Future of Single Edition

Hello all,
Like many DPS users, most of my clients looking to take advantage of DPS do not have the type of projects to support a full pro or enterprise investment. This is where the single edition coudpled with my Creative Cloud membership has been a real dream for my company. My question is are there any plans to expand this functionality in the future?
I completely undetstand why the focus MUST be on the pro and enterprise versions. Adobe needs to make money off of this and both systems are great for companies that have an ecosystem that can support them. I started my time with DPS years ago with a company that had a pro account and it fit us like a glove. However we published 13 differnt pubs per month. When I went out on my own, I found that most of my new clients just did not have the type of monthly content to support the big systems. My main problem with using the single edition is the inablilty to have a single, published piece of content on multiple devices. Are there any plans in the future on expanding the types of devices that the Single Edition will allow? I understand that you get what you pay for and allowing my clients to publish with me to an iPad just becasue I am a Creative Cloud member is great. However I would be interested in paying a fee to allow them to take that single piece of content, whether it be a catalog or a children's book, and also publishing it to the iPhone and Android devices. As a business owner paying more for that possibility does not really affect me since I pass along the cost to the client. They have all shown interest in expanding to these deivices, but obviously the cost and functionality of pro and enterprise is just way overblown for their needs. They will never buy into it for a single piece of content, or for a few yearly projects. Before Creative Cloud my clients had no issues at all with the single edtion fee which I think was 3-400 dollars. Almost all of them asked if they could pay more to get on more devices. I had to tell them no, even though they were asking to pay more.
For clients that absolutely have to have their product on multiple devices I have found myself having to bring in developers to build these apps from scratch. This is fine but it costs more, takes longer, and frankly provides similar experiences to what DPS provides. With the ability to bring in HTML 5 and other web languages, you can do so many things with DPS besides magazines. It is a truely amazing and creative platform. Again my clients and I have no problems with paying for this type of functionality. I fully understand that Adobe needs to make money on this as well and with the single edition you are NOT getting any money from folio downloads or the big yearly renewal. If this type of option were availalbe I think you would see a major amount of growth and use of DPS for things other than major publications.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Luke

Well the keynote was awesome. I love everything that I saw. However it looks as if publishing for single edition will not be expanding. Its just a shame. Just because a company does not have the material to support a pro or enterprise account shouldnt mean that they can't put their content on multiple devices with DPS. Espcially if, as is true of my clients, they are willing to pay a fee to do so. There needs to be a step between the single edition CC option and a pro account with a cost associated with it. That way more smaller businesses can leverage the full power of DPS and Adobe can make some profit from allowing them to do so. Its getting harder and harder to find people who JUST want their content on the iPad.

  • Single Edition

    Hi,
    I have a multi-part question:
    1. Can you clarify what you mean by Single Edition; is this an Annual Report, Brochure, Quick Reference Guide, something that you publish once? Or, can you publish a monthly or quarterly issue of an eMagazine?
    2. What tier of the Creative Cloud includes the Single Edition; is Single Edition included with the (1) Application Creative Cloud Subscription? Or, do you need another level or tier?

    Hi,
Sorry to resurface an older post, but there is no Creative Cloud single application membership. Probhjyot misunderstood your reference. What I believe you have purchased is the InDesign subscription (CS subscription edition) based on recent posts.
What does my CS subscription include?
Your subscription includes access to the current and future versions of the Creative Suite application (as long as your subscription remains active) as well as 10B of storage space and the ability to sync your creative files from your desktop to the cloud.*
Adobe DPS Single Edition is not included in a CS subscription offering.
    regards,

  • Single Edition and Creative Cloud

    Hi,
I this correct that - when Single Edition will be in Creative Cloud later this year - I can generate single apps for iPad with DPS without paying any additional fees if I am a member of the Creative Cloud?
Or will there be a fee for each app?
    Thank for clarifying this.

    Thanks.
The last 11 month I had the professional edition but I earned less with my apps than I spend for the DPS (and got nothing for my work). And I only have published one small folio as multi-folio.
So for me it would be best to get Creative Cloud and create single edition apps in future.
Hope that it will come in Creative Cloud soon.

  • Digital Publishing Suite Single Edition Announced

Okay folks. Hopefully this shows that Adobe was listening.

Woodwing workflow will be integrated into DPS with Enterprise 7.5, which we expect to be available by Mid-Nov.
We show the solution at IFRA in Vienna next week at booth A660.
The creation process of interactive elements keeps to be Woodwing's, so InDesign plugins by Woodwing still exist and content management remains within Enterprise, you don't use ID5.5 but still ID4 & ID5. ID5.5 support is still on its way and actually will come after DPS integration with Enterprise 7.6.
So Woodwing supplies you with its own toolset & workflow and one-click export into .folio format (instead of .ofip, which will be abandoned) on basis of the DPS SDK.
Woodwing will work with Adobe (& vice versa) to make the transition for Woodwing customers as smooth as possible, possibly bringing the more advanced features of Woodwing Digital Magazine Reader & CDS to the Adobe DPS ecosystem very soon.
Woodwing and its solution partners will act as DPS resellers to the market in the future.

i heard rumours from a reliable source that it would

DPS single edition will be what is included with Creative Cloud, but I'm not sure if it will include this functionality or not. Moving the discussion over to the DPS forum for clarification.

  • Newsstand App with monthly issue and Single Edition

We have an multi-issue app with iTunes subscriptions (retail) in the Newsstand. We are currently publishing monthly editions inside our app.
Recently we also published a retail Special Issue using this multi-issue subscription app so that current subscribers would see this new Special Issue inside the viewer. This we like.
We would now like to publish this same Special Issue as a single-edition app so that new and future users would "see" this inside the App Store.
Can users download these two identical apps, meaning can they purchase this twice? Is there a way to prevent this "double purchase" thru DPS or App Builder or thru iTunes Connect?
    Tom

As I understand it, each app is wholly independent with respect to entitlement. That is, you can't use a purchase in one app to determine entitlement inside another. Even so, you're talking about two different kinds of iTunes purchase: in-app versus app.

  • Single Edition Question: Which is correct ??

Edition comparrison info says with a Single Edition I can:
"Sell single-.folio applications through the Apple App Store
In the digitalpubsuite_help.pdf, Chapter 5: Assemble and Publish  it states the following:
"Only Professional and Enterprise subscribers can publish folios and create custom viewer apps"
    Which is correct?
Also.... if I want to publish a folio only for the Android market, is a Mac platform necessary!
    Thanks to anyone!

    Hi,
Bob (Bringhurst) will update the help document to state that you can now also use DPS Single Edition to create single-folio apps for distribution through the Apple app-store.
Currently, Viewer Builder only runs on Mac, so you'll need th mac platfrom as well to create (build) apps for Android. This might change in future.
Keep in my, that for creating iOS apps, you will need a Mac. You'll depend on the iOS SDK to be able to upload your apps to Apple (with the Application Loader). iOS SDK is Mac only.

  • Moving from single edition to proffesional edition

I recently created a single edition app with my creative cloud subscription for the company I work for. They like it so much that we are now going to purchae a proffesional edition.
My first task is to creat the same publicaton that I did with the iPad for the iPhone.
I do not currently have the proffesional edition subscription, but I should be able to still build it in InDesign, I jsut won't be able to test it out yet.
What I need to know is how to go about making this. Do I create a new document using the dimentions of the iPhone, or do I create an alternate layout? The same thing with the kindle and android devices, are they new documents or just alternate layouts with one document?
    Thanks for your help
P.S. Let me know if there is anyhting esle I should consider before I undertake this project.
    Josh

To create the iPhone folio for your multi-folio app, you have two choices: (1) create a single 480x320 folio using multi-rendition articles as needed or (2) create 480x320 and 960x640 renditions. I prefer the second option. I create 480x320 source files and import the same set of documents into the two different folios. Note that the iPhone 5 letterboxes the content, but in the near future, the 1136x640 size will be supported. See this article for details:
    Creating content for the iPhone
To create Android renditions, you have a lot more options. See these articles:

  • How many apps can you build with ADP Single Edition?

DPS Single Edition means that you can only create ONE app through the App Builder?
If you need to create 2 or 3 what are your options? Creative Cloud, Prodfesional Edition?
Creative Cloud suscribers need to buy the DPS anyway?

With Creative Cloud you can create as many Single Edition apps as you want.

  • DPS Single Edition - Wrong builder ID, how to fix it?

    Hello all,
We design a quarterly magazine, and we´re using a dps single edition license to have it available to the readers as an iPad independent app, for each edition.
We were doing our second edition, and by error, on the Viewer Builder on the provisioning step we used the old mobileprovision files from the first edition (with the old bundle id).
The result is easy to find out - the app created on the DPS Viewer Builder (and signed with the old provisioning files) is not correct when compared with the one prepared on iTunes Connect for this second edition, and we only noticed that when we were trying to submit the app with the Apple´s Application Loader.
So my question is easy: how can we edit our mag on viewer builder and change for the new provisioning files (we need to use a new bundle id because the second edition is not an upgrade but a new app) on the without buying and new DPS Single Edition License (please mind that when we edit it we can use new provisioning files but they should keep the same mobile provision id or else we get the following error "Bundle ID inside the mobileprovision does not match the bundle ID used for the build").
    Thanks!
    Mario

Hi Bob, thank you for your reply.
Re-creating the file unfortunately doesn´t solve my problem:
    1) if I edit the app on the viewer and replace the provisioning files (now with the correct bundle id) I get "Bundle ID inside mobileprovision does not match the bundle ID used for build (which was xxx.xxxxx.xxx)" , which makes sense because I´ve used first the wrong ones (and that´s why I´m in deep trouble and unable to upload it to Apple)
    2) if I create a new app, even with the same name, at the end it asks for the Single Edition serial number to activate, and if I use the one that I´ve bought, I get "Serial number already redeemed".
If there isn´t any other solution (all ideas are welcome)  I´ll contact tech support from Adobe in order to reset my Serial number (or something similar) because we can´t afford to buy another serial without using first the one we have paid for.
    Thanks
    Mario

  • DPS Single Edition - what if Apple rejects your app?

If you pay for a single edition license and Apple rejects your application after viewing, where do you stand with Adobe?
Are you able to make the changes needed to the app, then rebuild and re-submit?
Is it like a professional, or enterprise edition where you can amend and fine tune your app (through builds and rebuilds) until it is perfect within Viewer Builder - but you're just limited to the one viewer app?
    Thanks

    Thanks Bob.
I haven't got any problems, this is just hypothetical at the moment.
Is there a limit to the amount of changes I want to make? Say I have built my folio, zipped it and placed it in the app in viewer builder. I see a couple of minor errors, so need to re-zip the folio and rebuild the viewer. Then I want to add another section (which requires another rebuild). Is that all doable? I'm just talking from real-life experience of digital publication development - I don't think our first viewer build has ever been the one we've pushed to Apple.

  • Single Edition - How long for approval from Apple to App Store? Is Content Viewer an Option?

    Hello -
I am in somewhat of a predicament. We have a client who has just told us that they would like to make an app we created for them available for attendees of a conference, somewhere from 100-300 people. The app we created for them was just done and put into Content Viewer, as it was just for that one client, and on that one iPad.
Now, we'd like to make it public for 100-300 people, so we are going to purchase the single edition. But, we need this up and available for purchase in the app store in 10 days. I realize it varies from case to case, but does anyone think there's a chance the Apple App store could approve in enough time, say if we uploaded on a Monday and needed it to be available on a Friday?
If not - anyone have ideas for contigency plans? Some questions I have: how many Adobe IDs can an app be shared with? Like, would it be possible to share the folio with one Adobe ID, and then give that login to people at the conference who want to see the app, and then they log in to Adobe Content Viewer, log in, and download if they want. Seems shaky at best, but is it worthy as a backup plan?
    Thanks much,
    B

You can check some websites that give a average idea of the current wait times for an app to be reviewed.
I generally use the below to give myself an idea of the wait time. I do not use these type of sites when talking to clients however.

  • Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?

Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?
I currently have SE via creatieve cloud - one of the only reasons we switched to CC was for the DPS SE.
Does anyone know if this capability will just be 'switched off' at midnight 1st May 2015?? There are huge costs for going the enterprise route but with no date in sight for Publish to be launched I am not sure I can wait for this, or should I???

Adobe states: Please note that the Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition, service will be available for use until May 1, 2015, but beyond that date the service will no longer be available.
So essentially my licence will expire on 1st May - Adobe's note just mentions 'service' -  even though part of CC and I will not be able to maintain my app or create any more IPA's after 1st May. I can't beleive there is nothing to switch over to other than paying thousands of pounds for enterprise??
Just all so vauge, feels like a plug is going to be pulled and thats it??? Maybe I am missing something?
