Future iPad Owner Questions!

Hey everyone! I had a few questions about the iPad.
Do you personally think it would be worth at least $500? I really want it, but I don't know if I should go ahead and get it, or buy a laptop for around the same price.
Secondly, how do iPhone apps appear on the iPad?
Thanks, guys!

Hi Nick,
If you do a search, upper right corner, you will get a lot of threads similar to yours. A number of people come on here and ask the other users their views on the iPad.
First, is it worth $500 entry fee? To some people that might be questionable, but it depends a lot on how you will use it. As a book reader? Kinda pricey. As a device that does books very well, surfs the net, does email, gets the Weather Channel, can do thousands of apps - well worth the price.
Second, now that the MacBook Air is out, for a couple hundred more, you really have to make a choice based on your planned usage. The MBA is a terrific machine for not much more size and weight. Plus you can put all kinds of software on it. So, iPad vs MBA - go to an Apple Retail store and spend time with both. That is a very personal decision only you can make.
Third, iPhone apps on the iPad? The iPad gives you the option of native size or 2x size, plus many of the apps are available in iPad native mode also. There are so many apps, you are sure to find something that fits your needs.
Hope this helps...but go to an Apple store and spend time with it.

I'm a new iPad owner. When I've rented a movie, I can't work out how to play it back without a wifi connection. I get a message which says you cannot connect to the iTunes store without an Internet connection. This happens whether I've rented or purchased a film. We're going on a flight soon and would ideally like to watch one on the plane. Can someone please provide some step by step instructions. Thanks.

Rented or purchased video are watched through the videos app after you have downloaded them, iTunes on iOS devices is for buying media only.

  • Daily New Releases No Longer Available to Original iPad Owners

It seems that daily new releases are no longer available to original iPad owners (last new releases I received were 10/20).  I know they're out there because I just downloaded two BRAND NEW apps today!  I found them by searching for the creators of the apps that I usually buy.  If I hadn't searched I would not have known they existed.  Are the original iPad users being screwed once again by Apple?!!!!!

    Hi reginagama,
Another option is to reset the Home screen. If you have moved a lot of your icons around, you may not want to do this because it puts everything back to the way it originally was (your purchased apps would line up in the order in which they were purchased, I'm guessing....)
However, if you don't have an issue with the icons moving back to the original positions then Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,

  • Will selecting 'Delete Account' in iCloud setting on iPad delete the AppleID account, or just delete it from the iPad in question?

Will selecting ‘Delete Account’ in iCloud settings on iPad delete the AppleID account entirely, or will it just delete the AppleID from the iPad in question?
I am trying to resolve a problem where someone tried to set up a second iPad on the same Apple ID account. I have partially solved the problem by creating a new Apple ID for the second iPad, but when I went to change the iCloud setting, my only option to change it was the 'Delete Account' button. I just want to make sure that I'm not going to accidentally delete the old Apple ID account because the fist iPad still needs to sync to that ID.

    From the iPhone only.

Do you think apple should include a sd card slot in future Ipads?

For what purpose? I don't miss having one. The Camera Connection Kit is available for importing photos from SD cards. I like the clean look of not having loads of openings in the case.

I am a new iPad owner.  How do I move my email contacts from my gmail on my PC to the iPad??

You can't save a PDF directly to the photos app, but if you can open the PDF in the mail app and get the entire PDF to appear on the screen, take a screenshot of it and that will be saved to the photos app camera roll.
Hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time briefly until you see the white flash on the screen and hear the shutter sound. That's how to take a screenshot.
You should probably tap and hold down on the PDF in the mail app and select it to open in iBooks or another PDF app that you might have on the iPad.

  • Question from new iPad owner

Just a quick question - just bought a white iPad 2 wifi, I notice on the corners there is a small hair thin opening between the screen and the aluminum. Am I being paranoid / OCD or is this normal?  Thanks

I see a similar small difference between the formed aluminum and glass on mine. I've worked it pretty hard for a couple of months with no ill effects and no apparent change in the gap.
the iPad isn't waterproof anyway, so I'm confident that there is no issue with mine. I should also add mine is one of 10 I set up for my company and all were quite similar.
    Hope that helps.

  • Future MBP owner with questions...please help!

After being born and raised on Windows, I've decided to make the switch to Mac and I will be getting a MBP within the next month. Despite all the problems (heat, whine, etc.) that I've been reading about, I'll take my chances. I'm looking to get a 2.16 ghz model, with 2 gigs of RAM and the 100-gig 7200 rpm drive. I have a few questions:
    1. I need to get Office 2004 for Mac, and I'm just wondering if there is a difference between the "Standard" version and the "Student/Teacher" version. I don't see any differences, but I just want to make sure. It's the same software, right? Just different prices?
    2. I plan on getting Pro Care at my Apple store as soon as I get the MBP (I'll also get the Apple Protection Plan as well). Is Pro Care worth the $100 per year? It appears that if I become a member, I get priority status on my repairs, priority seating at workshops, etc. It seems like a good deal, but I'm wondering what other advantages there are.
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give me.

There are two major differences the first being the price the second is it is not available to buy any future "Upgrade" versions. You would be required to purchase either a full version or another Student/Teacher version (which is typically the same price as the upgrades)

Personally I would just go for AppleCare unless you frequent the genius bar and have to have repairs back ASAP those seem to be the only advantages IMHO

  • Questions from a future macbook owner

i would like to get a mac. either the normal macbook or the macbook pro, but i wanted to know if buying the pro is worth the xtra money. based on GHz, hard drive and memory/RAM, is it worth it?
if it is, which is probably the best deal? the $1,999, $2,499 or $2,799 one? is 2.4 GHz a huge difference from 2.5 GHz? is a 200GB memory a huge difference from 250GB?
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=br owse&node=home/shopmac/family/macbookpro
also, is the pro easier to upgrade than the normal macbook

That's really a question of preference. I think you should visit a store http://www.apple.com/buy/ and feel for yourself which one can do tasks you need better.
    Advantage MacBook Pro:
    1. The MacBook you have no option for glossy versus matte display, whereas the MacBook Pro you do.
    2. The MacBook has no Express/34 slot. With that you can add EVDO, and SATA/II cards.
    3. The MacBook has no backlighting of keys.
    4. The MacBook has a smaller screen.
    5. The MacBook Pro has more peripheral ports.
    6. The MacBook Pro has a faster processor and a faster dedicated graphics processor.
    Advantage MacBook
    1. Its internal hard drive has instructions from Apple on how to replace.
    2. It is slightly lighter weight.

  • Questions about Mac. (Future Mac owner)

    Hi,
I have had my HP Vista running laptop for 2 months and am very upset with it. The DVD drive only works when it wants to and it is very slow starting up running a 1.8 ghz AMD Turion X2 process. I have used only 1/4 of the harddrive too!!! 1GB ram is installed in the computer. I do have a few questions to ask about the Mac.
    1. I have ISP Comcast and using a Motorola Surfboard modem and a Linksys WRT54G V8 Wireless router to connect to the internet on my PC. If I have it connected wirelessly on my PC, would I be able to connect to the internet wireless easily on the Mac using the same network and same 128-bit encryption? Would I have to reinstall the Linksys or Comcast software? Can you explain how I would connect to the internet wirelessly so I will know if I get a Mac?
    2. If I buy the Mac on an online retailer such as Amazon.com, would I still be able to receive support from an Apple genius bar?
    3. Can I get Limewire on the Mac and drag it on to iTunes? If Limewire can be used on the Mac, where can I download it?
    4. Can I get Windows Live Messenger on the Mac and use my current email and password? Would all of my contacts stay?
    5. Are there any other softwares besides for Microsoft Word to type up basic documents or reports for school?
    6. If I have my printer currently installed on my PC, can I easily reinstall it on the Mac?
Thanks very much for the help!

    Hi Nick
    1. All MacBooks come with built-in wireless networking, so all you'd have to do is click on the Airport icon which will appear in your menubar, choose your wireless network's name, and then type in the password. You won't need to reinstall any software, and both PC and Mac will be able to surf wirelessly at the same time. Make sure that your router is set to distribute IP addresses (using DHCP) - if, for example, your router's local IP address is 192.168.1.1, and your PC is currently at 192.168.1.2, then your Mac should have no problem connecting and getting an IP address. If you currently pass your public IP onto your PC, then you would need to reconfigure this at your router.
    2. Yes, you can always get free Apple Genius help, and your Apple warranty is for one year (90 days of phone support) wherever you buy it. You also have the option of buying AppleCare within the first year, for two extra years of coverage.
    3. Limewire is available for the Mac, from its website.
    4. MSN Messenger is available for the Mac (download here). A lot of Mac users prefer Adium, which can access all major chat networks, including MSN, and retrieve your contacts automatically.
    5. You can try NeoOffice, which is free and Office-compatible. Apple's iWork includes Pages, which is a fully-featured word processor. Microsoft Office 2004 Student and Teacher edition is only $149 - also, Apple and/or Microsoft occasionally have deals on buying a Mac with Office, so check their websites.
    6. Most printers have Mac drivers, check your printer's website. If you can't find it, post back with the model number, and we'll try to help you out.
    Good luck!

  • New iPad Owner with Question About OS Upgrade

I just purchased a new iPad and I am under the impression that I'll be able to upgrade to OS4 when it's released for the iPad this fall. If I take the 3.2.1 upgrade that just came out, will that eliminate my ability to upgrade to OS4 for free when it's released?

What has been added/fixed from the original version 3.2?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1060
Does anyone know if it's worth upgrading?
It was for me on my 3G iPad, where the update did indeed improve the connectivity of the WiFi. Your results may vary. If your iPad isn't having any issues, there is probably no pressing need to upgrade.
I'm hearing some people are having trouble upgrading.
No matter what device, it's always the case that some people have problems with an upgrade. For the iPad, though, the vast majority have had no problems. I upgraded both of my iPads with no issues whatsoever.
    Regards.

  • IPad 3G questions

    Hi there,
Just had a question about the 3G model and travel, I couldn't really find a way to email Apple about it so I'm asking here. Can someone provide me a way to contact them in the future? The "contact us" button didn't really have any information.
I plan on buying the Wifi+3G version (hopefully once some sort of fix for the rampant Wifi issues are available) And I live in Canada.
    1) Is is true that the iPad will come unlocked? How do you know? Is there a link that can prove it?
    2) I plan to somewhat frequent the USA throughout the year and was wondering if I can just buy a ATT Sim card and use that for 3G while in the USA? Can you just buy a new Micro Sim from them for $10? $20?
    3) Can i use my Canadian credit card to buy a $15 month package for the ATT USA 3G or does it have to be a USA credit card?
    Thanks all

    1) Not sure if it's going to come unlocked. It will be contract free at least in the US. But that doesn't mean it will be unlocked.
    2) Apple sales rep mentioned that iPad 3G will come with micro SIM built in. So you won't have to get one from AT&T. Just sign up for service from within the iPad.
