Fusion 3/Win XP frozen on "shutting down"

I'm running VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 and Win XP on my iMac. Has always run perfectly. Today, I came back and found a blue-ish screen with the message "Windows is shutting down" and it's frozen there. I've tried to send ctrl-alt-del, I've tried shut down, I've re-started the imac anf the VM numerous times. Nada. Just stuck on that "shutting down" screen. I've scanned the VMWare discussin forums for help but couldn't really find anything specific.
Anybody run into this before?

You should try posting in the VMware forums as issues like this are not always the same for everyone. Likely this is more a Windows issue rather than a Fusion or Mac issue so also check the Microsoft forums and support sites for shutdown issues. For example:

Split X2 after Win 8.1 upgrade shuts down after 5 minutes and has to be hard booted to start up

This has become extremely annoying. I upgraded to Win 8.1 after I bought the X2 just before Christmas. if I leave the X2 for just a few minutes, it will either go into sleep mode or just completely shut down (no way to know which it will do and how long it will take). In any event, it has to be "hard booted", in the sleep case, holding the on/off button down until it shuts off and then restarting, in the "just off" case, just pressing the on/off button to start it again.
In either case, tons of crap regarding all of the applications - Explorer, Word, Excel, Chrome, Outlook, that had to be shut down (unexpectedly).
I did not change the power scheme and it has been reset (probably more than once) to try and correct the problem.
Thanks for anyone that can help me solve this really annoying problem.

Welcome to the HP Forums! I can imagine that would be a frustrating with the random shutdowns. How long do you have it set before it goes to sleep? There are a couple of things to check. Start by running a System File Check to see if encounters any corrupt files. Another option is the using the HP Diagnostic Tools to see if it discovers any issues with your hardware. Run the System Test – Extensive Test.

Win xp won't shut down

I installed win xp on my imac with leopard. When I go to shut down windows nothing happens. I can log off and switch between user, but not shut down windows.

when Windows refuses to shutdown it mostly means that a program is not closing/stop running but rather waits for an input (from the user or the system itself) or simply that that program has gone astray.
Open the Task-Manager (presiing the keys 'ctrl''alt''del' to enter the Task Manager and see if there is such a program.
You can also force a shutdown from within the Task Manager.

Frozen mid shut down! STUCK! HELP!

on occasion, my iphone will freeze and show a blank screen. in order to remedy this, i have shut the phone off and turned it back on as a fix. this time, however, mid-shut down, i seem to be frozen. the little round windy looking thing has been winding for over 1/2 hour. iphone will not completely shut down nor start back up. all i have is the black screen and the round and round and round and round. will someone PLEASE get me out of this??????

Hello lp14, Sorry for the inconvenience your going through today.
Try Rebooting the iPhone by Holding down the Sleep/Wake Button and Home Button down together. Do not let go till you see an Apple Logo. When you see the Logo let go.
The iPhone should take 1 min to boot back to the iPhone OS. If your not able to get back into the OS you can try letting the battery drain all the way, Then let it fully charge and attempt the reboot again.
If this still fails you might be looking at restoring the iPhone. Keep in mind if this is done all Data you manually added to the iPhone will be lost. But any Data thats on the Mac or PC should sync back to the iPhone as long as the data originated from that PC or Mac.
If you are unable to restore the iPhone the normal way. You can force it to restore. Connect iPhone into your Mac or PC, and hold the Home button and Sleep/Wake button down till you see a USB Cable on the iPhone. You will see an Apple Logo just keep pressing these buttons till you get a USB cable.
Once this is done iTunes will detect an iPhone in recovery mode, and want you to restore. Proceed with this. Restore from Backup or Setup as new iPhone if you want.
If you are not comfortable with doing this you got 2 options. Call 1-800-My-iPhone or make an appointment at your local Apple Retail Store for better assistance. http://www.apple.com/retail/

Msi win top AP2011 random shut down

My msi all in one pc shuts down every time i turn it on for the first time then i have to remove the power in order to turn it on immediately otherwise i have to wait a while (2-5min) to turn it on again.
This only happens when i turn it on once a day then it will go on and boot in to windows then after about 3min it will shut down ,then once i get it up and running again it seems to be fine.
Any help on this will be appreciated

Closely inspect the noise of the fans, are they running as they should, if they are then check out the windows logs. It logs everything including problems that occur as they happen.

Thanks for you reply ,no its not overheating it just shuts itself down once every time after the first boot and if i get it up and running after that it seems to run fine for the whole day ,i have checked the windows logs something about a sudden power loss i will check again and give you the correct message

745 win 2000 problem no shut down from windows

Hello every one;
I have a 745 Mboard with ,256 MB DDR, Maxtor 60 Gig 7200, MSI GF4 MX 440 VGA, Sweex Lan card, AMD 2 Ghz CPU, Lite on CDRW and Samsung DVD.
The pc boots normally when i restart and hold the power switch its shutting down. But when i try to shut down from Win2000 Pro it shuts down untill black screen the power button does not function and the fan and power light remain on. On the back of the casing is a switch when i switch off the pc is off, when i switch back on the pc boots again.
Is there somone who had the same problems? And knows how to solve this one.

In device manager double-click on computer and that brings up the description, if it says acpi computer then thats ok but if it says standard pc it won't shut down properly

Nokia Lumia 925 Windows phone keeps shutting down

     I have had a problem for the past 2 months, my Nokia Lumia 925 with Win 8.1 keeps shutting down spontaneously. (I did not have this problem before 8.1) This is my third phone in the last 2 months (warranty program keeps sending me replacements) and it shut down for the first time this morning. All 3 have developed the same problem, the phone will shut down spontaneously and the only way to start it up again is a soft reset (Volume down + Power for 15 seconds). I have had a total of 10-15 shutdowns between the 3 phones and this is a conservative estimate.
     I am thinking that this has to be a setting or an app that I use (and few others do) that is causing the shutdown since I have only seen a few other similar issues in the forums. Here are some of the basic facts about my situation and some of the actions I have taken:
              - I have wiped the phones repeatedly (3 phones wiped a total of 3 or 4 times not including the initial setup of the replacement phones, which is getting really old--really fast).
               - I have tried turning off NFC, but that obviously wasn't the issue because NFC was off this morning when it shut off.
                - I have tried trimming the screen protector/screen guard I installed as suggested in one of the other forums even though that seemed ridiculous (I think that was a different model phone too, but I gave it a shot)
I have not noticed any common occurrence such as
                           --when a certain app is running
                           --when it is on/off charger,
                           -- When the battery is full or low (it was 24% this morning).
               -I have 2 chargers, 3 if you include the car charger that I have never had to use due to great battery life.
               - I have called tech support several times, all AT&T can tell me is that this is not a known issue and I should wipe it again. Nokia says the same and that I should send it back to them for repairs. That seems fruitless to me because I have had 3 different phones, what are they going to repair that a new phone won't fix?
       It takes me 3 hours to reinstall and set up my apps, I am getting very frustrated. I really love the way this phone functions, the software is good, the screen is brilliant and very sensitive, the camera is great (although a bit slow), and the size and feel are perfect for me...I hope that someone here on the forums can help.

We appreciate you reaching out to our community regarding your concern. You are using a Lumia 925 as well, correct? Did something happen to your phone that possibly caused such behavior? Did you try doing fixes on it?
Latest software released for Lumia phones is the Lumia Cyan. To confirm that you have it installed on your phone, go to Settings> extras+info. You can also try going to Settings> phone update> check for updates to check if there's an available update. Are your system apps also updated? While connected to WiFi, go to Store> ...> downloads to check for pending updates. Let's hope that the phone will not shut down while doing this process.
By the way, we can try other fixes that could help us identify the real cause of the issue. In case you wish to have it repaired in a Nokia Care Point, warranty claim may vary per region and Nokia does not have an international warranty. Also, creating a backup is a must to avoid data loss. I was trying to Install 11.1.1.3 ...as far as the installation part is concerned it goes well However when it comes to configuring the configuration part fails and throws me the following error when trying to Deploy to Application server ...Here is the Log that was Generated in Configtool.log File ....Also when i try physically checking into the win services Essbase service shuts down after every services refresh ...Any solutions would be highly appreciated

I tried doing a fresh Install ...even that doesn't work.
Is it because i am using Apache 2.2 i even tried downgrading it to Apache 2.0.6 .Most important thing that i forgot to mention i am trying to configure using Web-logic 9.2 and not using the Embedded java built in controller .

What is the best way to shut down an iMac that has frozen during a data transfer? The disk I was writing to will not eject. Stopping "copy items to" doesn't work either_ it is frozen as well. Is there a way to force eject the disk so I can shut down?

Some more information on the above: OS: 7.2
1. None of the shutdown commands would work so I held the power button down and received a prompt that asked if I wished to force eject the drive, I selected
the force eject and then shut down.
2. Just recently I installed an eSATA _ Thunderbolt_ port multiplier compliant PCIe card (Seritek Q6G) into a thunderbolt external chassis (OWC Helios) (seritek Q6G).
This freeze data transfer also happened when I connected a Firmtek 5PM external tower to the iMac via thunderbolt cable.
The driver for the seritek Q6G was installed in the iMac previous to connection of any of the devices.
Both external towers mount ok on the iMac but have frozen during data transfer.
The initial freeze was with the Firmtek 5PM which is (JBOD)_ I thought that might have had something to do with the freeze_ it being JBOD_ so next I tried the Mercury Elite AL Pro Q2- which is formated in RAID 5. But then froze too.
Anybody have any experience with this?
Maybe I need another driver?
Or maybe some update to my OS?
Any suggestions welcomed.

Hello BDAqua, thanx for the suggestions. Before I saw this reply I tried to first quit the finder and then to relaunch the Finder but that resulted was a blank gray screen.
In the end I ended up having to power down the iMac.
Fortunately the RAID array that was "active" seems to be fine and also has a firewire 800 connection so I can use it_ just not with thunderbolt until this issue is solved.
I'm going to check in the Applications>Utilities>system log to see if any clues are evident_ thank you for the suggestion.
PS: Nothing of note was obvious as a root cause in the Activity Monitor though.
hmmm....I was told that the Helios and seritek card were compatable and that the Helios didn't require any drivers..it will be a drag if there isn't an easy fix for this since this new PCIe card from seritek is the first to offer port multiplier compatibility for eSATA to thunderbolt...since they are both new I'm hoping that an OS upgrade will be the fix (presently7.2)...we shall see.
