Future of FMS

We want to purchase FMS but are in dilema because of flash streaming protocol is being depreciated. My question is what will happend when new HTML5 protocol will become standard for Android, IE, Mozilla, etc  (like HLS is now for iOS)? Will we just upgrade the FMS? What if WebM format will become standard? So my question is about the future...If we implement our video infrastructure with your FMS, would we need to abandon it after a year or two or will Adobe apply future protocol streaming standards for HTML5?

Regarding the difference between FMS 4.5 and AMS 5 please see this excerpt from Product Manager's blog post
Adobe Media Server 5 extends the innovation around Protected HTTP Dynamic Streaming (“PHDS”) which allows you to not worry about protection, just enable the encryption and protection and let Adobe do the rest. This release introduces Protected HLS streaming (“PHLS”) which uses the protection system to deliver the content license to the native IOS app without requiring a license server! So now you can deliver HTTP content to both native apps running on Apple devices and Flash-enabled devices using the same powerful Adobe Access client but without the Adobe Access license server. This technology is perfect for live events, news, sports or concerts, or if you just want to protect your video content without a complicated setup. We have juiced up the server with a much higher performing dynamic packager and encryption system that supports on demand and live streaming over both HDS and HLS that will power some of the most impressive events in 2012 that will change the way we think of multi-screen video. We have also extended the server’s utilities for offline media packaging to include HLS segmenting and encryption so you can prepare all your content in advance.
Regd upgrade query, do you already have FMS 4.5 or were planning to buy one? AMS 5 is also available through Value Added reseller channel even now

  • Html5 player connect to FMS via rtmp (H.264). Is it possible in the future?

    Hi,
    I have a streaming service with FMS4, and I need in the future a html5 player, what play the H.264 videos from the FMS, BUT on the rtmp protocol, because the authetication and control of service is in a main.asc script on the FMS.
    Other question is the live streaming from FMS to html5 videoplayer.
    Thank's in advance!

    I would not expect any browser to support RTMP on the <video> object in the future, and in order to make the transport reliable for html5, all browsers would need to support it. Adobe has no control over this... it is entirely up to the browser vendors to decide what streaming transports to implement in their browsers.
    Consider that there is no streaming protocol defined in the HTML5 specification. This means that it is up to each browser vendor to decide what (if any) streaming protocol they want to support. I imagine it will be a good number of years before we can count on any single protocol for streaming working across all browsers.
    For now, the only reliable means of delivering video to the browser using an HTML5 <video> tag is progressive download from an HTTP server.

  • Persisting legal FMS 5.0 licenses on Amazon Web Services through future up-sizing?

    I am running the developer version Flash Media Server 5.0.1 (Windows) on a x64 Amazon Web Services small instance VM. The starter AMI for the server was one of the stock AMIs built by Amazon.
    I have a shiny new license for FMS Professional but not yet applied to FMS.
    I want to apply the license now and continue running as a small instance until I need more performance. Eventually I will want to gradually and periodically up-size it to increasingly larger AWS instances.
    Is this possible with the FMS license?
    Will I have any issues of invalidating the license because the underlying hardware configuration changes?
    What will I need to do to ensure that I can upsize the same server (not create a new one) without invalidating the FMS license?
    What other issues should I know about that I am too ignorant to ask?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    I understand that I must terminate one instance.
    I am not trying to run two instances (virtual computers) with a single AMS license.
    Are you saying that I can freely "move" the license from one instance to another as long as the license is applied to only one instance (server) at a time?
    I need to know if changing the number of virtual cpus and/or the ram will invalidate the AMS license activation.

  • Will recording mic audio in mp3 codec be supported by FMS in the future

    I am newbb to flash. I am developping a mobile app for video chat using FL3. Then I realized that FL3.x only support mp3 streaming for now. So I turn to the server side and found that FMS3.5.1 doesn't support record or live mic audio in mp3. This causes a quite difficult situation. I am wondring if there's a solution/workaround for this? And mostly importantly, I am wondering if recording mic audio in mp3 is ever going to be supported. If anyone can answer this.

    Hi Bob,
    Regarding "when will flashplayer support mp3 encoding" ...
    Jay's lowdown is 100% correct.  And definitely don't hold your breath waiting  ;-)
    My sense is that internally Adobe fiercely guards against bloat in the size of the Flash Player installers.  Fiercely.
    But now they have AIR too.  And Acrobat.  (Both of which now include Flash Player in their current versions.)
    Personally, I would settle for MP3 encoding in AIR as a first step.  Plus, VP6 and H.264 in AIR.
    My sense is that the hurdle against bloat in the AIR installer size is dramatically lower.  And we definitely need these additional encoding capabilities built-in to some runtime.
    So, whenever you have a chance to lobby Adobe engineers or submit requests to their wishlist, just keep asking.

  • How do i get FMS to listen on port 80?

    Hello,
    I'm working on an app that is used by a client of ours that
    is in state government. Because of their security settings, they
    only have port 80 open to use for connections to our application.
    We have a dedicated server running FMIS 3.0, and I've configured
    the fms.ini file to contain the line
    ADAPTOR.HOSTPORT = :80
    instead of the default of 1935. I've restarted FMS, restarted
    the server, changed the connection string in my Flash client to be
    of the form rtmp://<server_name>:80/<app_name> but I
    just can't get the app to connect. It works fine with 1935 in our
    dev and test environments, but for our live server we really need
    to be able to use port 80.
    If anyone can tell me how to make this work I'd really
    appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    Dave

    Hi Jay, thanks for the advice. We actually have FMS running
    on a dedicated server, so there are no other internet services
    installed or running on that machine. I wasn't in charge of the
    process to establish the system architecture, but I believe that
    this decision was made to avoid the HTTP conflict issue you brought
    up.
    No, it turns out that in this case the problem was me. This
    isn't unusual, I'm sorry to admit - I sometimes fail to think a
    problem through before looking for assistance. The problem was with
    the Flash client, in that during development it was configured to
    use port 1935 on my local dev machine which is running FMS, IIS and
    MySQL. In the live environment, each of these three services (well,
    Apache for web server live) is running on a separate machine. When
    I compiled my client, I'd neglected to correctly identify the FMS
    server in the rtmp connection string :/
    So, once I paid attention to what I was doing, I was actually
    able to get the result I needed. Sorry for the disturbance, I'll
    try to be a bit more observant in the future (or at least, I'll try
    to try). Anyway, hopefully some other folks might benefit from this
    discussion, because the documentation is a bit sparse on how to
    exactly configure a server to run both HTTP and FMS via port 80.
    Thanks again for your help! :)

  • FMS not working

    My partner and I are working on a FMS application since a
    month, and everything was fine. We tested the code juste before
    lunch, and when we went back... Tada!!! The server isn't working
    anymore... We tried install uninstall, the date trick (change the
    date for a future one), we emptied the registry, etc etc... It
    still doesn't work! Furthermore, there is no coding problem with
    the application because it works just fine on another computer.
    Is there anybode here to help ?

    I"m afraid I don't have any advice there since it's an OS
    related problem. I'd suggest filing a bug report and contacting
    Adobe directly. You're not the first person to encounter this
    problem, and there's nothing in the 2.0.2 update about it, so I
    guess nobody has formally reported the problem. It seems that
    nobody from Adobe reads in on this forum, so perhaps the right
    people aren't aware of it.
    You might also want to post it on the Chattyfig list. Some of
    the FMS developers answer questions there.

  • Apache in FMS 4 Developer vs XAMPP Environment for PHP

    1.  Have a Flash Webpage under development designed to permit preview and streaming of FLV video.  Downloaded FMS Developer as a test server on my computer.  Apache 2.2 loads with it with a checkbox option to install it or not. I'm able to stream my video OK in this setup using RTMP://localhost and the FLVPlayback component in Flash Pro.  I like some of the OSMF players better like the one in the FMS Start Screen, but I haven't been able to integrate/embed it into my Flash webpage using the HTML provided.  They say just paste it to the webpage, but in ActionScript how do you do that?  None of the online help really explains how to embed Strobe Media Player into an FLA webpage using their HTML.
    2.  I plan to use PayPal Express Checkout for Digital Goods (EC/DG) as my pay facility on the Flash webpage. My videos will play to a cuepoint and then jump to a PayPal button which executes (EC/DG) .  I'm having trouble integrating PayPal with my Flash webpage.  There's a lot of online help, but most solutions involve PHP.  To help me understand PHP I bought the e-book, "Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 for PHP" which recommends downloading the XAMPP platform which contains Apache, PHP, MySQL etc.  I have several questions concerning this:  (a) If I use the XAMPP software, as recommended in the Dreamweaver book, do I have to first uninstall the Apache that comes with FMS? I assume you can't have two Apache's running at the same time. (b) Is FMS the Server or is Apache the server in the FMS installation? (c) Does the Apache software installed with FMS include PHP and MySQL, which seems to be required for any server-side coding?
    You can see by some of these questions that I'm new to all this Server stuff.  I'm doing it myself because I can't afford to pay the $400 to $500 a month for a Video Streaming Host.  I want to use FMS with Amazon Web Services to implement my Streaming Video Project, but I'm not sure I can do it with all the problems I'm encountering.  Anybody know any "reasonable" developers?   ;-)
    Two final questions:
    3.  Why would I need Flash Builder if I have Dreamweaver?  Don't they do essentially the same thing?
    4.  Can I do everything I'm trying to do in 1 and 2 above just using ActionScript and JavaScript, which I understand is just Server-side ActionScript?
    I appreciate any help you can give me on any one or all of these issues.  Thanks

    1. backup your applications folder, fms.ini and any other config files that you have changed in the FMS install directory.
    2. uninstall FMS
    3. reinstall FMS and uncheck the option to install the bundled apache webserver . FMS should be installed on a seperate server as apache. Flashplayer uses port 80 and it  Will conflict adobe apparently bundles apache to be used as demo. I have never gotten PHP and all its modules such as gd to work on their version of apache. reinstall you applications folder and fms.ini(any thing else you backed up)
    4. install apache 2.2,PHP,PHP PEAR(if you ever want to send mail)  install  mysql and mysql workbench on the server machine.
    5. create a text document and change hide known file extensions in the windows folder options so you can change the text files extension to .html(myEmbedFile.html) paste the html provided into this file put it on the webserver and browse to it.
    Resources to keep in mind.
    1. You can use any desktop machine running windows that is has at least 512 mb of ram as development machine. I have installed all the above mentioned servers on desktop machines. I currently use a single quad core destop for all my delvelopment needs and because its a devlopment machine i took port 80 out of fms.ini and installed IIS,Mysql and FMS on it. Keep in mind if you are using windows 7 that you can install apache and PHP on it but I could not get GD (php graphics module) to install on it an currently use IIS. If you do all of this on Linux its not a problem but you may have to find a patch for FMS to get it to install.
    2. if you want to attach your ip adderess to a domain name use dyn.dns their client will autochange your IP address if your ISP gives you a new one or you change a nic card or for any other reason.
    You should do everything I've described above to be able to learn and create apps as effiecently and with as little hassle as possible.
    You can use a package such as  XAMPP to which will install all the above servers but i prefer to do it one by one and use config files without a config manager and I think its easier to install any sever modules I might want to use in the future to expand my development websites. Your choice though.

  • FM to calculate future date

    Hi,
    Im looking for a function module to add number of days ( working days only ) to a given date and return me the resultant date.
    For example, input date 25.02.2009. I need to add 5 working days and the resultant date will be 04.03.2009.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi,
    The FMs of your interest would be:
    DATE_IN_FUTURE - Calculates a future or past date
    WDKAL_DATE_ADD_FKDAYS - Number of working days in a date range
    HOLIDAY_GET - All holidays in a factory calendar
    DATE_CHECK_WORKINGDAY - Determines if a single date is a working day
    There are no direct FM as far as i know. You can use the above FMs and write logic accordingly to get your desired result. Do search on the above FMs for their details.
    Cheers.

  • My puzzle in ABAP Development's future

    As we know, after the issue of Netweaver platform,Java became a good development solution.
    Compared with Java,what position is ABAP placed on? Will ABAP be  eliminatd some day?
    Java & ABAP ,which may have a better future?
    Expect your views.

    Hi Alex,
    As far as features are concerned JAVA is far ahead than ABAP, but on the other side ABAP can not fully comparable with JAVA as it is specific to SAP platform only. Now you can see that along with JAVA, ABAP stack is also been added to SAP web developement platform. ABAP objects are getting more preference to make it helpful in web appication scenarios.
    Also ABAP can not be dropped out as it is the core and legacy of SAP modules which however may be made more flexible with JAVA for efficiant web accessiblity, somehow will depends on ABAP stack only to access SAP backend. e.g. JAVA based RFCs calling ABAP FMs to get data from SAP backend since SAP doesn't recoomemend direct adapters bypassing ABAP functionality.

  • The future of p2p and Stratus

    Hello
    I was digging around in all the docs and infos found on the net about p2p and Stratus even listened to Matthew Kaufman's talk about p2p.
    I read that p2p will be included to FMS also available with LCCS also in the future flash players p2p will be included and also possible over LAN without a server.
    My question is that will there always be a free Stratus like service provided by adobe or any other method to connect flash players from remote locations together with or without a server. And as I understand connecting flash players from remote locations together with p2p can't be done without Adobe interaction or buying Adobe developed software. Am I right?
    Thanks

    Here's another very good set of questions I'd like to see addressed by Adobe.

  • Streaming to FMS via mobile cuts off

    Hi,
    I am using AIR on mobile for streaming a video from a VideoDisplay object to FMS (Flash Media Server) using NetConnection and NetStream.
    It's working, but 50% of the videos are being cut off in the middle. The FLV file on the server is small. Somehow the streaming just stoppes. I guess it has something to do with mobile connectivity, but this happens both on 3G connections and WiFi connections.
    Here is some code:
    private function CreateConnection():void
                                            nc = new NetConnection();
                                            nc.client = this;
                                            nc.objectEncoding = flash.net.ObjectEncoding.AMF3;
                                            nc.connect(rtmpPath);
                                            nc.addEventListener("netStatus", netConnection_eventHandler);
    private function netConnection_eventHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void{
                                            if (event.info.code == "NetConnection.Connect.Success")
        nc.call("checkBandwidth", null);
                                            return;
    public function onBWDone(... rest):void
    CreateConnection();
    nsPublish = new NetStream(nc, NetStream.CONNECT_TO_FMS);
                                            nsPublish.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS,netConnection_ev entHandler);
                                            nsPublish.attachCamera(cam);
    nsPublish.attachAudio(mic);
    nsPublish.publish(InterviewID, "record");
    All help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

  • Current/planned support for HTML5/getUserMedia in FMS/AMS

    Hello,
    AMS/FMS already supports HTML5 video playback, which is great.  However, more users every day are asking about support to record videos using HTML5.  Many users just read an article about getUserMedia and ask us if we plan on supporting this for recording.  The truth is, we don't know what and how Adobe plans on supporting this in Adobe Media Server.
    Can someone comment on the status of recording streams using HTML5 and the time expected to be eventually supported?
    Thanks!

    No, Apple never pre-announces what phones will be supported in the future.
    In fact Apple is, by and large, leaving the support of new phones up to third-parties and the phone manufacturers, via iSync Plugins, so you'd be better off looking to them for guidance:

  • FMS Service STOPS!

    Hello,
    This is pissing me off actually, the service is automatically
    stopping!
    FMS version is 2.0.1, i am using windows XP. I am having this
    problem since today only! i thought that it might be services
    conflict issue, so i stopped most of the services that are not by
    MICROSOFT, and still the FMS stops after exactly 4 seconds or
    sometimes less.
    I am using the Developer edition. is there any limitation for
    that edition such as expiring after 3 or 4 weeks? i guess not!
    PLease help...
    and yeah, i tried to reinstall the FMS, did not work
    out.

    This is stupid, it seems that when i installed windows, i (by
    mistake) entered a wrong date, which was in the future, anyway,
    when i changed it into the right time, the FMS screwed up...
    So, when i want to use the FMS, i have to add a month to my
    time, so i am workin on 2nd of July now... lol
    This is one of the ways i used to do to hack a system, add 10
    years to your date, then download any product that will work for 30
    days, then get back the original time, and yep, your application
    will work for 10 years + 30 days
    DID not find a solution yet, maybe i have to totally remove
    the FMS including the registration files, then reinstall it again
    with the new time is set in my machine! for now, i'll stay in the
    future for a while...

    I want to know that Strobe Media Playback (that uses OSMF 2.0) requires FMS, HTTP Origin and f4fpackager (all of them or any) as server side support for the Dynamic Streaming Sample application,  (OSMF Sample Players given  in the OSMF Sample Folder) to actually do Dynamic http Streaming.
