Future Version of the SAP Enterprise SOA Discovery System

Hi,
what happens, if a new version of the system is available. I understood, that the system can be patched and new components can be installed. Do I have to buy a new box or can I make an update?
Would it be possible to add a image of the complete system to the distribution, so the system can easily be reset after something went wrong?

Hi,
it's currently a bit early to talk about future versions of the Discovery System. Nothing is finally decided yet.
The applications on the Discovery System can be patched and upgraded as any other SAP software installation. And you are free to add software to the system.
Shipping an image is a nice idea. I am not aware if HP is not shipping that already.

  • What versions of the SAP Enterprise Portal support Java 5

What versions of the SAP Enterprise Portal support Java 5?
    Example:
If we were to use Java 5 code for an iView what versions of the portal would it run in?
I have reviewed the Product Availability Matrix (PAM) and this is not clear. All I can find are references to JAVA 4 when using EP 6.

    Hi Alejandro,
Currently, the version of SAP NetWeaver that is J2SE 5.0 as well as Java EE 5 compatible is the [SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment (NW CE)|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/nw-ce]. It does not provide the "full" Portal capabilities, however it does come with a "Portal Lite" and supports Portal applications development scenarios.

  • Need help with the SAP Enterprise connector wizard at the NWDS

    Hello,
I am trying to create new proxy using the SAP Enterprise connector at the Netweaver Developer Studio.
The problem is that at the 2nd stage I am unable to connect to the server. Can someone please explain me in details:
    1. Which tab should I chose there: Load balancing server or single server?
    2. Which parameters should I enter there and from where can I take them (uch as System number...)
I tried to enter my server's parameters but I couldn't connect.

    Hi Roy,
It depends on what type of R/3 server you are connecting. Usually development & Quality assurance systems for R/3 are not load balanced. You can find it out from your Basis people that server you are connecting is load balanced.
If it is not load balanced  then the select the single server and enter the following parameters.
    1. Host Name: Server Name (or ip address)
    2. System Number: (00)
If it is load balanced then fill out all the information on load balancing tab.
You only need to fill one of the tabs. thank you.

  • Future versions and the relese dates

Can anybody give the Oracle planning about the Future versions and the release dates of the versions.
Becaz Oracle support mentioned some of problems which we were facing in Oracle Streams will be addressed in Future Major releases. If we know the release dates of the future releases we can plan in our project wether to use the STREAMS or not.
    Thanks & Regards

The next version of Portal Server will fully support Portlet 2.0 (JSR-286) spec.
The implementation is expected to be released as soon as the spec is done (it is Public Draft now)
A sneak preview of Portlet Container 2.0 based on public draft will be
also available as part of upcoming Java Application Platform SDK.

  • Restore of SOA Discovery system

    Hi,
We have done a full windows backup including system state and registry of SOA Discovery system.
Before the backup we stopped SAP, MDM and SQL servers.
We have done a virgin windows 2003 enterprise install and we want to restore the system from this backup.
Normally at the end of the restore we the same system as before.
Did someone already done that before ?
Wich winodws version is used on Discovery system : std or enterprise and how many licensed users ?
    Thanks you for your help.

    Momo,
The Discovery server v2 (NW04s) is using Windows 2003 SP1 Std. Edition (25 users) and MS SQL 2005 Enterp. Edition. We did not used backup, what we did is created Ghost Image after we complete install of first Discovery Server...

  • Can we expect any updates in future versions on the sound part of flash?

    hey
i realy would like to know, because i am working on games, and i do like flash a lot, though it is realy memory consuming.
are there going to be an upgrade somewhere in the near future to the sound system flash uses?
because frankly speaking right now it is kind of lame, with all those delays in the playbacks.

Well first off unless you had the supplement insurance verizon will not replace a phone broke in a car door. That is physical damage and is not covered.
At present you can use if qualified the device payment plan which is full price spread out over 12 months with so much down and the rest paid over the year. There is a $2 fee per month for this plan. However if you have unlimited data etc on the plan now you keep it. That is a plus for many customers.
You can use the edge plan, you pay so much and after a certain time frame after paying half the phone cost you can trade in the phone and get a new super doper phone, again you pay so much down and can do this over and over. However if you have unlimited data you lose it. The cost of data is very expensive and read the posts here about problems with actual usage versus what was never used before.
Or you can pay full price for the device or get another device from a friend or buy a cheap device from a place off the net.
    Good Luck

  • New idea for a future version of the pc suite

I'm sure this must of been thought of but as I've never had any sort of mp3 player i don't know.
anyway, i know the PC suite can download content from the phone to a PC and sync automatically ect... but how about giving the PC suite the ability to automatically upload content to the phone when new content is found in a specific folder on the PC. where this would come in handy would be for us folks who download pod casts on a weekly basis, if the pod casts were placed into a folder on the PC and then when the phone connected to the PC the pod cast could be uploaded automatically for listening to at a later date on the phone?
i suppose someone is now going to tell me this is exactly what happens with an ipod?
    Nexu 5

not really, in itunes you can set an auto sync for everything but not one folder. but being a sync that would still pick up your new podcasts (wouldnt be to slow if you are not using a full 60gb for instance)
you can do the same with windows media player 10, so maybe there is no need to do this for pc suite?

    Hi,
We have existing CUA on a system with SAP_BASIS     700.
This CUA do have various R/3 systems connected.

  • Multiple Discovery Systems on the same network

Is anybody successfully running more than one DS on the same network? We have edited the hostname of the DS but their still seems to be a conflict between the two servers and the SID names cannot be the same as well.

    Hi Phillip,
The changing of the hostname is not recommended by SAP, but there is a customer who succeeded in doing so and claims to have even connected 4 Discovery Systems to the same network.
Knowing Maxim, I believe he indeed achieved it.
    Read his blog: /people/maxim.efimov2/blog/2007/05/07/how-to-change-hostname-on-sap-enterprise-soa-discovery-system

  • Obtaining the SAP NetWeaver version programmatically

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me if (and how) I can obtain the version of the SAP NetWeaver application server from a Java program?
I have an application running on several platforms, one of which is SAP NetWeaver. The application has a system information page in which we show system information like OS, RDBMS, etc. I would also like to add the name and version of the application server the application is running on.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thank you for your response, but that's not exactly what I'm after.
What I would like to know is how to obtain the version through a Java program.
On e.g. JBoss this is easily done by using an MBean, retrieving the version:
        MBeanServerConnection server = (MBeanServerConnection)new InitialContext().lookup("jmx/rmi/RMIAdaptor");
        ObjectName on = new ObjectName("jboss.system:type=Server");
        Object version = server.getAttribute(on, "VersionNumber");
I would like to use something similar for running on the SAP NetWeaver server.

  • Getting the current installed version information from SAP with VBScript

This is probably a question that is buried somewhere in here but so far no luck finding it so i'm throwing it out to everyone.
I am in charge of developing all of the distribution packages for SAP and any and all add-ons our corporate site requires. I'm using radia as a push tool and vbscript and wmi to manage the uninstall, install, patching, updating, and miscellaneous functions needed on each users system.
prior to my taking this position over an older version of SAP was distributed to several users with less than stellar results. due to the massive size of the Frontend GUI i've separated it out as a base stand alone install and packaged each Add-On with only the files it needs to complete the FE install. in order to guarantee my users have the newest version of the FE GUI on their systems i am doing some rudimentary checks based on the existence or no existence of the push directory of the older sap package on the users system. which works for now but is not the most graceful thing.
What i need is to be able to check right from a running vbscript what the current version and patch level the FE GUI is running at and any other components if possible, for now the FE GUI is the most important
    Thanks for the help

    Ryan,
I hope you find this of use.  The only issue you will have is if the user has the SAP GUI running.  If so, the getversion call will fail as it requires an exclusive lock on the file.  I do not know why.
    Anyway, here is the code:
    Dim oShell, SAPdestdir, fso, i
    Set oShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    SAPdestdir = oShell.RegRead("HKLMSOFTWARESAPSAP SharedSAPdestdir")
    Wscript.Echo SAPdestdir
    Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    SAPGuiVer = fso.GetFileVersion(SAPdestdir & "SAPGuiSAPGui.exe")
    WScript.Echo SAPGuiVer
    verInfo = Split(SAPGuiVer, ".")
    For i = 0 To UBound(verInfo)
         WScript.Echo verInfo(i)

    Hello,
How can I obtain a license key for the SAP Enterprise Services Explorer for Microsoft .NET ?
There was a message stating that it was a 90 day trial version when I downloaded the installation file.
We do have a license for SAP NetWeaver CE 7.2; but I can't find where to download a version that it's not trial or get a proper license key

Also I'd like to know what's the process to apply this license? It's my understanding that it only applies to the development machine. Is this assumption correct ?

  • Do you trust the SAP standard rule set ?

    Hello all,
I have the impression that, too often, the SAP standard ruleset has been taken for granted : upload, generate and use. Here is a post as to why not to do so. Hopefuly, this will generate a interesting discussion.
As I have previously stated in other threads, you should be very careful accepting the SAP standard rule set without reviewing it first. Before accepting it, you should ensure that your specific SAP environment has been reflected in the functions. The 2 following questions deal with this topic :
    1. what is your SAP release  ? ---> 46C is different than ECC 6.0 in terms of permissions to be included in the function permission tab. With every SAP release, new authorization objects are linked to SAP standard tcodes. Subsequently some AUTHORITY-CHECK statements have been adapted in the ABAP behind the transaction code. So, other authorizations need to provided from an implementation point of view (PFCG). And thus, from an audit perspective (GRC-CC), other settings are due when filtering users' access rights in search for who can do what in SAP.
    2. what are your customizing settings and master data settings ? --> depending on these answers you will have to (de)activate certain permissions in your functions. Eg. are authorization groups for posting periods, business areas, material types, ... being used ? If this is not required in the SAP system and if activated in SAP GRC function, then you filter down your results too hard, thereby leaving certain users out of the audit report while in reality they can actually execute the corresponding SAP functionality --> risk for false negatives !
Do not forget that the SAP standard ruleset is only an import of SU24 settings of - probably - a Walldorf system. That's the reason SAP states that the delivered rule set is a starting point.
So, the best practice is :
    a. collect SAP specific settings per connector in a separate 'questionnaire' document, preferably structured in a database
    b. reflect these answers per function per connector per action per permission by correctly (de)activating the corresponding permissions for all affected functions
You can imagine that this is a time-consuming process due to the amount of work and the slow interaction with the Java web-based GRC GUI. Therefore, it is a quite cumbersome and at times error-prone activity ...... That is, in case you would decide to implement your questionnaire answers manually. There are of course software providers on the market that can develop and maintain your functions in an off-line application and generate your rule set so that you can upload it directly in SAP GRC. In this example such software providers are particularly interesting, because your questionnaire answers are structurally stored and reflected in the functions. Any change now or in the future can be mass-reflected in all (hundreds / thousands of) corresponding permissions in the functions. Time-saving and consistent !
Is this questionnaire really necessary ? Can't I just activate all permissions in every function ? Certainly not, because that would - and here is the main problem - filter too much users out of your audit results because the filter is too stringent. This practice would lead too false negatives, something that auditors do not like.
Can't I just update all my functions based on my particular SU24 settings ? (by the way, if you don't know what SU24 settings are, than ask your role administrator. He/she should know. ) Yes, if you think they are on target, yes you can by deleting all VIRSA_CC_FUNCPRM entries from the Rules.txt export of the SAP standard rule set, re-upload, go for every function into change mode so that the new permissions are imported based on your SU24 settings. Also, very cumbersome and with the absolute condition that you SU24 are maintained excellent.
Why is that so important ? Imagine F_BKPF_GSB the auth object to check on auth groups on business areas within accounting documents. Most role administrator will leave this object on Check/Maintain in the SU24 settings. This means that the object will be imported in the role when - for example - FB01 has been added in the menu.  But the role administrator inactivates the object in the role. Still no problem, because user doesn't need it, since auth groups on business areas are not being used. However, having this SU24 will result in an activated F_BKPF_GSB permission in your GRC function. So, SAP GRC will filter down on those users who have F_BKPF_GSB, which will lead to false negatives.
Haven't you noticed that SAP has deactivated quite a lot of permissions, including F_BKPF_GSB ? Now, you see why. But they go too far at times and even incorrect. Example : go ahead and look deeper into function AP02. There, you will see for FB01 that two permissions have been activated. F_BKPF_BEK and F_BKPF_KOA.  The very basic authorizations needed to be able to post FI document are F_BKPF_BUK and F_BKPF_KOA.  That's F_BKPF_BUK .... not F_BKPF_BEK. They have made a mistake here. F_BKPF_BEK is an optional  auth object (as with F_BKPF_GSB) to check on vendor account auth groups.
Again, the message is : be very critical when looking at the SAP standard rule set. So, test thoroughly. And if your not sure, leave the job to a specialized firm.
    Success !
    Sam

    Sam and everyone,
Sam brings up some good points on the delivered ruleset.  Please keep in mind; however, that SAP has always stated that the delivered ruleset is a starting point.  This is brought up in sap note 986996     Best Practice for SAP CC Rules and Risks.  I completely agree with him that no company should just use the supplied rules without doing a full evaluation of their risk and control environment.
I'll try to address each area that Sam brings up:
    1.  Regarding the issue with differences of auth objects between versions, the SAP delivered rulset is not meant to be version specific.  We therefore provide rules with the lowest common denominator when it comes to auth object settings.
The rules were created on a 4.6c system, with the exception of transactions that only exist in higher versions.
The underlying assumption is that we want to ensure the rules do not have any false negatives.  This means that we purposely activate the fewest auth objects required in order to execute the transaction.
If new or different auth object settings come into play in the higher releases and you feel this results in false positives (conflicts that show that don't really exist), then you can adjust the rules to add these auth objects to the rules.
Again, our assumption is that the delivered ruleset should err on the side of showing too many conflicts which can be further filtered by the customer, versus excluding users that should be reported.
    2.  For the customizing settings, as per above, we strive to deliver rules that are base level rules that are applicable for everyone.  This is why we deliver only the core auth objects in our rules and not all.  A example is ME21N.
If you look at SU24 in an ECC6 system, ME21N has 4 auth objects set as check/maintain.  However, in the rules we only enable one of the object, M_BEST_BSA.  This is to prevent false negatives.
    3.  Sam is absolutely right that the delivered auth object settings for FB01 have a mistake.  The correct auth object should be F_BKPF_BUK and not F_BKPF_BEK.  This was a manual error on my part.  I've added this to a listing to correct in future versions of the rules.
    4.  Since late 2006, 4 updates have been made to the rules to correct known issues as well as expand the ruleset as needed.  See the sap notes below as well as posting Compliance Calibrator - Q2 2008 Rule Update from July 22.
    1083611 Compliance Calibrator Rule Update Q3 2007

    1035070 Compliance Calibrator Rule Update Q1 2007
1173980 Risk Analysis and Remediation Rule Update Q2 2008
    5.  SAP is constantly working to improve our rulesets as we know there are areas where the rules can be improved.  See my earlier post called Request for participants for an Access Control Rule mini-council from January 28, 2008.  A rule mini-council is in place and I welcome anyone who is interested in joining to contact me at the information provided in that post.
    6.  Finally, the document on the BPX location below has a good overview of how companies should review the rules and customize them to their control and risk environment:

  • Integration of SAP enterprise portal with ATG dynamo platform

This is more an architectural question.
There is an existing web application running on the ATG 5.x/6.x B2C platform that takes orders from dealers for a retailer. It integrates with a SAP system using proprietary integration mechanisms. This is the existing architecture.
There is a idea to use the SAP netweaver platform, specifically the SAP enterprise portal that will integrate with the ATG dynamo platform.
ATG 6.2 and above allows integration in 2 ways :
    1) Use web services
    2) Integration framework using JMS/RPC etc
[Pl. see the ATG documentation www.atg.com/support]
I have been reading thru number of articles on SAP netweaver and looking for multiple options for the above integration.
    My theoretical understanding is:
    a) Develop a connector to the ATG platform using connector framework and invoke a web service on the ATG platform that expose the business logic built on the ATG platform
    b) Does SAP XI come into picture if the portal tries to create a business process out of one single application.
    c) Are there any other options?
I'm completely new to the SAP netweaver platform but have a good idea on SOA.
Any help or inputs on this will be highly appreciated.

    Hello,
I can give you a suggestion from the Connector framework point of view. We are currently developing a generic webservice connector which will enable to create content using CF, which will be sent as WS requests for function execution. The connector is planned to be released for New-York 7.1 Netweaver branch. For the mean time I can suggest, as you did, to develop your CF connector which will connect to ATG exposed WS.

  • EJB Modul: SAP Enterprise Connector, configuring build path

    Hello,
first of all I'm using SAP NW CE.
I created an 2 Development Components, an EJB Module and a Enterprise Application(EAR). In the EJB Module I use the SAP Enterprise Connector to generate Java Proxy Classes to do RFC calls.
In the EAR-DC I add in Properties-->J2EE Module Dependencies the needed jar-files. And in the EJB-DC I reference this.
When I don't work with DCs and I create a "normal" EJB and EAR project that is the way it works.
But with DCs I have a problem when I want to build the DC. I have this error:
    package com.sap.aii.proxy.framework.core does not exist
So the build-process don't realize the J2EE Module Dependencies. How can I solve this problem?
    Regards,
    Armin

Did you mean the Development Infrastructure Perspective? If yes I don't find DC -> DC Metadata -> DC Definitino -> Right-click Used DCs -> Add Used DC... if I browse through my DC.
Apart from that I don't want to reference DCs as I write above. I want to reference only jar-files. Because the DCs com.sap.aii.proxy.framework, com.sap.aii.util..misc and com.sap.mw.jco are deprecated. And if I reference DCs I have to use this DCs to use the proxy classes made by the SAP Enterprise Connector. So I want to reference the jar-files where the needed source isn't deprecated.
By the way I use SAP NW CE.
