  • Installing Apps for learning purpose

I want to install Oracle Apps for learning purpose and I have few questions:
    1. What version is preferred 11i or 12?
    2. What operating system should I use?
    3. Where can I find the installation?
    4. Could I install it for learning without purchasing a license?
    Thank you.

    1. What should I download for starting? I understand that all the rapid install disks, is it right? If you select "Oracle® Applications 11i Release 10.2 Media Pack for Microsoft Windows" then you need to download all the zip files belonging to the following parts:
    - Rapid Install Start Here
    - Rapid Install RDBMS
    - Rapid Install Databases
    - Rapid Install Tools
    - Rapid Install APPL_TOP
In addition, if you wish to install any language other than American English, download the Rapid Install NLS Disks for the corresponding languages.
    2. What is the use of each part? For example there are three Databases disks. You need to use all the disks mentioned above. Each set will be used to install a component like Oracle Database technology stack, APPL_TOP, Oracle Applications technology stack .. etc
    3. Is the demo company (VISION) included in the files? Yes. At the time of the installation you can select to install either a production/test database or a vision demo database, all are included in the same media kit.

  • Configuring Oracle for learning purpose in Laptop

    Hi all,
I would like to configure Oracle11g in my laptop for learning purpose. Basically i would like to learn PL-SQL by creating some stored procedures and playing around that. Could you just tell me as to how to simulate a pl-sql development environment in home laptop?
    Thanks in advance

Please clarify what you are referring to as OEM and Rapid Sql.
If by OEM you mean Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control, a database management console, then you would need one of the "full" editions not XE. I believe you may install and use even Enterprise Edition with a for-free license, as long as it is for pure learning purposes/self-education. See what it says about the OTN license in the top of the [url http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html]downloads index page.
For SQL development tools in general, XE should do fine as long as you build apps within its feature set.

    Hi,
Is it possible to download current Red Hat Linux for learning purpose? On their website, you either have to purchase the regular version or download a 30-day evaluation version.

How different is Enterprise Linux compared to Fedora? To add Sergio's post, Fedora and Enterprise Linux are based on RedHat distribution. Fedora is non commercial distribution and is very popular. Enterprise Linux is quite new (name of distribution) in the Linux world (announced at the end of october) and it is clone (as Sergio said) of RH EL 4 U4.
All I need is an opportunity to learn Unix/Linux.Any of Linux distributions will give to you this opportunity. And for learning of Linux Fedora is good enough.
    Is Enterprise Linux more popular?
Popular than what? Fedora? It is too soon... (IMHO). Enterprise Linux is ideal candidate for productions systems which needs official support and (of course) systems which where Oracle products will be running on. In this scope (commmercial sphere) Enterprise Linux will become popular than Fedora (which has support only from volunteers) but I don't think that Enterprise Linux will be more popular as Fedora at all...

  • Problems in Dialog instance installation for ECC6.0(ABAP+JAVA)

Does anyone can help me what should be a procedure of installing Dialog instance for ECC 6.0 with both ABAP + Java Stacks.
When installing app server do we also choose ABAP and Java or just ABAP. Installation manual does not cover this and when we run the sapinst we have following problem:
<u>The following are the activities that I have done as pre-reqs on the standby on the server that is to host dialog instance</u>
I have mounted the following file systems on ddrsap02. Created the local filesystem /usr/sap/DSP/D00 and NFS mounted the others…
    /dev/appsaph      5505024   5503856    1%        5     1% /usr/sap/DSP/D00 <b>(is this required or SAPINST should create it itself)</b>
    ddrsap00:/stage   419430400 149761708   65%    90835     1% /stage
    dprsap01:/sapmnt/DSP     4718592   2888416   39%    12790     2% /sapmnt/DSP
    ddrsap12:/usr/sap/trans     2752512   1084932   61%     5107     3% /usr/sap/trans
Then when I run the sapinst from ddrsap02 to install the DI I get the following error

Am I missing some pre-reqs or variable definitions?
I was going through the documentation and it says that  /sapmnt/DSP/exe should be a local filesystem for a DI on a separate server. Will this create a problem ?
Also they talk about starting sapinst with the variable SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME set to ddrsap02. I have tried this also
We are also not 100% sure about the settings for parameters:
    rdisp/mssserv
    rdisp/mssserv_internal
Accorss Devault Instance and Services Instance profile.
When we define it as per installation GUIDE (Abap+Java page 64) we get the popup message in SAPINST:
<b><html>Profile parameter <em>rdisp/msserv_internal</em> is not set for instance DVEBMGS01/DSP on host dprsap01.<p>You have to set the parameter in the default profile and restart the instance.<p>For further information refer to SAP Note 821875.</html></b>
    Other errors follow shortly.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi ,
are you able to resolve this error :Profile parameter rdisp/msserv_internal is not set for instance DVEBMGS01/DSP on host dprsap01.
You have to set the parameter in the default profile and restart the instance.
For further information refer to SAP Note 821875.</html>
? if yes , pls let me know , I am stuck with same issue while installing dialog instance .
    Thanks

  • Can I use Oracle Developer Day.ova for learning purposes without any  license? #developerday

    Hi friends,
i have installed oracle db using Oracle Developer Day.ova for practicing on my lappie.
I want to connect to that DB which is inside oracle vm virtual box manager using PUTTY ( which is on my desktop). I dont want to use the in-built workspace or Terminal(whatever is its name).
Can you guys please suggest what should i do so that i can login to the DB using the PUTTY only (i love it )? i am not able to login to the host "localhost" using the putty.
Few years back when i had installed vmware(linux installed in it and db installed on linux) i could connect through putty.
I am using below entry in the hosts file.
    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
        127.0.0.1       localhost
    #    ::1             localhost
'localhost' and its ip address of 127.0.0.1 are non-routeable.  Any request to send a network message to localhost will never leave the machine from which the request originates.  And for all intents and purposes, your virtual machine is a different machine.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 evaluation for learning purposes.

    Hi to all,
what is the less expensive (and fully legal) way to build a private lab with Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual machines to practicing me to take exams for MCSA certification ? I have already terminated the 180-days evaluation period for Windows Server 2008
    R2.
    Many thanks

I've downloaded and installed several different versions of Windows Server many times using the same account and information, if there were a problem with it, I'm sure Microsoft would have raised a concern with me.  You can't really run a business by
tearing down and rebuilding your infrastructure every 6 months, and by installing, using, and learning from evaluation installations, I am just one more able-bodied individual with Windows skills to improve the supportability of their current and future install
base.  My use of those eval products has no real commercial value to Microsoft because I wouldn't pay for it if I had to and I am not using them within a business infrastructure.
Nothing in the evaluation terms of use that I have seen says you can only install it one time, ever, in any environment, and nothing in the delivery and use of the evaluation versions has prevented me from reinstalling.
The bottom line I guess is you have to use your best judgement.  I wouldn't recommend continuously reinstalling to support a real business infrastructure as a way to bypass licensing.  I can't tell you 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt that Microsoft
fully approves of reinstalling an eval for your own personal development needs.  I seriously doubt that Microsoft would spend the time and resources to chase you down for it, though.
And I agree with Milos - you would be better off pursuing a server 2012 certification, for which there are also evaluation versions available.
I hope this post has helped!

  • I want AIX OPERATING SYSTEM, FROM WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD FOR LEARNING PURPOSE

I AM PRESENTLY WORKING IN WINDOWS OS, DUE TO GOOD DEMAND IN AIX OPERATING SYSTEM AS BACKGROUND FOR ORACLE. I WANT TO LEARN, AIX BUT I DON'T KNOW FROM WHER CAN I GET THIS OPERATING SYSTEM. IF ANY ONE KNOWS PLS REPLY ME ON [email protected]

Well, first you need to buy the hardware, a pseries/system p box, and afaik the os is included.
As an alternative, maybe you can look into getting remote access to AIX host.
Also, please in the future do not use all caps in forum messages.

  • Number of BO XI's instance (installation) for only 1 CMS

    Hi everybody,
does anybody know how much BO XI's instance can run at the same time.
Actually, I'd like to have a Network Load Balancing with 4 servers on which BO XI would run and only 1 DB Oracle containing the CMS.  Is it possible?
    Thanks,
    Regards,

    CA Forum: Administration
Yes, you can cluster as many CMS services you want.  You juts have to point them all to the same CMS database.
If you install a CMS service on another machine and point it to an existing CMS database it will automatically recognise that you want to cluster and the CMS name will become the Cluster name.  The clustername will be inherited from the machine name of the first CMS you installed with an @ sign at the start.
Do you really have 2000 potential concurrent users though??

  • Fusion CRM installation

I am from siebel CRM background, currently learning Fusion CRM.  I have few queries below.
    ·         How to set up learning CRM environment in VMware(On premises). Only CRM instance in fusion(Tables related to CRM).
    ·         Is it possible to install Only CRM in VMware with RAM capacity 4 GB.
    ·         Can I download server software from edelivery.oracle.com? If yes pls. provide link.
    ·         Pls. provide documents/videos available on this
    Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Fusion world!
You can certainly install a Fusion CRM environment on premises.  I am not 100% sure if VMWare is officially supported, but I suspect it would work fine for learning purposes.  The installer will let you choose among "offerings", so you don't have to install all of Fusion Apps -- you can limit it to just CRM and whatever bits and pieces it needs from the other product families.  For instance, you will need a bit of HCM, but the installer knows the dependencies.  The database itself will have all the tables, but you won't end up with a ton of mid tier servers that you don't need.
You can download the "DVDs" (zip files) from edelivery.oracle.com -- just search for Fusion Apps and the platform of your choice.  Release 8 is the latest On Premises release.  You will need to download all of Fusion Apps, but again, the installer will let you choose only CRM.
Documentation can be found on docs.oracle.com -- for Fusion Apps the installation doc falls under the "Lifecycle Management" category and this is a direct link: Getting Started with Oracle Fusion Applications Lifecycle Management Release 8
So far the good news.  Unfortunately you will not be able to get this to work with just 4GB of RAM.  You will need a lot more.
    Hope this helps,
    Oliver

  • EP Central System + Dialog Instance Installation options

    Hi Friends
For my production EP 6.0 WAS 6.40-Java instance I am getting 3 AIX servers, say server DBserver, Appserver1 & Appserver2, we want to install the database & CI on the DBserver, the other 2 servers need to serve the role of Application servers to the DB+CI server.
In our SAP R/3 Production systems we don't allow the users to login to the server hosting the (database+CI) & we allow them to login only to the appication servers, I want to do a similar setup for my Production portal landscape & require that the portal users are load-balanced using the SAP Web Dispatcher to the 2 application servers.
I have 2 questions on which installation options to choose to achieve the above objective.
    1.  Can somebody check & confirm if the below mentioned Installation sequence is correct for Installing the WAS on the 3 servers.
    a) Using Installation option "Java System ->Oracle->Central System->Custom Installation-Java system" for the DBserver.
    b) Installation option "Java System ->Oracle->Central System->Dialog Instance Installation" for Appserver1 & Appserver2.
    2. Can somebody advice how do I need to install the portal on the 3 servers so that the above objective of load-balancing the users to the 2 App servers is met.
    a) Do I need to install portal only on the DB+CI server & then the portal platform will be setup on the 2 App servers as well or
    b) Can I install the portal separately on the 2 portal App servers.
    Thanks & Rgds,
    Abhishek

    Hi Friends
Any replies will be appreciated & also rewarded with points.
