Future Dreamweaver Features

I read the following article:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402489&sliceId=1
And Adobe plans on removing ASP.net Server Behaviors?? How is
a user supposed to connect to an Access Database without using
Microsoft Expression? I know PHP connects to MySQL, but that
software package is much more expensive than access? (Or is it?,
maybe I am missing something)
It's just my opinion, but I think it's crazy to remove
support to a simple, reasonably cheap DB when a basic one is all
that's is needed as compared to connecting to MySQL.
Again, I may be missing something, which is why I post here:
For the enlightenment.

You can use ASP, or even PHP to connect to an Access
Database. Both of
those will be supported in future versions.

Huh? Both are FREE. Although your host may charge you for
access to their
MySQL server, that change is a) a passthrough charge to your
client, and b)
usually nominal anyhow.

  • Dreamweaver Feature Requests :: From GoLive Users

Those of us who have loved GoLive seem to also love the format of this forum. Rather than letting this forum die, I thought maybe it could be put to good use by us contributing ideas and what we like best about GoLive's UI, and other tools, for future versions of Dreamweaver.
    Linda

Well I'll give my 2 Cents.
Adobe, if GoLive was such a bad application, then months after it's demise, why are there still calls to revive it in some way. I am also like Linda, using Dreamweaver and GoLive, but there's really no comparison. I find Dreamweaver, confusing, has a very poor UI, and annoying overall. GoLive on the other hand was and is a pleasure to use.
I have tried the Dreamweaver 4 beta and IMO it's not any better than 3. IMO, what Adobe has done is appeal to the coders and programmers out there rather than those of us who like to "Design" websites. Most if not all of the Moderators in the Adobe Dreamweaver forum say they don't design the websites themselves, but give their ideas to a designer and let them design the look of the website. I read that and almost fell over laughing. It's obvious most of them are not artists but coders and programmers.
DW arrived on the scene before Golive and IMO Adobe saw that 95% of the people were using Dreamweaver and so Adobe knew if they dropped Dreamweaver in favor of GoLive that they would be losing 95% of market share and a lot of $$$ so IMO they went with that safe choice, and disregarded the actual features, ease of use and benefits of GoLive.
IMO if you were to put Dreamweaver 3 up against GoLive CS there wouldn't be any competition. GoLive would win hands down.
Yes, I would support any effort made to get GoLive into development again, either by Adobe (not likely) or if someone (a company or individual) could either buy it or develop a whole new application that was very similar.
I don't even think anyone of significance at Adobe ever darkens these parts do they?
Hope something works out because Dreamweaver obviously isn't for a lot of us.
    Thanks

  • Dreamweaver Feature I'm Looking For

Find and replace is a real time saver, but unless I'm simply
not seeing it, I'd like a see a way to handle the results a little
differently. If I do a find and replace on a 500 page website, and
120 pages were fixed, it's painful to get these uploaded to the
server. Wouldn't it be nice if the results pane in dreamweaver that
displays all the pages you've just updated, could then be uploaded
without having to dig through the files menu looking for them, or
reuploading the entire website? Would seem to be a common sense
feature to have. If anyone knows a nice work around to speed this
process, or a feature I'm missing, please point it out to
    me.

This is present in Dreamweaver CS4. Perform your search.
Select an item in the Results panel, right click and select Put.
You can select multiple items to put them all.
If you're using CS3 or lower, then you might be able to use:
Right click on files panel, choose Select -> Recently
Modified. Enter 1 under Files created or modified. Then click OK to
select those files modified in the last day. Then click the Put
button in the Files panel to push those files. Unfortunately, this
dialog won't let you use less than 1 day to search for, but it may
get you close enough to the list of files modified in the find and
    replace.

  • A Ruler Request for Code Mode

    This is a link
to an image of what I'm referring to.
I'm not quite sure where to post a request for a future
Dreamweaver feature addition. Moreso a feature change.
I'd really find it useful to be able to use the ruler at
least at the top of the document you're currently working on, while
    in "Code" mode.
Is there anywhere that I might be able to request this? Or is
there a way to make it offer me the option to use it in code mode?
Because right now, the option is greyed out unless you are in
    "Design" mode.

  • Where can i make a suggestion for a mail feature on a future update?

I was looking for somewhere to make a suggestion for a future mail feature on the iphone, but couldn't find a place to do it.
It would be useful to be able to set mail fetching as manual in the evening and timed during the working day so my evenings aren't disturbed by work emails.
What do you reckon Apple? A feature for the next iOS update?

  • Unable to open Dreamweaver using OS X 10.9.2

I recently updated to Maverick OS 10.9.2 and am now unable to open Dreamweaver CS5 11.0--an error message appears saying that Dreamweaver closed unexpectedly.  I've also tried installing Dreamweaver updates but I'm not able to.

Please try to clean your DW CS5 preferences by following the steps mentioned below:
Open “Finder” and press CMD+SHIFT+G to open the “Go to the folder” dialog
Type ‘~/Library’ (without the quotes; note the ~ sign before /Library) and click “Go”
    Navigate to “Application Support/Adobe/”
Locate the folder named “Dreamweaver CS5” and make a backup of this folder (this will be needed to restore vital preferences later)
Rename/Delete the folder “Dreamweaver CS5” (again without the quotes)
Create a new folder named “Dreamweaver CS5” (again without the quotes)
Create a new folder named “ab_XY” (without the quotes; for example: en_US; you can get this in your backup folder! where ab_XY is the locale in which Dreamweaver was installed)
Navigate inside the folder “ab_XY” and create a new folder named “Configuration” (without the quotes)
    Navigate inside the folder “Configuration”
From the backup folder, copy the following folders (if available/present on your system) and paste them inside the “Configuration” folder (please the attached screen shot “Restore_Selected_Preferences_CS5_Mac.png” for reference):
    CodeCollapse
    CodeColoring
    CodeHints
    DocumentTypes
    DVADialogPrefs
    Snippets
    Workspace
Open “Finder” and press CMD+SHIFT+G to open the “Go to the folder” dialog
Type ‘~/Library’ (without the quotes; note the ~ sign before /Library) and click “Go”
    Navigate to “Preferences/” folder
Locate the file “Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs” and rename/delete the file
Now try to launch Dreamweaver again and see if you still face the issue.
Please Note: After you have launched Dreamweaver, please ensure that you DO NOT launch “Adobe BrowserLab” panel. Please create a new workspace by following the steps mentioned below, according to your liking but please refrain from using “Adobe BrowserLab” panel as this is known to cause a crash in Dreamweaver on Mac 10.9.
Steps to create a workspace (without “Adobe Browser Lab”):
    Launch Dreamweaver
Locate “Adobe BrowserLab” (but don’t open it) and click the top-right-hand-side corner of the panel and  select the option “Close Tab Group”
Now, arrange the remaining panels in your workspace as per your liking
Go to menu “Window -> Workspace Layout -> New Workspace…”
In the “New Workspace” dialog, provide a name of your choice and click “OK” button
Also, you may like to visit this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/dreamweaver-java-se-6-runtime.html for a known issue of Dreamweaver not launching after upgrading to Mac 10.9 (Mavericks).
If the issue still persists even after cleaning your Dreamweaver CS5 preferences, please let us know. We would like to have a connect session with you to resolve your query at the earliest.
Also, let me take this opportunity to propose and introduce the latest Dreamweaver CC to you. Dreamweaver CC provides you the potential and ability to do much more and gives you the cutting edge in your business. You may like to take a look at its features at http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/features.html. I’m sure you’ll find more than what you have been looking for and you’ll love them.
Here's how you can buy Dreamweaver CC:
    Visit the link http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver.html
Towards the bottom-right-hand side, locate “Adobe Dreamweaver CC” and click “Join” (please see attached screen shot “Where_To_Buy_Dreamweaver_CC.jpg” for reference)
Select “Month-to-month” OR “One-year” for “Plan”
Click the “Add to Cart” button
Follow the easy and descriptive step-by-step “Checkout” instructions
Please let us know. We are eager to help you.
    Thanks,

  • Why can't I "save as" a page in Dreamweaver without the layout staying in place?

    Hi,
I'm using Dreamweaver 5.5 on a Mac. When I "save as" my template page ends up all out of order, for instance, the horizontal menu ends up vertical which distorts the whole page. This only happens in Dreamweaver for the Mac. I am using a template by Project Seven Developers and it works fine on a PC. Does anyone use these templates or have problems "saving as" another file?
    Desperately need help!
    Thanks
    Marilyn

Glad it worked. I knew it would
If we designed products based on Dreamweaver's rendering capabilities,
we would be doing pretty primitive stuff - much like what Adobe does for
    its starter pages and such
Column Composer Magic uses what's called a Design Time style sheet,
which is a Dreamweaver feature that allows a style sheet to be used just
by Design View. It is not used on the web by browsers. We use this style
sheet to dumb down our CSS to Dreamweaver's rendering capabilities.
When you do a File - Save As, the connection between the original page
and the DT style sheet, which is carried in an Adobe Notes file, is not
rolled over to the new file. We have no way to prevent this. What we can
do, as covered in our user guide, is to allow you to run our interface
on your new page. When you do so, a new connection is made between the
DT style sheet and your page.
We are looking into different ways to deal with this, while continuing
to hope Adobe finally modernizes Dreamweaver's Design View each year.
It's only been about 12 years, so we are still hopeful.
Seriously, in most other respects beyond Design View, Dreamweaver has
advanced very well. Unfortunately, a lot of designers associate
Dreamweaver's Design View with their actual design and wind up severely
    limiting themselves.

  • Sharepoint and Dreamweaver?

    Hi,
I am thinking of setting up Sharepoint for a client of mine but they are quite savy with Dreamweaver and want extend some of the functionality with dreamweaver. I don't think this is possible at the moment and visual studio is the tool of choice to add plugins etc to the Sharepoint but does anyone know if this integration is planned in the future dreamweaver roadmap?

  • Why Dreamweaver CC delete Databases, Bindings and Server Behaviors (PHP/MySQL)

I installed Dreamweaver CC on my laptop and notice that Dreamweaver CC has no Binding, Server Behaviors and Database.
A lot of my project get done by these feature (Binding, Server Behaviors and Database.), mostly for the website mock up for my clients.
Why Dreamweaver these features? We need these feature back...
For the liquid layout I don't like it, I prefer to use bootstrap then Dreamweaver feature.
Dreamweaver CC just change Dreamweaver into CSS editor comparing to previous version.

I'm not a spokesperson for Adobe.  I just use the products.
DW CC extensions use .zxp files.  Formerly, CS extensions used .mxp files.  It's imperative that you use the correct Extension Manager version for your version of  DW.
    CS5 = CS5 extension manager
    CS5.5 = CS5.5 extension manager
    CS6 = CS6 extension manager
CC = CC extension manager and so on...
    http://www.dmxzone.com/go/21842/enable-server-behaviors-and-data-bindings-panel-support-fo r-dreamweaver-cc/
There have been exhaustive discussions in this forum about the deprecated server-behaviors and Adobe's decision to remove them from CC -- presumably to discourage people from using them anymore. If you want to continue using SBs, do so at your own risk since Adobe no longer officially supports or endorses them.  And if you can't get the extension from DMZone above to load in CC, your fallback is to use CS6.

  • Does Dreamweaver CS6 have an iPad viewer

I wanted to know if the latest version of Dreamweaver in CS6 will have he ability to see what your website will look like on an iPad.  Many clients want to see what their site will look like on an iPad moreso than any other device.
I found this website to have a ot of articles about iPad apps useful too but no mention of the latest version of Dreamweaver displaying a site as seen on an iPad. Please keep me posted!

Why dont you download the XCode? It's available for free from https://developer.apple.com/xcode/
You have an iOS Simulator that comes bundled with XCode with which you can simulate apps and webpages across iOS Devices.
That said, CS6 is supposed to have revamped PhoneGap support with a new emulator that can test layouts of the apps/ HTML you build in DW. More on that here: http://www.adobe.com/in/products/dreamweaver/features.html#categorylens_aa0_featureset_27c b
You could also get the latest version of PhoneGap directly here: http://phonegap.com/start#ios-x4

  • Dreamweaver CS3 with existing Server Behaviours

    Hi All,
Obviously i'm aware of the upcoming launch of Dreamweaver
CS3, which looks good, I'm currently using MX 2004 and considering
upgrading, however before i do so i have some queries.
We specialise in building ASP applications, which is why we
bought MX 2004 in the first place, as it included a number of
Server Behaviuors like login, go to detail page, recordset builders
etc, however as we found up, some of the key Server Behaviours,
like file upload and smartmail were not included.
Since then we've spent a lot of money buying extensions such
as WebAssist's SuperSuite and DMXZone's SmartMailor and
PureASPUpload to mention but a few.
Obviously keen to ensure before we purchase Dreamweaver CS3
that it is still aimed at developers and ccomes with Server
Behaviours but also that it still supports all of these extensions
and that we wouldn't therefore be losing the use of these very
    usefull tools.
    Thanks in advance

Dreamweaver CS3 most definitely supports server behaviors:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/features/allfeatures/
    "Open server and technology support
    "Support for leading technologies
"Take advantage of support for leading web development
    technologies,
including HTML, XHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, Ajax, PHP,
    Adobe®
    ColdFusion®, ASP, ASP.NET, and JSP."
AFAIK, all leading extension developers have been given the
    opportunity
to test their extensions with the new version. To find out
    whether the
particular commercial extensions you use are compatible with
    CS3,
    contact the developer directly.

  • Question about different Dreamweaver versions

I have Dreamweaver MX 2004 installed on my laptop, but I am
used to and much perfer the presentation of Dreamweaver MX 2004:
Educational Version (which I use when in classes here at
university). What I mean by presentation is the layout of
    dreamweaver features on the screen.
E.G. Seperate file tabs appearing at the bottom of a clean

the content area is it's own window, and file tabs are located at
    the top:

Is there any way I can change my DW MX 2004 to look more like
    the Educational Version?

DMX2004 was a huge step forward from DMX, in terms of
    template management,
CSS management, and 'anomalies'. I'd strongly recommend that

  • DW6, basic refresh causes instant crash

Hello, I have recently installed the creative cloud.  Everything appeared to install correctly at first glance.
Some apps such as photoshop, indesign, dreamweaver seem to be opening previously made files no problem.  But, I can reproduce an appcrash of dreamweaver CS6 every single time I hit the refresh button after making a change to the code on a number of files in a certain section of our website that includes javascript/jquery galleries in them.  I have opened many files now and can reproduce this crash on every file with these galleries and content sliders from one site we are making. I have both .shtml and .html versions of these pages and either one with the jquery galleries are crashing as soon as I make any code or text changes and try to hit refresh.
I run windows7 64bit.  I have the CS5 Master suite installed from previous.  I can't remove cs5 until I know cs6 is indeed working.  Right now I'm not able to save changes to a large number of files in dreamweaver.  So hopefully I don't need to uninstall CS5 just to test.  It appears to maybe be something with the extra javascript content slider/galleries on the page conflicting with dreamweaver during refresh or save.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    ----------------------------------possibly unrelated issue-------------------------
Also noticed during this time, first day of CS6 use attempts, I am having licensing issues requiring repeated sign ins at application load.
Presenting notice that my trial period was over and that I need to license the product.  I click the button for licensing it using my adobe ID and it works.  But this has happened now maybe 8 times today already during these crash and restart attempts.
Activated!  at least until I try to fire it up again.  I don't know if this licensing thing has anything at all to do with the crashes mentioned previously.  They seem unrelated since I have no trouble refreshing code or saving files in CS6 on files without the jquery slider/galleries.

Thanks Nancy.  I'll try disabling the live view javascript and external files loading and report back.
The site does have external files and does have use javascript and jquery.   My extensions are already turned off.
On the activation side, I just got done speaking with adobe support about that and they shared my screen and fixed some permission settings on a specific adobe system folder that was installed new with CS6.  I'm hoping that holds this time. Seems to be so far.
Otherwise, they took a quick look at my web pages crashing (the ones with and without javascript/jquery) and I showed how a single letter change of anything in code view and hitting refresh would crash the file immediately.   At first she said it was because I was using shtml files.  But the fact is the same crash occurs on our copy of the site that is only .html, without server side includes, proves that wrong. I showed her that as well.  Next she figured it was the jquery on those pages.
A supervisor came on the line to help further, supposedly.  She is the one that got the activation working.  But she also basically just told me that they don't support any jquery whatsoever as it is a third party piece of sofware.  Ok fine.  But we were able to build this site with CS5 dreamweaver with no issues a month ago.  The only issue working with CS5 is that you couldn't expect it to live preview the site consistently and was often slow on preview loading those external files and whatnot.  Never crashes to desktop, and certainly not for changing a single character in the code and saving or refreshing. I can reproduce this error with this site on standard html 5 .html files and the .shtml files alike.  Any page that has our content gallery slider in it. Crash on hitting the refresh button.
To me it's something with CS6 handling jquery.  This site validated with no errors last friday.  One warning on CSS that was more of a suggestion.  Sadly, our biggest reason for upgrading was for the "enhanced jquery" features.  But now I'm thinking that in their sales literature that their enhanced mobile jquery support just means support for their proprietary new jquery mobile modules they have created, and actually may crash on a lot of other sites people already had third party jquery in.  We are using almost the very newest standard jquery library.  I think there is one newer now, with some standard slider/gallery javascript functions and a couple custom scripts. This just saddens my heart a bit to upgrade and find out about these crashes.  I was certainly hoping for CS6 to be more accepting of newer web tech, not less. The woman simply repeated that dreamweaver does not support jquery.  And yet their main page for DW6 says this:
    "jQuery Mobile support
Add advanced interactivity with jQuery code hinting. jQuery makes it simple to add interactivity to web pages."
Is this the kind of sales tricks that occured when they supposedly started supporting "layers" and "divs" but in reality it was only supportying a thing called APdiv and APlayers.?
To top off the enjoyment of my phone support call so far, the supervisor hung up on me when I was asking if there was anyone to submit my html files to for possible future dreamweaver udpate teams to review, in case this was just something goofy causing this.  Since it only happens when trying to hit the refresh button.  She repeated one last time that only higher level support would look at files and that would cost me over $200 in support fees.    I asked if the forums or some dev site would be a good place to start looking into a solution.  She hung up.
Again, thanks for the tips Nancy.  I will try disabling some of those view options...  Anything to stop the dreaded CTDs.  But one of the major features in CS5 was the ability to be connected to your external files, search through the list of them, open some of them in code view, et al.   Is this a step backwards, or basically a workaround for brand new software already.  I suppose.  I hope this workaround of disabling features works for now otherwise DW6 is getting shelved until further notice.  I suppose I have 30 days to request my money back.
I hope I don't find these issues in other pieces of cs6 cloud.  I had already had an issue working with old cs5 photoshop files in cs6 trial.  Please let these be the only two issues to crop up. This cloud subscription idea is great, some of the new software features are great.  But not if I have to recreate everything.
