Future Netweaver Mobile and SyBase Unwired Plataform

Hi everyone.
What future Netweaver Mobile after purchase of SyBase Unwired for SAP?
The SAP wants invest at the SUP and to stop plataform Netweaver Mobile?
I'm searching news.
Thank's.

Hi,
SAP will focus on enabling the entire spectrum of enterprise mobility (lightweight, heavyweight, online, offline, etc) with a single platform - and that will be SAP/Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP). However, the enhanced SUP will include components based on existing technologies like DOE (part of NW Mobile) for specific use-cases (mission critical applications).
You can expect more information around this during SAPPHIRE.

  • Difference between SAP Netweaver PI and SAP Netweaver Mobile and SAP DOE

    HI,
I am learning Sybase Unwired Platform  and SAP PI 7.1.  I was going through SUP and SAP configuration documentation. I am really confused at one point. Does this SAP Netweaver PI 7.1 and SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1 are same?. What is these DOE connector? is these DOE and SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1are same? .
I have gone through various documents. but still i am very much confused. I am very much new to this platforms.
Can any one please help me in above topics.

Yes latest version is Netweaver mobile 7.1. and in one of the documentation of Netweaver 7.3 it is said that,
to download the non-ABAP software that is relevant for SAP NetWeaver Mobile 7.3.
http://service.sap.com/swdc -->  Downloads --> Support Packages and Patches --> Support Packages and Patched u2014 Entry by Application Group --> SAP NetWeaver and complementary products --> SAP NETWEAVER MOBILE --> SAP NETWEAVER MOBILE 7.3 --> Entry by Component --> Mobile Client --> NW MOBILE CLIENT SETUP 7.3 .
Actually my problem is, I am unable to get DOE Setup.exe file. I am able to download only .SAR file. If i configure SUP with SAP Netweaver mobile 7.1. i need to install DOE seperatly.
In one of the forum, it is said that
if we want to use CRM mobile, we need the following landscape to deploy it (for example):
1.) ECC Backend (your CRM Backend, off course you need this)
2.) Netweaver Mobile 7.3 (This is the DOE part, including ESDMA)
    3.) Sybase SUP
Well, you need to connect SUP and NWM7.1 together. To do this you need to install a DOE-Connector in Sybase. The NWM7.3 contains the counter part to DOE-C which is the ESDMA stuff. This is now included in NWM7.3. If you run still NWM7.1 you need to install that piece of connector as a separate add on.
This is where i got confused and was searching for NWM7.3.
    Thanks

  • Is Netweaver Mobile still necessary with the latest SUP?

I am confused about how or if Netweaver Mobile fits into the architecture if you are using the latest version of SUP.  I saw this thread (future Netweaver Mobile and SyBase Unwired Plataform) a few months ago and got the impression that it is no longer needed.  I am assuming that if we bring SUP in-house, that we won't need to also standup Netweaver Mobile.  Is this true?

    Hi Timothy,
well, he is right in a way - but one thing: what is SUP DOE? There is no SUP DOE as such and there will not be as I was told here at TechEd by SAP representatives.
So: it is correct, NW Mobile will not be further developed.Bug fixing yes, but no further development as such. Perhaps it gets obsolete in the future, as SUP is getting better - okay. But it will always be there for the next years and if SAP wants to get rid of it, they need to give clients a way to migrate to another solution. So even there is no further dev it will not get switched off at some point in the future. And: with NWM7.3 we have a big development in NWM to allow a better integration with SUP out of the box.
So if you want to use CRM mobile, you need the following landscape to deploy it (for example):
1.) ECC Backend (your CRM Backend, off course you need this)
2.) Netweaver Mobile 7.3 (This is the DOE part, including ESDMA)
    3.) Sybase SUP
Well, you need to connect SUP and NWM7.1 together. To do this you need to install a DOE-Connector in Sybase. The NWM7.3 contains the counter part to DOE-C which is the ESDMA stuff. This is now included in NWM7.3. If you run still NWM7.1 you need to install that piece of connector as a separate add on.
So to summ this up: the SAP representative was either unclear to you at this point or he should read the documentation again. Sorry I have to say it this way, but you definetly need NWM if you are running CRM and the DOC part will not be included in the SUP. We have seen the SUP development agenda for the next releases to come, there was nothing like that mentioned. Even better, the DOE-C will be included in standard sUP, which means out of the box you have a better ability to connect SUP to NWM and so to use the DOE.
By the way the same as I said for CRM is true for the new EAM Mobile solution from SAP and Mobile Sales as well. So all of these 3 apps use NWM, DOE-C and SUP. This is off course a big issue for some clients, cause the maintenance cost of the landscape increases due to the fact, that they need a new SUP-Server and can not switch off the NWM box.
On the other hand as said: if you are running a smaller scenario and have no need for CCMS integration, complex monitoring, enterprise device handling from the data side,...... then you will be absolutely happy in using SUP only. It will take some more time to integrate SUP really into the SAP world and extend it by some really needed features and enhance the monitoring abilities for the business for example.
Hope this does not confuse you too much.

    Oliver

  • Netweaver mobile vs SMP

I saw a few discussions around the topic, however after searching a lot i could not find a clear roadmap/difference between Netweaver Mobile and SAP Mobile Platform (SUP). Can someone guide me ?

    Hi Gaurav,
The SAP Mobile Platform 3.0 is SAP's direction for developing mobile applications. You can find some good introductory information below -
    SMP 3.0 SCN Page
    SMP 3.0 SAP Help
    NetWeaver Mobile has been around for a long time and targets old Windows Mobile clients (6.0 / 5.0 / 2003 SE) & Windows Desktop OS's (Xp / Vista / 7 / 8)
I don't think NetWeaver Mobile is being actively developed by SAP anymore.

Solved this on my own, we need to create RFC Function module and Update/Modify data query in that when we need to update data in SAP tables.
Connection is depends on RFC Function Module.
Sample inbuilt RFC's in SAP :
    1. MAM30_011_GETLIST
    2. MAM30_011_GETDETAIL
    3. MAM30_011_CHANGE
Connection Property we need to maintain in SAP connection in Sybase.
Also We need Client Details, Server Machine Name, Connection IP and User Name and Password of User by Which we can test Connection.

  • Re: Netweaver mobile 7.1 and smartphone applications

    Hi Experts,
Im very new to SAP mobile applications. I have experience in developing applications using Webdynpro for ABAP. My queries are:
    1. If i have a webdynpro application can i launch it on smartphones?
    2. Why do we need a seperate SAP netweaver mobile 7.0 or 7.1 when we can design Webdynpro applications from earlier versions too.
    3. Why did SAP merged SYBASE to implement mobile applications when already we have netweaver mobile.
    4.  How to start a application which can be tested on Blackberry 9630 simulator. Do we need to follow some guidelines?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Asif.

    Hello Ashish,
NW Mobile 7.1 has two parts one is the DOE which is the mobile middleware and other is client (Handheld client) which has a perspective in NWDS to develop mobile apps & run them on a Windows Mobile device. The client is a seperate entity than DOE and it includes all implementations also for using DOE.
Yes you are right if you directly SAP web service or APIs then DOE does not come into picture and you will not be able to use DOE features.
SAP & Sybase provide blackberry client which talks to DOE. But in case you want to write your own custom client, then I suggest you would need to start writing the BB Apps & Client which can connect, sync, deploy from DOE.
RIM provides plugins for eclipse to model mobile applications like Android. You can use the same. It works both with standard eclipse & NWDS, since its a eclipse plugin. But this will only help you to write app which can say talk to SAP web services. But to connect to DOE you would need to write a thin client too which can take care of connection, synchronization, message download upload etc.

  • Choosing unicode and non-unicode option in SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1

    Hi folks,
do we have the option of choosing a unicode or non-unicode format on installing SAP Netweaver mobile 7.1?
Can we communicate MI unicode system with non-unicode backend?
Let me know on where i can find more info related to this
    Regards,
    Kalyan

    Hi Ankur,
you can also directly navigate to the mobile administrator using the web browser. The url is as follows:
    http://host:port/sap/bc/webdynpro/sap/sdoe_administration?sap-language=EN
Host and port you have to adjust to your settings. These are the same settings you are using during synchronization on a client device.

  • Netweaver Mobile 7.1 Data Orchestration Engine and 3rd party apps...

    Folks,
I have a third party mobile app that just won't go away (pun intended).
I will have a XMAM AND a 3rd Party App on 1 mobile device x's 1000's of devices.
Can I use Netweaver 7.1 DOE to synchronize my devices 3rd party app? I will have to develop new Business Objects of course.
    CP

    Hi Christopher,
you can use Netweaver Mobile 7.1 to download and deploy so-called mobile components. These mobile components will be always installed into the NW client container. In principle it is possible to create "client installers" which allows you writing a xml script containing installation commands. But as far as I know these commands are restricted to things like copying, deleting, file modification etc. Instaling a CAB-file for example will not be possible. And I guess this is what you are looking for, right?
In case, you want to deploy 3rd party apps written for Netweaver Mobile 7.1, deployment is definitely possible. You will create your app as mobile components containing business logic, data objects and UI in the designtime. These components you can remotely deploy through the DOE.
I hope this answer is helpfull for you. In case you have more questions, let me know.

  • Adobe Air and Flash Future on Desktop and Mobile Devices

    Hello,
iam interested to develop for mobil and desktop devices with AS3 and Flash Professional and i have any question.
I see also many benefits to develop in flash as in java because javas gui development is based on swing a old java graphics engine.
Next reason is the plattform like Linux,Windows,IOS.,the Game Development and other stuff.
With Flash i can create nextgen interactive stunning cool gui interfaces for apps.
I dont know why flash sucks for the market and devices.
My question: is as3 and flash save for the future ?
Make it really sense to learn as3 and Flash ?
I have read many blogs, threads on adobe and other forums year 2012 Adobe stop flash development,
and now 2013 google androids kitkat now have removed api features that kills complete flash !!!
Other comments says Flash is dead for the market!? Many frustradet flash developers he work 10 years and more with flash are crying.
So what is really the Future for the A3 and Flash Development ?
    Thanks and greetings

    Hi mc_gfx,
    > You think i can get started with flash and air development without worries?
Software development always involves risk, so you can't really do much without worries.       AIR in particular is a cutting (bleading?) edge technology. Adobe is attempting to solve a difficult problem with limited resources, and the results aren't always ideal.
If you want to deploy to Android and iOS, and you write two native apps, you face a 100% risk that you'll have to write your app twice. While this may not take twice as long as writing it once, it will come close.
If you use AIR, you only have to write your app once, but you face other risks.
Here's the problem. In AIR, Adobe is attempting to create a framework that translates ActionScript into bytecode for two different platforms. This isn't easy. Every time Apple or Google upgrades their operating system Adobe has to try to refine AIR so that it translates everything correctly for the new OS. AIR also has to maintain backward compatability with all previous OSs (is that the plural of OS?). AIR also has to work with many different models of Android and iOS devices. This includes supporting most, though not all, of the many different capabilities that these OSs support. Adobe, wisely, doesn't try to support every new feature immediately. Instead, it picks and chooses which new features it will support, and how soon. But even taking this approach I have the impression that their task is daunting.
If you research this forum you'll find numerous examples of people complaining about features that don't quite work correctly. For example, I've put ~6 developer months into developing a language learning app, only to find that AIR's MP3 playback support has some limitations which severely impact the playback of voice recordings, which severely degrades the value of my app. I'm hoping that Adobe will fix this bug, but it's been two months now, with no movement. Another serious bug, involving audio recording using the device microphone, took three months to get fixed. During that period I had no idea whether it would get fixed, or whether I'd have to disable an important feature of my app on iOS.
    So, you want "without worries"?
Some people are lobbying Adobe to include support for Windows Phone in the AIR framework. IMHO, this is madness. Adobe clearly has limited resources. Let them first focus on making basic features like MP3 playback work properly on the platforms that they already support.
The same issues probably apply to all the other cross-platform development frameworks - Sencha, Xamarin, etc. They face the same difficult technical challenges. I can't speak to the question of how well they're addressing them, but I'd want research them carefully before I invested a lot of time into developing with them.
With regards to AIR, here's my advice: Before you start a non-trivial project using AIR, make a list of all the things that your app will do, then see if you can find existing apps created with AIR that do these things. Make sure that the feature works on both Android and iOS. You won't be able to test on every device that you'd like to support, but pick a few and test on them.
You don't need to worry about your app's logic - ActionScript is great for that - and AIR translates it just fine. But think carefully about your app's 'skin' - all the ways that you want it to interact with the outside world - input and output - and confirm that apps exist that demonstrate that AIR can handle these features. Also think about the app's infrastructure - network interactions - database interactions - etc.
You'll probably end up with a list of features that you haven't been able to confirm. You can vet these by creating a proof of concept that confirms that AIR will support these needs. Do this before you start developing the full app. Once that's done, pray that everything that works now will continue to work with future OSs and devices. Adobe has a pretty good record on this sort of things, but there aren't any guarantees.
    Don't worry, be happy        ?
    HTH,
    Douglas

  • What's going on with Project "Gateway" and Sybase?

I've just returned from Teched in Berlin where I followed mostly the mobile track of sessions.
I've come away alternately energised and confused. Each topic in its own right is clear, but piecing allthe components together is a different matter.
Has anyone got opinions on the future role of project Gateway? I saw many sessions by Sybase on the SUP and only one which mentioned Gateway. Gateway didn't feature in the mobile strategy slides. However, I have seen material mentioning the future tie-up of the two. If this should happen, then how might they interact? And what future for the co-innovation platform?  Can we draw any conclusions on this yet?
The instant value mobile apps session CD161 seems to build on top of the SAP Data Protocol (SDP), but thinking back, they didn't mention Gateway in there at all. And the co-innovation platform session was silent on both Gateway and SDP
So does "Instant Value" equal "Project Gateway"? It can't be since the Sybase guys talk a lot about Instant Value. Are there two interpretations of this term within the organisation?
Just hoping to kick off a general discussion on this subject. All opinions and replies welcome. Especially from insiders...
    Alex.

Hi Steffan - good point. I kind of assumed that LMS is another term for Project Gateway... They seem to be addressing the same problem, and the architecture diagrams look qualitatively similar.  The CD121 Sybase slides also talk about the "SAP Mobile Connector", which might be yet another name for the same thing. I think you would know better than me since you've already built that thing you showed at the Demo Jam - what data consumption technology was your demo-ed app using?
I get the impression that there have been a number of independent development streams within SAP which are only now being brought together. This manifests itself to us as mixed or incomplete messages. It's easy to see how at a teched, each group might be responsible for getting its own message out and not necessarily integrating into the overall message of the mobile strategy.
So essentially there are two categories of mobile app inthe SAP vision:
    1. Instant Value  and
    2. Mission Critical.
Then there are various methods of consuming SAP backend data from our mobile apps:-
    1. Netweaver mobile DOE (via co-innovation platform?)
    2. LMS
    3. Project Gateway
    4. Web services
    5. BAPIs (via JCA)
(This is five methods, not four, which is another reason why I thought LMS and Gateway were the same thing).
Then on top (or underneath?) of all this, you have to make a call on whether to make use of the SUP middleware and/or a security product like Afaria.
So perhaps the most likely combinations look like:-
    Mission Critical apps with SUP ( + Afaria ) + DOE/Gateway
    or
Instant Value apps with (LMS/Gateway or simply Web services/JCA)
But if you have a LOT of Instant-value apps to build I guess your landscape could become complicated enough to justify the middleware too.
Now please someone point out the flaws in this summary!
    Alex.

  • [Sybase Unwired platform] newbie questions

    Hi,
I am a newbie to SUP (and Mobile app development ). I did go through a lot of stuff related to SUP and even succeeded in installing the same and pinging the unwired server.
My queries are as follows :
I have a mobile application (already developed) which is currently talking to the backend ABAP servers. But now this application needs to talk to  SUP in between and then SUP should be bridged to Netweaver gateway.
    To go about achivening this,
    1. I understand that I need to call the right SUP APIs from  application .Can anyone help/redirect me to SUP APIs  that I need to know and where can i find the same?
    2. What needs to be done to bridge the SUP to the Netweaver gateway and inturn to backend servers?
    3. Would this need relay server configuring?
    4. WHat do I have to learn (as a pre-requisite) to integrate my mobile application with SUP ?
your replies would help me learn more!

You can go through this document at sybooks.online which focuses on many APIs which are very much necessary.

  • Sybase Unwired Platform - Error in creating a Blackberry Application

    Hi Experts,
I am working in the development of Blackberry application using Sybase Unwired Platform and SAP as the backend data source. As a part of this I had created a Remote enabled function module in SAP which returns an internal table as the output. In the Sybase Unwired Workspace I  had created an MBO with this function module and created the User Interface using Device Application Designer. When I test this application in the simulator BlackBerry Storm2 9550, It is showing an error which says
Encountered error while synchronizing package <package_name> and synchronization group "default", see logs for details : com.Sybase.persistence.SynchronizeException: com.Sybase.persistence.ProtocolException: deivce's protocol version is incompatible with the server's protocol version. (1>0)
I am using Sybase Unwired Platform 1.5.5 for this development and BlackBerry Storm2 9550 as simulator.
Can anybody help me to solve this issue?
    Thanks and regards,
    Rinzy Deena Mathews.

    Hi pradeep,
Application is connected with SUP because i tried a simple application using sampleDB.
But when i used to connect SAP to Application, that error generated.
I created SAP Connection successfully but its still show that "Could not initialize class com.sap.mw.jco.JCO in Sybase Control Center's Domain's log page.
I am not able to understand why that error generate because i connected successfully with SAP in Sybase Workspace.
I think that is the problem of 64 & 32 bit files problem.
    I used windows 7 64 bit.
    Please reply me.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Is it possible to install Sybase Unwired Workspace in a separate machine

    Hi all,
I have been using Sybase Unwired Workspace that got installed as part of the SUP 1.5.2 installation. To scale it further I now need ONLY the Workspace part of SUP to be installed in a couple of other workstations for my team members. Idea is to use it in similar way as other Java related development done using NWDS. I am not sure if this is possible and thus appreciate any help/workaround.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nilay
Edited by: Nilay Ghosh on Apr 19, 2011 4:01 PM

    HI,
you can copy the Unwired Workspace to any machine - as it is eclipse based.
I recommend installing it on one Machine, then zip it and copy it to another machine.
in the unwired workspace you can configure the location of the sup server - where the mob's will be running.
you just have to take care with the blackberry keys if you want to sign your blackberry apps.

  • Custom icon in Sybase Unwired Workspace 2.1.3

    Hi All,
I want to add my own custom icon for my application in Sybase Unwired Workspace 2.1.3.
As in sybase , there are few standard icon are available as shown below( Client icon:we can choose from the drop down).
This icon comes in the front of application, when we see this application on Android simulator/device.As shown below:
but my requirement is to put custom icon in front of application.
    Please suggest.
    Thank you in advance.
    Warm regards,
    Rohit Chauhan

For the above issue we then checked the services once again and found that the Sybase unwired Server service gets shutdown automatically.
and asks us to start again.
Please provide a solution to this.
