Fusion BI or Daily BI

Oracle Daily BI was YESTERDAY'S solution for e-business suite intelligence.
Oracle Fusion BI is TODAY'S preferred solution.
Please discuss???

Fusion BI is not being sold anymore. DBI is still available but not sure about licensing ( i think it comes free with e-business). DBI was still the foundation for Fusion BI but I guess you can leverage DBI content and generate a custom repository against DBI. Although this itself is a tough one, requires detailed understanding of DBI tables and their relationship. Again, as per my understanding DBI won't be enhanced further, just in maintenance mode.
Someone from inside should throw a clear light once they figure the direction themselves

  • VMWare Fusion vs. Parallels Desktop for Mac + Captivate?

I'm likely to purchase a new MacBook Pro in the very near future, and wish to run Captivate on it. I've seen a few posts in this forum by folks using VMWare Fusion with mixed results. The posts are a couple of years old, so I'm curious to get the latest thoughts.
    1. Which software -- VMW or Parallels -- would you recommend to run Captivate, and why?
    2. Which version of Windows should I purchase?
    3. What configuration do you recommend for the Mac: RAM, processor speed, hard drive speed (7200 vs 5400 rpm)?
    Thanks.

    HI,
I use VMWare Fusion on a souped up PC platform. I had been away from the MAC platform for over 10 years and had to allow myself time to get used to the new MAC OS interface. I found that switching between VMWare Fusion and the MAC OS was straightforward - after I got used to things. Since I don't want to invest in a new Adobe Technical Suite and a new Adobe CS4 Master Collection, I use VMWare Fusion on a daily basis.
I would much rather run everything on a real MAC, but since that alternative is not economic (nor are all features available) I am happy to run the MAC OS with my graphics card, and still have the full benefits of the graphics card when I'm running Photoshop and Illustrator from VMWare Fusion.

  • Daily Kernel Panic while web browsing

    Hello,
I'm receiving nearly daily kernel panics while web browsing. At first this was happening in Chrome, so I uninstalled it and went back to using Safari. The problem occurs in Safari as well. It seems to occur most often when I launch additional browser tabs (usually after 3 tabs have opened - happened in both Chrome and Safari)  The latest log is below followed by the output from EtreCheck. Any suggestions?

  • Daily Backup for Boot Camp partition

I'm looking for a Windows software to perform daily incremental backups from my Boot Camp partition to an external USB drive. It should also be possible to restore the COMPLETE Boot Camp partition from that backup in case of a hard drive failure. (It's NOT necessary that various versions of files are kept around-the-clock like Time Machine does. It's also not necessary that the backup itself is bootable.)
I've tried Genie TimelIne, but unfortunately it wasn't able to manage a complete restore. The taskbar was missing, no applications were installed (only present), settings were missing after the restore..., so I had to manually install nearly everything.
I've heard "Macrium Reflect" should be better. Is this true or does anyone have another good tip?
BTW I'm not looking for a solution to backup from the Boot Camp partition to the OS X partition and I don't want to create a complete clone every day.
    Thanks for your help!

A bit difficult to test such a software including worst case recovery if you can't dispense with the concerned computer temporarily. And VERY time-consuming!! Hence I asked for personal experiences.
Well,  Anyone elses personal experience won't mean much to you unless they have the same setup as you, so asking others for personal experience is as much of a crap shoot for you as doing it yourself.  I went through lots of testing several years ago on my first MacBook Pro, but almost none of that testing is valid for my current machine.  With the variations in machines, and machine configurations, what works for someone else might not work for you, and what might work for you might not work for someone else.  I learned this when I was testing Colnexzilla as a possible backup/cloning tool.  It worked fine on my MacBook Pro, but wouldn't work properly for a number of other users.

What do you mean I'm confusing?
I always wrote about the Boot Camp partition.
I agree that what you are asking for seems rather confusing.  You talk about backing up your data on your Windows partition, and you talk about performing incremental backups.  The WIndows 7 Data backup utility it perfect for tasks like that.  It's when you start wanting to perform disk image backups, and then ontop of that perform incremental image backups of your Windows partition that things get challenging and confusing.  Since you aren't clear about what scheme you want to use, it is hard to answer with a "clear answer" and not get confused by what you seem to be asking.
    coxorange wrote:
As far as I know that's not enough to perform incremental backups including EVERYTHING on the Boot Camp partition.
If you use the Windows 7 data backup and perform incremental backups, you will have a backiup of all your data from the Windows partition.  Isn't that want you want?  If you want to perform a restore, it will not restore you back to a bootable drive, but it will have all your data and files backed up.  If you want to perform a partition backup image, and make those backups incremental nightly, it might be possible.  Since you are talking about a Boot Camp partition on a Mac here, you also need to clarify if you want this backup to run when teh system is booted into Windows, or when teh system is runnign MacOS, or ifit is acceptable to boot from yet another media for the backup purposes.
At this time, I'm not sure that any software exists which can make backup image of your Boot Camp/Windows partition when runnign MacOS that will make a backup image that cna restore to a bootable volume and can do incremental backups.  There are few, if any backup tools that will run runder native Windows on your Boot Camp partition that will make an image file backup that can do incremental backups, and also allow you to restore to a bootable partition.  I beleive that the Paragon software is one of the very few that can do this.  I have tried and successfully made backupns and restores from backup disk images using custom boot drives for CloneZilla, and the Paragon Drive Backup tool.  I don't believe that CloneZilla will do inremental backups, and I'm not sure about the Paragon software as I stopped using Boot Camp about 1.5 years ago when I upgraded to my current MacBook Pro.  Now with this system, I don't run native Windows, I only run it virtualized using Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion.  For both of those, I get a full system backup with each MacOS backup I take, since the Windows File System is virtualized and stored entirely in files on my MacOS partition.

  • Time Machine backup and VmWare Fusion

    Hello,
I added a 500GB external hard drive to my new iMac so that I can take advantage of Time Machine backups.
My question is that does Time Machine also make backups of my XP system that is running in VmWare?
I'm not really keeping any "files" on my XP machine as I am keeping them on my Mac's drive.
    Thanks
    David

Open the TM application, locate the files you want to delete, then use the tool gadget drop down menu in the Finder window's toolbar where you can select options for deleting selected items.
Consider excluding some items from you backups to reserve space. Exclude system files such as the System folder, exclude your VM Fusion files, exclude any additional hard drives connected to your computer. Excluding such things can save gigabytes on every incremental backup.
Use a third-party utility such as TimeMachineEditor to change the frequency of backups from hourly to daily, for example.

  • OBIEE and Daily Business Intelligence

Has anyone tried merging the content of BI Apps and DBI?
If you have, please comment on the proposed solution http://www.appsbi.com/obiee-and-daily-business-intelligence/
    Thank you

The BI apps which you can buy now from oracle had nothing to do with DBI.
The BI fusion (or something) which you could buy 2 years ago or so had to do everything with DBI. (but oracle stopped with this indeed)
it's all a bit confusing because Oracle still uses the same name.
This was an OBIEE solution on DBI. But custimizations were not supported on this. The BI apps you can be now will support custimizations/extensibilities!
Hope this will help you out for a bit...

  • AutoCAD LT - Boot Camp - Parallels/Fusion

I need to run AutoCAD on a new iMac 21.5" purchased this week, and am wondering how best to accomplish this?
Is AutoCAD processor-intensive to the point that Boot Camp would be the preferred method, or would Fusion or Parallels work fine, without too much of a performance hit?
I will probably hold off on this until Apple releases their Boot Camp drivers for Windows 7. I would rather not install an obsolete OS like XP or Vista now that Windows 7 is out...but think it might be wise to wait for the Boot Camp in case that's the best way to go.
There will be some other work-related apps running on the Windows side...but I don't think it's going to be needed on a daily basis...more like 2-3 times a week.
Any advice on which way to go (Boot Camp or Parallels/Fusion)...and, also, is it recommended I go with 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows 7?
    Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have AutoCad installed on the Mac, both in Parallels and in Boot Camp. The installation works best in Boot Camp for me and feels as good as on a PC. In fact it seems to run faster on the Mac. I also have 4GB of Ram installed, and it seems fine. Will have to give it a speed test some time just to find out. I have it installed as 32 bit and see no problems. Depending how intense your design is you probably won't need any more memory, wich is one of the big reasons for using a 64 bit. Also I would actualy install your AutoCad on a friends windows 7 and make sure it runs well. I have heard from friends they had several problems with it. Don't know the reasons for it............Art

  • VMWare Fusion, Boot Camp, and Orb

I'm trying to use Orb to stream audio files (podcasts downloaded daily within iTunes to be exact) to a Blackberry. Orb is currently only Win compatible (meaning the streaming can only be done from a Win computer), so I've got VMWare Fusion loaded on the Mac running Windows XP via a Boot Camp partition (I think I've described this properly). In order to enable the XP side to access the podcast files, I've set up shared folders within VMWare Fusion, and then targeted those shared folders within Orb to be streamed.
The problem is that Orb is supposed to regularly rescan those folders looking for changes to the content (as in new podcasts), but this doesn't seem to be happening. And I'm wondering if anyone has idea as to why. Could it possibly be because I am doing Windows via a Boot Camp partition? I see within Fusion that I can't use mirrored folders in this setup (Windows in a Boot Camp partition...at least I think this is the case). Would that make a difference (mirrored folders vs. the basic shared folders approach)?
I know this is sort of in the weeds in a non-Mac product (Orb), but it will make my wife really happy on her two hours of daily commuting if she can access those podcasts without having to remember to attach the iPod to the computer every night, which this setup (if it works properly) should enable her to do. The Blackberry is always with her.
    Thanks very much.

Yes, you need to make some changes, for some reason VMware still claims non or limited support for 64-bit but you can edit a file and work around the problem. When creating a fresh new Fusion environment for Vista.

  • OBIA replace Fusion Intelligence

We installed and configured OBIEE and Fusion Intelligence in our Development and Functional Testing Instances. We are about to go to Preproduction and then to Production Instances very soon with the same setup.
But Unfortunately we came to know that the Fusion Intelligence replaced by OBIA. Please recommend/suggest the best way of going to OBIA i.e.,
    Do you recommend:
    1) Fresh Installation of OBIA (or)
    2) Upgrading the existing Fusion Intelligence to OBIA.
    Our Current Set up:
    ==============
    1. OS : AIX5L (64 bit)
    2. DB : Oracle 10.2.0.3
    3. Application : Oracle 12.0.4
    4. 10gAS : 10.1.3.1.0
    5.OBIEE : 10.1.3.3.2
    6.Fusion Intelligence : Patch 5999439 [R12.BIS_PF.A] and 6003217.

Fusion Intelligence sourced from Daily Business Intelligence. BI Applications source from specific EBS base tables. The union of the two may not be precise.
You will first need to figure out which areas in the Analytic Applications match up with what you used in Fusion Intelligence. Then you will need to create the shell Data Warehouse and configure the appropriate Execution Plans in the DAC. If you still have reporting gaps then you will need to either create new Informatica Mappings and associated DAC Tasks OR. connect directly to the EBS base tables using BI EE and bring that data into the Repository.

  • Excel Workbook with Excel Data Model stored on SharePoint - daily refresh

I'm not sure if this is exactly the right forum but I'm hoping that someone here can either answer or point me in the right direction.
I have an Excel Workbook with an Excel Data Model.
The Excel Data Model uses SQL to contact our data warehouse and pull through data into tables.
We are storing the Workbook on a SharePoint site and viewing it using Excel Services.
The data in our data warehouse is updated daily and so I would like to refresh the workbook daily and remove the option to refresh the data in the browser.
Is this possible with a workbook that has an Excel Data Model (I've seen lots of posts that relate to workbooks with connections to tabular models).
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I have answered this issue in this thread that you posted in SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint forum, please see:

  • Report for daily production and daily sales quantities

Can you Please any body let me know what fields and tables should I pick to generate a report for sales qty and production qty for a material on daily basis. we are using PP PI

    Hi,
You can use table MSEG for that purpose. Try BUDAT-MKPF as one of the selection parameters and use
    MBLNR-MKPF = MBLNR-MSEG
    MJHAR-MKPF = MJHAR-MSEG
Sort the results in ERFMG-MSEG and ERFME-MSEG using
    BWART-MSEG = 101 minus 102 (for production)
    SOBKS-MSEG = E
    BWART-MSEG = 601 minus 602 (for sales).
Above stuff might be useful to you for your development requirement provided you are having Sales Order specific production.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Using a VMware Fusion XP environment with multiple Mac users

    Hi,
I have installed an XP environment using VMware Fusion. I am only able to start this XP environment when logged in as the user that created it. How can I grant access to this environment to other MAC users on my machine?
    Any input is much appreciated.
    Kind regards, Hans.

Thanks all, thanks for your input. I have been able to solve it now.
As suggested I moved the VMWARE file to the shared folder. Then I assigned read/write access rights to the specific users. This is something I had not tried before. Somehow just moving to the shared folder did not change access rights on file level.
    Thanks all,
    Hans.

  • Time Interval for Daily Calendar in APEX 3

    Hi,
we're looking at upgrading to Apex 3 and I have a question about the Daily Calendar time interval. Is there a way to change the interval to say, 15 minutes from the default 1 Hour?
    Cheers
    Kofi

    Hello Kofi,
"Now looking at what I can see on apex.oracle.com, are you saying we'd just have to modify the daily calendar template?"The template only control the look of the calendar, not its functionality. If the default daily view meets your needs, you don't have to define any new templates.
"I'd imagine that the whatever is creating the tags that will be displayed by the template needs changing to incorporate the other 15 minute cells I would add"Most of the calendar functionality you can control can be defined on the "Calendar Attributes" tab. The most important is the date column. If this column includes reference of time (on top of the date, of course) the APEX engine will automatically associate your entry with the proper "Hour" row. You are not adding cells. You are adding calendar entries. If several of these entries share the same hour slot, APEX will put all of then in the same row.
The best way to understand it is simply define these entries. As I understand, you have access to apex.oracle.com, so it shouldn't be a problem.
    Regards,
    Arie.

  • I am facing error while running Quickpay in Fusion payroll that "The input value Periodicity is missing for element type KGOC_Unpaid_Absence_Amount. Enter a valid input value". Any idea?

I am facing error while running Quickpay in Fusion payroll that "The input value Periodicity is missing for element type KGOC_Unpaid_Absence_Amount. Enter a valid input value". Any idea?

This is most probably because the Periodicity input value has been configured as "Required" and no value has been input for it.
Please enter a value and try to re-run Quick Pay.
