Future flash
Do any of you know what the future developments of flash may
yield... specifically, do you know if it may be possible to record
webcam, and do other things that would negate the need of flash
media server. Also anyone have any ideas as to when flash 9 may be
released?
There are two kinds of licenses for FMS... but unless you're
planning on a ninitial investement of $45k or more, you'll only be
interested in the $4500 pro license.
Each license may be installed on a single server only. You
can't install the same license on more than on server (actually you
can... but it's a violation of the license terms).
In the FMS configuration files, you define which license
profile you wan the server to use. The profile you select is
applied to all of the licenses on that server.
Let's say you buy 2 licenses and install them both on the
same server. If you set the config file to use the 100/unlimited
profile, you'll have 200 available connections and unlimited
bandwidth on that server. If you choose the 1000/40 profile, you'll
have 2000 connections or 80mbps of bandwidth (whichever is reached
first).

In future flash player available or not
What in next generation flash player. flash player available or not. Why iam asking this question adobe donates flex to apachie , adobe stop development on brouser based flash players and adobe stops linux air runtime. what next flash future flash available or not. why adobe doing this kind of things any one reply.
[moved to Flash Player forum]The plug-in is for browsers use only. Not for desktop use.
You are looking for the standalone flashplayer.
For now, you can open .swf files directly with your internet
browser, but that is it. -
Future Flash Video --wish.
I am quite a big fan of the Flash application. Excuse me if
you find too many wishes irritating. This will be my 2nd and last
post to your board I figure.
I know a college professor, who is a big believer in the
future of Flash video.. I personally, am looking -forward- to a
possible Flash Video codex (codec?) maybe something similar to the
technolgies used for uTube.. I would look forward to a 'futuristic'
Flash Video codec where video could easily fill a typical computer
screen. When would such a technology develop- where such as that,
would be possible.I dunno

Hello
I was digging around in all the docs and infos found on the net about p2p and Stratus even listened to Matthew Kaufman's talk about p2p.
I read that p2p will be included to FMS also available with LCCS also in the future flash players p2p will be included and also possible over LAN without a server.
My question is that will there always be a free Stratus like service provided by adobe or any other method to connect flash players from remote locations together with or without a server. And as I understand connecting flash players from remote locations together with p2p can't be done without Adobe interaction or buying Adobe developed software. Am I right?
ThanksHere's another very good set of questions I'd like to see addressed by Adobe.

Are video closed captions possible on iOS devices via Flash CS5.5?
Hello,
I'm creating a Flash video player with closed captions for my job and curious - if we buy Flash CS5.5 is it possible to save or port the video player with the closed caption option and have it work on iOS (iPhone/iPad) devices? We're trying to make all our current and future Flash video completely accessible to all users on all devices. If it is doable, any guidance received on how to do this is very much appreciated. If not possible is there any insight that this feature may be added to Flash CS6 or whatever it may be named?
Thank you,
:duane.Hi,
Thanks for a speedy reply.
My app is basically a hybrid app (web app in a native container) When I was testing, the scrolling in my app did not work on iOS4 and the whole app was very slow but on iOS5.1 it was fine and very quick. I’m guessing the safari version made the difference.
I know it will get rejected if I submit it as they will test on iOS4 which doesn’t work well at all and I don’t want users using it on iOS4 as it’s a bad experience. I know I am probably going to reduce my installs if it’s only for iOS5.1 but its only a free App and I don’t see any option if on iOS4 it’s pretty much broken.
I really hope there’s an easy way or my last month’s work has been pretty much pointless. -

Is it a wise decision to use flash for e-Learning course.
Dear Friends,
Iam working for a company which is developing e-learning courses in Flash with AS3, Learning management system in dot net. There was a discussion with my superior, one guy was telling nowadays flash users reduced, in future flash will be outdated. This is not a wise decision to use flash for e-Learning.
Another issue is we cannot show our courses in ipad or Iphone.. please pass your comments and ideas to me. and suggest me, whether how can i use my swf courses in to ipad or iphone or tablets... Tell me whether iam in a right way.
i need another info, Whether silver light will be an alternate to create elearning courses with interactivity? That guy suggested Silverlight (because he is a dot net guy).
i need ur serious advice and info. Please tell me, list of companies using flash for Elearning development.
Kindly advice me whether i can continue my courses in Flash with AS3 or should i stop and change my work environment.
Regards,
Syed Abdul RahimThe contents of what you're trying to teach make all the difference.
Are your tests very visual requiring interactivity with visual objects and media or are you just asking questions with various form-esque inputs (text inputs, radio inputs, etc)?
If it's very visual then it's worth considering AIR to some small extent but you'd really need to have a lot of time invested for that.
Ultimately I'd be converting it to HTML5/JS/CSS3. That's the 99.9% positivity rated presumption I'll make. As a general consideration, where Flash may previously have been used to "grade" a paper or tell the user their current answer is correct, this might need to change. You should be sending the users answer to a server to get a response. JavaScript is plain-text and can be read so you'd want to curb cheating by making sure the server contains the answers and not the client. This is an automation you'll lose by abandoning SWF.
I use C#.NET myself and I'd avoid silverlight like the plague. Let's be very clear here. Flash is not going away. They are repositioning themselves to handle more sophisticated endeavors in the future like full 3d games. Flash is auto-installed with the OS, the user base is not getting smaller. Silverlight almost never had a purpose to begin with, besides Microsoft just wanted a sandbox to play in itself. Windows Metro is the only potential obstacle in the future as it has been said to load SWF content externally, like an application, rather than embedded into the browser. -
Tablet PC Input Panel and Flash Player
Applies to Flash player 9, AS3 and Tablet PC 2005 or Vista
I have created an application in Flash part of which requires
a form to be filled in. This form consits of multiple TextInput and
TextArea components amongst others.
When used on a tablet then the icon for the Tablet Input
Panel (TIP) does not show automatically and instead the TIP has to
be launched from the taskbar
Is there a way for Flash Player to pick up this and launch
the TIP when required.
If not will it be resolved in future Flash Players? (mainly
aimed at Adobe employees)Sorry it's taken so long to get back. Problems logging in as the site doesn't recognise me (I'm currently in Thailand).
I have a Portege 3500 Tablet PC.
It works fine as a laptop PC but if I now try to use it as a notebook the Tablet PC Input Panel will not load.
The icon is there - but it always reports an error (and wants to tell Microsoft about it - ha!)
In other words I now cannot use the Tablet function at all.
The PC is 14 months old (ish) and is otherwise functioning normally (that's tempting fate isn't it).
Is this a recognised problem - whatever - is there a solution? I have no recovery disks here unfortunately. -
What is Apple's substtute for Adobe Flash Player on iPad?
What is Apple's substtute for Adobe Flash Player on iPad?
Until Adobe can develop a version of Flash that works for mobile devices that is stable and doesn't hog memory resources or ***** up battery life, there isn't much anyone can do about this!
Android devices claiming to run Flash are having these issues, too. Steve Jobs and Apple simply won't allow Adobe Flash to with their mobile hardware/software with the state of affairs with Flash, now. If Adobe has a breakthrough and can develop a version of Flash or some sort a content providing software that works and plays well with mobile devices and platforms, the situation may change. For the foreseeable future, Flash is going to be absent on current and future Apple mobile devices.
On another note, PPC Macs are obsolete technology that is, at least 6 years old. OS X 10.5 was the last Mac operating system to still support PPC Mac architecture. This OS is , at least, 3 years old. OS X 10.4 Tiger is, at least 5 years old.
You can't expect either Apple or Adobe,or any hardware/software manufacturer/developer, at this time, to keep supporting older technologies. Especially, anything 5 or 6 years old or more. It's just not cost effective or practical.
Technology marches on. There are many of us, probably, still using PPC Macs, including myself. We're all in the same boat.
At some point, we're going to have to play catch up to the latest and greatest to be able to stay current on the grid and to be current with new technologies, hardware, and software.
I do not think this is a rational reason to jump ship on a company who, arguably, makes the best technology hardware/software integrated devices and computers in the world. -
I have flash 5. I want to continue using it. (I cannot afford
to buy a new version)
I am used to using "tell target" and other obsolete scripting
tools.
If I make a website with flash 5 old school scripts, will the
Internet continue to play these old code?
Will the current, and future flash players support these old
scripts?Yes, new players include support for movies published under
older versions. The only problem is taking your old fla files and
publishing them with a newer version. That's when you have to
update your code. -
How to setup Data services to use existing zend application
The application I'm working on is going to have views created both in Flex and in PHP. Thus, we want to setup the Zend framework so that it can be used for the PHP part of the application and to display views in the browser. We want to setup the AMF gateway so that it's a service provided through a controller in Zend and with the actual service classes hidden from public view in the application folder, and not like the default now seems to assume that you create a folder in your public webroot where the endpoint and all service classes live.
So the structure we are after is
Zend_AMF endpoint at http://example.com/services/amf
Zend folder structure:
application/controllers/ServiceController.php // the controller that handles all incoming requests, so acts as the gateway.phpI assume
application/services/amf/ // contains the actual service classes, e.g. Users.php, Products.php
public/swf/ // will contain the actual .swf files for the Flex application
the /public/ folder is set to the webroot with /application/ outside the webroot as per the Zend framework recommendations.
I would like to use the Data service introspection to generate the Flex code for the services, however the introspection afaik requires the services to be in the /public/ folder or a subfolder there. So how can I make introspection work for a service that lives in /application/services/amf and is accessed through http://example.com/services/amf ?
Suggestions? links to tutorials?Yes, well hopefully this will be supported in the future. In the mean time, I've noticed that it's only actually when creating the service and the API for it that you need to have the class inside the web root. In order to configure the return types and input types you don't need to go through the standard gateway.php anymore. So, although not ideal, here's how I do it right now:
1. I have set up m zend framework as described in my first post, with my AMF service gateway being a Zend controller and not the gateway.php
2. I create the service class with the API I need inside the application/services/amf folder. If the service needs to connect to the database then I create a Zend Db Model using the zf command line tool (as per Zend framework practices) and then hook my service class to use that. Which basically means that my service classes are very slim and simple.
3. When I created the Flex project I created a dummy service using the sample php, which has set up Flash builder with the default gateway and so on
4. Once I've created my service class, I copy the file to the default location where Flash Builder wants to create my services. I then strip out any implementing code from the copied file, leaving only the public API and empty methods.
5. I then create a new service in Flash builder, point it to the stubb class in the default location and let the introspection discover the public api. This will of course mean that all input values and return values are generic objects.
6. After this is done I delete the stubb class. In the created AS service class I override the service endpoint so that it points to my real gateway controller within the zend framework.
7. After this is done I can configure the return types and input types using auto discovering. It will connect to the real gateway and ignore the default gateway and thus I can develop against the real endpoint and don't need to create my service classes within the public location of the Zend folder structure.
It's a bit of a workaround for sure, but since I don't create new services that often and I can have Flash builder update my return types etc. automatically this way, I figure it's worth the extra steps. Still, I would hope that in the future Flash builder will support having the introspection happen on a location outside the projects own web root. -
Why is AS1 documentation not a part of CS3 help
hello;
in my flash CS3 help, there is AS2 and AS3 documentation, but
no AS1 documentation;
I have come to the understanding that AS1 would continue to
be supported in future flash authoring environments;
any thoughts?

It isn't.

even
> want to fly?
I do get your analogy. Really, I do. What I don't get is why
you're
the one making it -- because based on what you've described,
it sounds like
you're the engineer in this analogy, not the soccer mom.
After reading
Colin Moock's article, I would think even the soccer moms
should find
encouraged, but regardless ... of course you don't have to
use AS3. ;)
If you don't, you're stuck with a different set of
complexities, so it
all comes down to what you're comfortable with. In AS1/AS2,
you have on()
and/or onClipEvent() for handling events. You also have the
dot notation
equivalents (e.g. myClip.onRelease = handlerFunction). But
wait, there's
more! You also have addListener(). How's that for consistent?
Ah, but
then you also have addEventListener() -- just depends on
which datatype
you're handling the event for. If you're a longtime Flash
user -- and you
are -- then each new event handling model was something you
took in stride.
If you're new to the scene, it could seem like a completely
arbitrary mess.
In AS3 (outside of a drop-in-the-bucket NetStream exception),
you have
addEventListener(). Easy to learn and easy to remember,
because it's very
nearly consistent.
In AS1/AS2, if you want to instantiate a new MovieClip
instance, you
have to refer to an existing MovieClip instance and invoke
the
createEmptyMovieClip() method, give the new instance an
instance name and
assign it a depth. In AS3, you just invoke the constructor:
new
MovieClip(), then add the new instance to the display list.
It comes down to personal taste, I guess. To me, the newer
models are
easier to use ... once you learn them (of course). There are
trade-offs in
either camp, obviously.
> if someone could tell me some concrete thing
> that AS3 can do that AS1 cannot
> I would appreciate it;
I'm sure there are more, but here's a concrete thing off the
top of my
head: AS3 allows you to reparent movie clips (and other
visual display
objects) simply by removing them from the display list of one
object and
adding them to another. A practical example that comes to
mind is a jigsaw
puzzle, in which snapped-together pieces stay together,
making it easy to
move snapped-together pieces as a single group. Each
individual piece could
initially belong to the display list of the main timeline,
but could be
moved to the collective display list of a group of
snapped-together pieces.
Not that a single example should sway you. The example I
made might
just be meaningless to you, because you might not be
interested in
Flash-based jigsaws (or you might be interested, but would
rather move
snapped-together pieces by way of some algorithm that tracks
the position
and movement of each individual piece -- again, you're
trading one set of
complexities for another; on the main, I personally find the
complexities of
AS3 worth the learning curve).
> I am working on my first AS3 project - shopping cart -
but
> I will not use external packages );
And you shouldn't, unless you feel that external classes
would help you.
For me, I like the idea of utility classes (at least). In
order to create a
dynamic text field in AS1 -- let's say a non-selectable text
field, that
resizes as needed to fit the text, with a sans serif font --
you might do
something like this:
var tf = this.createTextField("myTextField", 0, 0, 0, 0, 0);
tf.selectable = false;
tf.autoSize = "left";
var fmt = new TextFormat();
fmt.font = "_sans";
tf.setNewTextFormat(fmt);
tf.text = "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet";
(Note, this assumes Flash Player 8 or higher, because prior
to Flash Player
8, the MovieClip.createTextField() method returns Void.)
So ... to me, that's a lot to type. Again (this is my mantra
in this
post) ... one set of complexities for another. To reuse this
code, I could
certainly throw it into a function. Let's say something like
this:
function makeTextField(target, text) {
var tf = target.createTextField("myTextField" +
target.getNextHighestDepth(),
target.getNextHighestDepth(), 0, 0, 0, 0);
tf.selectable = false;
tf.autoSize = "left";
var fmt = new TextFormat();
fmt.font = "_sans";
tf.setNewTextFormat(fmt);
tf.text = text;
makeTextField(this, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet");
That's a tried and true procedural way to make your work
easier. I
think, so far, you would agree ... and I think, for you,
there's nothing new
so far. Notice that to keep instance names unique, I used
MovieClip.getNextHighestDepth() to append a number to the
instance name, and
also to ensure that a safe depth is met. A real
implementation would
probably include x,y positioning parameters, to make sure
text doesn't
overlap ... but you get the idea.
I could use AS2 to create a utility class called, say,
SimpleText.
Here's a stab at it. Quick and dirty AS2 external class file.
// Class file
class net.quip.utils.text.SimpleText {
public function SimpleText() {};
public static function makeTextField (target:MovieClip,
text:String):Void {
var tf:TextField = target.createTextField("myTextField" +
target.getNextHighestDepth(), target.getNextHighestDepth(),
0, 0, 0, 0);
tf.selectable = false;
tf.autoSize = "left";
var fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
fmt.font = "_sans";
tf.setNewTextFormat(fmt);
tf.text = text;
More complex? In a sense, sure. Not by a whole lot, if you
really look
at it. The AS1 function version was a teensy bit bigger than
the
non-function version. The AS2 class version is a teensy bit
bigger than the
AS1 function version. But once it's done, it's done. If I
ever want this
functionality, I just import my class and use its (in this
case) static
method:
import net.quip.utils.text.SimpleText;
SimpleText.makeTextField(this, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet");
In my experience, that saves me time and effort. And this
same sort of
approach applies to non-static methods as well. It's just a
way to organize
your code. Many people find it more efficient. If you don't,
then you
don't. ;) It's as simple as that.

How do I get rid of an adobe textbox that shows up every time I open Firefox?
Adobe installed an update, I believe to my flashplayer and when it was finished, every time I opened my google page(Mozilla) I got a big box that said Adobe installer. There was no way to remove it so I went to add/delete programs and found the installer program and deleted it. Now instead of the Adobe installer box, I get a text box that says that the following path cannot be found. C\Documents+and+Settings\user\Application+Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profil es\3oq0kps1default\extensions\{E2883E8F-472F-4fb0-9522-AC9BF3716A7}\ch rome\content\getPlusPlus_Adobe_reg.exe
This happens every time I open Mozilla. I get rid of the box by either hitting "OK" or the X at the upper right hand corner of the text box. Then the box goes away and Google opens.
I want to get ride of this box. How do I do it.
Thank you.For future Flash Player updates, to get around that download manager, download the installer directly from http://http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Vista shows Acrobat Reader 7 needs to be updated
When I go to Vista problem reports it shows that Acrobat Reader 7 needs to be updated as it is incompatible with Vista.
When I go to Uninstall Programs, it shows that I have Adobe Reader 9 installed. But at the top of the list there is an item that is called Acrobat.com. I'm wondering what that is? It appears to be a web site so why is it in my programs list?
Can anyone explain this to me?
ThanksThe Windows Installer Cleanup Utility will not remove your remaining Flash 9 OCX file; it won't probably even see Flash 9 anymore, as it had been (partially) removed.
There seems to be some kind of ownership problem with that file, that prevents you from deleting it. There are various tools on the Internet that allow you to assume ownership over a file, also some force-delete tools. Check Google.
The best way (for future Flash Player major updates, e.g. from 10 to 11) is to uninstall the thing, then do a new install instead of an upgrade. That should get rid of all associated files.
When I started using Secunia I found Flash 6, 7, 8 remains, and also very old Shockwave stuff. I use the uninstall method now for these players. -
Question on flipping multiple frames - maybe a hard one guys!
Ok here is my problemo...
I've created a 28 frame, gun firing flash. It is has massive
amounts of details from everything included the gun blast to
ejecting spent bullet casings, etc. (took me 6 hours to draw and
make the graphical Tweens on this). Ok so I created this so I could
use it in many future flashed I've made.
BUT now, I want to use it in a flash, but I have two unseen
problems:
1. I made the gun (and all it's Tweens and effects) facing
RIGHT, and I need it facing LEFT now
2. When I drew it, I went for a larger gun taking up half of
the screen, now I need it smaller.
So first off: I tried flipping it in my original fla. where
all the Tweens are broken out into 8 layers, but I did not have any
luck with that and exported the thing, and imported it to the stage
in a new blank doc. (everything I've done down below, I've done, in
the original fla.) So now I have 28 frames, one layer, all Tweens
and movement built into each frame (vs. my 8 layers per 1 sec on my
time-line.)
Then, I highlighting all the frames and tried flipping them,
which did not work. I've tried to "Transform" -'Horizontal Flip" it
for each frame, but because of all my objects in my frames, it
moves my gun all over the screen from frame to frame (such as a
bullet 4cm away from the gun will move the entire gun back 4cm from
the last frame where the bullet did not come out). So that did not
work. I then tried editing and flipping all of my symbols. That
only sorta worked, and did not help me for symbols that had allot
of Tweens in them. I've tried everything, clicking almost all the
options, but still I have no clue how (or even if) i can flip the
entire flash - 90 degrees horizontally? The only option I know will
work is manually editing and redoing every bullet trajectory, pin
movement, recoil, etc. then lining them all equally up which will
take me 2-3 hours...and that is before resizing it.
I assumed there was a way that I could just flip the ENTIRE,
all 28 frames in the time line, 90 degrees horizontally ? And
resizing the entire 28 frames? Does someone know how to do this and
If so can you help me,
??? And tell me how to do this
Muchas Gracious! God~LifeSelect the entire range of frames and layers by dragging
across them - highlighting them all in
black. Right click over them and select COPY FRAMES.
Open Library panel (Ctrl + L).
From upper right drop down menu select New Symbol (make it a
graphic symbol).
When you click OK you will be in Edit mode for this new
symbol.
Click on frame 1 of this new symbol - right click over it and
select PASTE FRAMES.
Your gun animation, all layers and frames and keyframes will
be pasted in.
Go back to main timeline.
Create a new layer and delete all of your original layers
with gun animation on it.
Drag your new Graphic symbol from library to the stage (with
your new layer selected).
Now you have created a NESTED animation. You can now
scale,flip rotate, tint, alpha this symbol
anyway you want - re-use it multiple times...etc....
