Further 10.2.8 to 10.3 Upgrade Questions

Hello: I've read recent threads on this subject, but just have a couple of more questions.
1. Is there any comprehensive link listing any compatibillity issues that 10.3 has compared to 10.2? For instance, I use Virtual PC alot.
2. For testing purposes, can I install on an external hard drive and test using my current apps?
3. Does 10.3 still allow me to use system 9?
Thanks for your advice.

Hi Murman:
1. I'm not aware of any website that lists compatibility issues between 10.3 and third-party software, but that's not to say one doesn't exist. You may have to check your documentation for each program you use.
2. Testing on an external drive is definitely the way to go, as long as your external drive is firewire (OSX won't boot from a USB drive). Install 10.3 on the external drive, then install your apps. Once everything is working the way you want, you can either reinstall on the internal drive, or copy any files you want to keep to the external, erase your internal drive, then clone the external drive to the internal (Carbon Copy Cloner is great, but Disk Utility will do the job as well).
3. Yes, Classic still works under 10.3; if anything, it's a little faster.
Good luck!
Andrew

Security upgrade question - I have a 4S phone v6.01 with an upgrade to IOS 7.04 already downloaded and ready for install.  I would like to install the 6.1.6 security upgrade instead. How do I delete the ios7 in the queue or have the 6.1.1 pushed as an option to the phone?

You can't install iOS 6.1.6 on that device and must update it to 7.0.6.

  • Another RAM upgrade question

    Hi everyone,
I know there seems to be lots of RAM upgrade questions here but hey thats what forums are for.
    I'm looking to upgrade my macbook's RAM it's currently got 2GB (2x1GB)
Is it possible to purchase 1x4GB and put that with one of my current 1GB sticks to create a total of 5GB?
I would be interested to know if this is possible or if anyone has tried it.
    Thanks in advance

This will work if your MacBook is late '07 or newer.

  • IDCS3 Mac and Windows SDK Upgrade question

    Hello everyone:
Well, my usually conservative Production Support Division upgraded CS3 to 5.0.3 without telling anyone and now its time for the programmers to play catchup. What I need to know (it does not mention it one way or another in the readme) is, do I need to upgrade to 5.0.2 before upgrading to 5.0.3 or is 5.0.3 cumulative.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
    R,
    John

    Jim:
I was actually talking about both. Further research lead me to believe that it was safe to upgrade the SDK from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3 in one fell swoop without worrying about the intervening versions. So I did, and I haven't had a problem yet with compiling. WRT the debug patches, however, I couldn't wait for a definitive answer, and I found no comfort in the documentation that one could make the jump from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3, so I went ahead and downloaded all the patches and ran them, one after another. It took a bit more time, but now I am sure that the final product is safe.
WRT the patches, one needs to be careful, because in its wisdom, when expanding the compressed packages, Adobe chooses to put the expanded contents in folders that are named exactly the same. It caused a bit of confusion until I figured out what was going on.

  • Enterprise 420R Memory upgrade question...

I wish to upgrade/expand the memory in my 420R from 2Gb to 4Gb. I have a complete set of memory totaling 4Gb from another 420R with boot issues (to be resolved later). I remove all memory fro the ailing 420R, set aside, then remove original 2Gb from 420R and replaced with the 4Gb of memory. When booting the server, it still reports only 2Gb RAM (the "replacement" ram from the ailing 420R was reported correctly on that machine; I removed the memory riser card, still populated, and all MB RAM modules, and installed this into the "original" working 420R). Is there something in NVRAMRC or some other setting that needs attention in order for the system to see all 4Gb? FYI: I performed a "boot -r" after booting to the PROM screen first, but the system seems to "hang" during this, with the following Response:

    haroldkarl,
just took all memory modules out for an "eyeball" and found the following:
All modules are "Samsung" from Korea.
2ea M344C1683DT3-C60C1 (0111 in upper right corner of label)
8ea M344C1683DT2-C60E0 (0035 in upper right corner of label)
6ea M344C1683DT2-C60E0 (0038 in upper right corner of label)
(this taken from the ONLY small square paper tag on one side of each module, the side without the 2 labels with barcodes)
These modules were installed in another 420R, and it reported 4GB in the "header" of the boot prom screen, while they only show 2GB in this 2nd 420R. Assuming these modules will work with each other, is there a preferred order or "pairing" of these slightly disimilar pieces?
I did check for fully seated modules b4 removing, but did not find any that were obviously not seated well.

  • Upgrade question (iPlanet Web Proxy Server)

    Hello List,
What is the procedure for upgrading iPlanet Web Proxy Server 3.6 (beta)
to iPlanet Web Proxy Server 3.6 on Solaris 2.8?
    Thank you in advance.
    - Andrew Petrov.

    Hi
This as per the HTTP/1.1 RFC (RFC2616)
The Connection general-header field allows the sender to specify options that are desired for that particular connection and MUST NOT be communicated by proxies over further connections.
The Connection header has the following grammar:
    Connection = "Connection" ":" 1#(connection-token)
    connection-token = token
HTTP/1.1 proxies MUST parse the Connection header field before a message is forwarded and, for each connection-token in this field, remove any header field(s) from the message with the same name as the connection-token. Connection options are signaled by the presence of a connection-token in the Connection header field, not by any corresponding additional header field(s), since the additional header field may not be sent if there are no parameters associated with that connection option.

  • Upgrading questions and issues

We are trying to move from Headstart version label of 18 in the current 6i repository. I think it is 6.5 or something like that. We are trying to move to Headstart version 6.5.3.2. We currently are using Headstart in our 6i Repository. To do this we have taken a RAU export from the 6i database (named ecsd) and imported into a new database (named repos1). The database repos1 is to be the 9i repository.
It seems this repository has been through at least one version of Headstart before this. In the Edit workspace it says there is a version 1.0 excluded from the workarea.
I am constrained to remove the older HeadStart objects by management. I cannot simply exclude the application from the workarea. Is this OK to do?
When I follow the Installation Instructions for installing Headstart 6.5.3.0 I really am not finding a section that deals with upgrading a repository to a newer version of Headstart or removing a version of Headstart. Is there a document on this subject? Are there any words of advice for me?
It seems to me that to references the newly installed Headstart objects what is required is to Edit Generator Preference then to set the Preference Set to the new Headstart which seems to be QMS65_RECOMMENDED. Is this correct?
    Thanks

  • HP Pavilion Elite PC Graphics Card upgrading questions.

    Hi,
This is my computer http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/hp-pavilion-elite-e9220y/4505-3118_7-33777303.html, scroll down for the specs. Im a big pc gamer and the graphics card I currently have is good but im looking to push further and get a better one. Mainly looking to get a more powerful graphic card that is compatible with the processor I currently have. If anyone can list me better graphic cards that are compatible please list all of them intill I would need to upgrade my proccesor, Thank you.

Your PC is spec'd with a 300 watt power supply.  Unplug your PC and open it up.  Read the label on the power supply.  What is the total wattage and the 12+ volt amperage? Also, is the slot next to the video card (PCI-E x16 slot) open? The e9920y specifications and motherboard.
If your PC only has a 300 watt power supply, then depending on the 12+ volt amperage you have limited choices of video graphics cards without replacing the power supply.  You probably can get the NVIDIA Geforce 220 GT to work but nothing faster. For a gamer, the GT 220 is not the best choice but it's faster than your ATI Radeon HD 4350.  At this point, you will need to replace the power supply and install a new video card if your want something faster.
Review the ATI and NVIDIA performance specifications. Look at the memory bandwidth specifications and the DirectX level support.

  • Panther to tiger upgrade questions.

I am getting an upgrade from work so I can have Tiger.
Should I backup before upgrading? How?
And if it does not work out, how can I revert back to 10.3?
    Thanks~!

Should I backup before upgrading? How?
You should backup before installing anything new. You should backup before examining your machine for hardware or software trouble. You should backup after writing data that is important to you. Here's my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
If you follow my cloning instructions there, you can just clone back your backup if the 10.4 upgrade doesn't work.
To upgrade to 10.4 you'll need to at least double your RAM to have effective speed. You'll also want at least 10 GB of free hard disk space. My upgrade FAQ* explains other things you need to watch out for:

  • Patch-upgrade questions

I have been asked to get our phone servers all up to date with the latest OS patches (service releases) and have a question that i cannot seem to find an answer to. Our phone system consists of 4 servers (Cisco 78XX MCS) 2 of which are our Call Manager publisher and subscriber and the other 2 are our CRS servers (IPCC Express). The difference is that 2 of them are 7825's and 2 of them are 7845's but they are both running the same OS (OS image, OS Service release, OS upgrade). I was looking at the available service releases on Cisco's site 'http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/callmgr-41' but it looks like those are specific to CCM so I just need to know if I can download those patches and apply them to both the CCM and CRS servers or is here another link that shows the downloads for the CRS servers operating system? I would think that it would be the same but I just wanted to check with the folks around here as I don't think that would merit a TAC case. If anybody knows if I can use the same patches and what not on both the CCM and CRS servers I wouls appreciate it.

    Hi Matt,
Great question! The page you were looking at is for SR's and patches for the Callmanager 4.1 Train specifically and would not be loaded on the IPCC servers.
    For OS Versions, they generally are the same on both. Here is a clip from the ReadMe for 2000.4.5a. These are always highly recommended reading to verify the required pre-load etc;

  • Illustrator upgrade question (5 to 6)

I have an older Mac Mini. Version 1.1. I can't upgrade the OS further than 10.6.8. I need to upgrade from Illustrator 5 to Illustrator 6. I can't use the Creative Cloud option as I need a later release of the OS (which won't run on my machine). I have looked to see if there is a traditional software upgrade available (you pay to upgrade your existing software rather than purchase a whole new application). I can't find the option anywhere.  Can someone point me in the right direction - or am I doomed?

  • Security upgrade question

Hello there, we have just gone through some new installations and upgrades (support pack level.. etc.). We've encountered few problems after this, could anyone of you kindly advise.
After running the program PFCG_TIME_DEPENDENCY in SA38, we received the following warning messages:
"Authorisation profile for role SAP_XXXXX does not exist", and
"Role SAP_XXXXX does not contain a profile or authorisations"
When I further select the message, it navigates me to another message that says "Messages for SU22 and the Profile Generator".
I checked these roles (all are SAP standard roles) in PFCG, and those that do not contain authorisation profile is because the organizational level is not maintained.
Now my question is, do I need to separately go though all these hundreds of roles one by one to maintain the organizational level for them, or is there way to mass-maintain?
Or.. does this have anything to do with SAP_ALL profile regenerate, will that help?
    Thank you for answering!

You will probably have PFCG_TIME_DEPENDENCY scheduled as a job already with a variant.
Run it from SA38 via that variant (e.g. all roles "not equal to" SAP* naming convention, etc) if you want to do it manually.
    Cheers,
    Julius
PS: It might still be interesting to compare the SAP* role menu between the old and the new. Generally, the access changes with SU22 (SAP does this, and you perform the SU25 steps => SU24), but the menu could change as well.

  • RAM upgrade question

When I ordered my laptop a few years ago it came with 4gb RAM standard, but you could upgrade to 6GB up to a max of 8GB. I bought it with 6GB. I want to upgrade to 8GB, and I know there are 2 RAM slots in the laptop. My questions is, did they use a 6gb stick in one of the slots or did they use a 4gb in one and a 2g in the other? Im hoping to get an answer so I dont have to open it up and look for myself. I dont know if I should order a 2gb or a 4gb stick to get it up to 8gb.  With that being said, does anyone know if HP would put in a 6gb stick or run a 4gb and 2gb together? Im assuming they put in a single 6gb and I would just need to buy a 2bg upgrade. Thanks  Also, would it run better if I just replaced all of it and got one stick of 8gb RAM?

    Welcome to the forum!
Yes, you can add 1Gb of PC2700 RAM to the empty slot in your machine, and it will work just fine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installation and upgrade questions.

I posted this in Photoshop and got no response so i am re-posting it here. (thanks)
My daughter has photoshop cs4 via one of the suites (design premium).
It was originally installed on her old computer as a 32 bit version.
She now has a 64 bit machine. I drive imaged the old drive to the new machine and did all the hardware drivers, and it is working perfectly.
    It is vista home premium.
How can she upgrade to the 64 bit version of photoshop without breaking her installation or loosing any of her work?
If I upgrade her OS to windows 7 Pro (x64), will that be a problem?
I have downloaded the master suite trial instalation files onto my drive. My goal is to create an installation dvd set and use it to install trial versions of the various products on a couple of different machines. The entire folder structure is over 8 gig, So i need two DVDs.
How do i split the resulting un compressed master suite installation folders to two dvds so that it functions as an install dvd?
If my son ends up buying just one product (say dreamweaver), Can he unlock the copy of dreamweaver that was installed via the master suite install dvd? or does he have to uninstall the master suite copy and re-install the dreamweaver cs4 download?
If the trial expires, can he unlock it at some point later if he purchases a key?
Does each product within the master suite have its own trial expiration date based on when that particular product was installed? or once you install one product from the master suite install dvd, the date is set for all products?
    Thanks

Cannot answer you definitely about installing 64 bit Photoshop but I suggest inserting the DVD and installing Photoshop only. The DVD should pick up that you're on a 64 bit OS and offer you 64 bit Photoshop.
I suggest clean installing Windows 7, rather than upgrade installing. That would mean reinstalling all software and drivers but it's the most reliable method in my experience.

I suspect you'll struggle to split Suites to install individual products on various machines (if that's what you mean). Suites are far more than a simple collection of the individual software titles. They're tightly integrated, must be installed on the same machine together and are all tied to a single suite serial number which is unrelated to the individual product serial numbers. I believe the downloaded Suite file has to be installed as one.
I don't know of a way to burn the downloaded file across 2 DVDs.
If your son only purchases Dreamweaver, he'll have to uninstall the Master Suite and re-install the DW download.
If the trial expires, it'll keep showing a Trial has expired screen and you cannot go further. Once you enter a valid serial number, it'll launch normally.
My understanding of the Suites is that all products are integrated. Once the trial version of a single product in the suite is launched, my understanding is that the clock starts ticking for all products in the suite. That said, I have not tried launching individual products in the Trial versions more than 30 days apart.
