphic saying something about "someone doesn't like you, and you f**ked up" it then goes to a website, either a phone tracking website or something called www.mylazysundays.com
This doesn't just happen on one website I visit, it occurs on numerous websites.
So a) is it some sort of virus?
    Or b) something else?
And how do I get rid of it?

Apple's knowledge base is currently down, otherwise I would link you to a support article detailing the steps.
Restoring your iPad will involve wiping your device of all data, lets backup your iPad before attempting a restore:
Open iTunes, plug in your iPad, on the sidebar (left side) your iPad should appear, right click (or option click on a Mac) on your iPad and select backup. A progress bar will appear indicating your backup progress. Upon finishing, right click your iPad on the sidebar again and select "transfer purchases" to transfer your apps and puchased content to your computer.
Once that finshes select restore from iPad summary screen. iTunes will first download the operating system software from Apple severs, prep your iPad for restore which will erase all data on the device, then reinstall the operating system. Upon completion your iPad will reboot, on your computer you will be prompted to select your backup. This will restore your data back to your iPad.
This process can take a while (30 min+) depending on how much data you have on your iPad.

  • Pop Up on a Website = Trojan/Virus?

    Hi there,
I was hoping someone could help me figure out if I may have a virus/trojan/adware! I'm only a few months into my first Mac, so I have no clue how viruses function on Mac computers!
I was browsing the internet and went to a website that I know is legitimate (about The Sims :P), clicked a link on it, and was redirected to a website called 'sitevillian - online protection'. A pop up window appeared (along with a tiny new browser window) with no option except to press 'ok' (I think it was 'offering' online protection), so I did. It opened a website that said 'initializing' and had a loading screen. I quickly clicked out of it.
Interestingly, when I go back to my original website and click the same link, it directs me perfectly to the right page! I have no idea why this 'site villain' page loaded that one time.
I'm so scared that my pretty new macbook has some sort of trojan on it! Is there a way to know if there's a virus? I'm pretty sure nothing downloaded (at least to the downloads folder), but I don't know if things can download without your knowledge, or where to look to see if there's a problem, or what symptoms to expect or whether you can even get viruses from webpages on macs (especially when you click out of them quickly)!
Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

    Hello Kath:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
There are NO documented viruses that affect a Mac running OS X - none.
There are occasional (very infrequent) reports of browser hijacks. You visit Barbie dolls and you are sent to XXXX stuff. That is rare, and if it happens, post here and someone will help you.
Sit back and relax and enjoy your Mac One of the great benefits of running on a Mac platform is the comfort level.
Incidentally, i suggest you do not run A/V software. That stuff catches air and can cause performance problems.
Do activate the built-in OS X firewall to prevent web intrusion. (system preferences>security>firewall)
    Barry
P.S. Another very good feature is that OS X will require a password before you install anything that affects the operating system.

Do a device reset as outlined below. This will clear the message and allow you to use your device again.
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
