Fusion drive keeps needing re-install

Hi,
I've just bought a new iMac (27", i7 3.4, 3tb Fusion drive, 32GB ram...) and when im installing software (adobe CS6) the machine locks up and i have to boot up in safe mode. I run a check and i always have to re-install the system software which is a pain! Do you think the fusion-drive is faulty? I've been buying mac's for over ten years and never had anything like this happen!
Any ideas before it goes back?
Thanks in advance!
Darren

Hello Greenacreguy,
Based on the error message you are getting, its recommended you do a clean reload of your BlackBerry software.
It sounds like you may need to reload your device software.
You can follow  KB11320 for the reload process but be sure to back up your BlackBerry before hand as all user data will be deleted.
It is advised to do a selective restore of your data after the reload. You can consult KB23680 (for Desktop Manager 6.0) or KB10339 for all other versions.

I'm running VMWare Fusion, and will need to install MS Project.  Do I also need to install Microsoft Office to run MS Project?  I already have MS Project for MAC.

Microsoft Office is typically a separate product from Project.  You should not have to install Office to get Project.

  • FAT32 external drive keeps needing repair/restore

    Hey folks,
I recently received a Samsung TV that I have been hooking an external USB drive to but it requires it be formatted in a FAT32 file system. So I do this, and copy files over from my mac and everything works fine.
However, when I unplug the hard drive from the tv and plug it back into the computer after one or two times or so, the mac won't recognize or mount the drive. When I open up disk utility and verify it, it says it needs a repair: (unable to read directories, input/output error) attempt a repair, it says it is not possible, so I just have to erase it and reformat. I've done this probably 3 times, so far--does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep it from happening in the future? I've noticed that the last time it happened, it had connected to my mac and was copying files, then stopped and told me that I was unable to read/write the disk. Then, when I ejected and plugged it back in, it was unrecognizable.
Thanks, and apologies in advance if I haven't found this issue addressed previously.

How are you removing this drive from your TV? If you just unplug it without ejecting it in some way, then each time you remove it from the TV you are probably corrupting the drive. You should check your TV's manual to determine the correct procedure for disconnecting a drive.

  • Early 2008 Macbook Pro hard drive crashed, need to install a backup on a new disk. How?

My early 2008 250gb hard drive recently broke and I took the opportunity to upgrade to a new 500gb drive. I had OSX Lion on my old drive, but I only have my original OSX Leopard install disk.
    My question is:
How can I migrate my old (complete) back-up onto this new drive? And should I use disk utility (I never use time-machine).
Any idea on how to fix this issue, or a detailed explanaition would be extremely helpful!

  • Installing Windows 7 on Late 2013 iMac w/ Fusion Drive

Sorry in advance for the long post, but I have tried to exhaust all possibilities, and bring as much knowledge about our environment to the table to avoid confusion.
Here's our goal:  Install Mac & Windows on a Late 2013 iMac with a 1TB Fusion Drive
Install our Mac Image with Deepfreeze on Partition 1
Install our Windows 7 x64 Image with DeepFreeze on Partition 2
Here's why our goal cannot work out of the box:
Deepfreeze for Mac, is not supported on a Fusion Drive. Now before anyone says "just don't use deepfreeze"...we are using it, and that is that.
In order to get our existing image to work on the iMac, we had to split the Fusion Drive.
    Splitting Up the Fusion Drive
We booted into Recovery, Opened up terminal, retrieved the LvGUID, deleted it, and split up the SSD from the HD.
So now, we have a 128GB SSD, and 1TB HD showing up under Diskutilitiy.
We then partitioned the 1TB HD, into two, 500GB Partitions. One for Mac OSX 10.9.4, and the other for Windows.
The 128GB SSD is going to be used for scratch space, temp, etc. And is irrelevant at this time.
    Deploying our Mac Image
After splitting the Fusion Drive, we netbooted and installed a "NetRestore" of our image. Worked completely fine, no issues. DeepFreeze Works fine, the 128GB SSD shows up just fine, and the other 500GB Windows Partition shows up fine. All drives / partitions can be written to with no problem.
    Deploying our Windows Image
Deployed our Windows Partition image as we have done in the past, by booting into a windows PE Disk. (We have other various 2009, 2010, and 2011 iMacs across campus, with NO FUSION DRIVES installed, and dual boot them successfully using the same procedure. Minus the splitting of the fusion drive part of course) After the Windows image is deployed to the windows partition, we then boot it up to a Windows 7 Install disk to fix the MBR, Bootrec, and BCD options to allow it to boot properly. Here's where we run into issues: Upon getting the Windows 7 Install screen, the USB Keyboard and Mouse, DO NOT WORK.
Here's the options we've tried to get them to work properly
    1. Tried another known working Mac USB Keyboard & Mouse = Failed
    2. Tried a known working Windows Keyboard & Mouse = Failed
    3. Plugged Just a known working Mac Keyboard into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    4. Plugged Just a known working Windows Keyboard into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    5. Plugged Just a known working Mac Mouse into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    6. Plugged Just a known working Windows Mouse into each USB Port to see if recognized = Failed
    7. A Windows 8.1 Recovery USB will boot and the USB Mouse & Keyboard are recognized and installed! (YAY!!) However, we cannot repair a Windows 7 install with Windows 8.1..
    BootCamp Drivers & Support Media
Downloaded the Current BootCamp Support drivers to enable the USB and other various drivers to be loaded during setup (Placed the $WinPEDriver$ and AutoUnattend.xml, and BootCamp folder on the Root of a USB, and modified a Windows7 Installation disk and placed on the root as well) The drivers do not load. Have also placed on a brand new USB2, and USB3 flash drive formatted at FAT32, to see if that made a difference, which it did not. The BootCamp USB made within Mac, it loads saying "Now booting into Boot Camp Assistant Created USB Drive..." or something like that (Don't remember the exact Message)
    Side Note:
Restored Fusion Drive to its original State, and booted from the BootCamp USB drive, still no usb Mouse & Keyboard Support.

    I have same issue
Tried everything differend hdd, ssd  as well
Basically when trying instal win 7 via iOS maverick when reboting and windows booting to the first scree everything freezing cant do  much.
Also tried install clear ssd without any system, but soon after format ssd or hdd I have error that I cant use this disk to install windows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is funny Windows 8 installing without any problem!!!
what is going on APPLE??wher is support
This issue I have only on Late 2013 on my other Late 2012 this issue not exist and everything working as should.

  • Need help installing my graphics driver in windows vista via boot camp

New to mac so first time on forum as well.
Love the Mac but i also want to get on some old games. C&C The First Decade mainly.
    I am currently using below.
Mac mini Mid 2011 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core it
    Memory 4 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
Installing windows vista home premium 32 bit
I have installed windows vista home premium using boot camp assistant and downloaded the windows drivers as well. After i have installed windows i installed boot camp using my Mac OS X snow leopard which installed boot camp 3 or 3.1 i believe and i eventually got apple updates for 3.2 which is what i am now runnning on vista. I had trouble getting my sound to play through my speakers at first but eventually got them working and now it is my graphics driver that i cannot seem to get working. In vista(I also downloaded service pack 1 and 2) when i go to control panel and check out my device control it shows a yellow exclamation point next to the adapter. I guess i need help in getting my graphics installed correctly on my windows. Is there something i should take off to install the correct driver? Or do i just need the correct driver download? If i have the correct driver how do i upload it onto my windows side in the device control.
When i try to run c&c generals/zero hour i get a directx 8.1 error, red alert 2 is black but i can hear. i know these games can work i installed the graphics correctly the first time when i did not have sound as this is my second time installing windows so the game did load when i did not have sound.
    Advise?
I was thinking about saying forget this i can't waste hours of my time anymore but i have to be close to getting everything working if i had graphics before and no sound but sound this time and no graphics. I was also thinking about just buying windows 7 home premium sp1 64bit system builder dvd off amazon and reinstalling windows using windows 7 but i want to make sure i can play these games before i spend the money. I thought my mini couldn't support windows vista and if it did only boot camp 4? how am i getting this far to get things to work?
What is the driver i need to install to get these games working? What do I need to do or what am I missing???
Do i need to install a different boot camp off apple and find a driver that will get mine to work in vista?
Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated i have been at this everyday for hours.

Also is there something, say maybe a driver, that was installed i do not need that is blocking me from installing the correct drivers? What driver in my boot camp folder do i need to install to get to the correct display to run those games.

  • Will VMware or Parallels work for a 3TB fusion drive?

I'm in the market for an iMac but I need windows for work-related stuff (and some games)
I have an older macbook pro (13" the first year the 13" went pro, 2009 i think) and I load windows through bootcamp, so no problems there.
I understand that the 3TB fusion drive won't work with bootcamp so my only option seems to be either VMware or Parallels (i haven't used either of these) to load Windows 7.
Just wanted to ask to make sure that there is no limitation with a 3TB fusion drive and VMware or Parallels.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Scott

There are limitations with either choice you make.
With boot camp, that is where you partition the drive to install windows and have a dual boot system, and a fusion drive windows will be installed on the rotating standard drive only. Not utilizing the ssd flash storage at all.
If you go with a virtual machine install of windows in either parallels, vmware fusion or the free vm program virtualbox from oracle the limitation are in the virtual hardware used. Most specifically in the virtual video card all of the virtual machine program use. So if you are using graphic programs the preformance in a vm will be lower then if windows was in it own partition and using the real hardware in the system. On the plus side for a virtaul machine install of windows is that you can run both os x and windows at the same time, windows and the virtaul machine program might be placed on the ssd part of the fusion drive and will actuall run faster then if it was in its own partition on the standard rotating hard drive.

  • Fusion Drive on Windows

    Hi everyone,
I'm planning to buy iMac Late 2012. I'm going to order with maybe 1TB Fusion Drive and wanted to ask if it will work with windows... So what do you guys think?
    thanks, Enes

A computer with Fusion Drive works properly with Windows on Boot Camp. Only iMacs with 3 TB Fusion Drive have problems to install WIndows on Boot Camp.
Before using Boot Camp to install Windows on the Mac, see if you need a virtual machine or Boot Camp > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321 Also, note that you will have to install Windows through a USB drive, or buy the USB SuperDrive if you have Windows on a DVD

  • Can Bootcamp run on the new fusion drives?

I'm interested in hearing from people who had a success with installing Bootcamp on the new fusion drives. I read a lot of the challenges in the beginning. i'm considering af new iMac with 1tb fusion and wont buy if I cant run the Windows Bootcamp for games.
    So what are you saying?

Do computers that come with a Fusion Drive support Boot Camp?
Yes. Use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition and install Boot Camp. The Windows partition will exist on the hard disk drive, not the Flash drive, and is not part of Fusion Drive Logical Volume Group. 3TB Fusion Drive configurations need to update to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later to install Windows 8. See iMac (27-inch, Late 2012): Boot Camp alert with 3TB hard drive for more information.

If I buy a mac mini with a fusion drive and add windows using boot camp, can I make the SSD function be dedicated to the windows partition?

Additional information from Linc's post. Basically, only one additional partition can be added to a Fusion Drive and it resides on the HDD.

  • "No Bootable Device" after failed Boot Camp installation (Windows 8 - 1TB Fusion Drive)

On my new iMac /w a 1TB Fusion Drive, I tried to install Windows 8 (still technically unsupported) using the following method:
    http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/11/no-support-no-problem-inst alling-windows-8-on-a-mac-with-boot-camp/
Everything was proceeding just fine; I had Boot Camp copy all of the Windows 8 files (a legitimate, store-bought copy) to a bootable USB drive - a feature only available on new Macs running Boot Camp Assistant that don't come with an internal optical drive - and create a 102 Gb partition on the Fusion Drive. It then rebooted and was proceeding through the Windows 8 setup wizard as should be expected, but it couldn't modify any of the partitions on the Fusion Drive and wouldn't proceed. I accepted defeat and decided I would just wait until Windows 8 is officially supported before trying again.
Now, every time I turn the computer on, I get an error message saying "No Bootable Device...", unless I hold down the Option key and manually select "Macintosh HD" (the only boot device listed). I already removed the primary Windows 8 partition, but it hasn't fixed the issue.
I'm thinking that it's one of the 'hidden' partitions causing it to behave like this, or something wrong with the EFI bootloader, but I don't know how to proceed. Any thoughts on this?

I actually did try this (forgot to mention it), and it didn't fix the problem.
However, I just resolved it on my own, doing what I probably should have tried before anything else: running "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility updated all of the boot preferences as it should have.

  • Do I need to install something to make the TV tuner function?

I just purchased a TouchSmart tx2-1275dx Notebook, and am trying to figure out how to use the MediaSmart TV application.  The video to tell you how to do it said that all HP computers come with a built in TV tuner, so I am assuming this is correct.  However, when i enter the TV section of MediaSmart, it says "No TV tuner card detected." and when I go to the internet TV section, it says "No Internet TV Content Available. Downloading the available internet TV content. Please Wait..." forever.  Every other section of MediaSmart works perfectly.
Is there a driver I need to install, or something I need to fix?  Or am I just mistaken, and I need to buy a TV Tuner, in which case what do they usually cost and are there any recommended ones?

Not all computers come with a TV Tuner card.  I looked up your model's product specs and it doesn't show that you have a TV Tuner card installed, so you'll need to purchase an external card for that feature to work.  You can purchase an HP USB TV Tuner card here for a fair price.

  • Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 14.4.2 Update fix for fusion drives

Improves activation in Office for Mac 2011
This update fixes an issue in which product activation is always required after you restart a computer that uses an Apple Fusion Drive. After you install this update, product activation may be requested one more time.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2970766

I don't normally advocate users re-install Office to fix an issue but in your case I think it's worth a try. The Mavericks update seems to have fixed the issue for most users. I would suggest the complete removal rather than the simple removal of dragging the Office folder in Applications to the trash.
