Future IDE- Jdeveloper or Workshop

Hi,
I had a discussion with some people who are using Weblogic Workshop as IDE. I want to be clear about the future of Jdeveloper.
Whether Oracle will take Jdeveloper as development tool or Workshop.
Any one having info,What is future plan of Oracle. Please do guide me.

I thought we cleared this out a year ago.

  • Future of JDeveloper

    With recent announcement of Oracle's increased involvement in the Eclipse community I have a concern with respect to the future of JDeveloper. Oracle has said that JDeveloper will continue to be their strategic IDE which is heartening. I am just wondering if this decision signals a slow beginning of the retirement of JDeveloper

    I thought we made it clear in every communication we did about the Eclipse interaction - JDeveloper is out strategic IDE.
    We are hard at work on release 11. The number of Oracle employees who are developing features for JDeveloper is way bigger then the number who develop for eclipse.
    And the number of people at Oracle who are about to start using JDeveloper 11 to build the Fusion Applications is even bigger.
    JDeveloper is here to stay.

  • IDE: JDeveloper or WebSphere

    I have an upcoming project that I know for sure will include IBM's WebSphere Application Server and Oracle's 10g RDBMS.
    I know that the default choice for IDE is the WebSphere product when using the WSAS. I also know that JDeveloper projects are supposed to be able to deploy to any J2EE compliant application server.
    What I need to know is if I decide to use JDeveloper on this project, what functionality will I not have? For instance, I would guess that if you were using Oracle end-to-end then you would have full debugging functionality all the way to the backend. But will I be able to do the same thing with a JDeveloper/WSAS/Oracle 10g combination?

  • SOMEONE please explain why BEA has 2 workshop IDE's ?!?!?!?!?

    Hello,
    Could some PLEASE explain to me why BEA has a workshop 9.2 and a Workshop Studio (NitroX) ?!?!?
    Are they going to merge Studio/NitroX into workshop 9.2.x ??
    Would I be wrong in thinking that Workshop 9.2 (with it's NETUI) is just waiting to die, and that eventually studio will become the core IDE product?
    Thanks,
    K

    Not to start a flame war, but it makes sense to me.
    Studio is built on Eclipse, Workshop 9.2 is built on Eclipse. NitroX was
    part of an acquisition and like many acquisitions I'm sure it will take
    time to integrate it fully into the BEA product suite. Hopefully in the
    future both Studio and Workshop 9.2 will work together nicely.
    I don't see why one would survive and the other wouldn't. Thats what I'm
    hoping for, but until one of us has info into the exec's future
    strategy, we can only guess what is in store.
    I don't see a huge difference between Studio and Workshop, only tooling
    differences available in both. I use Studio for my webapp development
    (love AppXray) and Workshop for all my other development.
    ekwiatek, in one of your earlier posts you mention NETUI support
    ("""Workshop 9.2 (with it's NETUI) is just waiting to die"""), what
    gives you that indication?
    ekwiatek, can you comment on why this (2 IDEs) is an issue?

    ekwiatek wrote:
    BEA's action's are very confusing.....BEA buys an IDE framework (Nitrox) that is very different from one they are in the process of newly deploying, they hype BOTH (actually "BEA developer days" just hyped Studio which is even more confusing), and then they want us to jump on one of the two IDE bandwagons (studio vs workshop), but they aren't going to tell us which framework is going to survive?!?!? BUT, oh, hey, they will give us a migration tool to ease the transition :) OR I can just grab elcipse and
    code by hand , targeting jboss. Do I really save any time using BEA's IDE if I have to port/re-develop my applications every few months while they secretly develop a marketing strategy for their IDE?!?!?
    But on the postive side, we saw WLI 9.2 workshop, and it seemed good.

    Re: Errors migrating from jDev 10.1.3.4 to jDev 11.2.1
    I did try to migrate to 11.1.1.4.0 and 11.1.1.5.0 - still no luck. All offline databases are present and correctly "connect" to corresponding EJBs in 10.1.3.5.
    Neither I cant find migration matrix/docs that were referred in similar threads. If this is not resolved, we can not chose Jdeveloper as a future IDE at the company...
    Thank you!
    V.

    Hi,
    the web appears to be full of such error messages and some point to the use of named native query vs. named query. So here are some options for you to try
    1. Create a test project in 11g using the same tables and compare the generated code with yours to see a difference
    2. Get a 10.1.3.5 project that you haven't migrated and pass it on to customer support for them to have a try on this.
    +"If this is not resolved, we can not chose Jdeveloper as a future IDE at the company..."+ Actually it doesn't appear to be a JDeveloper issue but a TopLink / EclipseLink issue. Abandoning JDeveloper is like shooting the messenger. Just so you know.

  • Choose a IDE

    Should I choose JDeveloper or Workshop for weblogic application server and Java EE 5?
    Thanks

    If you wish to use an Oracle Eclipse IDE to build JEE5 applications, and assuming you have flexibility to choose the latest WLS releases, Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (OEPE) is the recommended option. It supports the latest releases of WLS - WLS 10gR3 (aka WLS 10.3) and WLS 11gR1 (aka WLS 10.3.1) and is the going forward Eclipse-based development tool for JEE applications on WebLogic Server. WebLogic Workshop is not supported on WLS 10.3.1 for development of new applications and is only supported for migration purposes from prior WLS versions.
    JDeveloper supports these WLS releases as well as David mentions, and supports development of applications on the full Fusion Middleware Stack.

  • How to create a new Oracle OSB project automaticaly with script without IDE

    Hello,
    I want to create automatically an "Oracle service bus project" and an "Oracle service bus configuration project" with scripts (ANT or Maven or ...) without using IDE, without using workshop or Eclipse. I want to create automatically (ANT or Maven) just a skeleton of an OSB project witch i can use after in workshop.
    I want to create 1 "Oracle service bus configuration project" with many "Oracle service bus project" automatically (ANT or Maven or scripts) witch i can use after in workshop. How to create a new Oracle OSB project automaticaly with script without IDE ? How can i do this ?
    I'm using Oracle service bus 10.3.1
    Thank you for your help.

    Thank you for your response,
    I do not want to just create the services (proxy services and business services) but I want to create a template for 40 OSB project with the same scripts ANT/Maven.
    Template="Oracle service bus configuration project" + "Oracle service bus project" + services of 40 OSB projects
    The goal is that I have more than 40 projects to create and just the name of the projects that changes (when I say the name of the project ie the name of the OSB project, the name of proxy services and the name of business services ).
    So I want to give my script (ANT/Maven) the name of 40 OSB project and the script must generate the skeleton of the 40 projects at once time and after generation of skeleton of the 40 project, I will import them in the workshop to add manually mapping and routing and other things that differs from one project to another.
    So i want to generate automatically a skeletons of 40 OSB projects using a script (ANT / Maven) and I give to the script juste the names of the 40 projects.
    I want to create a "Oracle service bus configuration project" and "Oracle service bus project" automatically of 40 OSB projects (ANT or Maven or scripts) witch i can use after in workshop.
    I want to create one 'template' of all 40 projects in the same time, with the same directory structure (Transforlation, Business services, proxy services, WSDL .....) and all 40 project have the same transport, just the names of projects and services witch changes and i can give to the script all names of projects and services and i can give also all WSDL.

  • XML Database Development with JDeveloper?

    Hello, folks:
    I am trying to create XML database through JDeveloper.
    Database: Oracle 10g
    IDE: JDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0
    JDBC Driver: Oracle ojdbc6.jar
    I connect successfully to the database through JDeveloper. There I see many folders listed, e.g. Tables, Views, Indexes, XML Schemas, XML DB Repository, and others. My problem is that when I try to save a large schema file (that I already validated on my local machine) that is roughly more than 300 lines, then JDeveloper is unable to save the file. It saves only very small files that are about 100 lines or less. The error message simply is: "Unable to save XML Schema blah.filename@local (Error saving XML Schema).
    I tried to do it in Oracle SQL Developer too, but got the same error. Can someone please help me understand this problem and how to fix it? Do I need to specify some settings in JDeveloper or SQL Developer? Thanks a lot in advance.

  • "Software necromancy" on AUR - ideas/feedback appreciated

    Hi
    Background:
    Basically to just see if it would work, I ported/updated two old abandoned packages on AUR that dependend on Qt2 to be built with Qt4.
    Why?
    I think it is better to use a mantained library than an old unmantained and possibly insecure and I was curious to see if it could work.
    Why not Qt5?
    Simply because Qt4 comes with the Qt3Support module, which is needed (otherwise much more invasive source code changes are needed). Basically, the Qt2-to-Qt3 porting information was "try to compile it and fix errors reported by the compiler" and the awesome qt3toqt4 application automated most source code changes, so I basically just tried to convert directly from the Qt2 programs. As far as I have understood, Qt4 to Qt5 should also be an easy porting, so perhaps the Qt3Support module could be ported to Qt5+ as an independent legacy support module in the future.
    With no real knowledge in Qt or C++, I could in about 2 hours (including googling and reading documentation) get both applications to compile with Qt4. Now there are no more packages depending on Qt2 or less in AUR.
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/blackpenguin/
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xbic/
    There are some issues still with both packages, which I believe might be easy for people with real programming experience to spot/solve:
    blackpenguin:
    Program compiles and executes, but:
    - Clicking "new game" or "load game" gives the following error:
    QPainter::begin: Widget painting can only begin as a result of a paintEvent
    - Clicking "help" gives the following error:
    QWidget::setMinimumSize: (PushButton_1/QPushButton) Negative sizes (-1,-1) are not possible
    F-keys, the "?" button etc seem to work as they should.
    xbic:
    Program compiles and executes, but:
    when game should be loaded, the binary "fight" complains about:
    fight: cannot connect to X server :
    I tried to explicitly link against libX11 but this did not do any good.
    There were also more manual interventions in this source (explicitly set (const char*) and (char*) on some arguments where newer Qt got their own types)
    There is a potentially dangerous commenting out in menu.cc too, where I could not come up with a good alternative to the original killTimers().
    The Qt QTimerEvent::killTimer(int) requires a timer ID to be given as an argument and I could not figure out a way to retrieve that information across functions (saving a variable name from the return value from startTimer() will probably not work). and the QBasicTimer start() and stop() do not seem to want to work, since the timer is started and stopped in two different functions (menu::start_battle() and menu::timerEvent() ). This probably just shows how little I know about C++ and looking at it with "C glasses".
    Future ideas/prospects
    * look if there are interesting Qt3 packages in AUR that could be updated
    * investigate the porting of the Qt3Support module to Qt5
    Feedback welcome

    Indeed! it does however seem like GTK 1 --> 2 -->3 migration is far more difficult than migration of Qt programs (blackpenguin was built in 1999) and I do not know how good the documentation is.
    I was surprised to see how many applications on AUR depended on GTK1!
    I think I will try to pick the "low haning" Qt3 stuff first before learning GTK, but I will remove the [Qt] in the thread title so that this thread is about general "software necromancy"
    EDIT:
    Although "controversial", these things might be a viable option to port from GTK to Qt

  • Generate SAR using  ant  or using Jdeveloper

    Hi!
    I 'm generating the sar file using the ant-sca-package.xml file but when I compare it with the jar generated with the "deploy to sar" option from the IDE Jdeveloper, they are different. The jar file generated with Jdeveloper excludes some folders and also modified the composite.xml file :S
    Why is that? which is the correct way to generate a Sar file?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi NH,
    You seems to be doing the right way... AFAIK ant-sca-package.xml is the way to go...

  • JDeveloper and Oracle XML Database Development

    I tried to do it in Oracle SQL Developer, but got the same error. Can someone please help me understand this problem and how to fix it? Do I need to specify some settings in JDeveloper or SQL Developer? Thanks a lot in advance.
    Asif

    The XML database engine used in JDev is in fact from SQL Developer. In other words the SQL Developer code base is used by JDev though typically it is an older version than the latest SQL Developer. As such best post this question to the SQL Developer forum and ensure to state which standalone SQL Developer version you're using.

  • How can I Add new LookAndFel to IDE

    How can I Add new LookAndFel to IDE "JDeveloper 10g" ?
    (to the combo box in the Tool->Preferences->LookAndFeel ).

    Here is how you can add new L&Fs to the drop down list. (Instructions are for Linux , as I use Linux, but they will work for Windows too)
    Add the L&F jar to <path to JRE>/lib/ext (or <path to JDK>/jre/lib/ext). Then create swing.properties (if it does not already exist) in <path to JRE>/lib (or in jdk...) with following lines:
    swing.installedlafs = motif,windows,metal,mac,plastic
    swing.installedlaf.motif.name = CDE/Motif
    swing.installedlaf.motif.class = com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.windows.name = Windows
    swing.installedlaf.windows.class = com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.metal.name = Metal
    swing.installedlaf.metal.class = javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.mac.name = Mac
    swing.installedlaf.mac.class = com.sun.java.swing.plaf.mac.MacLookAndFeel
    swing.installedlaf.plastic.name = Plastic
    swing.installedlaf.plastic.class = com.jgoodies.plaf.plastic.PlasticLookAndFeel
    swing.defaultlaf=com.jgoodies.plaf.plastic.PlasticLookAndFeel
    Note that I retained default example L&Fs that normally come with the JDK/JRE (depending on the platfom) and added PlasticLookAndFeel as additional PLAF (Pluggable Look And Feel).
    Now it should be possible to choose Plastic L&F in not only JDeveloper but also other Swing apps that you want to use.
    Please let me know if this works and also if you have any questions.

  • Is there any template (decoration) feature in Jdeveloper and ADF faces ?

    Hi
    Thank you for reading my post
    is there any template / decoration facilities in Jdeveloper for ADF faces ?
    for example there are some part of my web pages which are allways the same and i need to show them where ever the user is in my we application (for example a left panel contain latest emails) how i can have this feature ?
    Thanks

    HI!
    Facelets works very well with Oracle ADF faces ,but to get a partial support from IDE(JDeveloper) , you have to build pages in jspx format, and not in xhtml format.
    We are using facelets with absolutely no problem; the only hitch is that we have add all our ADF Faces components to a jpx page and then embed Facelets tags to it,for JDdeveloper does not add components to /in between Facelets tags, which is an improvement to be made, and Mr.Frank has informed me that this(Facelets support in JDeveloper) is filed as an enhancement request for the next version of JDeveloper.
    Anyway, I can assure you that you can work with Facelets and ADF faces with absolutely no problems,at all;the only thing is you need to struggle some time getting the Facelets configured for ADF Faces!
    Actually, I planned to write an article on accomlishing this(integrating facelets and ADF Faces),but presently I'm preoccupied with some other imoprtant task, so I'm afraid may not be able to provide the article inthis week.
    Regrads,

  • Jdeveloper vs Developer Forms?

    My boss recently asked me what's the difference between modules written in Developer Forms for the web & modules written in JDeveloper from a development point of view. I'm a Forms developer and have only tinkered with JDeveloper can anyone tell me the advantages/disadvantages between the two development tools?

    I think there are a few factors to consider:
    1. What sort of interface do your applications need? Forms allows you to easily create rich responsive interfaces but (currently) requires download of JInitiator. JDeveloper can be used to create apps with this sort of interface but I doubt that anyone would do that. If you want or need a lighter HTML-based interface, JDeveloper is very much geared towards this and Forms won't give you this at all. Aside from using JDeveloper to write applications/systems it can of course be used for a lot more than this.
    2. What skills do your developers have? If you have experienced, highly-skilled J2EE developers JDeveloper might be the one to go for. If, however, your developers are happier with Forms that would probably be the tool of choice. Your Forms developers might be keen, however, to get into java.
    3. Tool Stability. Forms is a mature, fairly stable product with (still) a wide user base, and it probably isn't likely to change very much as a product in the future. JDeveloper (and java frameworks, etc.) changes significantly with every release and is relatively flaky compared to Forms. If you're looking beyond the next 5 years, JDeveloper may well be around longer than Forms, but it may well be very different by then to the current version. The 'next version' of JDeveloper always looks very promising but you'll be under pressure to move to the latest version of database and app server to be able to use the latest JDev. With Forms you're usually safe to lag behind a bit, which can have advantages.
    4. Speed of Development. Developers can get up to speed in Forms a lot quicker than in J2EE and JDeveloper and once up to speed I think Forms is still a quicker tool for development.
    Hope this helps.
    Mike.
