Fusion for two Mac users

Our MacBook Pro is set up for 2 users. Wife is primary user & is Administrator. Husband has his own password and preferences.
Husband installed Fusion when logged on under his password.
Wife goes to use Fusion when logged in to her side and Fusion wants her to install it.
Can we both access the PC environment, each from our own log in password?

The VM Ware forums would probably be a better place to post:

  • Mime attachments in Mail from two mac users

I've been receiving mime attachments in Tiger Mail from Ebay and members for a while and I've searched the forum for answers but haven't found a viable solution yet. I end up using TextEdit to open them. I've contacted ebay about this and they have no clue, and think it's spam even though I tell them I get them from Ebay tech support, however they do show up ok in my RCN webmail when I check there.
Anyway that's not the problem now, I was trying to troubleshoot my father's mail problem who is Panther Mail and it mysteriously stopped working for him a couple days ago both sending and receiving. However he is getting them from his webmail at SBC/Yahoo formerly Ameritech. I checked his account settings over the phone and they seemed correct to what he had before but I had him contact his provider.
They don't seem to know what's going on and wanted him to contact Apple.I had him contact them again and they finally did have him change his outgoing mail server from Ameritech to SBC/Yahoo. So he is able to send from there now but not receive emails. ( he still still sends and receives ok at his webmail site) . Since they changed the outgoing mail server however, the email he sends me (all plain text) is coming now as a mime attachment.
I've never seen this before from two Mac users using Mail and plain messages. I had him try changing back to the Ameritech outgoing sever but that still doesn't work. And again if I check my RCN webmail I can view these messages fine in the body of the email there, just not in Mail. Any ideas what may have caused this? Is it because of the Yahoo outgoing mail server? He's about givin up and has resorted to his webmail only for now. I generally like Mail but this is a pia.

    <Where is it designated as a "mime-attachment" & where does the "27bytes" text appear?>
It shows mime-attachment(27bytes) just below the little plain document icon. This shows up both in the body of the email and also the little attachment drop down menu below the To / subject area.
<Also, if you go to Mail's View > Message submenu when one of these messages is open, which (if any) 'alternate' menu choices are available (not grayed out)? >
All are greyed out except Long headers and Raw source.
Here is the header info in the message if that helps any:

I have two ipods in my house that were set up under the same email.  I have since assigned two different emails.  How can I change the game center account so that is not shared by both ipods because it is for two different users and they are not happy?

By "game center account", do you mean Apple ID?
If so, you can change it.
    1. Tap settings and navigate to iTunes and App Stores
    2. Tap "Apple ID" and then tap "Sign Out"
    3. Log in with a different ID.

Hi There:  I am having a problem where pdf files on the web (i.e., links in a Word doc) open after an extended time and only as gobbldygook ( a file containing a series of characters and letters that make no sense).  This also happens for another Mac user coworker in my office, while the PCs don't have this problem...  Any help/suggestions for a fix would be most appreciated!

Just adding more info - MacBookPro running 10.5.8 and using Safari as the browser.  The problem comes and goes - sometimes the linked Word files will open OK, n others its just a strring of crazy characters...

  • Same query takes different time for two different users with same privileges

    Hi,
Just wanted to know if it is possible for an INSERT query to take different amount of time for two different users for the same volume of data. If so, what could be the reason? I would like to add that we are not executing the query simultaneously. But it is always faster for user1(within 10-20 seconds) and slower for user2(takes around 8-10 minutes).

Show execution plan for each user. I think there is other reasons which you didn't not tell

  • Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

Can I burn photos onto a DVD/CD for non-Mac users?

You can burn a plain CD/DVD by just dragging the photos there; but, that may or may not be playable by everyone. To be sure that the result would be playable in any computer or CD/DVD player, it would be better to use either one of the apps already on your system - such as iPhoto. I don't use that myself - I use other third party software - but take a look at iPhoto help. And, you could make it more interesting by creating a slideshow - also in iPhoto, or iMovie. To give it the final cool touch, bring it into iDVD to give it a polished look if you'd like. You can burn it then from any of the above.
If you happen to have Toast (an excellent burning app), you could use that as well (that is my preferred way to work). In Toast, you have multiple choices: burn a data CD/DVD for Mac only, for Mac & PC, etc, burn a picture CD, video DVD, etc, etc.

  • I am trying to purchase Fusion for my Mac in a foreign land

I am trying to purchase Fusion for my Mac. I work in France and when I click on purchase it goes to the French website and offers me a French version, I don't want a French version.  If there are any Fusion people out there please contact me or tell me how to override this annoying feature.  There is a link to change language but even after doing that it just ignores it and returns to the French site for purchases.

These forums are for Apple products.  You need to contact the people who make Fusion or use their forums for this problem.

  • Is it possible to share the same iCal on two MAC users?

Please help me. Is it possible for me to share the same iCal on two different MAC users? I know that you can sync it to an ipod or iphone, but can you share it on the same MAC with another user?
If anyone knows, please tell me! Thank you!

I think the easiest way to share calendars between the two users on the same Mac is by using Google Calendars/Calaboration.
After following the instructions in the link, export your iCal calendar and import it into the new Google Calendar. All events will appear in the new Google calendar which you can see in iCal or gmail. Set this up with the same google account information used when configuring the first user account and both users will be able to write and/or remove events in the calendar using iCal.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using iPhoto Library in Ext HD for two macs

I realize that if I put my desktop library on an ext hd and open from my laptop (same user name) it won't have albums or events or something and that I mess things up if I try to add photos from the laptop. But can I just point my laptop to the ext hd to view or copy photos and then later successfully fully use my ext HD library in my desktop? I'm pretty sure my laptop would open the ext hd library, I'm concerned about the laptop writing something to the library that would get me in trouble on my desktop. I just want to be able to view pictures on my laptop. I've haven't tried it since I didn't want to write to the Ext HD library (if the laptop would do that).
In other words, sharing library between two macs with one being view only. thanks, ralph

sharing library between two macs with one being view only. thanks, ralph
    Really easy:
Enable Sharing in the iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), on the iMac. Leave iPhoto running and move to the laptop. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The iMac Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running on both machines for this to work.
it won't have albums or events or something and that I mess things up if I try to add photos from the laptop.
Actually, it will have exactly the same Albums, Events etc. After all, it’s the same Library.
that I mess things up if I try to add photos from the laptop.
No you won’t. What will mess things up is if you try and open the Library on both machines at the same time.
    Regards
    TD
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Lightroom 3.6, two Mac users on same computer, sharing same catalog?

Lightroom 3.6, Mac 10.7.4, images storred on networked 3TB RAID 2 hard drive, trying to use program and same catalog by two different users on the same machine. Installed program on my wife's user account, moved catalog into her Public folder, set file sharing to allow me to Read/Write all files in the folder. Quit Lightroom, logged off as her, logged on as me, started Lightroom. Lightroom asks me to selecet a catalog, I navigate to her Public folder and select the catalog created under her login. Lightroom will not open catalog, stating that the file isnot writable.
Have looked under System Preferences and confirmed file sharing status that allows both her and me to Read/Write to all files in her Public folder. Confirmed that I quit Lightroom under her account (not just minimized) and logged off as her (not just switching users).
I sure hope that this is possible - I don't want to log on as my wife every time I need to use the program and have to look at her wallpaper and file organization. My bigger goal is to set things up so that I can buy another Mac for me, buy another copy of lightroom, and access the same catalog from the other machine via our LAN.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • After creating two mac users do not see when I turn on the second

Hello , after installing Yosemite I created two administrative users , turn on the computer but I do not see you and the other , I have to get into the first and by this move to the second . how do I fix ? thank you very much

    Hi jpacchioni,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact issue you are describing. If you are saying that you are not seeing a login screen or the second user on startup, thereby forcing you to go into the first user and then switch to the second user, you may need to check your Login Options. You may find the following articles helpful:
    Customize the login experience
If you are an administrator, you can specify how the login window looks to all the other users.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Click the lock icon  to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
In Users & Groups preferences, click Login Options.
Click the “Automatic login” pop-up menu, then choose a user, or choose Off.
If you choose a user, then whenever the Mac starts up, that user is automatically logged in. If you choose Off, then at startup the Mac opens a login window showing all the users. Automatic login takes effect the next time you restart the Mac. For better security, don’t set your Mac to automatically log in an administrator. If FileVault is turned on, automatic login is disabled.
Select the options you want. If you have any questions, click the Help button for detailed information.

  • Stacks and other simple issues..... for new Mac user

My first computer was a commodore 64 with DOS commands and I've been a PC user ever since. You guessed it, Friday I went to the Apple store and bought an iMac! I was up and using it in minutes so I am impressed. However there are a million little things I just can't figure out or that take hours, for example at the Apple store the docking bar when you ran your mouse over the icons they jumped up. Well after a few hours I figured out how to make mine do that! (so cool).
At the store they showed me "stacks" where i put my mouse on something and I could see, pix or documents or e-mail I had somehow saved there, very handy but if my Mac can do that I sure don't see how.
    Here are my two questions:
    1) how do i make stacks work (is it some program i don't have?)
    2) is there a web site or book or something with all the easy stuff (tips and tricks) in it a brand new Mac user should know? (i hate to keep bothering you all with simple questions)
    Thanks, Susa

    Welcome to Mac.
    1) Just drag any folder to the right hand side of the dotted line (the Trash side) of Dock. Then click. Or click and hold on the stack and choose how your stack displays.
    2) take a look at Mac 101 and Switch 101. There's a wealth of info there.

  • Can I use a single external drive to maintain time machine backups for two Mac computers?

    Hello
We have an older mac mini and macbook air.  I have one Western Digital external USB drive.  Can I use the same drive to hold and maintain time machine backups for both machines?
I already have the macbook air time-machined on the WD drive.  I now want to backup the mac mini onto the same drive.  Is it going to over write the time machine backup or is the software smart enough to maintain two separate files, partitions, whatever it does..?

It will maintain separate backups. Note that it's generally advisable to use separate drives for best practice backup, but yes, it will work for both computers, provided you have enough space (need generally 2-3 times the total used file space for both Macs).

  • Why can't Apple make 'publish changes only' for non .mac users?

The recent iWeb update to 1.1 and the now increasingly obvious differential between .mac and non .mac features has prompted me to post here today.
I can understand comments, passwords and search facilities being a .mac only experience because it requires server side technology. I can also understand that .mac users get enhanced features like slideshows as well.
But why is the fundamentally *basic* option to 'publish the changes only' not available to non .mac users?
I know uploading to .mac uses a different protocol to uploading via FTP, but I don't think it is about that. Obviously the software engine in iWeb 1.1 can now track the pages that have changed, and flag those for uploading. So if the facility to do this is not available with non .mac uploading, is this some form of crippleware? Can any software engineers comment on this or am I talking off the top of my head? [And please mods, don't delete this post - I use the word 'crippleware' in its harshest form, clearly I can still use iWeb to make fantastic websites - I am asking a technical question here.]
    Michael
    A Trusty Quicksilver G4 Dual 1GHz

    OK, from reading this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=486335&tstart=0
There is a pattern: An error occurred while publishing file “/blah/blah", while file "/blah/blah" seems to be random from one person to the next, but they all share one thing and that is communication protocol.
For iWeb to be able to publish changes to .Mac, it has to:
    1. identify if the file exists
    2. do the following:
2a. if not exists, copy it to .Mac
2b. if exist, do some sort comparison - CRC checksum -
2b1. if checksums match, don't copy
2b2. if checksums don't match copy it to .Mac
At least I think that's what going on, I don't have .Mac so that is best I can think of. Perhaps, some Apple SW engineers can jump in here.
Now, the bad part is iWeb has to (and I'm assuming iWeb uses WebDAV):
    1. go thru each file locally
    2. crawl its way into .Mac (WebDAV is a slow protocol) to find the the counter part.
    3. when it finds a file that matches a client side file, it has to (some how) do checksum on-the-fly across the net work (which is slow and congested)
#3 is I think where it failed, there are many factors here: 1) networks congestion 2) latency 3) protocol overhead 4) checksum calculation time etc...
iWeb eventually times out because any/all of the above.
It's nice that WebDAV can author to the host yada, yada, but it's so SLOOOOOW.
What I would do is for every publishing, I would build a files and their checksums keep it on the host (or local, must be hidden).
For subsequence publishing, I would (use a fast protocol like FTP) download this pre-built files/checksums list. Locally, do a full publishing, making checksum comparison, the result is delta changes; upload only those. Build a new files/checksums list upload that too.
What I mean to say is offload everything that is possible to local machine, bandwidth is PREMIUM!
